Bourgade, Nikeghbali and Rouault recently proposed a matrix model for the circular Jacobi $β$-ensemble, which is a generalization of the Dyson circular $β$-ensemble but equipped with an additional parameter $b$, and further studied its limiting spectral measure. We calculate the scaling limits for expected products of characteristic polynomials of circular Jacobi $β$-ensembles. For the fixed constant $b$, the resulting limit near the spectrum singularity is proven to be a new multivariate function. When $b=βNd/2$, the scaling limits in the bulk and at the soft edge agree with those of the Hermite (Gaussian), Laguerre (Chiral) and Jacobi $β$-ensembles proved in the joint work with P Desrosiers "Asymptotics for products of characteristic polynomials in classical beta-ensembles", Constr. Approx. 39 (2014), arXiv:1112.1119v3. As corollaries, for even $β$ the scaling limits of point correlation functions for the ensemble are given. Besides, a transition from the spectrum singularity to the soft edge limit is observed as $b$ goes to infinity. The positivity of two special multivariate hypergeometric functions, which appear as one factor of the joint eigenvalue densities for spiked Jacobi/Wishart $β$-ensembles and Gaussian $β$-ensembles with source, will also be shown.
Beta ensembles on the real line with three classical weights (Gaussian, Laguerre and Jacobi) are now realized as the eigenvalues of certain tridiagonal random matrices. The paper deals with beta Jacobi ensembles, the type with the Jacobi weight. Making use of the random matrix model, we show that in the regime where $βN \to const \in [0, \infty)$, with $N$ the system size, the empirical distribution of the eigenvalues converges weakly to a limiting measure which belongs to a new class of probability measures of associated Jacobi polynomials. This is analogous to the existing results for the ot…
Let $λ$ and $μ$ be beta-Jacobi and beta-Laguerre ensembles with joint density function $f_{β, m, a_1, a_2}$ and $f_{β, m, a_1}$, respectively. Here $β>0$ and $a_1, a_2$ and $m$ satisfying . $a_1, a_2>\fracβ{2}(m-1).$ In this paper, we consider the distance between $2(a_1+a_2)λ$ and $μ$ in terms of total variation distance and Kullback-Leibler distance. Following the idea in \cite{JM2017}, we are able to prove that both the two distances go to zero once $a_1m=o(a_2)$ and not so if $\lim_{a_2\to\infty}a_1m/a_2=σ>0.$
We provide a precise coupling of the finite circular beta ensembles and their limit process via their operator representations. We prove explicit bounds on the distance of the operators and the corresponding point processes. We also prove an estimate on the beta-dependence in the $\text{Sine}_β$ process.
The purpose of this paper is to study the existence and uniqueness of solutions to a system of Stochastic Differential Equations (SDEs). The coordinates are bounded by zero and one, and repulse each other according to a Coulombian like interaction force. We show the existence of strong and pathwise unique solutions to the system until the first multiple collision at zero or one, and give a sufficient condition on the parameters of the SDEs for this multiple collision not to occur in finite time.
We prove an operator level limit for the circular Jacobi $β$-ensemble. As a result, we characterize the counting function of the limit point process via coupled systems of stochastic differential equations. We also show that the normalized characteristic polynomials converge to a random analytic function, which we characterize via the joint distribution of its Taylor coefficients at zero and as the solution of a stochastic differential equation system. We also provide analogous results for the real orthogonal $β$-ensemble.
We give a simple proof of a central limit theorem for linear statistics of the Circular beta-ensembles which is valid at almost arbitrary mesoscopic scale and for functions of class C^3. As a consequence, using a coupling introduced by Valko and Virag, we deduce a central limit theorem for the Sine beta processes. We also discuss the connection between our result and the theory of Gaussian Multiplicative Chaos. Based on the results of Lambert-Ostrovsky-Simm, we show that the exponential of the logarithm of the real (and imaginary) part of the characteristic polynomial of the Circular beta-ense…
An explicit formula for the mean spectral measure of a random Jacobi matrix is derived. The matrix may be regarded as the limit of Gaussian beta ensemble (G$β$E) matrices as the matrix size $N$ tends to infinity with the constraint that $N β$ is a constant.
We study the dimension properties of the spectral measure of the Circular $β$-Ensembles. For $β\geq 2$ it it was previously shown by Simon that the spectral measure is almost surely singular continuous with respect to Lebesgue measure on $\partial \mathbb{D}$ and the dimension of its support is $1 - 2/β$. We reprove this result with a combination of probabilistic techniques and the so-called Jitomirskaya-Last inequalities. Our method is simpler in nature and mostly self-contained, with an emphasis on the probabilistic aspects rather than the analytic. We also extend the method to prove a large…

We prove that the two-dimensional Gaussian Free Field describes the asymptotics of global fluctuations of a multilevel extension of the general beta Jacobi random matrix ensembles. Our approach is based on the connection of the Jacobi ensembles to a degeneration of the Macdonald processes that parallels the degeneration of the Macdonald polynomials to to the Heckman-Opdam hypergeometric functions (of type A). We also discuss the beta goes to infinity limit.
The paper studies the limiting behavior of spectral measures of random Jacobi matrices of Gaussian, Wishart and MANOVA beta ensembles. We show that the spectral measures converge weakly to a limit distribution which is the semicircle distribution, Marchenko-Pastur distributions or Kesten-Mckey distributions, respectively. The Gaussian fluctuation around the limit is then investigated.
We study limiting distribution of pair counting statistics of the form $ \sum_{1\leq i\neq j\leq N} f(L_N\*(θ_i-θ_j))$ for the circular $β$-ensemble (C$β$E) of random matrices for sufficiently smooth test function $f$ and $L_N=O(N).$ For $β=2$ and $L_N=N$ our results are inspired by a classical result of Montgomery on pair correlation of zeros of Riemann zeta function.
We consider the macroscopic large N limit of the Circular beta-Ensemble at high temperature, and its weighted version as well, in the regime where the inverse temperature scales as beta/N for some parameter beta>0. More precisely, in the large N limit, the equilibrium measure of this particle system is described as the unique minimizer of a functional which interpolates between the relative entropy (beta=0) and the weighted logarithmic energy (beta=\infty). More precisely, we provide subGaussian concentration estimates in the W1 metric for the deviations of the empirical measure to this equili…
Let $θ_1,\ldots,θ_n$ be random variables from Dyson's circular $β$-ensemble with probability density function $\operatorname {Const}\cdot\prod_{1\leq j<k\leq n}|e^{iθ_j}-e^{iθ_k}|^β$. For each $n\geq2$ and $β>0$, we obtain some inequalities on $\mathbb{E}[p_μ(Z_n)\bar{p_ν(Z_n)}]$, where $Z_n=(e^{iθ_1},\ldots,e^{iθ_n})$ and $p_μ$ is the power-sum symmetric function for partition $μ$. When $β=2$, our inequalities recover an identity by Diaconis and Evans for Haar-invariant unitary matrices. Further, we have the following: $ \lim_{n\to\infty}\mathbb{E}[p_μ(Z_n)\bar{p_ν(Z_n)}]= δ_{μν}(\frac{2}β)^{…
The bead process introduced by Boutillier is a countable interlacing of the determinantal sine-kernel point processes. We construct the bead process for general sine beta processes as an infinite dimensional Markov chain whose transition mechanism is explicitly described. We show that this process is the microscopic scaling limit in the bulk of the Hermite beta corner process introduced by Gorin and Shkolnikov, generalizing the process of the minors of the Gaussian unitary and orthogonal ensembles. In order to prove our results, we use bounds on the variance of the point counting of the circul…
The problem of convergence of the joint moments, which depend on two parameters $s$ and $h$, of the characteristic polynomial of a random Haar-distributed unitary matrix and its derivative, as the matrix size goes to infinity, has been studied for two decades, beginning with the thesis of Hughes. Recently, Forrester considered the analogous problem for the Circular $β$-Ensemble (C$β$E) characteristic polynomial, proved convergence and obtained an explicit combinatorial formula for the limit for integer $s$ and complex $h$. In this paper we consider this problem for a generalisation of the C$β$…
The aim of this paper is to give a precise asymptotic description of some eigenvalue statistics stemming from random matrix theory. More precisely, we consider random determinants of the GUE, Laguerre, Uniform Gram and Jacobi beta ensembles and random characteristic polynomials evaluated at 1 for matrices in the Circular and Circular Jacobi beta ensembles. We use the framework of mod-Gaussian convergence to provide quantitative estimates of their logarithmic behavior, as the size of the ensemble grows to infinity. We establish central limit theorems, Berry-Esseen bounds, moderate deviations an…
We consider the moment space $\mathcal{M}^{p}_{2n+1}$ of moments up to the order $2n + 1$ of $p_n\times p_n$ real matrix measures defined on the interval $[0,1]$. The asymptotic properties of the Hankel determinant $\{\log\det (M_{i+j}^{p_n})_{i,j=0,\ldots,\lfloor nt\rfloor}\}_{t\in [0,1]}$ of a uniformly distributed vector $(M_1,\dots ,M_{2n+1})^t\sim\mathcal{U}(\mathcal{M}_{2n+1})$ are studied when the dimension $n$ of the moment space and the size of the matrices $p_n$ converge to infinity. In particular weak convergence of an appropriately centered and standardized version of this process …
We study multilevel matrix ensembles at general beta by identifying them with a class of processes defined via the branching rules for multivariate Bessel and Heckman-Opdam hypergeometric functions. For beta = 1, 2, we express the joint multilevel density of the eigenvalues of a generalized beta-Wishart matrix as a multivariate Bessel ensemble, generalizing a result of Dieker-Warren. In the null case, we prove the conjecture of Borodin-Gorin that the joint multilevel density of the beta-Jacobi ensemble is given by a principally specialized Heckman-Opdam measure.
The main result of the paper is a construction of a five-parameter family of new bases in the algebra of symmetric functions. These bases are inhomogeneous and share many properties of systems of orthogonal polynomials on an interval of the real line. This means, in particular, that the algebra of symmetric functions is embedded into the algebra of continuous functions on a certain compact space Omega, and under this realization, our bases turn into orthogonal bases of weighted Hilbert spaces corresponding to certain probability measures on Omega. These measures are of independent interest ---…
We extend our results on the fluctuation of the pair counting statistic of the Circular Beta Ensemble $\sum_{i\neq j}f(L_N(θ_i-θ_j))$ for arbitrary $β>0$ in the mesoscopic regime $L_N=O(N^{2/3-ε})$.
We give a rigorous analysis of the statistical behavior of gradients in a randomly initialized fully connected network N with ReLU activations. Our results show that the empirical variance of the squares of the entries in the input-output Jacobian of N is exponential in a simple architecture-dependent constant beta, given by the sum of the reciprocals of the hidden layer widths. When beta is large, the gradients computed by N at initialization vary wildly. Our approach complements the mean field theory analysis of random networks. From this point of view, we rigorously compute finite width cor…
