Let $\mathbf X=(X_{jk})_{j,k=1}^n$ denote a Hermitian random matrix with entries $X_{jk}$, which are independent for $1\le j\le k\le n$. We consider the rate of convergence of the empirical spectral distribution function of the matrix $\mathbf X$ to the semi-circular law assuming that ${\mathbf E} X_{jk}=0$, ${\mathbf E} X_{jk}^2=1$ and that $$ \sup_{n\ge1}\sup_{1\le j,k\le n}{\mathbf E}|X_{jk}|^4=:μ_4<\infty \quad \text{and} \sup_{1\le j,k\le n}|X_{jk}|\le D_0n^{\frac14}. $$ By means of a recursion argument it is shown that the Kolmogorov distance between the expected spectral distribution of the Wigner matrix $\mathbf W=\frac1{\sqrt n}\mathbf X$ and the semicircular law is of order $O(n^{-1})$.
The aim of this note is to investigate the Kolmogorov distance of the Circular Law to the empirical spectral distribution of non-Hermitian random matrices with independent entries. The optimal rate of convergence is determined by the Ginibre ensemble and is given by $n^{-1/2}$. A smoothing inequality for complex measures that quantitatively relates the uniform Kolmogorov-like distance to the concentration of logarithmic potentials is shown. Combining it with results from Local Circular Laws, we apply it to prove nearly optimal rate of convergence to the Circular Law in Kolmogorov distance. Fur…
Additivity violation of minimum output entropy, which shows non-classical properties in quantum communication, had been proved in most cases for random quantum channels defined by Haar-distributed unitary matrices. In this paper, we investigate random completely positive maps made of Gaussian Unitary Ensembles and Ginibre Ensembles regarding this matter. Using semi-circular systems and circular systems of free probability, we not only show the multiplicativity violation of maximum output norms in the asymptotic regimes but also prove the additivity violation via Haagerup inequality for a new c…
The problem of convergence of the joint moments, which depend on two parameters $s$ and $h$, of the characteristic polynomial of a random Haar-distributed unitary matrix and its derivative, as the matrix size goes to infinity, has been studied for two decades, beginning with the thesis of Hughes. Recently, Forrester considered the analogous problem for the Circular $β$-Ensemble (C$β$E) characteristic polynomial, proved convergence and obtained an explicit combinatorial formula for the limit for integer $s$ and complex $h$. In this paper we consider this problem for a generalisation of the C$β$…
The aim of this paper is to give a precise asymptotic description of some eigenvalue statistics stemming from random matrix theory. More precisely, we consider random determinants of the GUE, Laguerre, Uniform Gram and Jacobi beta ensembles and random characteristic polynomials evaluated at 1 for matrices in the Circular and Circular Jacobi beta ensembles. We use the framework of mod-Gaussian convergence to provide quantitative estimates of their logarithmic behavior, as the size of the ensemble grows to infinity. We establish central limit theorems, Berry-Esseen bounds, moderate deviations an…
We investigate the Wasserstein distance between the empirical spectral distribution of non-Hermitian random matrices and the Circular Law. For general entry distributions, we obtain a nearly optimal rate of convergence in 1-Wasserstein distance of order $n^{-1/2+ε}$ and we prove that the optimal rate $n^{-1/2}$ is attained by Ginibre matrices. This shows that the expected transport cost of complex eigenvalues to the uniform measure on the unit disk decays faster compared to that of i.i.d. points, which is known to include a logarithmic factor.
Necessary and sufficient conditions for convergence in distribution of first-rare-event times and convergence in Skorokhod J-topology of first-rare-event-time processes for perturbed semi-Markov processes with finite phase space are obtained.
We consider random Hermitian matrices with independent upper triangular entries. Wigner's semicircle law says that under certain additional assumptions, the empirical spectral distribution converges to the semicircle distribution. We characterize convergence to semicircle in terms of the variances of the entries, under natural assumptions such as the Lindeberg condition. The result extends to certain matrices with entries having infinite second moments. As a corollary, another characterization of semicircle convergence is given in terms of convergence in distribution of the row sums to the sta…
Let $\{x_α\}_{α\in \mathbb{Z}}$ and $\{y_α\}_{α\in \mathbb{Z}}$ be two independent collections of zero mean, unit variance random variables with uniformly bounded moments of all orders. Consider a nonsymmetric Toeplitz matrix $X_n = ((x_{i - j}))_{1 \le i, j \le n}$ and a Hankel matrix $Y_n = ((y_{i + j}))_{1 \le i, j \le n}$, and let $M_n = X_n \odot Y_n$ be their elementwise/Schur-Hadamard product. In this article, we show that almost surely, $n^{-1/2}M_n$, as an element of the $*$-probability space $(\mathcal{M}_n(\mathbb{C}), \frac{1}{n}\mathrm{tr})$, converges in $*$-distribution to a cir…
We consider non-Hermitian random matrices $X \in \mathbb{C}^{n \times n}$ with general decaying correlations between their entries. For large $n$, the empirical spectral distribution is well approximated by a deterministic density, expressed in terms of the solution to a system of two coupled non-linear $n \times n$ matrix equations. This density is interpreted as the Brown measure of a linear combination of free circular elements with matrix coefficients on a non-commutative probability space. It is radially symmetric, real analytic in the radial variable and strictly positive on a disk aroun…
This paper studies the convergence of three temporal semi-discretizations for a backward semilinear stochastic evolution equation. For general terminal value and general coefficient with Lipschitz continuity, the convergence of the first two temporal semi-discretizations is established, and an explicit convergence rate is derived for the third temporal semi-discretization. The third temporal semi-discretization is applied to a general stochastic linear quadratic control problem, and the convergence of a temporally semi-discrete approximation to the optimal control is established.
