We study collider phenomenology of a leptophobic $Z'$ boson existing in eight scenarios of the $E_6$ grand unified theory, differing in particle embeddings. We first review the current bound on the $Z'$ mass $m_{Z'}$ based upon the LHC data of $pp\to t\bar{t}$ process at 8 TeV collisions with an integrated luminosity of 19.6 fb$^{-1}$. Most scenarios have a lower bound of about 1 TeV. However, this constraint does not apply to the case where $m_{Z'} < 2 m_t$, and other methods need to be employed for this lower mass regime. Using existing UA2 constraints and dijet data at the LHC, we find that only one of the eight scenarios is excluded at 95\% confidence level. No bound can be obtained from $Wjj$ and $Zjj$ measurements. We propose to use the photon associated production of the $Z'$ boson that subsequently decays into a pair of bottom quarks, $pp\to Z'γ\to b\bar{b}γ$, at the LHC to explore the constraints in the lower mass regime. We compute the expected signal significance as a function of $m_{Z'}$ using detailed simulations of signal and irreducible background events. We find constraints for two more scenarios using the 8-TeV data and taking appropriate kinematical cuts. We also show the discovery reach for each scenario at the 14-TeV LHC machine.
The Higgs boson could provide the key to discover new physics at the Large Hadron Collider. We investigate novel decays of the Standard Model (SM) Higgs boson into leptophobic gauge bosons which can be light in agreement with all experimental constraints. We study the associated production of the SM Higgs and the leptophobic gauge boson that could be crucial to test the existence of a leptophobic force. Our results demonstrate that it is possible to have a simple gauge extension of the SM at the low scale, without assuming very small couplings and in agreement with all the experimental bounds …
Searching for heavy vector bosons $Z^\prime$, predicted in models inspired by Grand Unification Theories, is among the challenging objectives of the LHC. The ATLAS and CMS collaborations have looked for $Z^\prime$ bosons assuming that they can decay only into Standard Model channels, and have set exclusion limits by investigating dilepton, dijet and to a smaller extent top-antitop final states. In this work we explore possible loopholes in these $Z^\prime$ searches by studying supersymmetric as well as leptophobic scenarios. We demonstrate the existence of realizations in which the $Z^\prime$ …
The $U(1)$ extensions of the Standard Model contain a heavy neutral gauge boson $Z^\prime$. If leptophobic, the boson can evade the stringent bounds from the dilepton resonance searches. We consider two theoretically well-motivated examples of leptophobic $U(1)$ extensions in which the $Z'$ decays to right-handed neutrinos (RHNs) with substantial branchings. The coexistence of a leptophobic $Z^\prime$ and the RHNs opens up a new possibility of searching for these particles simultaneously through the production of a $Z^\prime$ at the LHC and its decay to a RHN pair. For this decay to occur, the…
We apply data taken at the $e^+e^-$ collider LEP in the 1990's at center-of-mass energy up to 209 GeV to constrain Dark Matter models with a light leptophobic spin-1 mediator $R$. We assume that the dark sector particle (DSP) is a spin-1/2 fermion $χ$. This scenario is well studied in the context of LHC searches for mediator mass from 100 GeV to several TeV. Emission of the mediator off a quark or antiquark at LEP gives rise to di-jet plus missing energy and 4-jet signatures, which we use to limit the relevant couplings. We focus on scenarios with $2 m_χ> m_R$, which are poorly constrained by …
We perform a comprehensive analysis of the secluded UMSSM model, consistent with present experimental constraints. We find that in this model the additional $Z^\prime$ gauge boson can be leptophobic without resorting to gauge kinetic mixing and, consequently, also $d$-quark-phobic, thus lowering the LHC bounds on its mass. The model can accommodate very light singlinos as DM candidates, consistent with present day cosmological and collider constraints. Light charginos and neutralinos are responsible for muon anomalous magnetic predictions within 1$σ$ of the measured experimental value. Finally…
The $Z'$-portal is one of most popular and well-explored scenarios of dark matter (DM). To avoid the strong constraints coming from dilepton resonance searches at the LHC and direct detection of DM, it is usually required that in addition to being leptophobic, the $Z'$ is axially coupled to either the (fermionic) DM or the standard model (SM) quarks. The first possibility has been extensively studied both in the context of simplified model and UV complete scenarios. However, the studies on the second possibiliy are largely confined to simplified models only. Here, we construct the minimal UV c…
We investigate the production of fermionic dark matter $χ$ via $pp \to pγp \to p j χ\barχX$ mediated by a leptophobic spin-1 particle, where one of the protons remains intact and is tagged by forward proton detectors. We find that the masses of $χ$ and the mediator $Z'$ are severely constrained when $Z'$ interacts with $χ$ and quarks through the vector couplings. We show that dark matter searches in this production channel are sensitive to a mediator mass $m_{Z'} \lesssim 1.4~\mathrm{TeV}$ at 14 TeV at the LHC with an integrated luminosity $L_{\rm{int}} = 3000~\rm{fb}^{-1}$. The lower mass bou…

The evaluation of one-loop matrix elements is one of the main bottlenecks in precision calculations for the high-luminosity phase of the Large Hadron Collider. To alleviate this problem, a new C++ interface to the MCFM parton-level Monte Carlo is introduced, giving access to an extensive library of analytic results for one-loop amplitudes. Timing comparisons are presented for a large set of Standard Model processes. These are relevant for high-statistics event simulation in the context of experimental analyses and precision fixed-order computations.
The presence of a hidden sector with very weak interactions with the standard model has significant implications on LHC signatures. In this work we discuss LHC phenomenology with the inclusion of a hidden sector by a $U(1)$ extension of MSSM/SUGRA. We consider both kinetic mixing and Stueckelberg mass mixing between the $U(1)$ gauge field of the hidden sector and $U(1)_Y$ of the visible sector. Such a model has an extended parameter space. We consider here two limited regions of this parameter space. In the first case we consider a $U(1)$ gauge field along with chiral fields needed for the Stu…
We investigate the LHC phenomenology of a model where the Standard Model (SM) scalar sector is extended by two real scalar singlets. A $\mathbb{Z}_2\otimes\mathbb{Z}_2'$ discrete symmetry is imposed to reduce the number of scalar potential parameters, which is spontaneously broken by the vacuum expectation values of the singlet fields. As a result, all three neutral scalar fields mix, leading to three neutral CP-even scalar bosons, out of which one is identified with the observed Higgs boson at 125 GeV. We explore all relevant collider signatures of the three scalars in this model. Besides the…
