In this paper we study aspects of geometries in Type IIA and Type IIB String theory and elaborate on their field theory dual pairs. The backgrounds are associated with reductions to Type IIA of solutions with $G_2$ holonomy in eleven dimensions. We classify these backgrounds according to their G-structure, perform a non-Abelian T-duality on them and find new Type IIB configurations presenting {\it dynamical} $SU(2)$-structure. We study some aspects of the associated field theories defined by these new backgrounds. Various technical details are clearly spelled out.
We summarise the recent results in 1810.08093, where the Type IIB AdS$_6$ solutions T-dual to the Brandhuber-Oz solution to massive Type IIA supergravity are shown to fit within an extension to allow for delocalized 5- and 7-branes of the global AdS$_6 \times S^2$ solutions constructed by D'Hoker, Gutperle and Uhlemann. We show that the Abelian T-dual solution provides an explicit example of a Riemann surface with the topology of an annulus.
We study entanglement entropy and the free energy in recently constructed holographic duals for 5d SCFTs in type IIB supergravity. The solutions exhibit mild singularities, which could potentially complicate holographic applications. We use the relation of the entanglement entropy for a spherical entangling surface to the free energy of the field theory on the five sphere as a well-motivated benchmark to assess how problematic the singularities are. The holographic supergravity computations give well-defined results for both quantities and they satisfy the expected relations. This supports the…
We study holographic dual descriptions of very special conformal field theories with the T(2) symmetry. After constructing solutions in effective five dimensional Einstein gravity coupled with massive two-form fields, we uplift them to the ten dimensional type IIB supergravity, via a consistent truncation ansatz, to derive new analytical solutions in string theory. From the Kaluza-Klein ansatz in terms of the internal Sasaki-Einstein space, we obtain their field theory interpretation with concrete realizations in a large class of holographic $\mathcal{N}=1$ supersymmetric conformal field theor…
We present a large class of new backgrounds that are solutions of type IIB supergravity with a warped AdS${}_5$ factor, non-trivial axion-dilaton, $B$-field and three-form Ramond-Ramond flux but yet have no five-form flux. We obtain these solutions and many of their variations by judiciously applying non-Abelian and Abelian T-dualities, as well as coordinate shifts to AdS${}_5\times X_5$ IIB supergravity solutions with $X_5=S^5, T^{1,1}, Y^{p,q}$. We address a number of issues pertaining to charge quantization in the context of non-Abelian T-duality. We comment on some properties of the expect…
We show that the first $AdS_6$ backgrounds in Type IIB supergravity known in the literature, namely those constructed via T-duality from the Brandhuber-Oz solution to massive IIA, fit within an extension of the global $AdS_6 \times S^2$ solutions with 7-branes warped over a Riemann surface $Σ$, recently classified by D'Hoker, Gutperle and Uhlemann, that describes delocalised 5-branes and 7-branes. The solution constructed through Abelian T-duality provides an explicit example of a Riemann surface with the topology of an annulus, that includes D7/O7-branes. In turn, the solution generated throu…
The background underlying the $η$-deformed $AdS_5\times S^5$ sigma-model is known to satisfy a generalization of the IIB supergravity equations. Their solutions are related by T-duality to solutions of type IIA supergravity with non-isometric linear dilaton. We show how the generalized IIB supergravity equations can be naturally obtained from exceptional field theory. Within this manifestly duality covariant formulation of maximal supergravity, the generalized IIB supergravity equations emerge upon imposing on the fields a simple Scherk-Schwarz ansatz which respects the section constraint.
We construct a new solution of type IIB supergravity with eight supercharges by applying non-Abelian T-duality to the $ AdS_5\times S^5$ solution, along the $ SU(2)$ isometries in both the internal and Lorentz symmetries. The study of quantised charges and D-brane embeddings suggests a configuration of D1 and D3'-branes that polarise into concentric, spherical, D3 and D5-branes due to the Myers dielectric effect. We find that our solution is dual to a IIB matrix model with fuzzy sphere vacua characterised by partitions of the number of D1 and D3'-branes. We also study the solution obtained via…
Large classes of warped AdS$_6$ solutions were constructed recently in Type IIB supergravity, and identified as holographic duals for five-dimensional superconformal field theories realized by $(p,q)$ five-brane webs. We confront holographic results for the five sphere partition functions obtained from these solutions with computations for the putative dual field theories. We obtain the sphere partition functions and conformal central charges in gauge theory deformations of the superconformal field theories numerically using supersymmetric localization, and extrapolate the results to the confo…
We provide further evidence that the recently constructed warped $AdS_6$ solutions in Type IIB supergravity are dual to 5d SCFTs that correspond to $(p,q)$ 5-brane webs with large numbers of like-charged external 5-branes. We study a number of specific examples, including the $T_N$ theory, and identify the bulk states dual to a class of operators with ${\cal O}(N)$ scaling dimensions in terms of strings and string-webs embedded in the solutions.
We use exceptional field theory to establish a duality between certain consistent 7-dimensional truncations with maximal SUSY from IIA to IIB. We use this technique to obtain new consistent truncations of IIB on $S^3$ and $H^{p,q}$ and work out the explicit reduction formulas in the internal sector. We also present uplifts for other gaugings of 7-d maximal SUGRA, including theories with a trombone gauging. Some of the latter can only be obtained by a non-geometric compactification.
We find an exact type IIB supergravity solution that represents a one-parameter deformation of the T-dual of the AdS_5 x S^5 background (with T-duality applied in all 6 abelian bosonic isometric directions). The non-trivial fields are the metric, dilaton and RR 5-form only. The latter has remarkably simple "undeformed" form when written in terms of a "deformation-rotated" vielbein basis. An unusual feature of this solution is that the dilaton contains a linear dependence on the isometric coordinates of the metric precluding a straightforward reversal of T-duality. If we still formally dualize …
In the exceptional field theory, there are two natural parameterizations for the generalized metric; in terms of bosonic fields in the eleven-dimensional supergravity (M-theory parameterization) and the type IIB supergravity (type IIB parameterization). In order to translate various results known in the M-theory to the type IIB theory or vice versa, an explicit map between the two parameterizations will be useful. In this note, we present such a linear map. Comparing the two parameterizations under the linear map, we reproduce the known T-duality transformation rules for the supergravity field…
We construct Type IIB supergravity solutions with geometry $AdS_6\times S^2$ warped over a disc with two boundary points where 5-branes emerge and punctures with 7-brane monodromy. They describe $(p,q)$ 5-brane junctions with two groups of like-charged external 5-branes that are unconstrained by the $s$-rule and an additional group of constrained 5-branes. The dual 5d SCFTs include various theories discussed previously in the literature. We match SCFT operators with scaling dimension of $\mathcal O(N)$ with their representation in supergravity to support the proposed dualities.
