We propose and analyze a decoupled time-marching scheme for the coupling of the Landau-Lifshitz-Gilbert equation with a quasilinear diffusion equation for the spin accumulation. This model describes the interplay of magnetization and electron spin accumulation in magnetic and non-magnetic multilayer structures. Despite the strong nonlinearity of the overall PDE system, the proposed integrator requires only the solution of two linear systems per time-step. Unconditional convergence of the integrator towards weak solutions is proved.
Since almost twenty years, modified Patankar--Runge--Kutta (MPRK) methods have proven to be efficient and robust numerical schemes that preserve positivity and conservativity of the production-destruction system irrespectively of the time step size chosen. Due to these advantageous properties they are used for a wide variety of applications. Nevertheless, until now, an analytic investigation of the stability of MPRK schemes is still missing, since the usual approach by means of Dahlquist's equation is not feasible. Therefore, we consider a positive and conservative 2D test problem and provide …
The energy dissipation law and the maximum bound principle (MBP) are two important physical features of the well-known Allen-Cahn equation. While some commonly-used first-order time stepping schemes have turned out to preserve unconditionally both energy dissipation law and MBP for the equation, restrictions on the time step size are still needed for existing second-order or even higher-order schemes in order to have such simultaneous preservation. In this paper, we develop and analyze novel first- and second-order linear numerical schemes for a class of Allen-Cahn type gradient flows. Our sch…

This work outlines a fast, high-precision time-domain solver for scalar, electromagnetic and gravitational perturbations on hyperboloidal foliations of Kerr space-times. Time-domain Teukolsky equation solvers have typically used explicit methods, which numerically violate Noether symmetries and are Courant-limited. These restrictions can limit the performance of explicit schemes when simulating long-time extreme mass ratio inspirals, expected to appear in LISA band for 2-5 years. We thus explore symmetric (exponential, Padé or Hermite) integrators, which are unconditionally stable and known to…
