Motivated by networked systems, stochastic control, optimization, and a wide variety of applications, this work is devoted to systems of switching jump diffusions. Treating such nonlinear systems, we focus on stability issues. First asymptotic stability in the large is obtained. Then the study on exponential p-stability is carried out. Connection between almost surely exponential stability and exponential p-stability is exploited. Also presented are smooth-dependence on the initial data. Using the smooth-dependence, necessary conditions for exponential p-stability are derived. Then criteria for asymptotic stability in distribution are provided. A couple of examples are given to illustrate our results.
This work focuses on stability analysis of numerical solutions to jump diffusions and jump diffusions with Markovian switching. Due to the use of Poisson processes, using asymptotic expansions as in the usual approach of treating diffusion processes does not work. Different from the existing treatments of Euler-Maurayama methods for solutions of stochastic differential equations, we use techniques from stochastic approximation. We analyze the almost sure exponential stability and exponential $p$-stability. The benchmark test model in numerical solutions, namely, one-dimensional linear scalar j…
This paper presents three versions of maximum principle for a stochastic optimal control problem of Markov regime-switching forward-backward stochastic differential equations with jumps (FBSDEJs). A general sufficient maximum principle for optimal control for a system driven by a Markov regime-switching forward and backward jump-diffusion model is developed. After, an equivalent maximum principle is proved. Malliavin calculus is also employed to derive a general stochastic maximum principle. The latter does not require concavity of Hamiltonian. Applications of the stochastic maximum principle …
In this paper, we study a stochastic linear-quadratic control problem with random coefficients and regime switching on a horizon $[0,T\wedgeτ]$, where $τ$ is a given random jump time for the underlying state process and $T$ is a constant. We obtain an explicit optimal state feedback control and explicit optimal cost value by solving a system of stochastic Riccati equations (SREs) with jumps on $[0,T\wedgeτ]$. By the decomposition approach stemming from filtration enlargement theory, we express the solution of the system of SREs with jumps in terms of another system of SREs involving only Brown…
This work develops an approximation procedure for a class of non-zero-sum stochastic differential investment and reinsurance games between two insurance companies. Both proportional reinsurance and excess-of loss reinsurance policies are considered. We develop numerical algorithms to obtain the Nash equilibrium by adopting the Markov chain approximation methodology and applying the dynamical programming principle for the nonlinear integro-differential Hamilton-Jacobi-Isaacs (HJI) equations. Furthermore, we establish the convergence of the approximation sequences and the approximation to the va…
We consider a jump-diffusion mean field control problem with regime switching in the state dynamics. The corresponding value function is characterized as the unique viscosity solution of a HJB master equation on the space of probability measures. Using this characterization, we prove that the value function, which is not regular, is the limit of a finite agent centralized optimal control problem as the number of agents go to infinity, with an explicit convergence rate. Assuming in addition that the value function is smooth, we establish a quantitative propagation of chaos result for the optima…
We prove maximum principles for the problem of optimal control for a jump diffusion with infinite horizon and partial information. The results are applied to partial information optimal consumption and portfolio problems in infinite horizon.
The Hybrid Minimum Principle (HMP) is established for the optimal control of deterministic hybrid systems with both autonomous and controlled switchings and jumps where state jumps at the switching instants are permitted to be accompanied by changes in the dimension of the state space. First order variational analysis is performed via the needle variation methodology and the necessary optimality conditions are established in the form of the HMP. A feature of special interest in this work is the explicit presentations of boundary conditions on the Hamiltonians and the adjoint processes before a…
This paper provides a geometrical derivation of the Hybrid Minimum Principle (HMP) for autonomous impulsive hybrid systems on Riemannian manifolds, i.e. systems where the manifold valued component of the hybrid state trajectory may have a jump discontinuity when the discrete component changes value. The analysis is expressed in terms of extremal trajectories on the cotangent bundle of the manifold state space. In the case of autonomous hybrid systems, switching manifolds are defined as smooth embedded submanifolds of the state manifold and the jump function is defined as a smooth map on the sw…
The finite state semi-Markov process is a generalization over the Markov chain in which the sojourn time distribution is any general distribution. In this article we provide a sufficient stochastic maximum principle for the optimal control of a semi-Markov modulated jump-diffusion process in which the drift, diffusion and the jump kernel of the jump-diffusion process is modulated by a semi-Markov process. We also connect the sufficient stochastic maximum principle with the dynamic programming equation. We apply our results to finite horizon risk-sensitive control portfolio optimization problem…
In this paper we consider non convex control problems of stochastic differential equations driven by relaxed controls. We present existence of optimal controls and then develop necessary conditions of optimality. We cover both continuous diffusion and Jump processes.
In this paper, we propose a direct solution method for optimal switching problems of one-dimensional diffusions. This method is free from conjectures about the form of the value function and switching strategies, or does not require the proof of optimality through quasi-variational inequalities. The direct method uses a general theory of optimal stopping problems for one-dimensional diffusions and characterizes the value function as sets of the smallest linear majorants in their respective transformed spaces.
We prove a sufficient stochastic maximum principle for the optimal control of a regime-switching diffusion model. We show the connection to dynamic programming and we apply the result to a quadratic loss minimization problem, which can be used to solve a mean-variance portfolio selection problem.
This paper studies regularity property of the value function for an infinite-horizon discounted cost impulse control problem, where the underlying controlled process is a multidimensional jump diffusion with possibly `infinite-activity' jumps. Surprisingly, despite these jumps, we obtain the same degree of regularity as for the diffusion case, at least when the jump satisfies certain integrability conditions.
This paper is the first part of a series of papers on filtering for partially observed jump diffusions satisfying a stochastic differential equation driven by Wiener processes and Poisson martingale measures. The coefficients of the equation only satisfy appropriate growth conditions. Some results in filtering theory of diffusion processes are extended to jump diffusions and equations for the time evolution of the conditional distribution and the unnormalised conditional distribution of the unobserved process at time $t$, given the observations until $t$, are presented.
Regularity of the impulse control problem for a non-degenerate $n$-dimensional jump diffusion with infinite activity and finite variation jumps was recently examined by Davis, Guo, and Wu (SICON 2010). Here we extend the analysis to include infinite activity and infinite variation jumps. More specifically, we show that the value function $u$ of the impulse control problem satisfies $u\in W^{2,p}_{\mathrm{loc}}(\mathbb{R}^{n})$.
We study a class of non linear integro-differential equations on the Wasserstein space related to the optimal control of McKean--Vlasov jump-diffusions. We develop an intrinsic notion of viscosity solutions that does not rely on the lifting to an Hilbert space and prove a comparison theorem for these solutions. We also show that the value function is the unique viscosity solution.
We study the problem of optimal stopping of conditional McKean-Vlasov (mean-field) stochastic differential equations with jumps (conditional McKean-Vlasov jump diffusions, for short). We obtain sufficient variational inequalities for a function to be the value function of such a problem and for a stopping time to be optimal. To achieve this, we combine the state equation for the conditional McKean-Vlasov equation with the associated stochastic Fokker-Planck equation for the conditional law of the solution of the state. This gives us a Markovian system which can be handled by using a version of…
The purpose of this paper is to study optimal control of conditional McKean-Vlasov (mean-field) stochastic differential equations with jumps (conditional McKean-Vlasov jump diffusions, for short). To this end, we first prove a stochastic Fokker-Planck equation for the conditional law of the solution of such equations. Combining this equation with the original state equation, we obtain a Markovian system for the state and its conditional law. Furthermore, we apply this to formulate an Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman (HJB) equation for the optimal control of conditional McKean-Vlasov jump diffusions. Th…
We establish a nondominated version of the optional decomposition theorem in a setting that includes jump processes with nonvanishing diffusion as well as general continuous processes. This result is used to derive a robust superhedging duality and the existence of an optimal superhedging strategy for general contingent claims. We illustrate the main results in the framework of nonlinear Lévy processes.
The value function of an optimal stopping problem for jump diffusions is known to be a generalized solution of a variational inequality. Assuming that the diffusion component of the process is nondegenerate and a mild assumption on the singularity of the Lévy measure, this paper shows that the value function of this optimal stopping problem on an unbounded domain with finite/infinite variation jumps is in $W^{2,1}_{p, loc}$ with $p\in(1, \infty)$. As a consequence, the smooth-fit property holds.

We consider a couple of integrodifferential PDEs arising from a stochastic Markovian control problem subjected to initial-terminal conditions. These equations correspond to the MFG system for a controlled jump-diffusion process. We prove that for a specific choice of the control function the expectation of the jump-diffusion process can be found explicitly. The study is an extension of similar results known for the pure diffusion process. As an example, we show how this can be applied to the problem of investors evaluating the trend of an asset when choosing an optimal portfolio.
