Sign truncated matching pursuit (STrMP) algorithm is presented in this paper. STrMP is a new greedy algorithm for the recovery of sparse signals from the sign measurement, which combines the principle of consistent reconstruction with orthogonal matching pursuit (OMP). The main part of STrMP is as concise as OMP and hence STrMP is simple to implement. In contrast to previous greedy algorithms for one-bit compressed sensing, STrMP only need to solve a convex and unconstraint subproblem at each iteration. Numerical experiments show that STrMP is fast and accurate for one-bit compressed sensing compared with other algorithms.
Greedy Pursuits are very popular in Compressed Sensing for sparse signal recovery. Though many of the Greedy Pursuits possess elegant theoretical guarantees for performance, it is well known that their performance depends on the statistical distribution of the non-zero elements in the sparse signal. In practice, the distribution of the sparse signal may not be known a priori. It is also observed that performance of Greedy Pursuits degrades as the number of available measurements decreases from a threshold value which is method dependent. To improve the performance in these situations, we intro…
We consider a distributed compressed sensing scenario where many sensors measure correlated sparse signals and the sensors are connected through a network. Correlation between sparse signals is modeled by a partial common support-set. For such a scenario, the main objective of this paper is to develop a greedy pursuit algorithm. We develop a distributed parallel pursuit (DIPP) algorithm based on exchange of information about estimated support-sets at sensors. The exchange of information helps to improve estimation of the partial common support-set, that in turn helps to gradually improve estim…
In this article, we discuss a novel greedy algorithm for the recovery of compressive sampled signals under noisy conditions. Most of the greedy recovery algorithms proposed in the literature require sparsity of the signal to be known or they estimate sparsity, for a known representation basis, from the number of measurements. These algorithms recover signals when noise level is significantly low. We propose Entropy minimization based Matching Pursuit (EMP) which has the capability to reject noise even when noise level is comparable to that of signal level. The proposed algorithm can cater to c…
In this letter, a binary sparse Bayesian learning (BSBL) algorithm is proposed to slove the one-bit compressed sensing (CS) problem in both single measurement vector (SMV) and multiple measurement vectors (MMVs). By utilising the Bussgang-like decomposition, the one-bit CS problem can be approximated as a standard linear model. Consequently, the standard SBL algorithm can be naturally incorporated. Numerical results demonstrate the effectiveness of the BSBL algorithm.
In one-bit compressed sensing, previous results state that sparse signals may be robustly recovered when the measurements are taken using Gaussian random vectors. In contrast to standard compressed sensing, these results are not extendable to natural non-Gaussian distributions without further assumptions, as can be demonstrated by simple counter-examples. We show that approximately sparse signals that are not extremely sparse can be accurately reconstructed from single-bit measurements sampled according to a sub-gaussian distribution, and the reconstruction comes as the solution to a convex pr…
Motivated by the question of optimal functional approximation via compressed sensing, we propose generalizations of the Iterative Hard Thresholding and the Compressive Sampling Matching Pursuit algorithms able to promote sparse in levels signals. We show, by means of numerical experiments, that the proposed algorithms are successfully able to outperform their unstructured variants when the signal exhibits the sparsity structure of interest. Moreover, in the context of piecewise smooth function approximation, we numerically demonstrate that the structure promoting decoders outperform their unst…
Compressed sensing is now established as an effective method for dimension reduction when the underlying signals are sparse or compressible with respect to some suitable basis or frame. One important, yet under-addressed problem regarding the compressive acquisition of analog signals is how to perform quantization. This is directly related to the important issues of how "compressed" compressed sensing is (in terms of the total number of bits one ends up using after acquiring the signal) and ultimately whether compressed sensing can be used to obtain compressed representations of suitable signa…
The realisation of sensing modalities based on the principles of compressed sensing is often hindered by discrepancies between the mathematical model of its sensing operator, which is necessary during signal recovery, and its actual physical implementation, which can amply differ from the assumed model. In this paper we tackle the bilinear inverse problem of recovering a sparse input signal and some unknown, unstructured multiplicative factors affecting the sensors that capture each compressive measurement. Our methodology relies on collecting a few snapshots under new draws of the sensing ope…
In this paper, we analyze the information theoretic lower bound on the necessary number of samples needed for recovering a sparse signal under different compressed sensing settings. We focus on the weighted graph model, a model-based framework proposed by Hegde et al. (2015), for standard compressed sensing as well as for one-bit compressed sensing. We study both the noisy and noiseless regimes. Our analysis is general in the sense that it applies to any algorithm used to recover the signal. We carefully construct restricted ensembles for different settings and then apply Fano's inequality to …
We propose a new iterative greedy algorithm for reconstructions of sparse signals with or without noisy perturbations in compressed sensing. The proposed algorithm, called \emph{subspace thresholding pursuit} (STP) in this paper, is a simple combination of subspace pursuit and iterative hard thresholding. Firstly, STP has the theoretical guarantee comparable to that of $\ell_1$ minimization in terms of restricted isometry property. Secondly, with a tuned parameter, on the one hand, when reconstructing Gaussian signals, it can outperform other state-of-the-art reconstruction algorithms greatly;…
This paper studies the problem of recovering a signal from one-bit compressed sensing measurements under a manifold model; that is, assuming that the signal lies on or near a manifold of low intrinsic dimension. We provide a convex recovery method based on the Geometric Multi-Resolution Analysis and prove recovery guarantees with a near-optimal scaling in the intrinsic manifold dimension. Our method is the first tractable algorithm with such guarantees for this setting. The results are complemented by numerical experiments confirming the validity of our approach.
We consider the problem of sparse signal recovery from 1-bit measurements. Due to the noise present in the acquisition and transmission process, some quantized bits may be flipped to their opposite states. These sign flips may result in severe performance degradation. In this study, a novel algorithm, termed HISTORY, is proposed. It consists of Hamming support detection and coefficients recovery. The HISTORY algorithm has high recovery accuracy and is robust to strong measurement noise. Numerical results are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed algorithm.
Compressed sensing (CS) and 1-bit CS cannot directly recover quantized signals and require time consuming recovery. In this paper, we introduce \textit{Hamming compressed sensing} (HCS) that directly recovers a k-bit quantized signal of dimensional $n$ from its 1-bit measurements via invoking $n$ times of Kullback-Leibler divergence based nearest neighbor search. Compared with CS and 1-bit CS, HCS allows the signal to be dense, takes considerably less (linear) recovery time and requires substantially less measurements ($\mathcal O(\log n)$). Moreover, HCS recovery can accelerate the subsequent…
A simple hard-thresholding operation is shown to be able to recover $L$ signals $\mathbf{x}_1,...,\mathbf{x}_L \in \mathbb{R}^n$ that share a common support of size $s$ from $m = \mathcal{O}(s)$ one-bit measurements per signal if $L \ge \log(en/s)$. This result improves the single signal recovery bounds with $m = \mathcal{O}(s\log(en/s))$ measurements in the sense that asymptotically fewer measurements per non-zero entry are needed. Numerical evidence supports the theoretical considerations.
There have been a number of studies on sparse signal recovery from one-bit quantized measurements. Nevertheless, little attention has been paid to the choice of the quantization thresholds and its impact on the signal recovery performance. This paper examines the problem of one-bit quantizer design for sparse signal recovery. Our analysis shows that the magnitude ambiguity that ever plagues conventional one-bit compressed sensing methods can be resolved, and an arbitrarily small reconstruction error can be achieved by setting the quantization thresholds close enough to the original data sample…
Is it possible to obliviously construct a set of hyperplanes H such that you can approximate a unit vector x when you are given the side on which the vector lies with respect to every h in H? In the sparse recovery literature, where x is approximately k-sparse, this problem is called one-bit compressed sensing and has received a fair amount of attention the last decade. In this paper we obtain the first scheme that achieves almost optimal measurements and sublinear decoding time for one-bit compressed sensing in the non-uniform case. For a large range of parameters, we improve the state of the…
This paper studies the stability of some reconstruction algorithms for compressed sensing in terms of the bit precision. Considering the fact that practical digital systems deal with discretized signals, we motivate the importance of the total number of accurate bits needed from the measurement outcomes in addition to the number of measurements. It is shown that if one uses a $2k \times n$ Vandermonde matrix with roots on the unit circle as the measurement matrix, $O(\ell + k \log(n/k))$ bits of precision per measurement are sufficient to reconstruct a $k$-sparse signal $x \in \R^n$ with dynam…
A key aspect for any greedy pursuit algorithm used in compressed sensing is a good support-set detection method. For distributed compressed sensing, we consider a setup where many sensors measure sparse signals that are correlated via the existence of a signals' intersection support-set. This intersection support-set is called the joint support-set. Estimation of the joint support-set has a high impact on the performance of a distributed greedy pursuit algorithm. This estimation can be achieved by exchanging local support-set estimates followed by a (consensus) voting method. In this paper we …
We investigate the sign-linear embeddings of 1-bit compressed sensing given by Gaussian measurements. One can give short arguments concerning a Restricted Isometry Property of such maps using Vapnik-Chervonenkis dimension of sparse hemispheres. This approach has a natural extension to the presence of additive white noise prior to quantization. Noisy one-bit mappings are shown to satisfy an RIP when the metric on the sphere is given by the noise.
We study the problem of approximately recovering signals on a manifold from one-bit linear measurements drawn from either a Gaussian ensemble, partial circulant ensemble, or bounded orthonormal ensemble and quantized using Sigma-Delta or distributed noise shaping schemes. We assume we are given a Geometric Multi-Resolution Analysis, which approximates the manifold, and we propose a convex optimization algorithm for signal recovery. We prove an upper bound on the recovery error which outperforms prior works that use memoryless scalar quantization, requires a simpler analysis, and extends the cl…
This letter proposes a dictionary learning algorithm for blind one bit compressed sensing. In the blind one bit compressed sensing framework, the original signal to be reconstructed from one bit linear random measurements is sparse in an unknown domain. In this context, the multiplication of measurement matrix $\Ab$ and sparse domain matrix $Φ$, \ie $\Db=\AbΦ$, should be learned. Hence, we use dictionary learning to train this matrix. Towards that end, an appropriate continuous convex cost function is suggested for one bit compressed sensing and a simple steepest-descent method is exploited to…
We propose a novel greedy algorithm for the support recovery of a sparse signal from a small number of noisy measurements. In the proposed method, a new support index is identified for each iteration based on bit-wise maximum a posteriori (B-MAP) detection. This is optimal in the sense of detecting one of the remaining support indices, provided that all the detected indices in the previous iterations are correct. Despite its optimality, it requires an expensive complexity for computing the maximization metric (i.e., a posteriori probability of each remaining support) due to the marginalization…
A major enterprise in compressed sensing and sparse approximation is the design and analysis of computationally tractable algorithms for recovering sparse, exact or approximate, solutions of underdetermined linear systems of equations. Many such algorithms have now been proven to have optimal-order uniform recovery guarantees using the ubiquitous Restricted Isometry Property (RIP). However, it is unclear when the RIP-based sufficient conditions on the algorithm are satisfied. We present a framework in which this task can be achieved; translating these conditions for Gaussian measurement matric…
This letter proposes a low-computational Bayesian algorithm for noisy sparse recovery in the context of one bit compressed sensing with sensing matrix perturbation. The proposed algorithm which is called BHT-MLE comprises a sparse support detector and an amplitude estimator. The support detector utilizes Bayesian hypothesis test, while the amplitude estimator uses an ML estimator which is obtained by solving a convex optimization problem. Simulation results show that BHT-MLE algorithm offers more reconstruction accuracy than that of an ML estimator (MLE) at a low computational cost.
In this work, we show that reconstructing a sparse signal from quantized compressive measurement can be achieved in an unified formalism whatever the (scalar) quantization resolution, i.e., from 1-bit to high resolution assumption. This is achieved by generalizing the iterative hard thresholding (IHT) algorithm and its binary variant (BIHT) introduced in previous works to enforce the consistency of the reconstructed signal with respect to the quantization model. The performance of this algorithm, simply called quantized IHT (QIHT), is evaluated in comparison with other approaches (e.g., IHT, b…

This letter proposes a sparse diffusion steepest-descent algorithm for one bit compressed sensing in wireless sensor networks. The approach exploits the diffusion strategy from distributed learning in the one bit compressed sensing framework. To estimate a common sparse vector cooperatively from only the sign of measurements, steepest-descent is used to minimize the suitable global and local convex cost functions. A diffusion strategy is suggested for distributive learning of the sparse vector. Simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed distributed algorithm compared to the stat…
Compressed sensing (CS) is on recovery of high dimensional signals from their low dimensional linear measurements under a sparsity prior and digital quantization of the measurement data is inevitable in practical implementation of CS algorithms. In the existing literature, the quantization error is modeled typically as additive noise and the multi-bit and 1-bit quantized CS problems are dealt with separately using different treatments and procedures. In this paper, a novel variational Bayesian inference based CS algorithm is presented, which unifies the multi- and 1-bit CS processing and is ap…
In this paper we consider memoryless one-bit compressed sensing with randomly subsampled Gaussian circulant matrices. We show that in a small sparsity regime and for small enough accuracy $δ$, $m\sim δ^{-4} s\log(N/sδ)$ measurements suffice to reconstruct the direction of any $s$-sparse vector up to accuracy $δ$ via an efficient program. We derive this result by proving that partial Gaussian circulant matrices satisfy an $\ell_1/\ell_2$ RIP-property. Under a slightly worse dependence on $δ$, we establish stability with respect to approximate sparsity, as well as full vector recovery results.
In this paper, we study the problem of robust phase recovery. We investigate a novel approach based on extremely quantized (one-bit) phase-less measurements and a corresponding recovery scheme. The proposed approach has surprising robustness and stability properties and, unlike currently available methods, allows to efficiently perform phase recovery from measurements affected by severe (possibly unknown) non-linear perturbations, such as distortions (e.g. clipping). Beyond robustness, we show how our approach can be used within greedy approaches based on alternating minimization. In particula…
The 1-bit compressed sensing framework enables the recovery of a sparse vector x from the sign information of each entry of its linear transformation. Discarding the amplitude information can significantly reduce the amount of data, which is highly beneficial in practical applications. In this paper, we present a Bayesian approach to signal reconstruction for 1-bit compressed sensing, and analyze its typical performance using statistical mechanics. Utilizing the replica method, we show that the Bayesian approach enables better reconstruction than the L1-norm minimization approach, asymptotical…
We give the first computationally tractable and almost optimal solution to the problem of one-bit compressed sensing, showing how to accurately recover an s-sparse vector x in R^n from the signs of O(s log^2(n/s)) random linear measurements of x. The recovery is achieved by a simple linear program. This result extends to approximately sparse vectors x. Our result is universal in the sense that with high probability, one measurement scheme will successfully recover all sparse vectors simultaneously. The argument is based on solving an equivalent geometric problem on random hyperplane tessellati…
We present optimal sample complexity estimates for one-bit compressed sensing problems in a realistic scenario: the procedure uses a structured matrix (a randomly sub-sampled circulant matrix) and is robust to analog pre-quantization noise as well as to adversarial bit corruptions in the quantization process. Our results imply that quantization is not a statistically expensive procedure in the presence of nontrivial analog noise: recovery requires the same sample size one would have needed had the measurement matrix been Gaussian and the noisy analog measurements been given as data.
The multiterminal secret key agreement problem by public discussion is formulated with an additional source compression step where, prior to the public discussion phase, users independently compress their private sources to filter out strongly correlated components for generating a common secret key. The objective is to maximize the achievable key rate as a function of the joint entropy of the compressed sources. Since the maximum achievable key rate captures the total amount of information mutual to the compressed sources, an optimal compression scheme essentially maximizes the multivariate m…
In this letter, the problem of sparse signal reconstruction from one bit compressed sensing measurements is investigated. To solve the problem, a variational Bayes framework with a new statistical multivariate model is used. The dependency of the wavelet decomposition coefficients is modeled with a multivariate Gaussian copula. This model can separate marginal structure of coefficients from their intra scale dependency. In particular, the drawable Gaussian vine copula multivariate double Lomax model is suggested. The reconstructed signal is derived by variational Bayes algorithm which can calc…
For compressed sensing over arbitrarily connected networks, we consider the problem of estimating underlying sparse signals in a distributed manner. We introduce a new signal model that helps to describe inter-signal correlation among connected nodes. Based on this signal model along with a brief survey of existing greedy algorithms, we develop distributed greedy algorithms with low communication overhead. Incorporating appropriate modifications, we design two new distributed algorithms where the local algorithms are based on appropriately modified existing orthogonal matching pursuit and subs…
In the problem of one-bit compressed sensing, the goal is to find a $δ$-close estimation of a $k$-sparse vector $x \in \mathbb{R}^n$ given the signs of the entries of $y = Φx$, where $Φ$ is called the measurement matrix. For the one-bit compressed sensing problem, previous work \cite{Plan-robust,support} achieved $Θ(δ^{-2} k \log(n/k))$ and $\tilde{ \Oh} ( \frac{1}{ δ} k \log (n/k))$ measurements, respectively, but the decoding time was $Ω( n k \log (n / k ))$. \ In this paper, using tools and techniques developed in the context of two-stage group testing and streaming algorithms, we contribut…
In frequency-division duplexing (FDD) massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems, 1-bit compressed sensing (CS)-based superimposed channel state information (CSI) feedback has shown many advantages, while still faces many challenges, such as low accuracy of the downlink CSI recovery and large processing delays. To overcome these drawbacks, this paper proposes a deep learning (DL) scheme to improve the 1-bit compressed sensing-based superimposed CSI feedback. On the user side, the downlink CSI is compressed with the 1-bit CS technique, superimposed on the uplink user data sequences (…
We address the issue of applying quantized compressed sensing (CS) on low-energy telemonitoring. So far, few works studied this problem in applications where signals were only approximately sparse. We propose a two-stage data compressor based on quantized CS, where signals are compressed by compressed sensing and then the compressed measurements are quantized with only 2 bits per measurement. This compressor can greatly reduce the transmission bit-budget. To recover signals from underdetermined, quantized measurements, we develop a Bayesian De-quantization algorithm. It can exploit both the mo…
One-bit quantization with time-varying sampling thresholds has recently found significant utilization potential in statistical signal processing applications due to its relatively low power consumption and low implementation cost. In addition to such advantages, an attractive feature of one-bit analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) is their superior sampling rates as compared to their conventional multi-bit counterparts. This characteristic endows one-bit signal processing frameworks with what we refer to as sample abundance. On the other hand, many signal recovery and optimization problems are …
Compressed sensing is a technique for recovering a high-dimensional signal from lower-dimensional data, whose components represent partial information about the signal, utilizing prior knowledge on the sparsity of the signal. For further reducing the data size of the compressed expression, a scheme to recover the original signal utilizing only the sign of each entry of the linearly transformed vector was recently proposed. This approach is often termed the 1-bit compressed sensing. Here we analyze the typical performance of an L1-norm based signal recovery scheme for the 1-bit compressed sensi…
The one-bit compressed sensing framework aims to reconstruct a sparse signal by only using the sign information of its linear measurements. To compensate for the loss of scale information, past studies in the area have proposed recovering the signal by imposing an additional constraint on the L2-norm of the signal. Recently, an alternative strategy that captures scale information by introducing a threshold parameter to the quantization process was advanced. In this paper, we analyze the typical behavior of the thresholding 1-bit compressed sensing utilizing the replica method of statistical me…
Recovery of sparse signals from compressed measurements constitutes an l0 norm minimization problem, which is unpractical to solve. A number of sparse recovery approaches have appeared in the literature, including l1 minimization techniques, greedy pursuit algorithms, Bayesian methods and nonconvex optimization techniques among others. This manuscript introduces a novel two stage greedy approach, called the Forward-Backward Pursuit (FBP). FBP is an iterative approach where each iteration consists of consecutive forward and backward stages. The forward step first expands the support estimate by…
In this paper, we propose a novel iterative encoding algorithm for DNA storage to satisfy both the GC balance and run-length constraints using a greedy algorithm. DNA strands with run-length more than three and the GC balance ratio far from 50\% are known to be prone to errors. The proposed encoding algorithm stores data at high information density with high flexibility of run-length at most $m$ and GC balance between $0.5\pmα$ for arbitrary $m$ and $α$. More importantly, we propose a novel mapping method to reduce the average bit error compared to the randomly generated mapping method, using …
This letter presents the sparse vector signal detection from one bit compressed sensing measurements, in contrast to the previous works which deal with scalar signal detection. In this letter, available results are extended to the vector case and the GLRT detector and the optimal quantizer design are obtained. Also, a double-detector scheme is introduced in which a sensor level threshold detector is integrated into network level GLRT to improve the performance. The detection criteria of oracle and clairvoyant detectors are also derived. Simulation results show that with careful design of the t…
The Binary Iterative Hard Thresholding (BIHT) algorithm is a popular reconstruction method for one-bit compressed sensing due to its simplicity and fast empirical convergence. There have been several works about BIHT but a theoretical understanding of the corresponding approximation error and convergence rate still remains open. This paper shows that the normalized version of BIHT (NBHIT) achieves an approximation error rate optimal up to logarithmic factors. More precisely, using $m$ one-bit measurements of an $s$-sparse vector $x$, we prove that the approximation error of NBIHT is of order $…
Based on $α$-stable random projections with small $α$, we develop a simple algorithm for compressed sensing (sparse signal recovery) by utilizing only the signs (i.e., 1-bit) of the measurements. Using only 1-bit information of the measurements results in substantial cost reduction in collection, storage, communication, and decoding for compressed sensing. The proposed algorithm is efficient in that the decoding procedure requires only one scan of the coordinates. Our analysis can precisely show that, for a $K$-sparse signal of length $N$, $12.3K\log N/δ$ measurements (where $δ$ is the confide…
We show that a tessellation generated by a small number of random affine hyperplanes can be used to approximate Euclidean distances between any two points in an arbitrary bounded set $T$, where the random hyperplanes are generated by subgaussian or heavy-tailed normal vectors and uniformly distributed shifts. We derive quantitative bounds on the number of hyperplanes needed for constructing such tessellations in terms of natural metric complexity measures of $T$ and the desired approximation error. Our work extends significantly prior results in this direction, which were restricted to Gaussia…
This paper develops theoretical results regarding noisy 1-bit compressed sensing and sparse binomial regression. We show that a single convex program gives an accurate estimate of the signal, or coefficient vector, for both of these models. We demonstrate that an s-sparse signal in R^n can be accurately estimated from m = O(slog(n/s)) single-bit measurements using a simple convex program. This remains true even if each measurement bit is flipped with probability nearly 1/2. Worst-case (adversarial) noise can also be accounted for, and uniform results that hold for all sparse inputs are derived…
Greedy algorithm are in widespread use for sparse recovery because of its efficiency. But some evident flaws exists in most popular greedy algorithms, such as CoSaMP, which includes unreasonable demands on prior knowledge of target signal and excessive sensitivity to random noise. A new greedy algorithm called AMOP is proposed in this paper to overcome these obstacles. Unlike CoSaMP, AMOP can extract necessary information of target signal from sample data adaptively and operate normally with little prior knowledge. The recovery error of AMOP is well controlled when random noise is presented an…
Compressed sensing is a developing field aiming at reconstruction of sparse signals acquired in reduced dimensions, which make the recovery process under-determined. The required solution is the one with minimum $\ell_0$ norm due to sparsity, however it is not practical to solve the $\ell_0$ minimization problem. Commonly used techniques include $\ell_1$ minimization, such as Basis Pursuit (BP) and greedy pursuit algorithms such as Orthogonal Matching Pursuit (OMP) and Subspace Pursuit (SP). This manuscript proposes a novel semi-greedy recovery approach, namely A* Orthogonal Matching Pursuit (…
The reconstruction of sparse signals requires the solution of an $\ell_0$-norm minimization problem in Compressed Sensing. Previous research has focused on the investigation of a single candidate to identify the support (index of nonzero elements) of a sparse signal. To ensure that the optimal candidate can be obtained in each iteration, we propose here an iterative greedy reconstruction algorithm (GSRA). First, the intersection of the support sets estimated by the Orthogonal Matching Pursuit (OMP) and Subspace Pursuit (SP) is set as the initial support set. Then, a hope-tree is built to expan…
This paper studies binary classification in robust one-bit compressed sensing with adversarial errors. It is assumed that the model is overparameterized and that the parameter of interest is effectively sparse. AdaBoost is considered, and, through its relation to the max-$\ell_1$-margin-classifier, prediction error bounds are derived. The developed theory is general and allows for heavy-tailed feature distributions, requiring only a weak moment assumption and an anti-concentration condition. Improved convergence rates are shown when the features satisfy a small deviation lower bound. In partic…
Recently, greedy algorithm has received much attention as a cost-effective means to reconstruct the sparse signals from compressed measurements. Much of previous work has focused on the investigation of a single candidate to identify the support (index set of nonzero elements) of the sparse signals. Well-known drawback of the greedy approach is that the chosen candidate is often not the optimal solution due to the myopic decision in each iteration. In this paper, we propose a greedy sparse recovery algorithm investigating multiple promising candidates via the tree search. Two key ingredients o…
We examine the minimum entropy coupling problem, where one must find the minimum entropy variable that has a given set of distributions $S = \{p_1, \dots, p_m \}$ as its marginals. Although this problem is NP-Hard, previous works have proposed algorithms with varying approximation guarantees. In this paper, we show that the greedy coupling algorithm of [Kocaoglu et al., AAAI'17] is always within $\log_2(e)$ ($\approx 1.44$) bits of the minimum entropy coupling. In doing so, we show that the entropy of the greedy coupling is upper-bounded by $H\left(\bigwedge S \right) + \log_2(e)$. This improv…
