We perform an instability analysis of the Emery three-band model at hole doping and weak coupling within a channel-decomposed functional renormalization group flow proposed in Phys. Rev. B 79, 195125 (2009). In our approach, momentum dependences are taken into account with improved precision compared to previous studies of related models. Around a generic parameter set, we find a strong competition of antiferromagnetic and d-wave Cooper instabilities with a smooth behavior under a variation of doping and additional hopping parameters. For increasingly incommensurate ordering tendencies in the magnetic channel, the d-wave pairing gap is deformed at its maxima. Comparing our results for the Emery model to those obtained for the two-dimensional one-band Hubbard model with effective parameters, we find that, despite considerable qualitative agreement, multi-orbital effects have a significant impact on a quantitative level.
The natural orbitals renormalization group (NORG) has previously been proposed as an efficient numerical method for solving zero-temperature properties of multisite and multiorbital quantum impurity systems. Here, we implement the NORG as an impurity solver for dynamical mean-field theory (DMFT). In comparison with the exact diagonalization method, the NORG method can treat much more bath sites in an impurity model to which the DMFT maps a lattice model and can find accurate zero-temperature Matsubara and low-frequency retarded Green's functions. We demonstrate the effectiveness of this method…
The effective interaction of downfolded low-energy models for electrons in solids can be obtained by integrating out the high energy bands away from the target band near the Fermi level. Here, we apply the constrained random-phase approximation (cRPA) and constrained functional renormalization group (cfRG), which can go beyond cRPA by including all one-loop diagrams, to calculate and compare the effective interactions of the three-band Emery model, which is often used to investigate cuprate high-temperature superconductors. At half band filling, we find that the effective interaction increases…
Theoretical studies recently predicted the condensation of spin-orbit excitons at momentum $q$=$π$ in $t_{2g}^4$ spin-orbit coupled three-orbital Hubbard models at electronic density $n=4$. In parallel, experiments involving iridates with non-integer valence states for the Ir ions are starting to attract considerable attention. In this publication, using the density matrix renormalization group technique we present evidence for the existence of a novel excitonic condensate at $n=3.5$ in a one-dimensional Hubbard model with a degenerate $t_{2g}$ sector, when in the presence of spin-orbit coupli…
In various multiorbital systems, the emergence of the orbital fluctuations and its role on the pairing mechanism attract increasing attention. To archive deep understanding on these issues, we perform the functional-renormalization-group (fRG) study for the two-orbital Hubbard model. The vertex corrections for the electron-boson coupling ($U$-VC), which are dropped in the Migdal-Eliashberg gap equation, are obtained by solving the RG equation. We reveal that the dressed electron-boson coupling for the charge-channel, $U_{eff}^c$, becomes much larger than the bare Coulomb interaction, $U^0$, du…
Correlated-electron theories of superconductivity in layered cuprates often start from the premise of a gapped spin-liquid phase proximate to the superconducting state. This assumption is justified based on analytical and numerical demonstrations of a superconducting Luther-Emery phase in the doped 2-leg one-band Hubbard ladder, and the perceived analogy between coupled ladders and the two dimensional CuO2 layer. We demonstrate from accurate density matrix renormalization group studies the absence of the superconducting Luther-Emery phase in the doped 2-leg three-band ladder consisting of both…
Using the Density Matrix Renormalization Group technique we study the effect of spin-orbit coupling on a three-orbital Hubbard model in the $(t_{2g})^{4}$ sector and in one dimension. Fixing the Hund coupling to a robust value compatible with some multiorbital materials, we present the phase diagram varying the Hubbard $U$ and spin-orbit coupling $λ$, at zero temperature. Our results are shown to be qualitatively similar to those recently reported using the Dynamical Mean Field Theory in higher dimensions, providing a robust basis to approximate many-body techniques. Among many results, we obs…
We re-examine the zero temperature phase diagram of the two-leg Hubbard ladder in the small $U$ limit, both analytically and using density-matrix renormalization group (DMRG). We find a ubiquitous Luther-Emery phase, but with a crossover in behavior at a characteristic interaction strength, $U^\star$; for $U \gtrsim U^\star$, there is a single emergent correlation length $\log[ξ] \sim 1/U$, characterizing the gapped modes of the system, but for $U\lesssim U^\star$ there is a hierarchy of length scales, differing parametrically in powers of $U$, reflecting a two-step renormalization group flow …
We present a new estimator for the self-energy based on a combination of two equations of motion and discuss its benefits for numerical renormalization group (NRG) calculations. In challenging regimes, NRG results from the standard estimator, a ratio of two correlators, often suffer from artifacts: the imaginary part of the retarded self-energy is not properly normalized and, at low energies, overshoots to unphysical values and displays wiggles. We show that the new estimator resolves the artifacts in these properties as they can be determined directly from the imaginary parts of auxiliary cor…
Spin-triplet superconductivity in Sr2RuO4 due to orbital and spin fluctuations: Analyses by two-dimensional renormalization group theory and self-consistent vertex-correction method
We investigate the influence of spin-orbit coupling $λ$ in strongly-correlated multiorbital systems that we describe by a three-orbital Hubbard-Kanamori model on a Bethe lattice. We solve the problem at all integer fillings $N$ with the dynamical mean-field theory using the continuous-time hybridization expansion Monte Carlo solver. We investigate how the quasiparticle renormalization $Z$ varies with the strength of spin-orbit coupling. The behavior can be understood for all fillings except $N=2$ in terms of the atomic Hamiltonian (the atomic charge gap) and the polarization in the $j$-basis d…
We compute the effects of generic short-range interactions on gapless electrons residing at the quantum critical point separating a two-dimensional Dirac semimetal (DSM) and a symmetry-preserving band insulator (BI). The electronic dispersion at this critical point is anisotropic ($E_{\mathbf k}=\pm \sqrt{v^2 k^2_x + b^2 k^{2n}_y}$ with $n=2$), which results in unconventional scaling of physical observables. Due to the vanishing density of states ($\varrho(E) \sim |E|^{1/n}$), this anisotropic semimetal (ASM) is stable against weak short-range interactions. However, for stronger interactions t…

A pair-density-wave (PDW) is a novel superconducting state with an oscillating order parameter. A microscopic mechanism that can give rise to it has been long sought but has not yet been established by any controlled calculation. Here we report a density-matrix renormalization group (DMRG) study of an effective $t$-$J$-$V$ model, which is equivalent to the Holstein-Hubbard model in a strong-coupling limit, on long two-, four- and six-leg triangular cylinders. While a state with long-range PDW order is precluded in one dimension, we find strong quasi-long-range PDW order with a divergent PDW su…
Inspired by the observation of a robust $d$-wave superconducting phase driven by tuning the next-nearest-neighbor (NNN) electron hopping in recent density matrix renormalization group (DMRG) studies of six- and eight-leg $t$-$J$ model, we systematically study the phase diagram of the two-leg $t$-$J$ ladder with the NNN couplings (including NNN hopping and spin interaction) in a large region of doping level, by means of the DMRG calculations. Upon doping from half filling, we identify the Luther-Emery liquid (LEL) phase, which can be distinguished as the pairing-dominant and charge density-domi…
