Bell inequalities define experimentally observable quantities to detect non-locality. In general, they involve correlation functions of all the parties. Unfortunately, these measurements are hard to implement for systems consisting of many constituents, where only few-body correlation functions are accessible. Here we demonstrate that higher-order correlation functions are not necessary to certify nonlocality in multipartite quantum states by constructing Bell inequalities from one- and two-body correlation functions for an arbitrary number of parties. The obtained inequalities are violated by some of the Dicke states, which arise naturally in many-body physics as the ground states of the two-body Lipkin-Meshkov-Glick Hamiltonian.
We study multipartite correlations and non-locality in an isotropic Ising ring under transverse magnetic field at both zero and finite temperature. We highlight parity-induced differences between the multipartite Bell-like functions used in order to quantify the degree of non-locality within a ring state and reveal a mechanism for the passive protection of multipartite quantum correlations against thermal spoiling effects that is clearly related to the macroscopic properties of the ring model.
The structure of Bell-type inequalities detecting genuine multipartite non-locality, and hence detecting genuine multipartite entanglement, is investigated. We first present a simple and intuitive approach to Svetlichny's original inequality, which provides a clear understanding of its structure and of its violation in quantum mechanics. Based on this approach, we then derive a family of Bell-type inequalities for detecting genuine multipartite non-locality in scenarios involving an arbitrary number of parties and systems of arbitrary dimension. Finally we discuss the thightness and quantum me…
The author cannot grant that Quantum Mechanics satisfies the axioms described here when repeated measurements are at stake. This does not compromise the validity of the conclusions of the previous article "A glance beyond the quantum model", Proc. Roy. Soc. Lond. A 466, 881-890 (2009).
The violations of Bell inequalities by measurements on quantum states give rise to the phenomenon of quantum non-locality and express the advantage of using quantum resources over classical ones for certain information-theoretic tasks. The relative degree of quantum violations has been well studied in the bipartite scenario and in the multipartite scenario with respect to fully local behaviours. However, the multipartite setting entails a more complex classification in which different notions on non-locality can be established. In particular, genuine multipartite non-local distributions appreh…
We propose a novel form of classification of multipartite states, in terms of the maximum degree of non-locality they can exhibit under any choice of local observables. This uses the hierarchy of notions previously introduced by Abramsky and Brandenburger: strong contextuality, logical contextuality, and probabilistic contextuality. We study n-qubit pure states. We conjecture that for more than 2 parties, all entangled states are logically contextual. We prove a number of results in support of this conjecture: (1) We show that all permutation-symmetric states are logically non-local. (2) We st…
The three-tangle-dependence of $S_{max} = \max <S>$, where $S$ is Svetlichny operator, are explicitly derived when one party moves with an uniform acceleration with respect to other parties in the generalized Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger and maximally slice states. The $π$-tangle-dependence of $S_{max}$ are also derived implicitly. From the dependence we conjecture that the multipartite entanglement is not the only physical resource for quantum mechanical multipartite non-locality.
Monogamy of bipartite correlations leads, for arbitrary pure multi-qubit states, to simple conditions able to indicate various types of multipartite entanglement by being capable to exclude the possibility of k-separability.
Mutually unbiased bases, mutually unbiased measurements and general symmetric informationally complete measurements are three related concepts in quantum information theory. We investigate multipartite systems using these notions and present some criteria detecting entanglement of arbitrary high dimensional multi-qudit systems and multipartite systems of subsystems with different dimensions. It is proved that these criteria can detect the $k$-nonseparability ($k$ is even) of multipartite qudit systems and arbitrary high dimensional multipartite systems of $m$ subsystems with different dimensio…
We introduce a new feature of no-signaling (Bell) non-local theories, namely, when a system of multiple parties manifests genuine non-local correlation, then there cannot be arbitrarily high non-local correlation among any subset of the parties. We call this feature, \textit{complementarity of genuine multipartite non-locality}. We use Svetlichny's criterion for genuine multipartite non-locality and non-local games to derive the complementarity relations under no-signaling constraints. We find that the complementarity relations are tightened for the much stricter quantum constraints. We compar…
We construct a set of criteria detecting genuine multipartite entanglement in arbitrary dimensional multipartite systems. These criteria are optimally suited for detecting multipartite entanglement in n-qubit Dicke states with m-excitations. In a detailed analysis we show that the criteria are also more robust to noise than any other criterion known so far, especially with increasing system size. Furthermore it is shown that the number of required local observables scales only polynomially with size, thus making the criteria experimentally feasible.
We derive necessary conditions in terms of the variances of position and momentum linear combinations for all kinds of separability of a multi-party multi-mode continuous-variable state. Their violations can be sufficient for genuine multipartite entanglement, provided the combinations contain both conjugate variables of all modes. Hence a complete state determination, for example by detecting the entire correlation matrix of a Gaussian state, is not needed.
We show a general approach for detecting genuine multipartite entanglement (GME) and partial inseparability in many-body-systems by means of macroscopic observables (such as the energy) only. We show that the obtained criteria, the "GME gap" and "the k-entanglement gap", detect large areas of genuine multipartite entanglement and partial entanglement in typical many body states, which are not detected by other criteria. As genuine multipartite entanglement is a necessary property for several quantum information theoretic applications such as e.g. secret sharing or certain kinds of quantum comp…
We devise a novel protocol to detect genuinely multipartite entangled states by harnessing quantum non-Markovian operations. We utilize a particular type of non-Markovianity known as the eternal non-Markovianity to construct a non-complete positive map to filter out the bi-separable states and detect genuine multipartite entanglement. We further propose a witness operator to detect genuinely multipartite entangled states experimentally based on this theory. Our study sheds light on a hitherto unexplored connection between entanglement theory and quantum non-Markovianity.
We present entanglement witness operators for detecting genuine multipartite entanglement. These witnesses are robust against noise and require only two local measurement settings when used in an experiment, independent from the number of qubits. This allows detection of entanglement for an increasing number of parties without a corresponding increase in effort. The witnesses presented detect states close to GHZ, cluster and graph states. Connections to Bell inequalities are also discussed.
According to the fundamental idea that a steering inequality can be constructed by just considering the measurements performed by Bob, and from the definitions of steering from Alice to Bob, a general scheme for designing two different kinds of linear steering inequalities (LSIs) is developed to detect the two-way steerability for bipartite system and the genuine multipartite two-way steerability for multipartite system, respectively. Besides the LSIs constructed from the known one-way criteria and the Bell operators, several other types of LSIs are also considered.
We study various types of multipartite states lying near the quantum-classical boundary. The class of so-called classical states are precisely those in which each party can perform a projective measurement to identify a locally held state without disturbing the global state, a task known as non-disruptive local state identification (NDLID). We introduce a new class of states called generalized-classical states which allow for NDLID when the most general quantum measurements are permitted. A simple analytic method as well as a physical criterion are presented for detecting whether a multipartit…

The Clauser-Horne-Shimony-Holt inequality was originally proposed as a Bell inequality to detect nonlocality in bipartite systems. However, it can also be used to certify the nonlocality of multipartite quantum states. We apply this to study the nonlocality of multipartite Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger, W and graph states under local decoherence processes. We derive lower bounds on the critical local-noise strength tolerated by GHZ states before becoming local. In addition, for the whole noisy dynamics, we derive lower bounds on the corresponding nonlocal content for the three classes of states.…
We propose a method to detect genuine quantum correlation for arbitrary quantum state in terms of the rank of coefficient matrices associated with the pure state. We then derive a necessary and sufficient condition for a quantum state to possess genuine correlation, namely that all corresponding coefficient matrices have rank larger than one. We demonstrate an approach to decompose the genuine quantum correlated state with high rank coefficient matrix into the form of product states with no genuine quantum correlation for pure state.
We discuss the problem of determining whether the state of several quantum mechanical subsystems is entangled. As in previous work on two subsystems we introduce a procedure for checking separability that is based on finding state extensions with appropriate properties and may be implemented as a semidefinite program. The main result of this work is to show that there is a series of tests of this kind such that if a multiparty state is entangled this will eventually be detected by one of the tests. The procedure also provides a means of constructing entanglement witnesses that could in princip…
We investigate genuine multipartite entanglement in general multipartite systems. Based on the norms of the correlation tensors of a multipartite state under various partitions, we present an analytical sufficient criterion for detecting the genuine four-partite entanglement. The results are generalized to arbitrary multipartite systems.
We propose a hierarchy of Bell-type inequalities for arbitrary $n$-partite systems that identify the different degrees of nonlocality ranging from standard to genuine multipartite nonlocality. After introducing the definition of nonsignaling $m$-locality, we show that the observed joint probabilities in any nonsignaling $m$-local realistic models should satisfy the $(m-1)$-th Bell-type inequality. When $m=2$ the corresponding inequality reduces to the one shown in [Phys. Rev. Lett. 112, 140404 (2014)] whose violation indicates genuine multipartite nonlocality, and when $m=n$ the corresponding …
We construct an explicit Wigner function for N-mode squeezed state. Based on a previous observation that the Wigner function describes correlations in the joint measurement of the phase-space displaced parity operator, we investigate the non-locality of multipartite entangled state by the violation of Zukowski-Brukner N-qubit Bell inequality. We find that quantum predictions for such squeezed state violate these inequalities by an amount that grows with the number N.
We derive a multipartite generalized Bell inequality which involves the entire range of settings for each of the local observers. Especially, it is applied to show non-local behavior of a six-qubit mixture of Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger correlations stronger than previous Bell inequalities. For certain noise admixture to the correlations an explicit local realistic model exists in the case of a standard Bell experiment. Bell experiments with many local settings reveal the non-locality of the state. It turns out that the new inequality is more stringent than many other Bell inequalities in the …
We study the entanglement of multipartite quantum states. Some lower bounds of the multipartite concurrence are reviewed. We further present more effective lower bounds for detecting and qualifying entanglement, by establishing functional relations between the concurrence and the generalized partial transpositions of the multipartite systems.
We review the criteria for separability and quantum entanglement, both in a bipartite as well as a multipartite setting. We discuss Bell inequalities, entanglement witnesses, entropic inequalities, bound entanglement and several features of multipartite entanglement. We indicate how these criteria bear on the experimental detection of quantum entanglement.
It is found that the measurement disturbance relation (MDR) determines the strength of quantum correlation and hence is one of the essential facets of the nature of quantum nonlocality. In reverse, the exact form of MDR may be ascertained through measuring the correlation function. To this aim, an optical experimental scheme is proposed. Moreover, by virtue of the correlation function, we find that the quantum entanglement, the quantum non-locality, and the uncertainty principle can be explicitly correlated.
Recently, there are tremendous developments on the number of controllable qubits in several quantum computing systems. For these implementations, it is crucial to determine the entanglement structure of the prepared multipartite quantum state as a basis for further information processing tasks. In reality, evaluation of a multipartite state is in general a very challenging task owing to the exponential increase of the Hilbert space with respect to the number of system components. In this work, we propose a systematic method using very few local measurements to detect multipartite entanglement …
Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen (EPR) steering is a form of quantum nonlocality which is intermediate between entanglement and Bell nonlocality. EPR steering is a resource for quantum key distribution that is device independent on only one side in that it certifies bipartite entanglement when one party's device is not characterized while the other party's device is fully characterized. In this work, we introduce two types of genuine tripartite EPR-steering, and derive two steering inequalities to detect them. In a semi-device-independent scenario where only the dimensions of two parties are assumed, t…
We assess quantum non-locality of multiparty entangled thermal states by studying, quantitatively, both tripartite and quadripartite states belonging to the Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger (GHZ), W and linear cluster-state classes and showing violation of relevant Bell-like inequalities. We discuss the conditions for maximizing the degree of violation against the local thermal character of the states and the inefficiency of the detection apparatuses. We demonstrate that such classes of multipartite entangled states can be made to last quite significantly, notwithstanding adverse operating conditio…

We derive a combinatorial criterion for detecting k-separability of N-partite Dicke states. The criterion is efficiently computable and implementable without full state tomography. We give examples in which the criterion succeeds, where known criteria fail.
Genuine multipartite nonlocality is a salient feature of quantum systems, empowering the security of multi-party device independent cryptographic protocols. Given a correlation, characterizing and detecting genuineness have been subjected to recent studies. In this regard, we propose a Hardy-type argument which is able to detect genuine $n$-way nonlocality of arbitrary quantum systems. To understand the strength of this argument we also study the optimal success probability of the argument in a minimally constrained theory, namely the generalized no-signaling theory.
Wigner's argument inferring Bell-type inequality for the EPR-Bohm entangled state is generalized here for any N-partite state. This is based on assuming for the relevant dichotomic observables the existence of the overall joint probability distributions, satisfying the locality condition, that would yield the measurable marginal probabilities. For any N, such Generalized Wigner's Inequality (GWI) is violated by quantum mechanics for all pure entangled states. The efficacy of GWI is probed, comparing with the Seevinck-Svetlichny multipartite Bell-type inequality, by calculating threshold visibi…
The most general class of non-locality criteria for N-partite d-chotomic systems with k number of measurement settings is derived under the constraint of measurement symmetries. It is the complete characterisation of the multi-partite non-locality when the correlation is assumed to be symmetric under the choice of measurement settings. The generalized non-locality condition is obtained using the correlation functions, which are derived from Fourier analysis of probability spectrums. It is found that the condition for the local hidden variable (LHV) model is violated by multipartite quantum sta…
The multipartite quantum networks feature multiple independent sources, in contrast to the conventional multipartite Bell experiment involving a single source. So far, network nonlocality has been explored when each source produces a two-qubit entangled state. In this work, we demonstrate the network nonlocality when each party performs a black-box measurement, and the dimension of the system remains unspecified. In an interesting work, by considering each source produces two-qubit entangled states in the conventional bilocal scenario, Gisin \emph{et. al.} in https://doi.org/10.1103/PhysRevA.9…
We present methods for detecting entanglement around symmetric Dicke states. In particular, we consider N-qubit symmetric Dicke states with N/2 excitations. In the first part of the paper we show that for large N these states have the smallest overlap possible with states without genuine multi-partite entanglement. Thus these states are particulary well suited for the experimental examination of multi-partite entanglement. We present fidelity-based entanglement witness operators for detecting multipartite entanglement around these states. In the second part of the paper we consider entanglemen…
Multipartite nonlocality in a network is conceptually different from standard multipartite Bell nonlocality. In recent times, network nonlocality has been studied for various topologies. We consider a linear-chain topology of the network and demonstrate the quantum nonlocality (the non-$n$-locality). Such a network scenario involves $n$ number of independent sources and $n+1$ parties, two edge parties (Alice and Charlie), and $n-1$ central parties (Bobs). It is commonly assumed that each party receives only two inputs. In this work, we consider a generalized scenario where the edge parties rec…
The proofs of quantum nonlocality due to GHZ and Hardy are quantitatively different from that of Bell insofar as they rely only on a consideration of whether events are possible or impossible, rather than relying on specific experimental probabilities. Here, we consider the computational task of determining whether or not a given table of possibilities constitutes a departure from possibilistic local realism. By considering the case in which one party has access to measurements with two outcomes and the other three, it is possible to see at exactly which point this task becomes computationally…
We investigate the violation of local realism in Bell tests involving homodyne measurements performed on multimode continuous-variable states. By binning the measurement outcomes in an appropriate way, we prove that the Mermin-Klyshko inequality can be violated by an amount that grows exponentially with the number of modes. Furthermore, the maximum violation allowed by quantum mechanics can be attained for any number of modes, albeit requiring a quantum state that is rather unrealistic. Interestingly, this exponential increase of the violation holds true even for simpler states, such as multip…
We show how to detect entanglement with criteria built from simple two-body correlation terms. Since many natural Hamiltonians are sums of such correlation terms, our ideas can be used to detect entanglement by energy measurement. Our criteria can straightforwardly be applied for detecting different forms of multipartite entanglement in familiar spin models in thermal equilibrium.
We present a detailed study on the possibility of manipulating quantum information encoded in the "radial" modes of arrays of trapped ions (i.e., in the ions' oscillations orthogonal to the trap's main axis). In such systems, because of the tightness of transverse confinement, the radial modes pertaining to different ions can be addressed individually. In the first part of the paper we show that, if local control of the radial trapping frequencies is available, any linear optical and squeezing operation on the locally defined modes - on single as well as on many modes - can be reproduced by ma…
The characterization of quantum coherence in the context of quantum information theory and its interplay with quantum correlations is currently subject of intense study. Coherence in an Hamiltonian eigenbasis yields asymmetry, the ability of a quantum system to break a dynamical symmetry generated by the Hamiltonian. We here propose an experimental strategy to witness multipartite entanglement in many-body systems by evaluating the asymmetry with respect to an additive Hamiltonian. We test our scheme by simulating asymmetry and entanglement detection in a three-qubit GHZ-diagonal state.
Local measurements on bipartite maximally entangled states can yield correlations that are maximally nonlocal, monogamous, and associated to fully random outcomes. This makes these states ideal for bipartite cryptographic tasks. Genuine-multipartite nonlocality constitutes a stronger notion of nonlocality that appears in the multipartite case. Maximal genuine-multipartite nonlocality, monogamy and full random outcomes are thus highly desired properties for multipartite correlations in intrinsically genuine-multipartite cryptographic scenarios. We prove that local measurements on Greenberger-Ho…
The assumption of measurement independence is required for a local deterministic model to conduct a Bell test. The violation of a Bell inequality by such a model implies that this assumption must be relaxed. The degree to which the assumption needs to be relaxed to achieve violation of some bipartite Bell inequalities, has been investigated recently in [Phys. Rev. Lett. 105, 250404(2010), Phys. Rev. A 99, 012121(2019)]. In this work, we study the minimum degree of relaxation required to simulate violations of various well-known tripartite Bell inequalities and opens the possibility of relaxati…
A family of Bell-type inequalities is present, which are constructed directly from the "standard" Bell inequalities involving two dichotomic observables per site. It is shown that the inequalities are violated by all the generalized Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger states of multiqubits. Remarkably, our new inequalities can provide stronger non-locality tests in a sense that the local reality inequalities are exponentially stronger than the corresponding multipartite separability inequalities. This reveals that the exponential violation of local realism by separable states is an interesting consequ…
We introduce a general framework for detecting genuine multipartite entanglement and non full-separability in multipartite quantum systems of arbitrary dimensions based on correlation tensors. Regarding genuine multipartite entanglement our conditions are comparable to previous approaches in the case of qubits while they show particular strength in the relatively unexplored case of higher dimensional systems. In the case of non-full separability our conditions prove to be advantageous in situations where more than two-body correlations are relevant, where most previous conditions turned out to…
