We use the auxiliary fields and (excited-) de Sitter solutions to study the standard power spectrum of primordial fluctuations of a scalar field in the early universe. The auxiliary fields are the negative norm solutions of the field equation and as it is shown, with a fixed boundary condition, utilizing these states results in a finite power spectrum without any infinity. The power spectrum is determined by the de Sitter solutions up to some corrections and the space-time symmetry is not broken in this point of view. The modulation to the power spectrum is of order $ (\frac{H}Λ)^{2} $, where $ H $ is the Hubble parameter and $ Λ$ is the energy scale, e.g., Planck scale.
We obtain a scale-invariant spectrum from the Lee-Wick model in de Sitter spacetime. This model is a fourth-order scalar theory whose mass parameter is determined by $M^2=2H^2$. The Harrison-Zel'dovich scale-invariant spectrum is obtained by Fourier transforming the propagator in position space as well as by computing the power spectrum directly. It shows clearly that the LW scalar theory provides a truly scale-invariant spectrum in whole de Sitter, while the massless scalar propagation in de Sitter shows a scale-invariant spectrum in the superhorizon region only.
Following the monodromy technique performed by Motl and Neitzke, we consider the analytic determination of the highly damped (asymptotic) quasi-normal modes of small Schwarzschild-de Sitter (SdS) black holes. We comment the result as compared to the recent numerical data of Konoplya and Zhidenko.
We study the Maxwell quasinormal spectrum on asymptotically anti-de Sitter black holes with a set of two Robin type boundary conditions, by requiring the energy flux to vanish at asymptotic infinity. Focusing, for illustrative purposes, on Schwarzschild-anti-de Sitter black holes both without and with a global monopole, we unveil that, on the one hand, the Maxwell quasinormal spectrum bifurcates as the black hole radius increases for both boundary conditions, which is termed the mode split effect; while on the other hand, with an appropriate fixed black hole radius but increasing the monopole …
The entropy spectrum of a spherically symmetric black hole was derived without the quasinormal modes in the work of Majhi and Vagenas. Extending this work to rotating black holes, we quantize the entropy and the horizon area of a Kerr anti-de Sitter black hole by two methods. The spectra of entropy and area are obtained via the Bohr-Sommerfeld quantization rule and the adiabatic invariance in the first way. By addressing the wave function of emitted (absorbed) particles, the entropy and the area are quantized in the second one. Both results show that the entropy and the area spectra are equall…
We discuss the spectrum of the tensor metric perturbations and the stability of warped compactifications with the de Sitter spacetime in the higher-dimensional gravity. The spacetime structure is given in terms of the warped product of the non-compact direction, the spherical internal dimensions and the four-dimensional de Sitter spacetime. To realize a finite bulk volume, we construct the brane world model, using the cut-copy-paste method. Then, we compactify the spherical directions on the brane. In any case, we show the existence of the massless zero mode and the mass gap of it with massive…
Motivated by recent physical interpretation on quasinormal modes presented by Maggiore, the adiabatic quantity method given by Kunstatter is used to calculate the spectrums of a non-extremal Schwarzschild de Sitter black hole in this paper, as well as electrically charged case. According to highly damped Konoplya and Zhidenko's numerical observational results for high overtone modes\cite{Konoplya}, we found that the asymptotic non-flat spacetime structure leads two interesting facts as followings: (i) near inner event horizon, the area and entropy spectrums, which are given by $A_{en} = 8 n_1 …
The two-point function for tensor metric perturbations around de Sitter spacetime including one-loop corrections from massless conformally coupled scalar fields is calculated exactly. We work in the Poincaré patch (with spatially flat sections) and employ dimensional regularization for the renormalization process. Unlike previous studies we obtain the result for arbitrary time separations rather than just equal times. Moreover, in contrast to existing results for tensor perturbations, ours is manifestly invariant with respect to the subgroup of de Sitter isometries corresponding to a simultane…
Using the quasi-normal modes frequency of near extremal Schwarzschild-de Sitter black holes, we obtain area and entropy spectrum for black hole horizon. By using Boher-Sommerfeld quantization for an adiabatic invariant $I=\int {dE\over ω(E)}$, which $E$ is the energy of system and $ω(E)$ is vibrational frequency, we leads to an equally spaced mass spectrum. In the other term we extend directly the Kunstatter's approach [7] to determine mass and entropy spectrum of near extremal Schwarzschild-de Sitter black holes which is asymptotically de Sitter rather than asymptotically flat.
The generalized connections of the (anti)-de Sitter space symmetry algebra, which are differential forms of arbitrary degree with values in any irreducible (spin)-tensor representation of the (anti)-de Sitter algebra, are studied. It is shown that arbitrary-spin gauge field in (anti)-de Sitter space, massless or partially-massless, can be described by a single connection. A 'one-to-one' correspondence between the connections of the (anti)-de Sitter algebra and the gauge fields is established. The gauge symmetry is manifest and auxiliary fields are automatically included in the formalism.
We argue that the Schwarzschild-de Sitter black hole entropy formula does not imply that the entanglement spectrum of the vacuum density matrix of de Sitter space is flat. Specifically, we show that the expectation value of a random projection operator of dimension $d\gg 1$, on a Hilbert space of dimension $D\gg d$ and in a density matrix $ρ= e^{-K}$ with strictly positive spectrum, is $\frac{d}{D}\left(1 + o(\frac{1}{\sqrt{d}})\right)$, independent of the spectrum of the density matrix. In addition, for a suitable class of spectra the asymptotic estimates ${\rm Tr} (ρK) \sim {\rm ln}\ D - o(1…
The quantization of the massless minimally coupled (mmc) scalar field in de Sitter spacetime is known to be a non-trivial problem due to the appearance of strong infrared (IR) effects. In particular, the scale-invariance of the CMB power-spectrum - certainly one of the most successful predictions of modern cosmology - is widely believed to be inconsistent with a de Sitter invariant mmc two-point function. Using a Cesaro-summability technique to properly define an otherwise divergent Fourier transform, we show in this Letter that de Sitter symmetry breaking is \emph{not} a necessary consequence…
We demonstrate that for general conformal field theories (CFTs), the entanglement for small perturbations of the vacuum is organized in a novel holographic way. For spherical entangling regions in a constant time slice, perturbations in the entanglement entropy are solutions of a Klein-Gordon equation in an auxiliary de Sitter (dS) spacetime. The role of the emergent time-like direction in dS is played by the size of the entangling sphere. For CFTs with extra conserved charges, e.g., higher spin charges, we show that each charge gives rise to a separate dynamical scalar field in dS.
We observe that the equation of motion for a free scalar field in a closed universe with radiation and a positive cosmological constant is given by Lamé's equation. Computing the exact power spectrum of scalar field perturbations, the presence of both curvature and radiation produces a red tilt weakly dependent on the amount of radiation.
We find that the amplitude of quantum fluctuations of the invariant de Sitter vacuum coincides exactly with that of the vacuum of a comoving observer for a massless scalar (inflaton) field. We propose redefining the actual physical power spectrum as the difference between the amplitudes of the above vacua. An inertial particle detector continues to observe the Gibbons-Hawking temperature. However, although the resulting power spectrum is still scale-free, its amplitude can be drastically reduced since now, instead of the Hubble's scale at the inflationary period, it is determined by the square…
We propose a new scenario for early cosmology, where inflationary de Sitter phase dynamically occurs. The effect emerges as a result of dynamics of the topologically nontrivial sectors in expanding universe. Technically the effect can be described in terms of the auxiliary fields which effectively describe the dynamics of the topological sectors in a gauge theory. Inflaton in this framework is an auxiliary topological non-propagating field with no canonical kinetic term, similar to known topologically ordered phases in condensed matter systems. We explain many deep questions in this framework …
We study the power - and bi -spectrum of vacuum fluctuations in a hyperbolic section of de Sitter space, comparing two states of physical interest: the Bunch-Davies and hyperbolic vacuum. We introduce a one -parameter family of de Sitter hyperbolic sections and their natural vacua, and identify a limit in which it reduces to the planar section and the corresponding Bunch -Davies vacuum state. Selecting the Bunch -Davies vacuum for a massless scalar field implies a mixed reduced density matrix in a hyperbolic section of de Sitter space. We stress that in the Bunch -Davies state the hyperbolic d…
We analyze the spectrum of time observable in noncommutative cosmological model introduced in [5], defined by $(ρ, s=\frac 12)\,$ representation of the de Sitter group. We find that time has peculiar property: it is not self-adjoint, but appropriate restrictions to the space of physical states give self-adjoint extensions. Extensions have discrete spectrum with logarithmic distribution of eigenvalues, $\,t_n \sim \ell\, \log\, n$+const, where $\ell$ characterizes noncommutativity and the usual assumption is $\,\ell=\ell_{Planck}$. When calculated on physical states, radius of the universe is b…
We perform string quantization in anti de Sitter (AdS) spacetime. The string motion is stable, oscillatory in time with real frequencies $ω_n= \sqrt{n^2+m^2α'^2H^2}$ and the string size and energy are bounded. The string fluctuations around the center of mass are well behaved. We find the mass formula which is also well behaved in all regimes. There is an {\it infinite} number of states with arbitrarily high mass in AdS (in de Sitter (dS) there is a {\it finite} number of states only). The critical dimension at which the graviton appears is $D=25,$ as in de Sitter space. A cosmological constan…
We obtain scale-invariant scalar and tensor power spectra from a Weyl-invariant scalar-tensor theory in de Sitter spacetime. This implies that the Weyl-invariance guarantees to implement the scale-invariance of power spectrum in de Sitter spacetime. We establish a deep connection between the Weyl-invariance of the action and scale-invariance of power spectrum in de Sitter spacetime.
We discuss the boundary effect of anomaly-induced action in two-dimensional spacetime, which is ignored in previous studies. Anomaly-induced action, which gives the stress tensor with the same trace as the trace anomaly, can be represented in terms of local operators by introducing an auxiliary scalar field. Although the degrees of freedom of the auxiliary field can in principle describe the quantum states of the original field, the principal relation between them was unclear. We show here that, by considering the boundary effect, the solutions of classical auxiliary fields are naturally relat…
We study the phase and amplitude dynamics of small perturbations in 3+1 dimensional Anti-de Sitter spacetime using the truncated resonant approximation, also known as the Two Time Framework (TTF). We analyse the phase spectrum for different classes of initial data and find that higher frequency modes turn on with coherently aligned phases. Combining numerical and analytical results, we conjecture that there is a class of initial conditions that collapse in infinite slow time and to which the well-studied case of the two-mode, equal energy initial data belongs. We additionally study perturbatio…
We consider light scalar fields during inflation and show how the stochastic spectral expansion method can be used to calculate two-point correlation functions of an arbitrary local function of the field in de Sitter space. In particular, we use this approach for a massive scalar field with quartic self-interactions to calculate the fluctuation spectrum of the density contrast and compare it to other approximations. We find that neither Gaussian nor linear approximations accurately reproduce the power spectrum, and in fact always overestimate it. For example, for a scalar field with only a qua…
An exactly scale-invariant spectrum of scalar perturbation generated during de Sitter spacetime is found from the gravity model of the nonminimal derivative coupling with fourth-order term. The nonminimal derivative coupling term generates a healthy (ghost-free) fourth-order derivative term, while the fourth-order term provides an unhealthy (ghost) fourth-order derivative term. The Harrison-Zel'dovich spectrum obtained from Fourier transforming the fourth-order propagator in de Sitter space is recovered by computing the power spectrum in its momentum space directly. It shows that this model pr…
Since trans-Planckian considerations can be associated with the re-definition of the initial vacuum, we investigate further the influence of trans-Planckian physics on the spectra produced by the initial quasi-de Sitter (dS) state during inflation. We use the asymptotic-dS mode to study the trans-Planckian correction of the power spectrum to the quasi-dS inflation. The obtained spectra consist of higher order corrections associated with the type of geometry and harmonic terms sensitive to the fluctuations of space-time (or gravitational waves) during inflation. As an important result, the ampl…
In the framework of open quantum systems, we study the internal dynamics of both freely falling and static two-level atoms interacting with quantized conformally coupled massless scalar field in de Sitter spacetime. We find that the atomic transition rates depend on both the nature of de Sitter spacetime and the motion of atoms, interestingly the steady states for both cases are always driven to being purely thermal, regardless of the atomic initial states. This thermalization phenomenon is structurally similar to what happens to an elementary quantum system immersed in a thermal field, and th…
Motivated by holographic models of (pseudo)conformal Universe, we carry out complete analysis of linearized metric perturbations in the time-dependent two-brane setup of the Lykken-Randall type. We present the equations of motion for the scalar, vector and tensor perturbations and identify light modes in the spectrum, which are scalar radion and transverse-traceless graviton. We show that there are no other modes in the discrete part of the spectrum. We pay special attention to properties of light modes and show, in particular, that the radion has red power spectrum at late times, as anticipat…
We show that the spectrum of conical defects in three-dimensional de Sitter space is in one-to-one correspondence with the spectrum of vertex operators in Liouville conformal field theory. The classical conformal dimensions of vertex operators are equal to the masses of the classical point particles in dS_3 that cause the conical defect. The quantum dimensions instead are shown to coincide with the mass of the Kerr-dS_3 solution computed with the Brown-York stress tensor. Therefore classical de Sitter gravity encodes the quantum properties of Liouville theory. The equality of the gravitational…
This is the second in a series of papers investigating the formulation of the simplified Dark Matter models with graviton mediators in cosmological backgrounds. We address here the crucial problem of the fundamental observable of interest, namely the graviton spectrum in a FRW cosmological background with an arbitrary Dark Matter background component. We calculate the correction to the free graviton two-point function up to the second order in the coupling constant between the Dark Matter and the graviton in the simplified Dark Matter model with graviton mediators approach in the de Sitter spa…
In this work we derive a general expression for the greybody factor of non-minimally coupled scalar fields in Reissner-Nordström-de Sitter spacetime in low frequency approximation. In particular case of zero momentum, greybody factor tends to zero in low frequency limit as frequency squared goes to zero for non-vanishing coupling. We also elaborate the significance of the results by giving formulae of differential energy rate and general absorption cross section. The greybody factor gives insight into the spectrum of Hawking radiations.
We study details of geometry of noncommutative de Sitter space: we determine the Riemann and Ricci curvature tensors, the energy and the Laplacian. We find, in particular, that fuzzy de Sitter space is an Einstein space, $R_{ab}=-3ζ\,η_{ab}$. The Laplacian, defined in the noncommutative frame formalism, is not hermitian and gives nonunitary evolution. When symmetrically ordered, it has the usual quadratic form $Δ=Π_aΠ^a$ (when acting on functions in representation space, $Ψ\in {\cal H}$): we find its eigenstates and discuss its spectrum. This result is a first step in a study of the scalar fie…
We study the Einstein-singleton theory during de Sitter inflation since it provides a way of degenerate fourth-order scalar theory. We obtain an exact solution expressed in terms of the exponential-integral function by solving the degenerate fourth-order scalar equation in de Sitter spacetime. Furthermore, we find that its power spectrum blows negatively up in the superhorizon limit, while it is negatively scale-invariant in the subhorizon limit. This suggests that the Einstein-singleton theory contains the ghost-instability and thus, it is not suitable for developing a slow-roll inflation mod…
We show, in complete accord with the usual Rindler picture, that detectors with constant acceleration $a$ in de Sitter (dS) and Anti de Sitter (AdS) spaces with cosmological constants $Λ$ measure temperatures $2πT=(Λ/3+a^{2})^{1/2}\equiv a_{5}$, the detector "5-acceleration" in the embedding flat 5-space. For dS, this recovers a known result; in AdS, where $Λ$ is negative, the temperature is well defined down to the critical value $a_{5}=0$, again in accord with the underlying kinematics. The existence of a thermal spectrum is also demonstrated for a variety of candidate wave functions in AdS …
We find the high overtones of gravitational and electromagnetic quasinormal spectrum of the Schwarzschild-de Sitter black hole. The calculations show that the real parts of the electromagnetic modes asymptotically approach zero. The gravitational modes show more peculiar behavior at large $n$: the real part oscillates as a function of imaginary even for very high overtones and these oscillations settles to some "profile" which just repeats itself with further increasing of the overtone number $n$. This lets us judge that $Re ω$ is not a constant as $n \to \infty$ but rather some oscillating fu…
The effect of string and quantum gravity inspired minimum-length deformed quantization on a free, massless scalar field is studied on de Sitter background at the level of second quantization. Analytic solution of a field operator is obtained to the first order in deformation parameter. Using this solution we then estimate the two point and four point correlation functions (with respect to the Bunch-Davies vacuum). The field operator shows up a non-linear dependence on creation and annihilation operators, therefore the perturbation spectrum proves to be non-Gaussian. The correction to the power…
We discuss several aspects of quantum field theory of a scalar field in a Friedmann universe, clarifying and highlighting several conceptual and technical issues. (A) We show that one can map the dynamics of (1) a massless scalar field in a universe with power law expansion to (2) a massive scalar field in the de Sitter spacetime, which allows us to understand several features of either system and clarifies several issues related to the massless limit. (B) We obtain a useful integral representation for the Euclidean Green's function for the de Sitter spacetime, by relating it to the solution o…
I consider an extension of General Relativity by an auxiliary non-dynamical dimension that enables our space-time to acquire an extrinsic curvature. Obtained gravitational equations, without or with a cosmological constant, have a selfaccelerated solution that is independent of the value of the cosmological constant, and can describe the cosmic speedup of the Universe as a geometric effect. Background evolution of the selfaccelerated solution is identical to that of ordinary de Sitter space. I show that linear perturbations on this solution describe either a massless graviton, or a massive gra…
Perturbations of the Dirac field in the Schwarzschild spacetime are characterized by two wave equations (for two chiralities) with effective potentials which are iso-spectral and one of which is positive definite. Therefore, the stability of a Dirac field in the Schwarzschild background is straightforward. This is not so for the Schwarzschild-de Sitter case, because potentials for both chiralities have negative gaps and the fact that the stability is not automatically guaranteed in the asymptotically de Sitter case was apparently omitted in the literature. Performing the time-domain integratio…
It is possible to associate temperatures with the non-extremal horizons of a large class of spherically symmetric spacetimes using periodicity in the Euclidean sector and this procedure works for the de Sitter spacetime as well. But, unlike e.g., the black hole spacetimes, the de Sitter spacetime also allows a description in Friedmann coordinates. This raises the question of whether the thermality of the de Sitter horizon can be obtained, working entirely in the Friedmann coordinates, without reference to the static coordinates or using the symmetries of de Sitter spacetime. We discuss several…

We quantize a string in the de Sitter background, and we find that the mass spectrum is modified by a term which is quadratic in oscillating numbers, and also proportional to the square of the Hubble constant.
We study cosmological tensor perturbations generated during de Sitter inflation in the conformal gravity with mass parameter $m^2=2H^2$. It turns out that tensor power spectrum is scale-invariant.
We compute the spectrum of primordial gravitational wave perturbations in open de Sitter spacetime. The background spacetime is taken to be the continuation of an O(5) symmetric instanton saddle point of the Euclidean no boundary path integral. The two-point tensor fluctuations are computed directly from the Euclidean path integral. The Euclidean correlator is then analytically continued into the Lorentzian region where it describes the quantum mechanical vacuum fluctuations of the graviton field. Unlike the results of earlier work, the correlator is shown to be unique and well behaved in the …
Motivated by the recent work about a new physical interpretation of quasinormal modes by Maggiore, we investigate the quantization of near-extremal Schwarzschild-de Sitter black holes in the four dimensional spacetime. Following Kunstatter's method, we derive the area and entropy spectrum of near-extremal Schwarzschild-de Sitter black holes which differs from Setare's result. Furthermore, we find that the derived a universal area spectrum is $2πn$ which is equally spaced.
We investigate the propagation of arbitrarily coupled scalar fields on the $N$-dimensional hyperbolic space ${\mathbb H}^N$. Using the $ζ$-function regularization we compute exactly the one loop effective action. The vacuum expectation value of quadratic field fluctuations and the one loop renormalized stress tensor are then computed using the recently proposed direct $ζ$-function technique. Our computation tests the validity of this approach in presence of a continuous spectrum. Our results apply as well to the $N$-dimensional anti-de Sitter spacetime, whose appropriate euclidean section is t…
The correlation functions of two or more Euclidean Wilson loops of various shapes in Euclidean anti-de Sitter space are computed by considering the minimal area surfaces connecting the loops. The surfaces are parametrized by Riemann theta functions associated with genus three hyperelliptic Riemann surfaces. In the case of two loops, the distance $L$ by which they are separated can be adjusted by continuously varying a specific branch point of the auxiliary Riemann surface. When $L$ is much larger than the characteristic size of the loops, then the loops are approximately regarded as local oper…
We calculate quantum fluctuations of a free scalar field in the Schwarzschild-de Sitter space-time, adopting the planar coordinates that is pertinent to the presence of a black hole in an inflationary universe. In a perturbation approach, doing expansion in powers of a small black hole event horizon compared to the de Sitter cosmological horizon, we obtain time evolution of the quantum fluctuations and then derive the scalar power spectrum.
The quantization of a scalar field in anti de Sitter spacetime using Poincaré coordinates is considered. We find a discrete spectrum that is consistent with a possible mapping between bulk and boundary quantum states.
Recently, two groups have made distinct proposals for a de Sitter space that is emergent from conformal field theory (CFT). The first proposal is that, for two-dimensional holographic CFTs, the kinematic space of geodesics on a spacelike slice of the asymptotically anti-de Sitter bulk is two-dimensional de Sitter space (dS$_2$), with a metric that can be derived from the entanglement entropy of intervals in the CFT. In the second proposal, de Sitter dynamics emerges naturally from the first law of entanglement entropy for perturbations around the vacuum state of CFTs. We provide support for th…
Recent Planck results motivated us to use non-Bunch-Davies vacuum. In this paper, we use the excited-de Sitter mode as non-linear initial states during inflation to calculate the corrected spectra of the initial fluctuations of the scalar field. First, we consider the field in de Sitter space-time as background field and for the non-Bunch-Davies mode, we use the perturbation theory to the second order approximation. Also, unlike conventional renormalization method, we offer de Sitter space-time as the background instead Minkowski space-time. This approach preserve the symmetry of curved space-…
We study semiclassical spiky strings in de Sitter space and the corresponding Regge trajectories, generalizing the analysis in anti-de Sitter space. In particular we demonstrate that each Regge trajectory has a maximum spin due to de Sitter acceleration, similarly to the folded string studied earlier. While this property is useful for the spectrum to satisfy the Higuchi bound, it makes a nontrivial question how to maintain mildness of high-energy string scattering which we are familiar with in flat space and anti-de Sitter space. Our analysis implies that in order to have infinitely many highe…
This paper explores the use of a deformation by a root of unity as a tool to build models with a finite number of states for applications to quantum gravity. The initial motivation for this work was cosmological breaking of supersymmetry. We explain why the project was unsuccessful. What is left are some observations on supersymmetry for q-bosons, an analogy between black holes in de Sitter and properties of quantum groups, and an observation on a noncommutative quantum mechanics model with two degrees of freedom, depending on one parameter. When this parameter is positive, the spectrum has a …
