The problem of quark-lepton families is discussed in the "bottom-up" phenomenological approach to the extensions of the Standard model. It provides the possibility of the {\it Horizontal unification} of the three known families on the basis of horizontal gauge flavor $SU(3)_H$ symmetry. The new generations of quarks and leptons can exist. If unstable and mixed with light fermions, they should contribute the CKM matrix. If stable and decoupled from known families, new generations can provide new candidates for dark matter.
Quark-lepton symmetric models are a class of gauge theories motivated by the similarities between the quarks and leptons. In these models the gauge group of the standard model is extended to include a ``color'' group for the leptons. Consequently, the quarks and leptons can then be related by a $Z_2$ discrete quark-lepton symmetry which is spontaneously broken by the vacuum. Models utilizing quark-lepton symmetry with acceptable and interesting collider phenomenology have been constructed. The cosmological consequences of these models are also discussed.

A compsite model of quarks and leptons is proposed. The quarks and leptons are given by three body states which are composed of constituents $(w_1, w_2, c_1, c_2, c_3)$ of SU(5)$_{flavor}$ and $(f_1, f_2, f_3)$ of SU(3)$_{family}$
We propose a quark-lepton model via leptoquarks and modular $A_4$ symmetry. Since the neutrino mass is induced at one-loop level mediated by down quarks as well as leptoquarks, we have to explain lepton and quark masses and mixings with a single modulus $τ$. Here, we find predictions for lepton and quark sectors with unified modulus $τ$, and show several constraints originating from leptoquarks.
We study charged lepton flavor violation (CLFV) associated with heavy quark pair production in lepton-nucleon deep-inelastic scattering $\ell_i N \to \ell_j q\bar{q} X$. Here $\ell_i$ and $\ell_j$ denote the initial and final leptons; $N$ and $X$ are respectively the initial nucleon and arbitrary final hadronic system. We employ a model Lagrangian in which a scalar and pseudoscalar mediator generates the CLFV. We derive heavy quark structure functions for scalar and pseudoscalar currents and compute momentum distributions of the final lepton for the process. Our focus is on the heavy quark mas…
We have studied the lepton and quark mixing patterns which can be derived from the dihedral group $D_n$ in combination with CP symmetry. The left-handed lepton and quark doublets are assigned to the direct sum of a singlet and a doublet of $D_n$. A unified description of the observed structure of the quark and lepton mixing can be achieved if the flavor group $D_n$ and CP are broken to $Z_2\times CP$ in neutrino, charged lepton, up quark and down quark sectors, and the minimal group is $D_{14}$. We also consider another scenario in which the residual symmetry of the charged lepton and up quark…
A flavor structure with minimal parameters is proposed to address the fermion mass hierarchy and flavor mixing for quarks and leptons. Yukawa interaction is reconstructed in a new basis to show a homological flat structure for up-type quarks, down-type quarks, charged leptons and Dirac neutrinos. A $SO(2)_{LR}^f$ flavor symmetry is found from the hierarchy masses of quarks and leptons, which dominated CKM mixing for quarks and PMNS for leptons. Since the minimal flavor structure successfully addresses CKM and PMNS even in the mass hierarchy limit, mass hierarchy and flavor mixing are two indep…
Instead of right-handed neutrino singlets, the standard model is extended to include lepton triplets $(Σ^+, Σ^0, Σ^-)$. Each quark and lepton family may now transform under an anomaly-free $U(1)_X$ gauge symmetry, known already for many years. A new sequential application is presented, using just the one Higgs doublet of the standard model, together with two $U(1)_X$ Higgs singlets. The resulting structure has hierarchical quark and lepton masses, as well as a viable seesaw neutrino mass matrix.
We perform a systematical analysis of the $A_4$ modular models with generalized CP for the masses and flavor mixing of quarks and leptons, and the most general form of the quark and lepton mass matrices is given. The CP invariance requires all couplings real in the chosen basis and thus the vacuum expectation value of the modulus $τ$ uniquely breaks both the modular symmetry and CP symmetry. The phenomenologically viable models with minimal number of free parameters and the results of fit are presented. We find 20 models with 7 real free parameters that can accommodate the experimental data of…
