Let $G$ be a connected reductive algebraic group and $B$ be a Borel subgroup defined over an algebraically closed field of characteristic $p>0$. In this paper, the authors study the existence of generic $G$-cohomology and its stability with rational $G$-cohomology groups via the use of methods from the authors' earlier work. New results on the vanishing of $G$ and $B$-cohomology groups are presented. Furthermore, vanishing ranges for the associated finite group cohomology of $G({\mathbb F}_{q})$ are established which generalizes earlier work of Hiller, in addition to stability ranges for generic cohomology which improves on seminal work of Cline, Parshall, Scott and van der Kallen.
We compute the number of rational points of classifying stacks of Chevalley group schemes using the Lefschetz-Grothendieck trace formula of Behrend for $\ell$-adic cohomology of algebraic stacks. From this we also derive associated zeta functions for these classifying stacks.
Let G be the simple, simply connected algebraic group SL_3 defined over an algebraically closed field K of characteristic p>0. In this paper, we find H^2(G,V) for any irreducible G-module V. When p>7 we also find H^2(G(q),V) for any irreducible G(q)-module V for the finite Chevalley groups G(q)=SL(3,q) where q is a power of p.
It is known that Hochschild cohomology groups are represented by crossed extensions of associative algebras. In this paper, we introduce crossed $n$-fold extensions of a Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$ by a module $M$, for $n \geq 2$. The equivalence classes of such extensions are represented by the $(n+1)$-th Chevalley-Eilenberg cohomology group $H^{n+1}_{CE} (\mathfrak{g}, M).$
In 2011, Guralnick and Tiep proved that if $G$ was a Chevalley group with Borel subgroup $B$ and $V$ an irreducible $G$-module in cross characteristic with $V^B = 0$, then the the dimension of $H^1(G,V)$ is determined by the structure of the permutation module on the cosets of $B$. We generalise this theorem to higher cohomology and an arbitrary finite group, so that if $H \leq G$ such that $O_{r'}(H) = O^r(H)$ and $V^H = 0$ for $V$ a $G$-module in characteristic $r$ then $\dim H^1(G,V)$ is determined by the structure of the permutation module on cosets of $H$, and $H^n(G,V)$ by $\text{Ext}_G^…
This paper is an extended version of four lectures at PIMS in Vancouver given June 27 - 30, 2016. The primary goal of these lectures was to publicize the author's recent efforts to extend to representations of linear algebraic groups the "theory of support varieties" which has proved successful in the study of representations of finite group schemes. The lectures offer readers an introduction to the subject together with "homework problems, simplify and clarify some points in the literature, and mention some directions for future research.
Bredon cohomology is a cohomology theory that applies to topological spaces equipped with the group actions. For any group G, given a real linear representation V , the configuration space of V has a natural diagonal G-action. In the paper we study this group action on the configuration space and give a decomposition of the homology Bredon coefficient system of the configuration space and apply this to compute rational Bredon cohomology of the configuration space for small nonabelian group G.
