In the ``non-decoupling'' region of the Higgs sector in MSSM, the heavier CP-even Higgs boson (H^0) is Standard-Model-like and close to the charged Higgs bosons (H^\pm) in mass, while other neutral Higgs bosons (h^0,A^0) are lighter and near the Z mass. This scenario is consistent with the current Higgs search limits, although the improved sensitivity for a light charged Higgs boson search t -> H^+ b may result in certain degree of tension. We demonstrate that it can pass the stringent flavor constraints, provided there are other light SUSY particles to contribute in the loop induced processes. In turn, the non-decoupling Higgs sector implies the existence of light (left-handed) stop, sbottom and Wino-like gauginos, with mass all below 250 GeV. These light super-partners can still escape the current SUSY searches at the LHC. Dedicated searches for soft decay products should be devised for the LHC experiments to improve the searching sensitivity. The ILC would be able to cover the full spectrum region. The solutions for the viable SUSY parameters result from subtle cancellations and are often missed by the generic multiple dimensional scans, highlighting the importance of theoretical guidance in search for such special cases.
The parameter space of the Constrained Minimal supersymmetric Standard Model is considered. It is shown that for the particular choice of parameters there are some regions where long-living charged superparticles exist. Two regions of interest are the co-annihilation region with light staus, and the region with large negative trilinear scalar coupling A distinguished by light stops. The phenomenology of long-living superparticles is briefly discussed.
We present several advances in the effective field theory calculation of the Higgs mass in MSSM scenarios with heavy superparticles. In particular, we compute the dominant two-loop threshold corrections to the quartic Higgs coupling for generic values of the relevant SUSY-breaking parameters, including all contributions controlled by the strong gauge coupling and by the third-family Yukawa couplings. We also study the effects of a representative subset of dimension-six operators in the effective theory valid below the SUSY scale. Our results will allow for an improved determination of the Higg…
We improve the determination of the Higgs-boson mass in the MSSM with heavy superpartners, by computing the two-loop threshold corrections to the quartic Higgs coupling that involve both the strong and the electroweak gauge couplings. Combined with earlier results, this completes the calculation of the two-loop QCD corrections to the quartic coupling at the SUSY scale. We also compare different computations of the relation between the quartic coupling and the pole mass of the Higgs boson at the EW scale. We find that the numerical impact of the new corrections on the prediction for the Higgs m…
We present a qualitatively new approach to discover Higgs bosons of the MSSM at the LHC using jet substructure techniques applied to boosted Higgs decays. These techniques are ideally suited to the MSSM, since the lightest Higgs boson overwhelmingly decays to $b\bar{b}$ throughout the entire parameter space, while the heavier neutral Higgs bosons, if light enough to be produced in a cascade, also predominantly decay to $b\bar{b}$. The Higgs production we consider arises from superpartner production where superpartners cascade decay into Higgs bosons. We study this mode of Higgs production for …
In the MSSM extended by a complete vectorlike family, precise top, bottom and tau Yukawa coupling unification can be achieved assuming SUSY threshold corrections which are typical for comparable superpartner masses. Furthermore, the unification is possible with a large unified coupling, implying that all three fermion masses can be simultaneously close to their IR fixed points. Assuming unified Yukawa couplings of order one or larger, the preferred common scale of new physics (superpartners and vectorlike matter) is in the 3 TeV to 30 TeV range, with larger couplings favoring smaller scales. S…
We construct an extension of the MSSM in which scalar superpartners can naturally be as heavy as 1 TeV. In the MSSM, the most significant fine tuning stems from the logarithmically enhanced top-stop loop contribution to the soft Higgs mass. We combine supersymmetry with the "simplest little Higgs" to render this loop finite, thereby removing the large logarithm even in models in which superpartner masses are generated at high scales such as in supergravity. Our model predicts an extended Higgs sector, superpartner masses near a TeV and little Higgs partners at a few TeV.
We use the IR fixed point predictions for gauge couplings and the top Yukawa coupling in the MSSM extended with vectorlike families to infer the scale of vectorlike matter and superpartners. We quote results for several extensions of the MSSM and present results in detail for the MSSM extended with one complete vectorlike family. We find that for a unified gauge coupling $α_G > 0.3$ vectorlike matter or superpartners are expected within 1.7 TeV (2.5 TeV) based on all three gauge couplings being simultaneously within 1.5\% (5\%) from observed values. This range extends to about 4 TeV for $α_G >…
In the Minimal Supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model or MSSM, the lighter Higgs boson has a rather large mass, $M_h\approx 125$ GeV. Together with the non-observation of superpartners at the LHC, this suggests that the SUSY-breaking scale is rather high, $M_S > 1$ TeV. This implies a dramatic simplification of the MSSM Higgs sector that is summarised here.
In these proceedings we review two aspects of 2HDMs with generic Yukawa structures. The first part considers how recent deviations from the SM expectations in tauonic B decays (observed by BABAR) can be explained in a 2HDM of type III with sizable flavour violation in the up-sector. The second part discusses the matching of the MSSM on the 2HDM of type III. Here we focus on the recently calculated two-loop SQCD corrections to the Higgs-quark-quark couplings.
We consider the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) without imposing relations on the superpartner masses that arise in grand unified theories. Given an arbitrary pattern of superpartner masses (consistent with experimental constraints), it may happen that the scalar potential is actually unstable, even though all scalar masses-squared are positive at the weak scale $M_W$. This is most likely to happen if the running mass-squared in a ``flat'' direction in field space becomes negative at some scale $Q_0$ which is well below the GUT scale. In this case, either this pattern of masses is…
We consider the Higgs boson signals from pair production at the LHC within the framework of the MSSM in the non-decoupling (low-m_A) region. In light of the recent observation of a SM-like Higgs boson, we argue that the exploration for Higgs pair production at the LHC is a crucial next step to probe the MSSM Higgs sector. We emphasize that the production of H^\pm A^0 and H^{+}H^{-} depends only on the electroweak gauge couplings while all the leading Higgs production channels via gluon fusion, vector-boson fusion, and Higgsstrahlung depend on additional free Higgs sector parameters. In the non…
We analyse the sensitivity of quark flavour-changing observables to the MSSM, in a regime of heavy superpartner masses. We analyse four distinct and motivated frameworks characterising the structure of the soft-breaking terms by means of approximate flavour symmetries. We show that a set of six low-energy observables with realistic chances of improvement in the near future, namely $ΔM_{s,d}$, $ε_K$, $ε_K'/ε_K$, $\mathcal{B} (K\to πν\barν)$, and the phase of $D$--$\bar D$ mixing, could play a very important role in charactering these frameworks in a regime of superpartner masses up to $\mathcal…
If supersymmetric partners of the known particles have masses at the multi-TeV scale, they will not be directly discovered at planned future colliders and decouple from most observables. However, such superpartners also induce non-decoupling effects that break the supersymmetric equivalence of gauge boson couplings $g_i$ and gaugino couplings $h_i$ through supersymmetric analogues of the oblique corrections. Working within well-motivated theoretical frameworks, we find that multi-TeV scale supersymmetric particles produce deviations at the 1-10% level in the ratios $h_i/g_i$. Such effects allo…
We consider the leading one-loop Yukawa-coupling corrections to the h^0 b b-bar coupling at O(m_t^2)in the MSSM in the decoupling limit. The decoupling behavior of the corrections from the various MSSM sectors is analyzed in the case of having some or all of the supersymmetric mass parameters and/or the CP-odd Higgs mass large as compared to the electroweak scale.
We calculate the leading contribution to the left-right asymmetry in polarized Møller scattering from the superpartners in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM), using an effective lagrangian approach. We determine the maximum asymmetry that can result from the superpartners in the MSSM under different scenarios, and discuss the feasibility of a high-precision, low-energy ($\sqrt{s}\approx 200~{\rm MeV}$) Møller scattering experiment to see supersymmetry.
For large values of tan(beta) interesting effects arise in the MSSM due to the enhancement of down-quark self-energies. These effects are well-studied within the decoupling limit, i.e. in the limit of supersymmetric masses far above the electroweak scale. In this article I discuss those issues which emerge from a treatment of these effects that goes beyond the decoupling limit.
Tantalizing hints of the Higgs boson of mass around 125 GeV have been reported at the LHC. We explore the MSSM parameter space in which the 125 GeV state is identified as the heavier of the CP even Higgs bosons, and study two scenarios where the two photon production rate can be significantly larger than the standard model (SM). In one scenario, $Γ(H\to γγ)$ is enhanced by a light stau contribution, while the $WW^{\ast}$ ($ZZ^{\ast}$) rate stays around the SM rate. In the other scenario, $Γ(H\to b\bar{b})$ is suppressed and not only the $γγ$ but also the $WW^{\ast}$ ($ZZ^{\ast}$) rates should …
In the decoupling limit of a non-minimal Higgs sector, the lightest CP-even Higgs boson (h) is indistinguishable from the Standard Model (SM) Higgs boson. In the two-Higgs-doublet sector of the MSSM, the approach to the decoupling limit (for m_A>>m_Z) persists, even in the presence of potentially large (tan(beta)-enhanced) radiative corrections to the hbb coupling. Radiative corrections can also generate an accidental cancellation between tree-level and one-loop terms, resulting in a SM-like Higgs boson for moderate m_A outside the decoupling regime.
In this paper we compute the $\mathcal{O}(α_s α_t)$ threshold corrections to the running strong coupling constant, the top-Yukawa coupling and the top-quark mass within the MSSM. These parameters present a non-decoupling behaviour with the supersymmetry scale $M_{\rm SUSY}$. Our numerical analysis shows that the mixed QCD-Yukawa corrections can amount to few GeV for the running top-quark mass and range at the percent level for the top-Yukawa coupling.
We study the heavy Higgs sector of the MSSM composed of the H^\pm, H^0 and A^0 particles in the so-called decoupling limit where m_{A^0} >> m_Z. By integrating out these heavy Higgs particles to one-loop, we compute the effective action for the electroweak gauge bosons and find out that, in the decoupling limit, all the heavy Higgs effects can be absorbed into redefinitions of the Standard Model electroweak parameters. This demonstrates explicitely that the decoupling theorem works for the heavy MSSM Higgs particles. This is also compared with the paradigmatic and different case of the Standar…
A small Higgs mass parameter m_{h_u}^2 can be insensitive to various trial heavy stop masses, if a universal soft squared mass is assumed for the chiral superpartners and the Higgs boson at the grand unification (GUT) scale, and a focus point (FP) of m_{h_u}^2 appears around the stop mass scale. The challenges in the FP scenario are (1) a too heavy stop mass (~ 5 TeV) needed for the 126 GeV Higgs mass and (2) the too high gluino mass bound (> 1.4 TeV). For a successful FP scenario, we consider (1) a superheavy right-hand (RH) neutrino and (2) the first and second generations of hierarchically …
The extensions of the minimal supersymmetric model (MSSM), driving mainly from the need to solve the μproblem, involve novel matter species and gauge groups. These extended MSSM models can be searched for at the LHC via the effects of the gauge and Higgs bosons or their fermionic partners. Traditionally, the focus has been on the study of the extra forces induced by the new gauge and Higgs bosons present in such models. An alternative way of studying such effects is through the superpartners of matter species and the gauge forces. We thus consider a $U(1)^\prime$ gauge extension of the MSSM, a…
We study the supersymmetric (SUSY) QCD radiative corrections, at the one-loop level, to $h^0$, $H^{\pm}$ and t quark decays, in the context of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) and in the decoupling limit. The decoupling behaviour of the various MSSM sectors is analyzed in some special cases, where some or all of the SUSY mass parameters become large as compared to the electroweak scale. We show that in the decoupling limit of both large SUSY mass parameters and large CP-odd Higgs mass, the $Γ(h^0\to b \bar b)$ decay width approaches its Standard Model value at one loop, with th…
Two-loop contributions to the muon (g-2) from fermion/sfermion loops in the MSSM are presented, and an overview of the full MSSM prediction for (g-2) is given with emphasis on the behaviour in scenarios which are compatible with LHC data, including scenarios with large mass splittings. Compared to all previously known two-loop contributions, the fermion/sfermion-loop contributions can yield the largest numerical results. The new contributions contain the important universal quantities Δα and Δρ, and for large sfermion masses the contributions are non-decoupling and logarithmically enhanced. We…
Uncertainties of the MSSM predictions are due to an unknown SUSY breaking mechanism. To reduce these uncertainties, one usually imposes constraints on the MSSM parameter space. Recently, two new constraints became available, both from astrophysics: WMAP precise measurement of the amount of the Dark Matter in the Universe and EGRET data on an excess in diffuse gamma ray flux. Being interpreted as a manifestation of supersymmetry these data lead to severe constraints on parameter space and single out a very restricted area. The key feature of this area is the splitting of light gauginos from hea…
We analyze the supersymmetric (SUSY) QCD contribution to the $h^0 b \bar{b}$ coupling at one loop in the Minimal Supersymmetric Model (MSSM) in the decoupling limit. Analytic expressions in the large SUSY mass region are derived and the decoupling behavior of the corrections is examined in various limiting cases, where some or all of the SUSY mass parameters become large. We show that in the decoupling limit of large SUSY mass parameters and large CP-odd Higgs mass, the $h^0 b \bar b$ coupling approaches its Standard Model value at one loop. However, the onset of decoupling is delayed when $\t…
We review electroweak symmetry breaking in supersymmetric models with a compact fifth dimension, the interval. We show how boundary conditions for hypermultiplets can be obtained dynamically by brane mass terms and present formulae for the spectrum in the presence of general bulk mass matrices. After giving a brief overview on the literature of models, we describe in detail a recently proposed model that at energies below the compactification scale reduces to the MSSM with a very peculiar superpartner spectrum.
We study the contribution of charginos and neutralinos of the Minimal SUSY extension of the Standard model (MSSM) to the 1-loop vertices ZAA, ZZA, ZZZ, and examine the related cancellation of anomalies. It is found that when the SUSY parameter μsatisfies |μ| >> M,M', m_W, the couplings of charginos and neutralinos with the gauge bosons become purely vectorial, and then their contribution to the amplitudes for ZAA, ZZA and ZZZ vanish, which implies that this sector of the MSSM does not generate a Wess-Zumino term. We evaluate also the contribution of charginos and neutralinos to the ρparameter,…
The cross section for the production of the lightest neutral Higgs boson in association with a high-pT hadronic jet, calculated in the framework of the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM), is presented. The expectations for the hadronic cross section at the Large Hadron Collider are discussed using reasonable kinematical cuts. In particular the contributions from superpartner loops to the cross section and their dependence on the parameters of the MSSM are investigated and found to be significant. Comparisons show that the production rate for h0 + jet in the MSSM can differ widely fro…
In multi-Higgs models, the properties of one neutral scalar state approximate those of the Standard Model (SM) Higgs boson in a limit where the corresponding scalar field is roughly aligned in field space with the scalar doublet vacuum expectation value. In a scenario of alignment without decoupling, a SM-like Higgs boson can be accompanied by additional scalar states whose masses are of a similar order of magnitude. In the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM), alignment without decoupling can be achieved due to an accidental cancellation of tree-level and radiative loop-level effects.…
The decoupling limit in the MSSM Higgs sector is the most likely scenario in light of the Higgs discovery. This scenario is further constrained by MSSM Higgs search bounds and flavor observables. We perform a comprehensive scan of MSSM parameters and update the constraints on the decoupling MSSM Higgs sector in terms of 8 TeV LHC data. We highlight the effect of light SUSY spectrum in the heavy neutral Higgs decay in the decoupling limit. We find that the chargino and neutralino decay mode can reach at most 40% and 20% branching ratio, respectively. In particular, the invisible decay mode BR(H…
The electroweak phase transition and the sphaleron decoupling condition in the MSSM are revisited taking the latest experimental data into account. The light Higgs boson scenario and the ordinary decoupling limit which are classified by the relative size between the CP-odd Higgs boson mass and Z boson mass are considered within the context of electroweak baryogenesis. We investigate v/T at not only the critical temperature at which the effective potential has two degenerate minima but also the nucleation temperature of the critical bubbles, where v is a vacuum expectation value of the Higgs bo…
Dipole operator $\bar{s}σ_{μν}F^{μν}b$ requires the helicity flip in the involving quark states thus the breaking of chiral $U(3)_{Q}\times U(3)_{d}$. On the other hand, the $b$-quark mass generation is also a consequence of chiral $U(3)_{Q}\times U(3)_{d}$ symmetry breaking. Therefore, in many models, there might be strong correlation between the $b\to sγ$ and $b$ quark Yukawa coupling. We use non-decoupling MSSM model to illustrate this feature. The light Higgs boson may evade the direct search experiments at LEPII or Tevatron while the 125 GeV Higgs-like boson is identified as the heavy Hig…
We study neutralino sectors in extensions of the MSSM that dynamically generate the mu-term. The extra neutralino states are superpartners of the Higgs singlets and/or additional gauge bosons. The extended models may have distinct lightest neutralino properties which can have important influences on their phenomenology. We consider constraints on the lightest neutralino from LEP, Tevatron, and (g-2)_mu measurements and the relic density of the dark matter. The lightest neutralino can be extremely light and/or dominated by its singlino component which does not couple directly to SM particles ex…
For superpartner masses not much heavier than the weak scale $M=M_{\rm W}$, large logarithmic corrections of the Sudakov type arise at TeV energies. In this paper we summarize recent results of supersymmetric (susy) electroweak radiative corrections for sfermion and charged Higgs production at $e^+e^-$ colliders in the MSSM. The results are given to subleading logarithmic (SL) accuracy to all orders in perturbation theory in the ``light'' susy-mass scenario. Prospects for the determination of $\tan β\geq 10$ are discussed which is independent of soft susy-breaking terms to SL accuracy.
The possibility of generating a large trilinear $A_t$ soft supersymmetry breaking coupling at low energies through renormalisation group evolution in the 5D MSSM is investigated. Using the power law running in five dimensions and a compactification scale in the 10-$10^3$ TeV range, to show that gluino mass may drive a large enough $A_t$ to reproduce the measured Higgs mass and have a light stop superpartner below $\sim 1$ TeV as preferred by the fine tuning argument for the Higgs mass.
A heavy supersymmetric spectrum at the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model is considered and the decoupling from the low energy electroweak scale is analyzed. A formal and partial proof of decoupling of supersymmetric particles in the limit where their masses are larger than the electroweak scale is performed by integrating out all the sparticles to one loop and by evaluating the effective action for the standard electroweak gauge bosons $W^{\pm}, Z$ and $γ$. The Higgs sector is not considered here. Analytical results for the two-point functions of the electroweak gauge bosons and the $S, T$…
In supersymmetric standard models with multi Higgs doublet fields, selfcoupling constants in the Higgs potential come only from the D-terms at the tree level. We investigate the decoupling property of additional two heavier Higgs doublet fields in the supersymmetric standard model with four Higgs doublets. In particular, we study how they can modify the predictions on the quantities well predicted in the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM), when the extra doublet fields are rather heavy to be measured at collider experiments. The B-term mixing between these extra heavy Higgs bosons an…
We propose a supersymmetric extension of the standard model which is a realistic alternative to the MSSM, and which has several advantages. No ``mu'' supersymmetric Higgs/Higgsino mass parameter is needed for sufficiently heavy charginos. An approximate U(1) R symmetry naturally guarantees that tan beta is large, explaining the top/bottom quark mass hierarchy. This symmetry also suppresses supersymmetric contributions to anomalous magnetic moments, b to s gamma, and proton decay, and these processes place no lower bounds on superpartner masses, even at large tan beta. The soft supersymmetry br…
In the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM), a Higgs boson mass of 125 GeV can be obtained with moderately heavy scalar top superpartners provided they are highly mixed. The source of this mixing, a soft trilinear stop-stop-Higgs coupling, can result in the appearance of charge- and color-breaking minima in the scalar potential of the theory. If such a vacuum exists and is energetically favorable, the Standard Model-like vacuum can decay to it via quantum tunnelling. In this work we investigate the conditions under which such exotic vacua arise, and we compute the tunnelling rates to t…
Dismissing traditional naturalness concerns while embracing the Higgs boson mass measurement and unification motivates careful analysis of trans-TeV supersymmetric theories. We take an effective field theory (EFT) approach, matching the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) onto the Standard Model (SM) EFT by integrating out heavy superpartners, and evolving MSSM and SMEFT parameters according to renormalization group equations in each regime. Our matching calculation is facilitated by the recent covariant diagrams formulation of functional matching techniques, with the full one-loop SU…
We study light, thermal neutralino dark matter in the sub-GeV to 65 GeV mass range in the Minimal Supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model (MSSM). We consider realizations of the limit of alignment without decoupling in the Higgs sector where the heavier CP-even Higgs impersonates the observed Higgs state at 125 GeV, while the lighter CP-even Higgs is the mediator of dark matter annihilation. We single out three distinct and novel possibilities for light dark matter: (i) a neutralino with mass around half the light Higgs mass, in the sub-GeV to 30 GeV mass range; (ii) a neutralino with a…
We propose a supersymmetric extension of the standard model which does not have a ``mu'' supersymmetric Higgs mass parameter. The matter content of the MSSM is extended with three additional chiral superfields: one singlet, an SU(2) triplet and a color octet, and an approximate U(1)_R symmetry naturally guarantees that tan(beta) is large, explaining the top/bottom quark mass hierarchy. Unlike in the MSSM, there are significant upper bounds on the masses of superpartners, including an upper bound of 114 GeV on the mass of the lightest chargino. However the MSSM bound on the lightest Higgs mass …
If collider experiments demonstrate that the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) is a good description of nature at the weak scale, the experimental priority will be the precise determination of superpartner masses. These masses are governed by the weak scale values of the soft supersymmetry (SUSY)-breaking parameters, which are in turn highly dependent on the SUSY-breaking scheme present at high scales. It is therefore of great interest to find patterns in the soft parameters that can distinguish different high scale SUSY-breaking structures, identify the scale at which the breaking …
Moduli fields with Planck-suppressed couplings to light species are common in string compactifications. Decays of these moduli can reheat the universe at a late time and produce dark matter non-thermally. For generic moduli fields motivated by string theory with masses similar to that of the gravitino and TeV-scale superpartners in the minimal supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM), the non-thermal production of the lightest superpartner (LSP) tends to create an unacceptably large relic density or too strong of an indirect detection signal. We call this the moduli-induced LSP problem of the MSSM…
The new SM-like Higgs boson discovered recently at the LHC, with mass $m_h \simeq$ 125 GeV, as well as the direct LHC bounds on the mass of superpartners, which are entering into the TeV range, suggest that the minimal surviving supersymmetric extension of the SM (MSSM), should be characterized by a heavy SUSY-breaking scale. Several variants of the MSSM have been proposed to account for this result, which vary according to the accepted degree of fine-tuning. We propose an alternative scenario here, Slim SUSY, which contains sfermions with multi-TeV masses and gauginos/higgsinos near the EW sc…
Recent LHC searches have provided strong evidence for the Higgs, a boson whose gauge quantum numbers coincide with those of a SM fermion, the neutrino. This raises the mandatory question of whether Higgs and neutrino can be related by supersymmetry. We study this possibility in a model in which an approximate R-symmetry acts as a lepton number. We show that Higgs physics resembles that of the SM-Higgs with the exception of a novel invisible decay into Goldstino and neutrino with a branching fraction that can be as large as ~10%. Based on naturalness criteria, only stops and sbottoms are requir…
D3-brane probes of exceptional Yukawa points in F-theory GUTs are natural hidden sectors for particle phenomenology. We find that coupling the probe to the MSSM yields a new class of N = 1 conformal fixed points with computable infrared R-charges. Quite surprisingly, we find that the MSSM only weakly mixes with the strongly coupled sector in the sense that the MSSM fields pick up small exactly computable anomalous dimensions. Additionally, we find that although the states of the probe sector transform as complete GUT multiplets, their coupling to Standard Model fields leads to a calculable thr…
The possibility of identification of an observable CMS $μ^+ μ^-$ excess at 28 GeV in the channel $pp\to μ^+ μ^- b \bar b$ at $\sqrt{s}$=8 TeV and 13 TeV as a manifestation of one of the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM) Higgs bosons is investigated. The MSSM parametric scenarios in the regime of large threshold corrections involving low-mass CP-odd scalar, a 125 GeV CP-even scalar and other Higgs bosons with suitable masses are found, where the alignment limit conditions for the Higgs couplings are respected. Perturbative unitarity bounds and constraints on the electroweak vacuum st…
The lightest neutralino can be extremely light and/or dominated by its singlino component, which does not couple directly to SM particles e…
We propose a novel mechanism of electroweak symmetry breaking in supersymmetric models, as the one recently discussed by Birkedal, Chacko and Gaillard, in which the Standard Model Higgs doublet is a pseudo-Goldstone boson of some global symmetry. The Higgs mass parameter is generated at one loop level by two different, moderately fine-tuned sources of the global symmetry breaking. The mechanism works for scalar superpartner masses of order 10 TeV, but gauginos can be light. The scale at which supersymmetry breaking is mediated to the visible sector has to be low, of order 100 TeV. Fine-tuning …
We construct a model of an unparticle sector consisting of a supersymmetric SU(N) gauge theory with the number of flavors in the Seiberg conformal window. We couple this sector to the MSSM via heavy messengers. The resulting low energy theory has a Higgs coupling to unparticles. The Higgs vev drives the hidden Seiberg sector to a new conformal fixed point. The coupling to the Higgs mediates supersymmetry breaking to the Seiberg sector, and breaks conformal invariance at a lower scale. The low energy theory contains light stable and metastable mesons. Higgs decay into this sector gives signatur…
In the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM), a strongly first-order electroweak phase transition (EWPT) is only possible in a confined parameter region where one of the scalar top quarks is lighter than the top quark and the other one is as heavy as the SUSY breaking scale. If the MSSM is enlarged to accommodate vector-like quarks and their superpartners, we find that the strongly first-order EWPT is possible without requiring light scalar top quark at the one-loop level, in the limit where the lightest scalar Higgs boson of the MSSM behaves like the Higgs boson of the standard model a…
Masses of heavy Standard Model fermions (top-quark, bottom-quark, and tau-lepton) play an important role in the analysis of theories beyond the SM. They serve as low-energy input and reduce the parameter space of such theories. In this paper Minimal supersymmetric extension of the SM is considered and two-loop relations between known SM values of fermion masses and running parameters of the MSSM are studied within the effective theory approach. Both b-quark and tau-lepton have the same quantum numbers with respect to SU(2) groupand in the MSSM acquire their masses due to interactions with the …
In these proceedings we review the flavour phenomenology of two-Higgs-doublet models (2HDMs) and connect the results to the decoupling limit of the MSSM. We first study the impact of FCNC constraints on the allowed parameter space of the 2HDM and examine how recent deviations from the SM expectations in tauonic $B$ decays (observed by BABAR) can be explained in a 2HDM with generic flavour structure (of type III) with sizable flavour violation in the up-sector. Afterwards, we discusses the matching of the MSSM on the 2HDM of type III. Here we focus on the two-loop SQCD corrections to the Higgs-…
Our study starts with a sequence of puzzles that include $(a)$ at which level $μ$ problem involving electroweak symmetry breaking can be solved; $(b)$ in which paradigm masses of superpartners in the third family can be lighter than in the first two families; $(c)$ whether it is possible to accommodate 125 GeV Higgs boson simultaneously; and $(d)$ how natural such paradigm is. These issues are considered in the context of two-site SUSY models. Both the MSSM and NMSSM as low-energy effective theory below the scale of two-site gauge symmetry breaking are investigated. We find that the fine tunin…
We supplement the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM) with vector-like copies of standard model particles. Such 4th generation particles can raise the Higgs boson mass to the observed value without requiring very heavy superpartners, improving naturalness and the prospects for discovering supersymmetry at the LHC. Here we show that these new particles are also motivated cosmologically: in the MSSM, pure Bino dark matter typically overcloses the Universe, but 4th generation particles open up new annihilation channels, allowing Binos to have the correct thermal relic density without res…
We show that a 125 GeV Higgs boson and percent-level fine-tuning are simultaneously attainable in the MSSM, with no additional fields and supersymmetry breaking generated at the GUT scale. The Higgs mass is raised by large radiative contributions from top squarks with significant left-right mixing, and naturalness is preserved by the focus point mechanism with large $A$-terms, which suppresses large log-enhanced sensitivities to variations in the fundamental parameters. The focus point mechanism is independent of almost all supersymmetry-breaking parameters, but is predictive in the top sector…
Running of gauge couplings in the MSSM from a unified value at high energies leads to a successful prediction of the weak mixing angle. Supersymmetric models at the TeV scale may contain further hints of high scale physics, such as the pattern of superpartner masses when evolved from the TeV scale to a high scale using the renormalization group. This running is traditionally assumed to be independent of effects in the hidden sector. In this paper we re-examine this assumption, and conclude that the predictions for scalar masses may depend sensitively on the details of the mechanism of supersym…
We perform a parameter scan of the phenomenological Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (pMSSM) with eight parameters taking into account the experimental Higgs boson results from Run I of the LHC and further low-energy observables. We investigate various MSSM interpretations of the Higgs signal at 125 GeV. First, we consider the case where the light CP-even Higgs boson of the MSSM is identified with the discovered Higgs boson. In this case it can impersonate the SM Higgs-like signal either in the decoupling limit, or in the limit of alignment without decoupling. In the latter case, the othe…
