We study the effect of the acceleration of the observer on a parameter estimation protocol using NOON states. An inertial observer, Alice, prepares a NOON state in Unruh modes of the quantum field, and sends it to an accelerated observer, Rob. We calculate the quantum Fisher information of the state received by Rob. We find the counter-intuitive result that the single rail encoding outperforms the dual rail. The NOON states have an optimal $N$ for the maximum information extractable by Rob, given his acceleration. This optimal $N$ decreases with increasing acceleration.
We propose a scheme to realize two-parameter estimation via a Bose-Einstein condensates confined in a symmetric triple-well potential. The three-mode NOON state is prepared adiabatically as the initial state. The two parameters to be estimated are the phase differences between the wells. The sensitivity of this estimation scheme is studied by comparing quantum and classical Fisher information matrices. As a result, we find an optimal particle number measurement method. Moreover, the precision of this estimation scheme behaves the Heisenberg scaling under the optimal measurement.
Multi-mode NOON states have been attracting increasing attentions recently for their abilities of obtaining supersensitive and superresolved measurements for simultaneous multiple-phase estimation. In this paper, four different methods of generating multi-mode NOON states with high photon number are proposed. The first method is a linear optical approach that makes use of the Fock state filtration to reduce lower-order Fock state terms from the coherent state inputs, which are jointly combined to produce a multi-mode NOON state with the triggering of single-photon coincidence detections (SPCD)…
The simultaneous multi-parameter estimation problem using a class of multi-mode entangled states is investigated in this paper. Specifically, the problem of optical phase imaging is considered and the quantum probe is taken to be a balanced coherent superposition of components with an arbitrary quantum state in one mode and vacuum states in all the other modes, which is a generalization of the multi-mode NOON state. The analytical form for the quantum Cramer-Rao bound (QCRB) is presented, which shows the performance by providing a lower bound of the estimation uncertainty. It is shown that the…
Many researches proposed the use of the noon state as the input state for phase estimation, which is one topic of quantum metrology. This is because the input noon state provides the maximum Fisher information at the specific point. However, the Fisher information does not necessarily give the attainable bound for estimation error. In this paper, we adopt the local asymptotic mini-max criterion as well as the mini-max criterion, and show that the maximum Fisher information does not give the attainable bound for estimation error under these criteria in the phase estimation. We also propose the …

In this paper, we are interested in detecting the presence of a nearby phase-sensitive object, where traveling light works out under a low-photon loss rate. Here we investigate the optimal quantum phase estimation with generalized multi-component Schrodinger cat states. In addition, we show the optimal conditions of the generalized multi-component cat states for the phase estimation in a lossless scenario. We then demonstrate that the generalized multi-component cat states can beat the performances of the NOON and two-mode squeezed vacuum states in the presence of small loss, while maintaining…
We investigate the optimal quantum state for an atomic gyroscope based on a three-site Bose-Hubbard model. In previous studies, various states such as the uncorrelated state, the BAT state and the NOON state are employed as the probe states to estimate the phase uncertainty. In this article, we present a Hermitian operator $\mathcal{H}$ and an equivalent unitary parametrization transformation to calculate the quantum Fisher information for any initial states. Exploiting this equivalent unitary parametrization transformation, we can seek the optimal state which gives the maximal quantum Fisher …
We present an improved phase estimation scheme employing entangled coherent states and demon- strate that the states give the smallest variance in the phase parameter in comparison to NOON, BAT and "optimal" states under perfect and lossy conditions. As these advantages emerge for very modest particle numbers, the optical version of entangled coherent state metrology is achievable with current technology.
The angular displacement estimation is one of significant branches of quantum parameter estimation. However, most of the studies have focused on the single-angular displacement estimation, while the multiple angular displacement estimation in ideal and noisy scenarios is still elusive. In this paper, we investigate the simultaneous multiple angular displacement estimation based on an orbital angular momentum (OAM), together with inputting (d + 1)-mode NOON-like states as the probe state. By revealing the role of the intramode correlation of the probe state, this allows us to give a reasonable …
We propose a generalized form of entangled coherent states (ECS) and apply them in a multi-arm optical interferometer to estimate multiple phase shifts. We obtain the quantum Cramer-Rao bounds for both the linear and nonlinear parameterization protocols. Through the analysis, we find that, utilizing the simultaneous estimation, this generalized form of ECS gives a better precision than the generalized NOON states [Phys. Rev. Lett. \textbf{111}, 070403 (2013)]. Moreover, comparing with the independent estimation, both the linear and nonlinear protocols have the same advantage in the relation to…
Ramsey interferometry allows the estimation of the phase $ϕ$ of rotation of the pseudospin vector of an ensemble of two-state quantum systems. For $ϕ$ small, the noise-to-signal ratio scales as the spin-squeezing parameter $ξ$, with $ξ<1$ possible for an entangled ensemble. However states with minimum $ξ$ are not optimal for single-shot measurements of an arbitrary phase. We define a phase-squeezing parameter, $ζ$, which is an appropriate figure-of-merit for this case. We show that (unlike the states that minimize $ξ$), the states that minimize $ζ$ can be created by evolving an unentangled sta…
We derive families of optimal and near-optimal probe states for quantum estimation of the coupling constants of a general two-mode number-conserving bosonic Hamiltonian describing one-body and two-body dynamics. We find that the optimal states for estimating the dephasing of the modes, the self-interaction strength, and the contact interaction strength are related to the NOON states, whereas the optimal states for estimation of the intermode single particle tunneling amplitude are superpositions of antipodal SU(2) coherent states. For estimation of the amplitude of pair tunneling and the ampli…
Circular dichroism (CD) is a widely used technique for investigating optically chiral molecules, especially for biomolecules. It is thus of great importance that these parameters be estimated precisely so that the molecules with desired functionalities can be designed. In order to surpass the limits of classical measurements, we need to probe the system with quantum light. We develop quantum Fisher information matrix (QFIM) for precision estimates of the circular dichroism and the optical rotary dispersion for a variety of input quantum states of light. The Cramer-Rao bounds, for all four chir…
We address the quantum estimation of parameters encoded into the initial state of two modes of a Dirac field described by relatively accelerated parties. By using the quantum Fisher information (QFI), we investigate how the weak measurements performed before and after the accelerating observer, affect the optimal estimation of information encoded into the weight and phase parameters of the initial state shared between the parties. Studying the QFI, associated with weight parameter $ \vartheta $, we find that the acceleration at which the optimal estimation occurs may be controlled by weak meas…
Relativistic effects on the precision of quantum metrology for particle detectors, such as two-level atoms are studied. The quantum Fisher information is used to estimate the phase sensitivity of atoms in non-inertial motions or in gravitational fields. The Unruh-DeWitt model is applicable to the investigation of the dynamics of a uniformly accelerated atom weakly coupled to a massless scalar vacuum field. When a measuring device is in the same relativistic motion as the atom, the dynamical behavior of quantum Fisher information as a function of Rindler proper time are obtained. It is found ou…
The minimum error of unbiased parameter estimation is quantified by the quantum Fisher information in accordance to the Cramér-Rao bound. We indicate that only superposed NOON states by simultaneous measurements can achieve the maximum quantum Fisher information with form $<\hat{N}^{2}>$ for a given photon number distribution by a POVM in linear two-path interferometer phase measurement. We present a series of specified superposed states with infinite quantum Fisher information but with finite average photon numbers. The advantage of this unbounded quantum Fisher information will be beneficial…
Using a two-level moving probe, we address the temperature estimation of a static thermal bath modeled by a massless scalar field prepared in a thermal state. Different couplings of the probe to the field are discussed under various scenarios. We find that the thermometry is completely unaffected by the Lamb shift of the energy levels. We take into account the roles of probe velocity, its initial preparation, and environmental control parameters for achieving optimal temperature estimation. We show that a practical technique can be utilized to implement such a quantum thermometry. Finally, exp…
We obtain the accuracy limit for estimating the expectation value of the position of a relativistic particle for an observer moving along one direction at a constant velocity. We use a specific model of a relativistic spin-1/2 particle described by a gaussian wave function with a spin down in the rest frame. To derive the state vector of the particle for the moving observer, we use the Wigner rotation that entangles the spin and the momentum of the particle. Based on this wave function for the moving frame, we obtain the symmetric logarithmic derivative (SLD) Cramer-Rao bound that sets the est…
We study the sensitivity of phase estimation using a generic class of path-symmetric entangled states $|φ\rangle|0\rangle+|0\rangle|φ\rangle$, where an arbitrary state $|φ\rangle$ occupies one of two modes in quantum superposition. This class of states includes the previously considered states, i.e. $NOON$ states and entangled coherent states, as special cases. With its generalization, we identify the practical limit of phase estimation under energy constraint that is characterized by the photon statistics of the component state $|φ\rangle$. We first show that quantum Cramer-Rao bound (QCRB) c…
Measurement underpins all quantitative science. A key example is the measurement of optical phase, used in length metrology and many other applications. Advances in precision measurement have consistently led to important scientific discoveries. At the fundamental level, measurement precision is limited by the number N of quantum resources (such as photons) that are used. Standard measurement schemes, using each resource independently, lead to a phase uncertainty that scales as 1/sqrt(N) - known as the standard quantum limit. However, it has long been conjectured that it should be possible to …
Bayesian phase difference estimation algorithm for direct calculation of fine structure splitting: accelerated simulation of relativistic and quantum many-body effects
Interferometry with NOON quantum states can provide unbiased phase estimation with a sensitivity scaling as $Δθ\sim 1/N_T$ given a prior knowledge that the true phase shift $θ$ lies in the interval $-π\leq θ\leq π$. The protocol requires a total of $N_T = 2^{p}-1$ particles (unequally) distributed among $p$ independent measurements and overcomes basic difficulties present in previously proposed approaches. We demonstrate the possibility to obtain a phase sensitivity beating the classical shot-noise limit using published probabilities retrieved experimentally for the creation of Schrödinger cat…

We consider the probability distribution when the monotonic function $F(X)$ of the independent variable $X$ takes the maximum or minimum expected value under the two constraints of a certain probability and a certain expected value of the independent variable $X$. We proposed an equal probability and equal expected value splitting method. With this method, we proved four inequalities, and two of them can be reduced to Jensen's inequalities. Subsequently, we find that after dividing the non-monotone function $H(X)$ into multiple monotone intervals, the problem of solving the maximum and minimum…

We address the teleportation of single- and two-qubit quantum states, parametrized by weight $θ$ and phase $ϕ$ parameters, in the presence of the Unruh effect experienced by a mode of a free Dirac field. We investigate the effects of the partial measurement (PM) and partial measurement reversal (PMR) on the quantum resources (QRs) and quantum Fisher information (QFI) of the teleported states. In particular, we discuss the optimal behavior of the QFI, quantum coherence (QC) as well as fidelity with respect to the PM and PMR strength and examine the effect of the Unruh noise on optimal estimatio…
Relativistic quantum metrology provides an optimal strategy for the estimation of parameters encoded in quantum fields in flat and curved spacetime. These parameters usually correspond to physical quantities of interest such as proper times, accelerations, gravitational field strengths, among other spacetime parameters. The precise estimation of these parameters can lead to novel applications in gravimeters, spacetime probes and gravitational wave detectors. Previous work in this direction only considered pure probe states. In realistic situations, however, probe states are mixed. In this pape…
Relativistic quantum metrology studies the maximal achievable precision for estimating a physical quantity when both quantum and relativistic effects are taken into account. We study the relativistic quantum metrology of temperature in (3+1)-dimensional de Sitter and anti-de Sitter space. Using Unruh-DeWitt detectors coupled to a massless scalar field as probes and treating them as open quantum systems, we compute the Fisher information for estimating temperature. We investigate the effect of acceleration in dS, and the effect of boundary condition in AdS. We find that the phenomenology of the…
We investigate the performance of entangled coherent state for quantum enhanced phase estimation. An exact analytical expression of quantum Fisher information is derived to show the role of photon losses on the ultimate phase sensitivity. We find a transition of the sensitivity from the Heisenberg scaling to the classical scaling due to quantum decoherence of the photon state. This quantum-classical transition is uniquely determined by the number of photons being lost, instead of the number of incident photons or the photon loss rate alone. Our results also reveal that a crossover of the sensi…
We investigate the ultimate estimation precision, characterized by the quantum Fisher information, of a two-level atom as a detector which is coupled to massless scalar field in the Minkowski vacuum. It has been shown that for an inertial detector moving with a constant velocity, its quantum Fisher information is completely unaffected by the velocity, however, it still decays over time due to the decoherence caused by the interaction between the atom and the field. In addition, for a uniformly accelerated detector ($w=0$) moving along spatially straight line, the accelerated motion will reduce…
The Hong-Ou-Mandel (HOM) effect is analyzed for photons in a modified Mach-Zehnder setup with two particles experiencing different gravitational potentials, which are later recombined using a beam-splitter. It is found that the HOM effect depends directly on the relativistic time dilation between the arms of the setup. This temporal dilation can be used to estimate the $γ$ and $β$ parameters of the parameterized post-Newtonian formalism. The uncertainty in the parameters $γ$ and $β$ are of the order $ 10^{-8}-10^{-12}$, depending on the quantum state employed.
Quantum metrology studies the ultimate limit of precision in estimating a physical quantity if quantum strategies are exploited. Here we investigate the evolution of a two-level atom as a detector which interacts with a massless scalar field using the master equation approach for open quantum system. We employ local quantum estimation theory to estimate the Unruh temperature when probed by a uniformly accelerated detector in the Minkowski vacuum. In particular, we evaluate the Fisher information (FI) for population measurement, maximize its value over all possible detector preparations and evo…

Applications of great technological relevance lie in the precise measurement of parameters which play a central role in relativity, such as proper accelerations, relative distances, time and gravitational field strengths. In this paper we generalise recently introduced techniques to estimate physical quantities within quantum field theory in flat and curved space-time. We con…
Quantum metrology studies the ultimate precision limit of physical quantities by using quantum strategy. In this paper we apply the quantum metrology technologies to the relativistic framework for estimating the deficit angle parameter of cosmic string spacetime. We use a two-level atom coupled to electromagnetic fields as the probe and derive its dynamical evolution by treating it as an open quantum system. We estimate the deficit angle parameter by calculating its quantum Fisher information(QFI). It is found that the quantum Fisher information depends on the deficit angle, evolution time, de…

However, typical setups do not take into …
We consider quantum communication schemes where quantum optical signals are exchanged between a source on Earth and a satellite. The background curved spacetime affects the quantum state of the propagating photons. We employ quantum-metrology techniques to obtain optimal bounds for the precision of quantum measurements of relevant physical parameters encoded in the final state. We focus on satellites in low Earth orbits and we find that our scheme improves the precision of the measurement of the Schwarzschild radius obtained within previous studies. Therefore, our techniques can provide the th…
