In the framework of Lorentzian multiply warped products we study the Gibbons-Maeda-Garfinkle-Horowitz-Strominger (GMGHS) spacetime near hypersurfaces in the interior of the event horizon. We also investigate the geodesic motion in hypersurfaces.
We study the timelike geodesic congruences in the generalized Ellis-Bronnikov spacetime (4D-GEB) and in recently proposed 5D model where a 4D-GEB is embedded in a warped geometry (5D-WGEB) and conduct a comparative study. Analytical expressions of ESR variables (for 4D geometries) are found which reveal the role of the wormhole parameter. In more general 4D and 5D scenarios geodesic equation, geodesic deviation equation and Raychaudhury equations are solved numerically. The evolution of cross-sectional area of the congruences of timelike geodesics (orthogonal to the geodesic flow lines) projec…
In this paper we provide several uniqueness and non-existence results for complete parabolic constant mean curvature spacelike hypersurfaces in Lorentzian warped products under appropriate geometric assumptions. As a consequence of this parametric study, we obtain very general uniqueness and non-existence results for a large family of uniformly elliptic EDP's, so solving the Calabi-Bernstein problem in a wide family of spacetimes.
In this article, we explore the kinematics of timelike geodesic congruences in warped five dimensional bulk spacetimes, with and without thick or thin branes. Beginning with geodesic flows in the Randall--Sundrum AdS (Anti de Sitter) geometry without and with branes we find analytical expressions for the expansion scalar and comment on the effects of including thin branes on its evolution. Later, we move on to congruences in more general warped bulk geometries with a cosmological thick brane and a time-dependent extra dimensional scale. Using analytical expressions for the velocity field, we i…
In the framework of Lorentzian multiply warped products we study the magnetically charged Gibbons-Maeda-Garfinkle-Horowitz-Strominger (GMGHS) interior spacetime in the string frame. We also investigate geodesic motion in various hypersurfaces, and compare their solutions of geodesic equations with the ones obtained in the Einstein frame.
We study the particle trajectories in the recently proposed five dimensional warped (generalized) Ellis-Bronnikov spacetime (5D-WGEB) (which does not require exotic matter) as well as it's four dimensional counterpart (4D-GEB) in detail and conduct a comparative study. Analytical approach provides conditions which determines three types of trajectories (trapped, returning and crossing) for both 4D and 5D spacetimes. Notably in 5D geometry existence of trapped trajectories become highly sensitive to the initial conditions. We have solved the timelike geodesic equations numerically and presented…
We give necessary and sufficient conditions for a semi-Riemannian manifold of arbitrary signature to be locally isometrically immersed into certain warped products. Then, we describe a way to use the structure equations of such immersions to construct foliations of marginally trapped surfaces in a four-dimensional Lorentzian spacetimes. We point out that, sometimes, Gauss and Codazzi equations are not sufficient to ensure the existence of a local isometric immersion of a semi-Riemannian manifold as a hypersurface of another manifold. We finally give two low-dimensional examples to illustrate o…
We present the explicit solution to the geodesic equations in a warped de Sitter space-time proposed by Randall-Sundrum. We find that a test particle moves in the bulk and is not restricted on a 3-brane (to be taken as our universe). On the 3-brane, the test particle moves with uniform velocity, giving the appearance that it is not subject to a force. But computing the particle's energy using the energy-momentum tensor yields a time-dependent energy that suggests a time-dependent mass. Thus, the extra force, which is the effect of the warped extra dimension on the particle's motion on the 3-br…
In this paper, we have studied a 5-dimensional warped product space-time with a time-dependent warp factor. This warp factor plays an important role in localizing matter to the 4-dimensional hypersurface constituting the observed universe and leads to a geometric interpretation of dynamical dark energy. The five-dimensional field equations are constructed and its solutions are obtained. The nature of modifications produced by this warp factor in the bulk geometry is discussed. The hypersurface is described by a flat FRW-type metric in the ordinary spatial dimension. It is found that the effect…
In this paper we have used the dynamical systems analysis to study the dynamics of a five-dimensional universe in the form of a warped product spacetime with a spacelike dynamic extra dimension. We have decomposed the geodesic equations to get the motion along the extra dimension and have studied the associated dynamical system when the cross-diagonal element of the Einstein tensor vanishes, and also when it is non-vanishing. In the first case, introducing the concept of an energy function along the phase path in terms of the extra-dimensional coordinate, we have examined how the energy functi…
We investigate the role of a specifically warped extra dimension in constructing examples of higher dimensional spacetimes representing Lorentzian wormholes. The warping chosen is largely inspired by the well-known non-static Witten bubble of nothing, though our spacetimes are static and geometrically different. Vacuum solutions in $D\geq 5$ dimensions and others (non-asymptotically flat) with `perfectly normal' matter stress energy are interpreted as possible Lorentzian wormholes. Asymptotically flat wormholes in $D\geq 5$ with `exotic matter' and within this class of spacetimes also appear t…
We investigate test particle trajectories in warped spacetimes with a thick brane warp factor, a cosmological on--brane line element and a time dependent extra dimension. The geodesic equations are reduced to a first order autonomous dynamical system. Using analytical methods, we arrive at some useful general conclusions regarding possible trajectories. Oscillatory motion, suggesting confinement about the location of the thick brane, arises for a growing warp factor. On the other hand, we find runaway trajectories (exponential-like) for a decaying warp factor. Variations of the extra dimension…
In this work we obtain the limit of the Hawking energy of a large class of foliations along general null hypersurfaces $Ω$ satisfying a weak notion of asymptotic flatness. The foliations are not required to be either geodesic or approaching large spheres at infinity. The limit is obtained in terms of a reference background geodesic foliation approaching large spheres and a positive function, constant along the null generators on $Ω$, which describes the relation between the two foliations at infinity. The integrand in the limit expression has interesting covariance and invariance properties wi…
The geometry of hypersurfaces is generalized to pseudo-hypersurfaces, which are defined by Pfaff equations. The general methods are then applied to modeling the kinematics of motion constrained by a single linear, non-holonomic constraint. They are then applied to the example of a charge moving in an electromagnetic field, and the Lorentz equation of motion is shown to represent a geodesic that is constrained to lie in a pseudo-hypersurface that is defined by the potential 1-form.
New singularity theorems are derived for generic warped-product spacetimes of any dimension. The main purpose is to analyze the stability of (compact or large) extra dimensions against dynamical perturbations. To that end, the base of the warped product is assumed to be our visible 4-dimensional world, while the extra dimensions define the fibers, hence we consider "extra-dimensional evolution". Explicit conditions on the warping function that lead to geodesic incompleteness are given. These conditions can be appropriately rewritten, given a warping function, as restrictions on the intrinsic g…
