Pseudocompact primitive topological inverse semigroups

In the paper we study pseudocompact primitive topological inverse semigroups. We describe the structure of pseudocompact primitive topological inverse semigroups and show that a Tychonoff product of a family of pseudocompact primitive topological inverse semigroups is a pseudocompact topological space. Also we prove that the Stone-Čech compactification of a pseudocompact primitive topological inverse semigroup is a compact primitive topological inverse semigroup.

Embedding the bicyclic semigroup into countably compact topological semigroups

We study algebraic and topological properties of topological semigroups containing a copy of the bicyclic semigroup C(p,q). We prove that each topological semigroup S with pseudocompact square contains no dense copy of C(p,q). On the other hand, we construct a (consistent) example of a pseudocompact (countably compact) Tychonov semigroup containing a copy of C(p,q).

Openly factorizable spaces and compact extensions of topological semigroups

We prove that the semigroup operation of a topological semigroup $S$ extends to a continuous semigroup operation on its the Stone-Čech compactification $βS$ provided $S$ is a pseudocompact openly factorizable space, which means that each map $f:S\to Y$ to a second countable space $Y$ can be written as the composition $f=g\circ p$ of an open map $p:X\to Z$ onto a second countable space $Z$ and a map $g:Z\to Y$. We present a spectral characterization of openly factorizable spaces and establish some properties of such spaces.

The Rees-Suschkewitsch Theorem for simple topological semigroups

We detect topological semigroups that are topological paragroups, i.e., are isomorphic to a Rees product of a topological group over topological spaces with a continuous sandwich function. We study the structure of inverse primitive feebly compact semitopological and topological semigroups. In the paper we study (countably) compact and (absolutely) $H$-closed primitive topological inverse semigroups. We describe the structure of compact and countably compact primitive topological inverse semigroups and show that any countably compact primitive topological inverse semigroup embeds into a compact primitive topological inverse semigroup.

Primitive inverse semigroups of left I-quotients

A subsemigroup $S$ of an inverse semigroup $Q$ is a left I-order in $Q$, if every element in $Q$ can be written as $a^{-1}b$ where $a, b \in S$ and $a^{-1}$ is the inverse of $a$ in the sense of inverse semigroup theory. Orbits of Primitive $k$-Homogenous Groups on $(n-k)$-Partitions with Applications to Semigroups

Let $X$ be a finite set such that $|X|=n$, and let $k< n/2$. A group is $k$-homogeneous if it has only one orbit on the sets of size $k$. The aim of this paper is to prove some general results on permutation groups and then apply them to transformation semigroups. Primitive groups, road closures, and idempotent generation

We are interested in semigroups of the form $\langle G,a\rangle\setminus G$, where $G$ is a permutation group of degree $n$ and $a$ a non-permutation on the domain of $G$. A theorem of the first author, Mitchell and Schneider shows that, if this semigroup is idempotent-generated for all possible choices of $a$, then $G$ is the symmetric or alternating group of degree $n$, with three exceptions (having $n=5$ or $n=6$). On Kiselman's semigroup

We study the algebraic properties of the series $\mathrm{K}_n$ of semigroups, which is inspired by \cite{Ki} and has origins in convexity theory. In particular, we describe Green's relations on $\mathrm{K}_n$, prove that there exists a faithful representation of $\mathrm{K}_n$ by $n\times n$ matrices with non-negative integer coefficients (and even explicitly construct such a representation), and prove that $\mathrm{K}_n$ does not admit a faithful representation by matrices of smaller size. A Groupoid Approach to Discrete Inverse Semigroup Algebras

Let $K$ be a commutative ring with unit and $S$ an inverse semigroup. We show that the semigroup algebra $KS$ can be described as a convolution algebra of functions on the universal étale groupoid associated to $S$ by Paterson. This result is a simultaneous generalization of the author's earlier work on finite inverse semigroups and Paterson's theorem for the universal $C^*$-algebra.
