The pairing mechanism in the iron pnictides remains unresolved yet. One of the central issues is the structure of the superconducting order parameter which classifies the community into two different and highly disputed camps. On one hand the picture of pairing based on the magnetic origin predicts a sign reversal gap on the electron and hole Fermi pockets, leading to the S+- pairing. On the other hand, a more conventional S++ pairing gap was suggested based on the phonon or orbital fluctuation mediated pairing. In the superconducting state, the impurities may generate a unique pattern of local density of states in space and energy, which are regarded as the fingerprints for checking the structure of the pairing gap. In this study, we successfully identified the non-magnetic and magnetic impurities in Na(Fe0.97-xCo0.03Tx)As (T=Cu, Mn) and investigated the spatial resolved scanning tunneling spectroscopy. We present clear evidence of the in-gap quasiparticle states induced by the nonmagnetic Cu impurities, giving decisive evidence of the S+- pairing. This is corroborated by the consistency between the experimental data and the first-principles calculations based on the S+- pairing gap with a scalar scattering potential.
Generalization of a disordered metal's theory has been proposed when scattering of quasiparticles by impurities is caused with a retarded interaction. It was shown that in this case Anderson's theorem was violated in the sense that embedding of the impurities in s-wave superconductor increases its critical temperature. The increasing depends on parameters of the metal, impurities and their concentration. At a specific relation between the parameters the critical temperature of the dirty superconductor can essentially exceed critical temperature of pure one up to room temperature. Thus the impu…
We theoretically study the effect of localized magnetic impurities on two-dimensional topological superconductor (TSC). We show that the local density of states (LDOS) can be tuned by the effective exchange field $m$, the chemical potential $μ$ of TSC, and the distance $Δr$ as well as relative spin angle $α$ between two impurities. The changes in $Δr$ between two impurities alter the interference and result in significant modifications to the bonding and antibonding states. Furthermore, the bound-state spin LDOS induced by single and double magnetic impurity scattering, the quantum corrals, an…
Magnetic impurities affect the spectrum of excitations of a superconductor and thus influence its impedance. We concentrate on the dissipative part of the surface impedance. We investigate its dependence on frequency, the density and strength of magnetic impurities, and the density and temperature of quasiparticles. Even a small concentration of weak magnetic impurities significantly modifies the excitation spectrum in the vicinity of the BCS gap. Therefore, we give special attention to the absorption threshold behavior at zero temperature and to the low-frequency absorption by quasiparticles.…
A perturbation theory and a diagram technique for a disordered metal are proposed when scattering of quasiparticles by nonmagnetic impurities is caused with a retarded interaction. The perturbation theory generalizes a case of the elastic scattering in a disordered metal. Eliashberg equations for s-wave superconductivity are generalized for such a disordered superconductor. Anderson's theorem is found to be violated in the sense that embedding of the impurities into a s-wave superconductor increases its critical temperature. We showed the amplification of superconducting properties is a result…
The recently observed properties of quasiparticle resonant states near impurities on the surface of superconducting BSCCO demonstrate that in-plane Andreev processes are either absent or phase-incoherent. Analysis of the spectral and spatial details of the electronic structure near a Zn impurity also suggest an effective magnetic component of the impurity potential. Further experiments are proposed to clarify whether the effective moments of nearby impurities are correlated.
We investigate magnetic properties of lightly doped antiferromagnetic Mott insulators in the presence of non-magnetic impurities. Within the framework of the t-J model we calculate the doping dependence of the antiferromagnetic order parameter using the self-consistent diagrammatic techniques. We show that in the presence of non-magnetic impurities the antiferromagnetic order is more robust against hole doping in comparison with the impurity-free host, implying that magnetic order can re-appear upon Zn doping into lightly hole-doped cuprates. We argue that this is primarily due to the loss of …
We consider the effect of magnetic impurities, modeled by classical spins, in a conventional superconductor. We study their effect on the quasiparticles, specifically on the spin density and local density of states (LDOS). As previously emphasized, the impurities induce multiple scatterings of the quasiparticle wave functions leading to complex interference phenomena. Also, the impurities induce quantum phase transitions in the many-body system. Previous authors studied the effect of either a small number of impurities (from one to three) or a finite concentration of impurities, typically in a…
The effect of out-of-plane impurities on the thermal Hall conductivity $κ_{xy}$ of in-plane marginal-Fermi-liquid (MFL) quasiparticles in high-$T_c$ cuprates is examined by following the work on electrical Hall conductivity $σ_{xy}$ by Varma and Abraham [Phys. Rev. Lett. 86, 4652 (2001)]. It is shown that the effective Lorentz force exerted by these impurities is a weak function of energies of the MFL quasiparticles, resulting in nearly the same temperature dependence of $κ_{xy}/T$ and $σ_{xy}$, indicative of obedience of the Wiedemann-Franz law. The inconsistency of the theoretical result wit…
The Cu substitution by Zn and Ni impurities and its influence on the mass renormalization effects in angle resolved photoelectron spectra (ARPES) of Bi-2212 is addressed. We show that the nonmagnetic Zn atoms have much stronger effect both in nodal and antinodal parts of the Brillouin zone than magnetic Ni. The observed changes are consistent with the behaviour of the spin resonance mode as seen by inelastic neutron scattering in YBCO. This strongly suggests that the "peak-dip-hump" and the "kink" in ARPES on the one side and neutron resonance on the other are closely related features.
The effects of magnetic vortices and nonmagnetic impurities on the low energy quasiparticle excitations and the spin-lattice relaxation rate are examined in the iron-based superconductors for the $s_{\pm}$-, $s$- and d-wave pairing symmetries, respectively. The main effect of the vortices is to enhance the quasiparticle excitations and the spin-lattice relaxation rate for all symmetries, and leads to a $T^{3}$ dependence of the relaxation rate followed by a nearly $T$-linearity at lower temperatures. This enhancement can only be seen for the $s_{\pm}$- and d-wave symmetries in the presence of …
Recently, a test for a sign-changing gap function in a candidate multiband unconventional superconductor involving quasiparticle interference data was proposed. The test was based on the antisymmetric, Fourier transformed conductance maps integrated over a range of momenta $\bf q$ corresponding to interband processes, which was argued to display a particular resonant form, provided the gaps changed sign between the Fermi surface sheets connected by $\bf q$. The calculation was performed for a single impurity, however, raising the question of how robust this measure is as a test of sign-changin…
The impurity is inherently manifest in cuprate superconductors, as cation substitution or intercalation is necessary for the introduction of charge carriers, and its influence on the electronic state is at the heart of a great debate in physics. Here based on the microscopic octet scattering model, the influence of the impurity scattering on the electronic structure of cuprate superconductors is investigated in terms of the self-consistent T-matrix approach. The impurity scattering self-energy is evaluated firstly in the Fermi-arc-tip approximation of the quasiparticle excitations and scatteri…
Scanning tunneling microscopy can provide a probe for the detailed study of quasiparticle states in high-Tc superconductors. We propose that it can also be used to acquire specific information about impurity-induced quasiparticle states and the superconducting order-parameter structure. In particular, the local density of states is found to be sensitive to impurity-induced resonances and to the symmetry of the order parameter.
Recent scanning tunneling experiments on $Ca_{2-x}Na_xCuO_2Cl_2$ by Hanaguri et al. observe field-dependent quasiparticle interference effects which are sensitive to the sign of the d-wave order parameter. Their analysis of spatial fluctuations in the local density of states shows that there is a selective enhancement of quasiparticle scattering events that preserve the gap sign, and a selective depression of the quasiparticle scattering events that reverse the gap sign. We introduce a model which accounts for this phenomenon as a consequence of vortex pinning to impurities. Each pinned vortex…
Scanning tunneling spectroscopy measurements of superconducting thin lanthanum films grown on a normal metal tungsten substrate reveal an extraordinarily large broadening of the coherence peaks. The observed broadening corresponds to very short electron-like quasiparticle lifetimes in the tunneling process. A thorough analysis considering the different relaxation processes reveals that the dominant mechanism is an efficient quasiparticle relaxation at the interface between the superconducting film and the underlying substrate. This process is of general relevance to scanning tunneling spectros…
Due to the node structure of the gap in a d-wave superconductor, the presence of impurities generates a finite density of quasiparticle excitations at zero temperature. Since these impurity-induced quasiparticles are both generated and scattered by impurities, prior calculations indicate a universal limit (Ω-> 0, T -> 0) where the transport coefficients obtain scattering-independent values, depending only on the velocity anisotropy v_f/v_2. We improve upon prior results, including the contributions of vertex corrections and Fermi liquid corrections in our calculations of universal limit electr…
Using a real-space renormalization group (RSRG) technique, we compute the microwave conductivity of a d-wave superconductor disordered by extended impurities. To do this, we invoke a semiclassical approximation which naturally accesses the Andreev bound states localized near each impurity. Tunneling corrections (which are captured using the RSRG) lead to a delocalization of these quasiparticles and an associated contribution to the microwave conductivity.
We present a method to identify distinct tunneling modes in tunable superconducting tunnel junction composed of superconducting tip and sample in scanning tunneling microscope. Combining the measurement of the relative decay constant of tunneling current extracted from I-V-z spectroscopy with its statistical analysis over the atomic disorders in the sample surface, we identified the crossover of tunneling modes between single quasiparticle tunneling, multiple Andreev reflection, and Josephson tunneling with respect to the bias voltage. The method enables one to determine the particular tunneli…
We use spatially resolved scanning tunneling spectroscopy in Na(Fe{1-x}Cox)As to investigate the impurity effect induced by Co dopants. The Co impurities are successfully identified, and the spatial distributions of local density of state at different energies around these impurities are investigated. It is found that the spectrum shows negligible spatial variation at different positions near the Co impurity, although there is a continuum of the in-gap states which lifts the zero-bias conductance to a finite value. Our results put constraints on the S+- and S++ models and sharpen the debate on…
A magnetic impurity in a fermionic superfluid hosts bound quasiparticle states known as Yu-Shiba-Rusinov (YSR) states. We argue here that, if the impurity is mobile (i.e., has a finite mass), the impurity and its bound YSR quasiparticle move together as a midgap molecule, which has an unusual "Mexican-hat" dispersion that is tunable via the fermion density. We map out the impurity dispersion, which consists of an "atomic" branch (in which the impurity is dressed by quasiparticle pairs) and a "molecular" branch (in which the impurity binds a quasiparticle). We discuss the experimental realizati…
The critical field for superfluid $^3$He in axially compressed, anisotropic silica aerogel is shown to be the result of an anisotropic distribution of magnetic impurities affecting the superfluid $A$ phase. The critical field results from the fact that the $A$ phase is suppressed relative to the $B$ phase which is immune to the effects of magnetic impurities. In the absence of magnetic quasiparticle scattering in anisotropic aerogel, we find that the relative symmetry of $A$ and $B$ phase order parameters is the same as in isotropic aerogel, just as it is in pure superfluid $^3$He. These resul…
We study the effect of magnetic Mn ions on the two-band superconductor MgB_2, and compute both the total and spin resolved scanning tunneling spectrum in the vicinity of the magnetic impurity. We show that when the internal structure of the Mn ion's $d$-shell is taken into account, multiple Shiba states appear in the spectrum. These multiplets were missed by previous calculations based on simplistic models, and their presence could alter significantly the overall interpretation of local tunneling spectra for a wide range of superconducting hosts and magnetic impurities
Qualitative differences in the spectrum of a superconductor near magnetic impurity pairs with moments aligned parallel and antiparallel are derived. A proposal is made for a new, nonmagnetic scanning tunneling spectroscopy of magnetic impurity interactions based on these differences. Near parallel impurity pairs the mid-gap localized spin-polarized states associated with each impurity hybridize and form bonding and anti-bonding molecular states with different energies. For antiparallel impurity moments the states do not hybridize; they are degenerate.
We systematically calculate quasiparticle interference (QPI) signatures for the whole phase diagram of iron-based superconductors. Impurities inherent in the sample together with ordered phases lead to distinct features in the QPI images that are believed to be measured in spectroscopic imaging-scanning tunneling microscopy (SI-STM). In the spin-density wave phase the rotational symmetry of the electronic structure is broken, signatures of which are also seen in the coexistence regime with both superconducting and magnetic order. In the superconducting regime we show how the different scatteri…
Effects of impurities and disorder on quasiparticle spectrum in superconducting iron pnictides are considered. Possibility for occurrence of localized energy levels due to impurities within the superconducting gap and the related modification of band structure and of superconducting order parameter are discussed. The evolution of superconducting state with impurity doping is traced.
Topological superconductors, such as noncentrosymmetric superconductors with strong spin-orbit coupling, exhibit protected zero-energy surface states, which possess an intricate helical spin structure. We show that this nontrival spin character of the surface states can be tested experimentally from the absence of certain backscattering processes in Fourier-transform scanning tunneling measurements. A detailed theoretical analysis is given of the quasiparticle scattering interference on the surface of both nodal and fully gapped topological superconductors with different crystal point-group sy…
We study the effect of magnetic Mn ions on the two-band superconductor MgB_2, and compute both the total and spin resolved scanning tunneling spectrum in the vicinity of the magnetic impurity. We show that when the internal structure of the Mn ion's d-shell is taken into account, multiple Shiba states appear in the spectrum. The presence of these multiplets could alter significantly the overall interpretation of local tunneling spectra for a wide range of superconducting hosts and magnetic impurities.
We theoretically study the dependence of the quasiparticle (QP) scattering rate $\varGamma$ on the uniaxial anisotropy of a Fermi surface with changing the magnetic field angle $α_{\rm M}$. We consider the QP scattering due to the non-magnetic impurities inside a single vortex core. The field-angle dependence of the quasiparticle scattering rate $\varGamma(α_{\rm M})$ is sensitive to the sign-change of the pair potential. We show that with increasing the two dimensionality of the system, $\varGamma(α_{\rm M})$ reflects more clearly whether there is the sign-change in the pair potential.
We calculate self-consistently the local density of states (LDOS) of a d-wave superconductor considering the scattering of the quasiparticles off randomly distributed impurities and off externally induced vortices. The impurities and the vortices are randomly distributed but the vortices are preferably located near the impurities. The increase of either the impurity repulsive potential or the mpurity density only affects the density of states (DOS) slightly. The dominant effect is due to the vortex scattering. The results for the LDOS agree qualitatively with experimental results considering t…
Within the framework of the kinetic energy driven superconducting mechanism, the effect of the extended impurity scatterers on the quasiparticle transport of cuprate superconductors in the superconducting state is studied based on the nodal approximation of the quasiparticle excitations and scattering processes. It is shown that there is a cusplike shape of the energy dependent microwave conductivity spectrum. At low temperatures, the microwave conductivity increases linearly with increasing temperatures, and reaches a maximum at intermediate temperature, then decreases with increasing tempera…
Single-layer FeSe film on SrTiO3(001) was recently found to be the champion of interfacial superconducting systems, with a much enhanced superconductivity than the bulk iron-based superconductors. Its superconducting mechanism is of great interest. Although the film has a simple Fermi surface topology, its pairing symmetry is unsettled. Here by using low-temperature scanning tunneling microscopy (STM), we systematically investigated the superconductivity of single-layer FeSe/SrTiO3(001) films. We observed fully gapped tunneling spectrum and magnetic vortex lattice in the film. Quasi-particle i…
We employ a five-orbital tight-binding model to develop the mean field solution for various possible spin density wave states in the iron-chalcogenides. The quasiparticle interference (QPI) technique is applied to detect signatures of these states due to scatterings arising from non-magnetic impurities. Apart from the experimentally observed double striped structure with ordering vector $(π/2,π/2)$, the QPI method is investigated for the extended-stripe as well as the orthogonal double stripe phase. We discuss QPI as a possible tool to detect and classify various magnetic structures with diffe…
The Kondo effects of an Anderson impurity embedded into a d-wave superconductor is studied. Within the slave-boson mean-field approach, the derived Bogoliubov-de Gennes equations are solved via exact diagonalization. We show that a critical coupling strength, above which the Kondo effect takes place, exists regardless of whether the band particle-hole symmetry is present or not. The resonant quasiparticle peaks are found in the local density of states (LDOS) both directly at the impurity and around its neighbors, which is in sharp contrast to the case of nonmagnetic unitary impurities, where t…
A growing body of literature suggests that odd-frequency superconducting pair amplitudes can be generated in normal metal-superconductor junctions. The emergence of odd-frequency pairing in these systems is often attributed to the breaking of translation invariance. In this work, we study the pair symmetry of a one-dimensional $s$-wave superconductor in the presence of a single non-magnetic impurity and demonstrate that translation symmetry breaking is not sufficient for inducing odd-frequency pairing. We consider three kinds of impurities: a local perturbation of the chemical potential, an im…
We use scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) to study magnetic Fe impurities intentionally doped into the high-temperature superconductor Bi$_{2}$Sr$_{2}$Ca$_{2}$CuO$_{8+δ}$. Our spectroscopic measurements reveal that Fe impurities introduce low-lying resonances in the density of states at Ω$_{1}$ $\approx$ 4meV and Ω$_{2}$ $\approx$ 15 meV allowing us to determine that, despite having a large magnetic moment, potential scattering of quasiparticles by Fe impurities dominates magnetic scattering. In addition, using high-resolution spatial characterizations of the local density of states near and …
We study the effect of impurities in superconducting graphene and discuss their influence on the local electronic properties. In particular, we consider the case of magnetic and non-magnetic impurities being either strongly localized or acting as a potential averaged over one unit cell. The spin dependent local density of states is calculated and possibilities for visualizing impurities by means of scanning tunneling experiments is pointed out. A possibility of identifying magnetic scatters even by non spin-polarized scanning tunneling spectroscopy is explained.
The long disputed issue of the limiting value of quasiparticle density of states $\r(0) = \r (\e \to 0)$ in a \emph{d-}wave superconductor with impurities (\emph{vs} its linear vanishing, $\r_0(\e) \propto |\e|/\D$, near the nodal point $\e = 0$ in a pure system with the gap parameter $\D$) is discussed. Using the technique of group expansions of Green functions in complexes of interacting impurities, it is shown that finite $\r(0)$ value is possible if the (finite) impurity perturbation $V$ is spin-dependent (magnetic). The found value has a power law dependence on the impurity concentration …
Based on a phenomenological model with $s_{\pm}$ or s-wave pairing symmetry, the mixed-state effect on quasiparticle interference in iron-based superconductors is investigated by solving large-scale Bogoliubov-de Gennes equations based on the Chebyshev polynomial expansion. Taking into account the presence of magnetic field, our result for the $s_{\pm}$ pairing is in qualitative agreement with recent scanning tunneling microscopy experiment while for the s-wave pairing, the result is in apparent contradiction with experimental observations, thus excluding the s-wave pairing. Furthermore, we tr…
In conventional superconductors, magnetic impurities form an impurity band due to quantum interference of the impurity bound states, leading to suppression of the superconducting transition temperature. Such quantum interference effects can also be expected in d-wave superconductors. Here, we use scanning tunneling microscopy to investigate the effect of multiple non-magnetic impurities on the local electronic structure of the high-temperature superconductor Bi$_{2}$Sr$_{2}$Ca(Cu$_{1-x}$Zn$_{x}$)$_{2}$O$_{8+δ}$. We find several fingerprints of quantum interference of the impurity bound states …
It is shown that the local density of states (LDOS), measured in an Scanning Tunneling Microscopy (STM) experiment, at a single tip position contains oscillations as a function of Energy, due to quasiparticle interference, which is related to the positions of nearby scatterers. We propose a method of STM data analysis based on this idea, which can be used to locate the scatterers. In the case of a superconductor, the method can potentially distinguish the nature of the scattering by a particular impurity.
We theoretically investigate the quasiparticle scattering rate $\varGamma$ inside a vortex core in the existence of non-magnetic impurities distributed randomly in a superconductor. We show that the dependence of $\varGamma$ on the magnetic field direction is sensitive to the sign of the pair potential. The behavior of $\varGamma$ is quite different between an s-wave and a d-wave pair potential, where these are assumed to have the same amplitude anisotropy, but a sign change only for the d-wave one. It is suggested that measurements of the microwave surface impedance with changing applied-fiel…
We present a detailed quantitative comparison between theoretical calculations of the local density of states and recent experimental measurements of scanning tunneling spectra around Ni impurities in BSCCO(2212). A double-peak structure on the hole side of the spectrum at the Ni site is identified as the spin-split van Hove singularity in the band structure. The Ni atom induces local changes in hopping matrix elements comparable in size to the induced on-site spin-dependent potential. We find evidence from the measurements of order parameter suppression in the vicinity of the Ni impurity. The…
We study the density of states (DOS) in diffusive superconductors with pointlike magnetic impurities of arbitrary strength described by the Poissonian statistics. The mean-field theory predicts a nontrivial structure of the DOS with the continuum of quasiparticle states and (possibly) the impurity band. In this approximation, all the spectral edges are hard, marking distinct boundaries between spectral regions of finite and zero DOS. Considering instantons in the replica sigma-model technique, we calculate the average DOS beyond the mean-field level and determine the smearing of the spectral e…
Both impurity- and magnetic-field-induced quasiparticle states in chiral $p$-wave superconductors are investigated theoretically by solving the Bogoliubov--de Gennes equations self-consistently. At the strong scattering limit, we find that a universal state bound to the impurity can be induced for both a single nonmagnetic impurity and a single magnetic impurity. Furthermore, we find that different chiral order parameters and the corresponding supercurrents have uniform distributions around linear impurities. Calculations of the local density of states in the presence of an external magnetic f…
Scanning tunneling spectroscopy was performed on single crystals of superconducting 2H-NbSe2, at 300 mK and in a magnetic field, up to 5 T, applied parallel to the ab-plane. This novel field geometry allows the quasiparticle density-of-states spectrum to be measured under finite superfluid momentum, while avoiding contributions from the vortex-core bound states. At zero field, we observed a fully-gapped conductance spectrum with both gap-edge peaks and sub-gap kinks. These spectral features show a systematic evolution with the applied field: the kinks close in while the peaks move apart in low…
We apply a recently developed method combining first principles based Wannier functions with solutions to the Bogoliubov-de Gennes equations to the problem of interpreting STM data in cuprate superconductors. We show that the observed images of Zn on the surface of Bi$_2$Sr$_2$CaCu$_2$O$_8$ can only be understood by accounting for the tails of the Cu Wannier functions, which include significant weight on apical O sites in neighboring unit cells. This calculation thus puts earlier crude "filter" theories on a microscopic foundation and solves a long standing puzzle. We then study quasiparticle …
We show that quasiparticle interference (QPI) due to omnipresent weak impurities and probed by Fourier transform scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy acts as a direct experimental probe of bulk odd-frequency superconducting pairing. Taking the example of a conventional $s$-wave superconductor under applied magnetic field, we show that the nature of the QPI peaks can only be characterized by including the odd-frequency pairing correlations generated in this system. In particular, we identify that the defining feature of odd-frequency pairing gives rise to a bias asymmetry in the QPI, …
The issue of probing the pseudogap regime of the cuprate superconductors, specifically with regard to the existence and nature of superconducting pairing correlations of d-wave symmetry, is explored theoretically. It is shown that if the d-wave correlations believed to describe the superconducting state persist into the pseudogap regime, but with pair-potential phase-fluctuations that destroy their long-range nature, then the low-energy quasiparticle states observed near extended impurities in the truly superconducting state should also persist as resonances in the pseudogap regime. The scatte…
Using both two orbital and five orbital models, we investigate the quasiparticle interference (QPI) patterns in the superconducting (SC) state of iron-based superconductors. We compare the results for nonmagnetic and magnetic impurities in sign-changed s-wave $\cos(k_x)\cdot\cos(k_y)$ and sign-unchanged $|\cos(k_x)\cdot\cos(k_y)|$ SC states. While the patterns strongly depend on the chosen band structures, the sensitivity of peaks around $(\pmπ,0)$ and $(0,\pmπ)$ wavevectors on magnetic or non-magnetic impurity, and sign change or sign unchanged SC orders is common in two models. Our results s…
We develop a model for the effect of a magnetic field on quasiparticle interference in an iron-based superconductor. Recently, scanning tunneling experiments have been performed on Fe(Se,Te) to determine the relative sign of the superconducting gap from the magnetic-field dependence of quasiparticle scattering amplitudes. Using a simple two-band BCS model, we study three different cases of scattering in a spin-split spectrum. The dominant effect of a magnetic field in iron-based superconductors is caused by the Pauli limiting of conduction electrons. Thereby time reversal odd scattering is ind…
Quasiparticle interference in a d-wave superconductor with weak disorder produces distinctive peaks in the Fourier-transformed local density of states measured by scanning tunneling spectroscopy. We predict that amplitudes of these peaks can be enhanced or suppressed by applied magnetic field according to a very specific pattern governed by the symmetry of the superconducting order parameter. This calculated pattern agrees with the recent experimental measurement and suggests that the technique could be useful for probing the underlying normal state at high fields.
The Fourier-transform scanning tunneling spectroscopy (FTSTS) contains rich signals related to the quasiparticle scattering interference and/or the density-wave-like orders which are crucial in interpretation of the ground states and the phase transitions in quasi-2D strongly correlated electron systems such as cuprate and pnictide high-Tc superconductors. The octet model has been used to describe the FTSTS data according to the simplified banana band model of cuprates in superconducting ground state and worked well deep inside the superconducting dome, but away from the superconducting ground…
The diagrammatic approach is applied to study quasiparticle transport properties in two-dimensional d-wave superconductors with dilute nonmagnetic impurities both in Born and in unitary limits. It is found that a novel quantum interference process gives rise to a weak-antilocalization correction to the spin conductivity, indicating the existence of extended low-energy quasiparticle states. With comimg close to unitarity and the nesting, this correction is suppressed and eventually vanishes due to the global particle-hole symmetry.
