The EMC effect is studied by using the GLR-MQ-ZSR equation with minimum number of free parameters, where the nuclear shadowing effect is a dynamical evolution result of the equation, and nucleon swelling and Fermi motion in the nuclear environment deform the input parton distributions. Parton distributions of both proton and nucleus are predicted in a unified framework. We show that the parton recombination as a higher twist correction plays an essential role in the evolution of parton distributions either of proton or nucleus. We find that the nuclear antishadowing contributes a part of enhancement of the ratio of the structure functions around $x\sim 0.1$, while the other part origins from the deformation of the nuclear valence quark distributions. We point out that the nuclear shadowing and antishadowing effects in the gluon distribution are not stronger than that in the quark distributions.
The evolution of the EMC effect as a function of atomic mass $A$ is considered for the first time for the lightest nuclei, D, $^3H$, $^3He$ and $^4He$, with an approach based on the Bethe-Salpeter formalism. We show that the pattern of the oscillation of the ratio $r^A(x) = F_2^A/F_2^N(D)$ varies with $A$, unlike the pattern for nuclei with masses $A > 4$, where only the amplitude of the oscillation changes.
The EMC- and Cronin-effects are explained by a unitarized evolution equation, where the shadowing and antishadowing corrections are dynamically produced by gluon fusions. For this sake, an alternative form of the GLR-MQ-ZRS equation is derived. The resulting integrated and unintegrated gluon distributions in proton and nuclei are used to analyze the contributions of the initial parton distributions to the nuclear suppression factor in heavy ion collisions. A simulation of the fractional energy loss is extracted from the RHIC and LHC data, where the contributions of the nuclear shadowing and an…
The quark exchange model (QEM) is reformulated for the $A=12$ and $14$ systems to obtain the constituent quark distributions of $^{12}C$ and $^{14}N$ nuclei, respectively. Afterwards, the different types of the point-like parton distribution functions (PDFs), i.e., the valence quarks, the sea quarks and the gluons, are extracted from the constituent quark model (CQM), at the hadronic scale $Q_0^2=0.34$ $GeV^2$ to generate the constituent quark exchange model (CQEM = QEM $\oplus$ CQM) PDFs. From the resulted PDFs, the structure functions and the European Muon Collaboration (EMC) ratios of the a…
In this article, using Laplace transformation , an analytical solution is obtained for the DGLAP evolution equation at the next-to-leading order of perturbative QCD. The technique is also employed to extract, in the Laplace $s$-space, an analytical solution for the nuclear structure function, $F_2^A(x, Q^2)$. Firstly, the results for separate nuclear parton distributions for all parton types are presented which include valence quark densities, the anti-quark and strange sea PDFs and finally the gluon distribution. Based on the Laplace transformation, the obtained parton distribution functions …
We determine running coupling corrections to the kernel of the non-linear evolution equation for the cross section of single diffractive dissociation in high energy DIS. The running coupling kernel for diffractive evolution is found to be exactly the same as the kernel of the rcBK evolution equation.
We investigate dijet production from proton-nucleus collisions at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) as a means for observing superfast quarks in nuclei with Bjorken $x>1$. Kinematically, superfast quarks can be identified through directly measurable jet kinematics. Dynamically, their description requires understanding several elusive properties of nuclear QCD, such as nuclear forces at very short distances, as well as medium modification of parton distributions in nuclei. In the present work, we develop a model for nuclear parton distributions at large $x$ in which the nuclear dynamics at short …
Density perturbations and their dynamic evolution from early to late times can be used for an improved understanding of interesting physical phenomena both in cosmology and in the context of heavy-ion collisions. We discuss the spectrum and bispectrum of these perturbations around a longitudinally expanding fireball after a heavy-ion collision. The time-evolution equations couple the spectrum and bispectrum to each other, as well as to higher-order correlation functions through nonlinear terms. A non-trivial bispectrum is thus always generated, even if absent initially. For initial conditions …
We give a brief overview of nuclear parton distributions. First, the EMC effect is discussed together with possible interpretations such as nuclear binding and $Q^2$ rescaling. Next, we explain shadowing descriptions: vector-meson-dominance-type and parton-recombination models. Nuclear dependence of $Q^2$ evolution should be interesting in testing whether or not DGLAP equations could be applied to nuclear structure functions. Status of nuclear sea-quark and gluon distributions is discussed. The structure function $b_1$, which will be measured at HERMES and possibly at ELFE, could shed light on…
We investigate numerical solution of Dokshitzer-Gribov-Lipatov-Altarelli-Parisi (DGLAP) Q^2 evolution equations for longitudinally polarized structure functions. Flavor nonsinglet and singlet equations with next-to-leading-order $α_s$ corrections are studied. A brute-force method is employed. Dividing the variables x and Q^2 into small steps, we simply solve the integrodifferential equations. Numerical results indicate that accuracy is better than 1% in the region 10^{-5}<x<0.8 if more than two-hundred Q^2 steps and more than one-thousand x steps are taken. Our evolution results are compared w…
We investigate numerical solution of $Q^2$ evolution equations for structure functions in the nucleon and in nuclei. (Dokshitzer-Gribov-Lipatov-)Altarelli-Parisi and Mueller-Qiu evolution equations are solved in a brute-force method. Spin-independent flavor-nonsinglet and singlet equations with next-to-leading-order $α_s$ corrections are studied. Dividing the variables $x$ and $Q^2$ into small steps, we simply solve the integrodifferential equations. Numerical results indicate that accuracy is better than 2\% in the region $10^{-4}<x<0.8$ if more than two-hundred $Q^2$ steps and more than one-…
In this talk the results of the analytical and numerical analysis of the nonlinear Balitsky-Kovchegov equation are presented. The characteristic BFKL diffusion into infrared regime is suppressed by the generation of the saturation scale. We identify the scaling and linear regimes for the solution. We also study the impact of subleading corrections onto the nonlinear evolution.
Nonlinear evolution equation at small x with impact parameter dependence is analyzed numerically. Saturation scales and the radius of expansion in impact parameter are extracted as functions of rapidity. Running coupling is included in this evolution, and it is found that the solution is sensitive to the infrared regularization. Kinematical effects beyond leading logarithmic approximation are taken partially into account by modifying the kernel which includes the rapidity dependent cuts. While the local nonlinear evolution is not very sensitive to these effects, the kinematical constraints can…
The following lectures are an introduction to the phenomena of partonic saturation and nonlinear evolution equations in Quantum Chromodynamics. After a short introduction to the linear evolution, the problems of unitarity bound and parton saturation are discussed. The nonlinear Balitsky-Kovchegov evolution equation in the high energy limit is introduced, and the progress towards the understanding of the properties of its solution is reviewed. We discuss the concepts of the saturation scale, geometrical scaling and the lack of the infrared diffusion. Finally, we give a brief summary of current …
We apply our solution of the nonlinear evolution equation to the case of $J/ψ$ photo and DIS production on nucleons and nuclei targets. The uncertainty in the $J/ψ$ wave function normalization due to Fermi motion is treated as a free parameter. We obtain good reproduction of the HERA experimental data on a proton target. Calculations of $J/ψ$ mesons coherent production on nuclei targets are presented and discussed. Our analysis supports the conclusions reached in our previous studies, stressing the importance of nonlinear evolution in the kinematical domain of high-density QCD.
We consider the perturbative description of saturation based on the nonlinear QCD evolution equation of Balitsky and Kovchegov (BK). Although the nonlinear corrections lead to saturation of the scattering amplitude locally in impact parameter space, we show that they do not unitarize the total cross section. The total cross section for the scattering of a strongly interacting probe on a hadronic target is found to grow exponentially with rapidity. The origin of this violation of unitarity is the presence of long range Coulomb fields away from the saturation region. The growth of these fields w…
We consider deeply inelastic scattering at very high energies in the saturation regime. The emerging picture corresponds to the propagation of a dipole, the quark-antiquark pair, in a shock wave color field of the target. We use the fomalism of Wilson lines to study the evolution of dipole densities in energy logarithms. Our analysis results into an equation in multicolor limit which sums leading logs but keeps the nonlinearities up to cubic order in densities.
In asymmetric heavy ion collisions like dA or pA, particle production yields are different in the forward (d- or p-side) and backward (A-side) rapidity directions. The rapidity distribution reflects the geometry and phase-space distribution of nuclear matter. These properties may depend on the time evolution of the collision. Due to the smallness of the backward-forward differences, the rapidity asymmetry factor can be useful to quantify nuclear modification effects, like e.g. shadowing and the EMC effect. Our work is a survey of the nuclear modification factor and the rapidity asymmetries at …
The corrections of gluon fusion to the DGLAP and BFKL equations are discussed in a united partonic framework. The resulting nonlinear evolution equations are the well-known GLR-MQ-ZRS equation and a new evolution equation. Using the available saturation models as input, we find that the new evolution equation has the chaos solution with positive Lyaponov exponents in the perturbative range. We predict a new kind of shadowing caused by chaos, which blocks the QCD evolution in a critical small $x$ range. The blocking effect in the evolution equation may explain the Abelian gluon assumption and e…
We analyze the relation between evolution equations at low x that have been derived in different approaches in the last several years. We show that the equation derived by Balitsky and Kovchegov is obtained from the Jalilian-Marian-Kovner-Leonidov-Weigert (JKLW) equation in the limit of small induced charge density. We argue that the higher nonlinearities resummed by the JKLW equation correspond, in physical terms, to the breakdown of the eikonal approximation when the gluon fields in the target are large.
The nonlinear evolution equation for the scattering amplitude of colour dipole off the heavy nucleus is solved in the double logarithmic approximation. It is found that if the initial parton density in a nucleus is smaller then some critical value, then the scattering amplitude is a function of one scaling variable inside the saturation region, whereas if it is greater then the critical value, then the scaling behaviour breaks down. Dependence of the saturation scale on the number of nucleons is discussed as well.
In this paper we have solved the nonlinear Gribov-Levin-Ryskin-Mueller-Qiu (GLR-MQ) evolution equation for gluon distribution function G(x,Q^2) and studied the effects of the nonlinear GLR-MQ corrections to the Leading Order (LO) Dokshitzer-Gribov-Lipatov-Altarelli-Parisi (DGLAP) evolution equations. Here we incorporate a Regge like behaviour of gluon distribution function to obtain the solution of GLR-MQ evolution equation. We have also investigated the Q^2-dependence of gluon distribution function from the solution of GLR-MQ evolution equation. Moreover it is interesting to observe from our …
In this talk I briefly present recent developments in the theory of the Color Glass Condensate. The duality between the dense and dilute regimes of the gluon field is discussed as well as the effective selfdual Hamiltonian which includes both Pomeron merging and Pomeron splitting.
The 1/Nc expansion is formulated for the baryon wave function in terms of a specially constructed generating functional. The leading order of this 1/Nc expansion is universal for all low-lying baryons [including the O(1/Nc) and O(Nc^0) excited resonances] and for baryon-meson scattering states. A nonlinear evolution equation of Hamilton-Jacobi type is derived for the generating functional describing the baryon distribution amplitude in the large-Nc limit. In the asymptotic regime this nonlinear equation is solved analytically. The anomalous dimensions of the leading-twist baryon operators diag…
