We fit finite-temperature path integral Monte Carlo calculations of the exchange-correlation energy of the 3D finite-temperature homogeneous electron gas in the warm-dense regime (r_{s} = (3/4πn)^{1/3} a_{B}^{-1} < 40 and Θ= T/T_{F} > 0.0625). In doing so, we construct a Padé approximant which collapses to Debye-Hückel theory in the high-temperature, low-density limit. Likewise, the zero-temperature limit matches the numerical results of ground-state quantum Monte Carlo, as well as analytical results in the high-density limit.
Physically valid and numerically efficient approximations for the exchange and correlation energy are critical for reduced density-matrix functional theory to become a widely used method in electronic structure calculations. Here we examine the physical limits of power functionals of the form $f(n,n')=(n n')^α$ for the scaling function in the exchange-correlation energy. To this end we obtain numerically the minimizing momentum distributions for the three- and two-dimensional homogeneous electron gas, respectively. In particular, we examine the limiting values for the power $α$ to yield physic…
The homogeneous electron gas is one of the most studied model systems in condensed matter physics. It is also at the basis of the large majority of approximations to the functionals of density functional theory. As such, its exchange-correlation energy has been extensively studied, and is well-known for systems of 1, 2, and 3 dimensions. Here, we extend this model and compute the exchange and correlation energy, as a function of the Wigner-Seitz radius $r_s$, for arbitrary dimension $D$. We find a very different behavior for reduced dimensional spaces ($D=1$ and 2), our three dimensional space…
Tenth-order high-temperature expansion for the susceptibility and the specific heat of spin-s Heisenberg models with arbitrary exchange patterns: Application to pyrochlore and kagome magnets
We demonstrate how electric fields with arbitrary time profile can be used to control the time-dependent parameters of spin and orbital exchange Hamiltonians. Analytic expressions for the exchange constants are derived from a time-dependent Schrieffer-Wolff transformation, and the validity of the resulting effective Hamiltonian is verified for the case of a quarter-filled two-orbital Hubbard model, by comparing to the results of a full nonequilibrium dynamical mean-field theory simulation. The ability to manipulate Hamiltonians with arbitrary time-dependent fields, beyond the paradigm of Floqu…
