Maser lines of OH, H2 O, and SiO are commonly observed in O-rich AGB stars, but their presence after the end of the Asymptotic Giant Branch (AGB) phase is linked to non-spherical mass-loss processes. IRAS 15452-5459 is a post-AGB star with an hourglass nebula whose maser lines are quite peculiar. We observed all of the three maser species with the Australia Telescope Compact Array with angular resolutions of 6'' , 0.6'' , 0.3'' , and 1.7'' at 18 cm, 13 mm, 7 mm, and 3 mm, respectively. While double peaks are routinely seen in OH and water masers and interpreted as due to expanding envelopes, only very few sources display SiO lines with a similar spectral profile. Our observations confirm the detection of the double peak of SiO at 86 GHz; the same spectral shape is seen in the lower-J maser at 43 GHz. A double peak is also detected in the water line, which covers the same velocity range as the SiO masers. Thermally excited lines of SiO are detected at 7 and 3 mm and span the same velocity range as the maser lines of this species. Although observations at higher angular resolution are desirable to further investigate the spatial distributions of the maser spots, the current data allow us to conclude that the SiO masers are distributed in an hourglass shape and are likely due to the sputtering of dust grains caused by shock propagation. The complex OH profile would instead be due to emission from the fast outflow and an orthogonal structure.
Aims: Previous observations of the young massive star formation region IRAS 19410+2336 have revealed strong outflow activity with several interacting outflows. We aim to get a better understanding of the outflow activity in this region by observing the SiO and H$^{13}$CO$^+$ emission with high angular resolution. SiO is known to trace shocked gas, which is often associated with young energetic outflows. With the H$^{13}$CO$^+$ data, we intend to better understand the distribution of the quiescent gaseous component of the region. Methods: The SiO observations in the J=2-1 v=0 transition and H$^…
Context: Jets and outflows are key ingredients in the formation of stars across the mass spectrum. In clustered regions, understanding powering sources and outflow components poses a significant problem. Aims: To understand the dynamics in the outflow(s) from a cluster in the process of forming massive stars. Methods: We use new VLA observations of the molecular gas (SiO, CS, OCS and \molec) in the massive star forming region IRAS 17233-3606 which contains a number of HII regions. We compare these observations to previously published molecular data for this source in order to get a holistic vi…
The IRAS source, 19312+1950, exhibits SiO maser emission, which is predominantly detected in evolved stars enshrouded by a cold molecular envelope. In fact, the mojority of the observational properties of IRAS 19312+1950 is consistent with the nature of an asymptotic giant branch (AGB) star or post-AGB star. Interestingly, however, some of the observational properties cannot be readily explained within the standard scheme of stellar evolution, and those are rather reminiscent of young stellar objects. In the present research we considered the evolutionary status of IRAS 19312+1950 as revealed …
There is evidence that the star formation process is linked to the intricate net of filaments in molecular clouds, which may be also due to gas compression from external triggers. We studied the southern region of the Perseus NGC 1333 molecular cloud, known to be heavily shaped by similar external triggers, to shed light on the process that perturbed the filament where the Class 0 IRAS4 protostars lie. We use new IRAM-NOEMA observations of SiO and CH3OH, both known to trace violent events as shocks, toward IRAS 4A as part of the Large Program Seeds Of Life in Space (SOLIS). We detected three p…
We report interferometric mapping of the bipolar pre-planetary nebula IRAS 08005-2356 with an angular-resolution of ~1"-5", using the Submillimeter Array (SMA), in the 12CO J=2-1, 3-2, 13CO J=2-1 and SiO J=5-4 (v=0) lines. Single-dish observations, using the SMT 10-m, were made in these lines as well as in the CO J=4-3 and SiO J-6-5 (v=0) lines. The lines profiles are very broad, showing the presence of a massive (>0.1 Msun), extreme high-velocity outflow (V~200 km/s) directed along the nebular symmetry axis derived from the HST imaging of this object. The outflow's scalar momentum far exceeds…
We report the result of a systematic methanol observation toward IRAS 19312+1950. The properties of the SiO, H2O and OH masers of this object are consistent with those of mass-losing evolved stars, but some other properties are difficult to explain in the standard scheme of stellar evolution in its late stage. Interestingly, a tentative detection of radio methanol lines was suggested toward this object by a previous observation. To date, there are no confirmed detections of methanol emission towards evolved stars, so investigation of this possible detection is important to better understand th…
We detail interferometric observations of 44GHz class I methanol masers detected by MALT-45 (a 7mm unbiased auto-correlated spectral-line Galactic-plane survey) using the Australia Telescope Compact Array. We detect 238 maser spots across 77 maser sites. Using high-resolution positions, we compare the class I CH$_3$OH masers to other star formation maser species, including CS (1-0), SiO $v=0$ and the H53$α$ radio-recombination line. Comparison between the cross- and auto-correlated data has allowed us to also identify quasi-thermal emission in the 44GHz class I methanol maser line. We find tha…
We present results of 3 mm observations of SiO maser sources in the Galactic Centre (GC) from observations with the Australia Telescope Compact Array between $2010-2014$, along the transitions of the SiO molecule at $v = 1, J = 2-1$ at 86.243 GHz and $v = 2, J = 2-1$ at 85.640 GHz. We also present the results of the 3 mm observations with Atacama Large Millimeter/Submillimeter Array (ALMA). We detected 5 maser sources from the ATCA data, IRS 7, IRS 9, IRS 10EE, IRS 12N, and IRS 28; and 20 sources from the ALMA data including 4 new sources. These sources are predominantly late-type giants or em…
We have observed the very low-mass Class 0 protostar IRAS 15398-3359 at scales ranging from 50 au to 1800 au, as part of the ALMA Large Program FAUST. We uncover a linear feature, visible in H2CO, SO, and C18O line emission, which extends from the source along a direction almost perpendicular to the known active outflow. Molecular line emission from H2CO, SO, SiO, and CH3OH further reveals an arc-like structure connected to the outer end of the linear feature and separated from the protostar, IRAS 15398-3359, by 1200 au. The arc-like structure is blue-shifted with respect to the systemic veloc…
In this paper we present Combined Array for Research in Millimeter-wave Astronomy (CARMA) 3.5 mm observations and SubMillimeter Array (SMA) 870 microns observations toward the high-mass star-forming region IRAS 1816-2048, the core of the HH 80/81/80N system. Molecular emission from HCN, HCO+ and SiO is tracing two molecular outflows (the so-called Northeast and Northwest outflows). These outflows have their origin in a region close to the position of MM2, a millimeter source known to harbor a couple protostars. We estimate for the first time the physical characteristics of these molecular outf…
We report the results of Australia Telescope Compact Array (ATCA) observations of the Westerlund~1 (Wd1) region in the SiO v=1, J=1-0 and H2O 6(16)-5(23) maser lines, and we also report the analysis of maser properties of red supergiants (RSGs) associated with 6 massive clusters including Wd1. The primary purpose of this research is to explore possibilities of using maser emission for investigating the nature of massive clusters and associated RSGs. The SiO v=1, J=1-0 and H2O 6(16)-5(23) maser lines are detected toward 2 of 4 known RSGs in Wd1. The large velocity ranges of maser emission are c…
We present 43 GHz VLA spectra for 51 AGB sources with the goal of verifying an infrared (IR) color cut intended to separate Carbon-rich (C) and Oxygen-rich (O) AGB sources throughout the Galaxy. The color cut is a simple line in the $[K_s]-[A]$ versus $[A]-[E]$ color-color diagram based on 2MASS and MSX photometry, and was originally derived from SiO detection rates in the Bulge Asymmetries and Dynamical Evolution (BAaDE) sample. The division is fully supported by the spectra presented here, which show that SiO maser detections lie on the O-rich side, and SiO nondetections and a single HC$_3$N…
$Aims.$ We study the relation between the jet and the outflow in the IRAS 04166+2706 protostar. This Taurus protostar drives a molecular jet that contains multiple emission peaks symmetrically located from the central source. The protostar also drives a wide-angle outflow consisting of two conical shells. $Methods.$ We have used the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) interferometer to observe two fields along the IRAS 04166+2706 jet. The fields were centered on a pair of emission peaks that correspond to the same ejection event, and were observed in CO(2-1), SiO(5-4), and SO(6…
Context. IRAS 19312+1950 is an isolated infrared source that exhibits a characteristic quasi-point-symmetric morphology in the near- and mid-infrared images and is also very bright in molecular radio lines. Because of its unique observational characteristics, various observational studies have been conducted and several hypotheses have been proposed regarding its origin, which is still unclear. So far, it has been suggested that it could be a peculiar evolved star, a young stellar object, or even a red nova remnant. Regardless of which type of object it is ultimately classified as, IRAS 19312+…
We observed the 43 GHz v=1, 2, and 3 and 86 GHz v=1 SiO maser transitions quasi-simultaneously for a Mira-variable-dominated sample of over 80 sources from the Bulge Asymmetries and Dynamical Evolution (BAaDE) project, using ATCA, and statistically compared the relative line strengths. On average, the 43 GHz v=1 line is brighter than the 86 GHz v=1 line by a factor of 1.36+/-0.15. As a result, an 86 GHz v=1 observed sample can be observed to 85.9% of the distance of a 43 GHz v=1 observed sample using the same sensitivity. We discuss what impact this may have on the BAaDE Galactic plane survey …
As a part of the CALYPSO large programme, we constrain the properties of protostellar jets and outflows in a sample of 21 Class 0 protostars with internal luminosities, Lint, from 0.035 to 47 Lsun. We analyse high angular resolution (~0.5"-1") IRAM PdBI observations in CO (2-1), SO ($5_6-4_5$), and SiO (5-4). CO (2-1), which probes outflowing gas, is detected in all the sources (for the first time in SerpS-MM22 and SerpS-MM18b). Collimated high-velocity jets in SiO (5-4) are detected in 67% of the sources (for the first time in IRAS4B2, IRAS4B1, L1448-NB, SerpS-MM18a), and 77% of these also sh…
We discovered new high-velocity components of H$_2$O maser emission in one of the "water fountain" sources, IRAS~18286$-$0959, which has been monitored using the Nobeyama 45 m telescope in the new FLASHING (Finest Legacy Acquisitions of SiO- and H$_2$O-maser Ignitions by Nobeyama Generation) project since 2018 December. The maser spectra show new, extremely high expansion velocities ($>$200~km~s$^{-1}$ projected in the line of sight) components, some of which are located symmetrically in the spectrum with respect to the systemic velocity. They were also mapped with KaVA (KVN and VERA Combined …
The molecular outflow from IRAS 04166+2706 was mapped with the Submillimeter Array (SMA) at 350 GHz continuum and CO J = 3$-$2 at an angular resolution of ~1 arcsec. The field of view covers the central arc-minute, which contains the inner four pairs of knots of the molecular jet. On the channel map, conical structures are clearly present in the low velocity range (|V$-$V$_0$|$<$10 km s$^{-1}$), and the highly collimated knots appear in the Extremely High Velocity range (EHV, 50$>$|V$-$V$_0$|$>$30 km s$^{-1}$). The higher angular resolution of ~1 arcsec reveals the first blue-shifted knot (B1)…
Early Planet Formation in Embedded Disks (eDisk). VII. Keplerian Disk, Disk Substructure, and Accretion Streamers in the Class 0 Protostar IRAS 16544-1604 in CB 68
We report on OH maser emission toward G336.644-0.695 (IRAS 16333-4807), which is a H2O maser-emitting Planetary Nebula (PN). We have detected 1612, 1667 and 1720 MHz OH masers at two epochs using the Australia Telescope Compact Array (ATCA), hereby confirming it as the seventh known case of an OH-maser-emitting PN. This is only the second known PN showing 1720 MHz OH masers after K 3-35 and the only evolved stellar object with 1720 MHz OH masers as the strongest transition. This PN is one of a group of very young PNe. The 1612 MHz and 1667 MHz masers are at a similar velocity to the 22 GHz H2O…
(Abridged) The evolution of low- and intermediate-initial-mass stars beyond the asymptotic giant branch (AGB) remains poorly understood. High-velocity outflows launched shortly after the AGB phase are thought to be the primary shaping mechanism of bipolar and multipolar planetary nebulae (PNe). However, little is known about the launching and driving mechanism for these jets, whose momentum and energy often far exceed the energy that can be provided by radiation pressure alone. Here, we report direct evidence of a magnetically collimated jet shaping the bipolar morphology of the circumstellar …
We report results of 0.05"-resolution observations toward the O-type proto-binary system IRAS 16547-4247 with the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA). We present dynamical and chemical structures of the circumbinary disk, circumstellar disks, outflows and jets, illustrated by multi-wavelength continuum and various molecular lines. In particular, we detect sodium chloride, silicon compounds, and vibrationally-excited water lines as probes of the individual protostellar disks at a scale of 100 au. These are complementary to typical hot-core molecules tracing the circumbinary stru…
