A gauge theory for a superalgebra that includes an internal gauge (G) and local Lorentz algebras, and that could describe the low energy particle phenomenology is constructed. These two symmetries are connected by fermionic supercharges. The system includes an internal gauge connection 1-form $A$, a spin-1/2 Dirac spinor $ψ$, the Lorentz connection $ω$, and the vielbein $e$. The connection one-form is in the adjoint representation of G, while $ψ$ is in the fundamental. In contrast to standard supergravity, the metric is not a fundamental field and is in the center of the superalgebra: it is not only invariant under the internal gauge group and under Lorentz transformations, but is also invariant under supersymmetry. The features of this theory that mark the difference with standard supersymmetry are: A) The number of fermionic and bosonic states is not necessarily the same; B) There are no superpartners with equal mass, "bosoninos", sleptons and squarks are absent; C) Although this supersymmetry originates in a local gauge theory and gravity is included, there is no gravitino; D) Fermions acquire mass from their coupling to the background or from self-couplings, while bosons remain massless. In odd dimensions, the Chern-Simons form provides an action that is quasi-invariant under the entire superalgebra. In even dimensions, the Yang-Mills form $ < F *F>$ is the only natural option, and the symmetry breaks down to [G x SO(1,D-1)]. In 4D, the construction follows the Townsend - Mac Dowell-Mansouri approach. Due to the absence of osp(4|2)-invariant traces in four dimensions, the resulting Lagrangian is only invariant under [U(1) x SO(3,1)], and includes a Nambu--Jona-Lasinio term. In this case, the Lagrangian depends on a single dimensionful parameter that fixes Newton's constant, the cosmological constant and the NJL coupling.
We study the vacuum structure of the U(N) gauge model with partially broken N=2 supersymmetry. From the analysis of the classical vacua of this model, we point out that in addition to the ordinary N=1 supersymmetric vacua, there are vacua with negative gauge coupling constants, which preserve another N=1 supersymmetry. These latter vacua can be analyzed by using SUSY/non-SUSY duality which is recently proposed by Aganagic, Beem, Seo and Vafa. A dual description of these in UV is U(N) gauge theory where the supersymmetry is broken by spurion superfields. Following them, we see that there are su…
The multidimensional N=4 supersymmetric quantum mechanics (SUSY QM) is constructed and the various possibilities for partial supersymmetry breaking are discussed. It is shown that quantum mechanical models with one quarter, one half and three quarters of unbroken(broken) supersymmetries can exist in the framework of the multidimensional N=4 SUSY QM.
We show explicitly by the heuristic and practical arguments that for $N = 2$ supersymmetry (SUSY) a SUSY invariant relation between component fields of a vector supermultiplet of linear SUSY and Nambu-Goldstone fermions of the Volkov-Akulov model of nonlinear SUSY is written by using only three arbitrary dimensionless parameters, which can be recasted as the vacuum expectation values of auxiliary fields in the vector supermultiplet.
These are expanded notes of lectures given at the summer school "Gif 2000" in Paris. They constitute the first part of an "Introduction to supersymmetry and supergravity" with the second part on supergravity by J.-P. Derendinger to appear soon. The present introduction is elementary and pragmatic. I discuss: spinors and the Poincaré group, the susy algebra and susy multiplets, superfields and susy lagrangians, susy gauge theories, spontaneously broken susy, the non-linear sigma model, N=2 susy gauge theories, and finally Seiberg-Witten duality.
In this report I give the short historical review some of the first steps that were done to the invention of SUSY in Kharkov team headed by D.Volkov. This paper is dedicated to the memory of Prof. Yu. Gol'fand, whose ideas of SUSY inspired the most active developments in High Energy Physics over thirty years.
We focus on a spin-3/2 supersymmetry (SUSY) algebra of Baaklini in D = 3 and explicitly show a nonlinear realization of the SUSY algebra. The unitary representation of the spin-3/2 SUSY algebra is discussed and compared with the ordinary (spin-1/2) SUSY algebra.
A global supersymmetry (SUSY) in supersymmetric gauge theory is generally broken by gauge fixing. A prescription to extract physical information from such SUSY algebra broken by gauge fixing is analyzed in path integral framework. If $δ_{SUSY}δ_{BRST}Ψ= δ_{BRST}δ_{SUSY}Ψ$ for a gauge fixing ``fermion'' $Ψ$, the SUSY charge density is written as a sum of the piece which is naively expected without gauge fixing and a BRST exact piece. If $δ_{SUSY}δ_{SUSY}δ_{BRST}Ψ= δ_{BRST}δ_{SUSY}δ_{SUSY}Ψ$, the equal-time anti-commutator of SUSY charge is written as a sum of a physical piece and a BRST exact p…
We investigate for N = 3 supersymmetry (SUSY) in D = 2 the algebraic relation between the Volkov-Akulov (VA) model of nonlinear (NL) SUSY and a (renormalizable) SO(3) vector supermultiplet of linear (L) SUSY. We derive SUSY and SO(3) invariant relations between component fields of the vector supermultiplet and Nambu-Goldstone (NG) fermions of the VA model at leading orders by using three arbitrary dimensionless parameters which can be recasted as the vacuum expectation values of auxiliary fields in the vector supermultiplet. Two different irreducible representations of SO(3) super-Poincaré sym…
We investigate for N = 1 supersymmetry (SUSY) the relation between a scalar supermultiplet of linear SUSY and a nonlinear (NL) SUSY model including apparently pathological higher derivaive terms of a Nambu-Goldstone (N-G) fermion besides the Volkov-Akulov (V-A) action. SUSY invariant relations with higher derivative terms of the N-G fermion, which connect the linear and NL SUSY models, are constructed at leading orders by heuristic arguments. We discuss a higher derivative action of the N-G fermion in the NL SUSY model, which apparently includes a (Weyl) ghost field. By using this relation, we…
We discuss further the universality of the Volkov-Akulov (V-A) action of a Nambu-Goldstone (N-G) fermion for the spontaneous breaking of supersymmetry (SUSY). We show general relations between the standard V-A action and nonlinear (NL) SUSY actions including apparently (pathological) higher derivatives of the N-G fermion. Composite fields of the N-G fermions are found, which transform homogeneously under NL SUSY transformations of V-A. Consequently, we obtain NL SUSY invariant constraints which connect our NL SUSY actions with the V-A action. The constraints are explicitly solved and we show e…
We investigate SUSY of Wess-Zumino models in non(anti-)commutative Euclidean superspaces. Non(anti-)commutative deformations break 1/2 SUSY, then non(anti-)commutative Wess-Zumino models do not have full SUSY in general. However, we can recover full SUSY at specific coupling constants satisfying some relations. We give a general way to construct full SUSY non(anti-)commutative Wess-Zumino models. For a some example, we investigate quantum corrections and $β$-functions behavior.
We investigate for the N = 2 supersymmetry (SUSY) a relation between a vector supermultiplet of the linear SUSY and the Volkov-Akulov model of the nonlinear SUSY. We express component fields of the vector supermultiplet in terms of Nambu-Goldstone fermion fields at the leading orders in a SUSY invariant way, and show the vector nature of the U(1) gauge field explicitly. A relation of the actions for the two models is also discussed briefly.
We show explicitly in D = 2 that N = 2 nonlinear supersymmetric (SUSY) Volkov-Akulov model is equivalent to a spontaneously broken N = 2 linear SUSY interacting theory containing the ordinary Yukawa interactions and mass terms, which is renormalizable, by using SUSY invariant relations.
The relation between a nonlinear supersymmetic (NLSUSY) theory and a SUSY Yang-Mills (SYM) theory is studied for N = 3 SUSY in two-dimensional space-time. We explicitly show the NL/L SUSY relation for the (pure) SYM theory by means of cancellations among Nambu-Goldstone fermion self-interaction terms.
We study a non-supersymmetric deformation of the field theory dual to the baryonic branch of Klebanov-Strassler. Using a combination of analytical (series expansions) and numerical methods we construct non-supersymmetric backgrounds that smoothly interpolate between the desired UV and IR behaviors. We calculate various observables of the field theory and propose a picture of soft breaking by gaugino masses that is consistent with the various calculations on the string side.
We construct a class of matrix models, where supersymmetry (SUSY) is spontaneously broken at the matrix size $N$ infinite. The models are obtained by dimensional reduction of matrix-valued SUSY quantum mechanics. The potential of the models is slowly varying, and the large-$N$ limit is taken with the slowly varying limit. First, we explain our formalism, introducing an external field to detect spontaneous SUSY breaking, analogously to ordinary (bosonic) symmetry breaking. It is observed that SUSY is possibly broken even in systems in less than one-dimension, for example, discretized quantum me…
The simplest supersymmetry (SUSY) algebra in four dimensional Euclidean space ($4dE$) has been shown to closely resemble the $N = 2$ SUSY algebra in four dimensional Minkowski space ($4dM$). The structure of the former algebra is examined in greater detail in this paper. We first present its Clifford algebra structure. This algebra shows that the momentum Casimir invariant of physical states has an upper bound which is fixed by the central charges. Secondly, we use reduction of the $N = 1$ SUSY algebra in six dimensional Minkowski space ($6dM$) to $4dE$; this reproduces our SUSY algebra in $4d…
Supersymmetric quantum mechanics is a powerful tool for generating exactly solvable potentials departing from a given initial one. If applied to the harmonic oscillator, a family of Hamiltonians ruled by polynomial Heisenberg algebras is obtained. In this paper it will be shown that the SUSY partner Hamiltonians of the harmonic oscillator can produce evolution loops. The corresponding geometric phases will be as well studied.
We focus on a nonlinear supersymmetry (NL SUSY) in curved spacetime introduced in the superon-graviton model (SGM) towards a SUSY composite unified model based on SO(10) super-Poincaré symmetry, and we consider for $N = 1$ SUSY a systematic procedure to linearize the NL SUSY. By introducing modified superspace translations of superspace coordinates and their specific coordinate transformations both depending on a Nambu-Goldstone fermion, we show a homogeneous transformation's law of superfields which is important in the relation between linear (L) and NL SUSY. Furthermore, as a preliminary to …
We construct an N=1 supersymmetric gauge theory from z=3 Lifshitz field theory. By modifying the supersymmetry (susy) algebra based on the spacetime symmetry SO(3) $\times$ scaling symmetry, we get a supersymmetric Lagrangian with scalar, fermion and gauge fields, all of whom have the same limiting speed. This solves some naturalness problems of the original Lifshitz theory which is characterized by Lorentz symmetry violation. In order that the susy breaking does not introduce any disastrous terms into the theory, the susy breaking scale is required to be smaller than the scale of Lorentz symm…
For the so-called source-probe configuration in Matrix theory, we prove the following theorem concerning the power of supersymmetry (SUSY): Let $δ$ be a quantum-corrected effective SUSY transformation operator expandable in powers of the coupling constant $g$ as $δ= \sum_{n\ge 0} g^{2n} δ^{(n)}$, where $δ^{(0)}$ is of the tree-level form. Then, apart from an overall constant, the SUSY Ward identity $δΓ=0$ determines the off-shell effective action $Γ$ uniquely to arbitrary order of perturbation theory, provided that the $ SO(9)$ symmetry is preserved. Our proof depends only on the properties of…
We propose a deflected anomaly mediation scenario from SUSY QCD which can lead to both positive and negative deflection parameters (there is a smooth transition between these two deflection parameter regions by adjusting certain couplings). Such a scenario can naturally give a SUSY spectrum in which all the colored sparticles are heavy while the sleptons are light. As a result, the discrepancy between the Brookheaven $g_μ-2$ experiment and LHC data can be reconciled in this scenario. We also find that the parameter space for explaining the $g_μ-2$ anomaly at $1σ$ level can be fully covered by …
We study the unitary representation of supersymmetry (SUSY) algebra based on a spinor-vector generator for both massless and massive cases. A systematic linearization of nonlinear realization for the SUSY algebra is also discussed in the superspace formalism with a spinor-vector Grassmann coordinate.
We provide string theory examples where a toy model of a SUSY GUT or the MSSM is embedded in a compactification along with a gauge sector which dynamically breaks supersymmetry. We argue that by changing microscopic details of the model (such as precise choices of flux), one can arrange for the dominant mediation mechanism transmitting SUSY breaking to the Standard Model to be either gravity mediation or gauge mediation. Systematic improvement of such examples may lead to top-down models incorporating a solution to the SUSY flavor problem.
Spontaneous supersymmetry (SUSY) breaking is revealed in all phenomena in which vacuum condensates are physically relevant. The dynamical breakdown of SUSY is generated by the condensates themselves, which lift the zero point energy. Evidence is presented in the case of the Wess-Zuimino model, and the flavor mixing case is treated in detail.
We present simple string models which dynamically break supersymmetry without non-Abelian gauge dynamics. The Fayet model, the Polonyi model, and the O'Raifeartaigh model each arise from D-branes at a specific type of singularity. D-brane instanton effects generate the requisite exponentially small scale of supersymmetry breaking.
We study realization of N=2 SUSY in N=2 abelian gauge theory with electric and magnetic $FI$ terms within a manifestly supersymmetric formulation. We find that after dualization of even one $FI$ term N=2 SUSY is realized in a partial breaking mode off shell. In the case of two $FI$ terms, this regime is preserved on shell. The N=2 SUSY algebra is shown to be modified on gauge-variant objects.
Non-anticommutative deformations have been studied in the context of supersymmetry (SUSY) in three and four space-time dimensions, and the general picture is that highly nontrivial to deform supersymmetry in a way that still preserves some of its important properties, both at the formal algebraic level (e.g., preserving the associativity of the deformed theory) as well as at the physical level (e.g., maintaining renormalizability). The Hopf algebra formalism allows the definition of algebraically consistent deformations of SUSY, but this algebraic consistency does not guarantee that physical m…
The spacetime symmetries of SGM action proposed as the gravitational coupling of N-G fermions are investigated. The commutators of new nonlinear supersymmetry (NL SUSY) transformations form a closed algebra, which reveals N-G fermion (NL SUSY) nature and a generalized general coordinate transformation. A generalized local Lorentz transformation, which forms a closed algebra, is also introduced.
As a step toward clarification of the power of supersymmetry (SUSY) in Matrix theory, a complete calculation, including all the spin effects, is performed of the effective action of a probe D-particle, moving along an arbitrary trajectory in interaction with a large number of coincident source D-particles, at one loop at order 4 in the derivative expansion. Furthermore, exploiting the SUSY Ward identity developed previously, the quantum-corrected effective supersymmetry transformation laws are obtained explicitly to the relevant order and are used to verify the SUSY-invariance of the effective…
In a previous work, we computed the fully off-shell effective action $Γ$ and the corresponding quantum-corrected supersymmetry (SUSY) transformation operator $δ_ε$ for the so-called source-probe configuration in Matrix theory at one loop at order 4 in the derivative expansion, and showed that they satisfy the SUSY Ward identity $δ_εΓ=0$. In this article, starting from the most general form of $Γ$, we demonstrate that, conversely, given such $δ_ε$ the SUSY Ward identity determines $Γ$ uniquely to the order specified above. Our demonstration does not require the explicit knowledge of the quantum…
We claim that 3d monopole quivers, theories with product gauge groups interacting through Affleck-Harvey-Witten superpotentials, are a natural setup for the study of spontaneous breaking 3d $\mathcal{N}=2$ supersymmetry. We give evidence of this statement by studying various examples of increasing complexity, considering quivers that are mirror dual to Wess-Zumino models. These Wess-Zumino models, in opportune regimes of parameters, break supersymmetry in perturbatively controllable (meta)stable vacua.
We linearize nonlinear supersymmetry in the Volkov-Akulov (VA) theory for extended SUSY in two dimensional spacetime ($d = 2$) based on the commutator algebra. Linear SUSY transformations of basic component fields for general vector supermultiplets are uniquely determined from variations of functionals (composites) of Nambu-Goldstone (NG) fermions, which are represented as simple products of powers of the NG fermions and a fundamental determinant in the VA theory. The structure of basic component fields with general auxiliary fields in the vector supermultiplets and transitions to $U(1)$ gauge…
We study soft supersymmetry breaking in local models of type II string theory compactifications with branes and fluxes. In such models, magnetic fluxes can be treated as auxiliary fields in N=2 SUSY multiplets. These multiplets appear as ``spurion superfields'' in the low-energy effective action for the local model. We discuss the pattern of SUSY breaking from N=2 to N=1 to N=0 in these models, and then identify the fields leading to soft SUSY breaking terms in various examples. In the final section, we reconsider arguments for the Dijkgraaf-Vafa conjecture in gauge theories with softly broken…
Starting with the Lagrangian formalism with N=2 supersymmetry in terms of two Grassmann variables in Classical Mechanics, the Dirac canonical quantization method is implemented. The N=2 supersymmetry algebra is associated to one-component and two-component eigenfunctions considered in the Schrödinger picture of Nonrelativistic Quantum Mechanics. Applications are contemplated.
We establish the existence of the topological vector supersymmetry in the six dimensional topological field theory for two-form fields introduced by Baulieu and West. We investigate the relation of these symmetries to the twist operation for the (2,0) supersymmetry and comment on their resemblance to the analogous symmetries in topological Yang-Mills theory.
We discuss spontaneous supersymmetry (SUSY) breaking mechanisms by means of modulated vacua in four-dimensional ${\cal N} =1$ supersymmetric field theories. The SUSY breaking due to spatially modulated vacua is extended to the cases of temporally and lightlike modulated vacua, using a higher-derivative model with a chiral superfield, free from the Ostrogradsky instability and the auxiliary field problem. For all the kinds of modulated vacua, SUSY is spontaneously broken and the fermion in the chiral superfield becomes a Goldstino. We further investigate the stability of the modulated vacua. Th…
We carry out a model-independent EFT method study on the vacuum statistics of general F-term SUSY breaking models. Assuming a smooth distribution of Lagrangian parameters, SUSY breaking vacua are rare in global SUSY models with a canonical Kähler potential, and have a peaked distribution near the cut-off of the SUSY breaking scale in both global SUSY and SUGRA models with a general Kähler potential. After including different mass scales in the Lagrangian, we compare the total number of SUSY and non-SUSY vacua and estimate quantitatively the rareness of SUSY breaking. The EFT method provides a …
We study a cold atom-molecule mixture in two-dimensional optical lattices, in which fermionic atoms have a Dirac-type dispersion. We show that by fine-tuning the atomic and molecular interactions, such mixtures can simulate Wess-Zumino supersymmetry (SUSY) model, the first example of SUSY theories. At zero temperature, SUSY is not spontaneously broken for this simplest SUSY model, which implies identical relativistic dispersions of the atom and its superpartner, bosonic diatom molecule. This defining signature of SUSY can be probed by single particle spectroscopies. Thermal breaking of SUSY at…
Supersymmetry (SUSY) relating bosons and fermions plays an important role in unifying different fundamental interactions in particle physics. Since no superpartners of elementary particles have been observed, SUSY, if present, must be broken at low-energy. This makes it important to understand how SUSY is realized and broken, and study their consequences. We show that an $\mathcal{N}=(1,0)$ SUSY, arguably the simplest type, can be realized at the edge of the Moore-Read quantum Hall state. Depending on the absence or presence of edge reconstruction, both SUSY-preserving and SUSY broken phases c…
It is argued that the noncommutativity approach to fully supersymmetric field theories on the lattice suffers from an inconsistency. Supersymmetric quantum mechanics is worked out in this formalism and the inconsistency is shown both in general and explicitly for that system, as well as for the Abelian super BF model.
We study N=1 global and local supersymmetric theories with a continuous global $U(1)_R$ symmetry as models of dynamical supersymmetry (SUSY) breaking. We introduce explicit R-symmetry breaking terms into such models, in particular a generalized O'Raifeartaigh model. Such explicit R-symmetry breaking terms can lead to a SUSY preserving minimum. We classify explicit R-symmetry breaking terms by the structure of newly appeared SUSY stationary points as a consequence of the R-breaking effect, which could make the SUSY breaking vacuum metastable. We show that the R-breaking terms are basically divi…
We investigate the microphysics of cosmic strings in Nonabelian gauge theories with N=1 supersymmetry. We give the vortex solutions in a specific example and demonstrate that fermionic superconductivity arises because of the couplings and interactions dictated by supersymmetry. We then use supersymmetry transformations to obtain the relevant fermionic zero modes and investigate the role of soft supersymmetry breaking on the existence and properties of the superconducting strings.
We show that couplings of the goldstino field, appearing when global supersymmetry is broken, can always be described in superspace by means of a nilpotent chiral superfield $X$, satisfying $X^2=0$. This applies to both F-term and D-term supersymmetry breaking, even when the supersymmetry breaking model admits a linear description.
Models like the Supersymmetric Standard Model (SSM) possess simple, but well-hidden, `Outfields'. These Outfields are composite operators that violate superspace invariance, but in a special way. A new mechanism for SUSY breaking arises from the Outfields, for a special non-minimal version of the SSM, which will be called the CSSM. The CSSM has right neutrinos and a Higgs singlet, which we call J, in addition to the usual SSM. This breaking of SUSY cannot be avoided, because it arises from the local BRST cohomology of the theory, which is also the origin of the Outfields. It can also be seen t…
We investigate split supersymmetry (SUSY) within a supergravity framework, where local SUSY is broken by the F-term of a hidden sector chiral superfield X. With reasonably general assumptions, we show that the fermionic component of X will always have mass within a Tev. Though its coupling to the observable sector superfields is highly suppressed in Tev scale SUSY, we show that it can be enhanced by many orders in split SUSY, leading to its likely participation in accelerator phenomenology. We conclude with a specific example of such a scenario in a string based supergravity model.
It is one of the major issues to realize a vacuum which breaks supersymmetry (SUSY) and R-symmetry, in a supersymmetric model. We study the model, where the same sector breaks the gauge symmetry and SUSY. In general, the SUSY breaking model without gauge symmetry has a flat direction at the minimum of F-term scalar potential. When we introduce U(1) gauge symmetry to such a SUSY breaking model, there can appear a runaway direction. Such a runway direction can be lifted by loop effects, and the gauge symmetry breaking and SUSY breaking are realized. The R-symmetry, that is assigned to break SUSY…
We extend the classification of supersymmetric locally AdS$_3$ geometries, beyond BTZ black holes, to the Banados geometries, noting that supersymmetries are in one-to-one correspondence with solutions to the Hill differential condition. We show that the number of global supersymmetries is an orbit invariant quantity and identify geometries with zero, one, two, three and four global supersymmetries. As an application of our classification, we exploit supersymmetry, which is preserved locally in the bulk, to determine space-like co-dimension two surfaces in AdS$_3$. In the process, we by-pass g…
We study in two space-time dimensions (d = 2) the relation between N = 2 supersymmetric (SUSY) QED theory and N = 2 nonlinear (NL) SUSY model by linearizing N = 2 NLSUSY generally based upon the fundamental notions of the basic theory. We find a remarkable mechanism which determines theoretically the magnitude of the bare gauge coupling constant from the general structure of auxiliary fields. We show explicitly in d = 2 that the NL/linear SUSY relation (i.e. a SUSY compositeness condition for all particles) determines the magnitude of the bare electromagnetic coupling constant (i.e. the fine s…
We investigate the split supersymmetry (SUSY) scenario recently proposed by Arkani-Hamed and Dimopoulos, where the scalars are heavy but the fermions are within the TeV range. We show that the sparticle spectrum in such a case crucially depends on the specific details of the mechanism underlying the SUSY breaking scheme, and the accelerator signals are also affected by it. In particular, we demonstrate in the context of a braneworld-inspired model, used as illustration in the original work, that a new fermion $ψ_X$, arising from the SUSY breaking sector, is shown to control low-energy phenomen…
Nonlinear (Polynomial, N-fold) SUSY approach to preparation of quantum systems with pre-planned spectral properties is reviewed. The full classification of ladder-reducible and irreducible chains of SUSY algebras in one-dimensional QM is given. Possible extensions of SUSY in one dimension are described. They include (no more than) ${\cal N} =2$ extended SUSY with two nilpotent SUSY charges which generate the hidden symmetry acting as a central charge. Embedding stationary quantum systems into a non-stationary SUSY QM is shown to yield new insight on quantum orbits and on spectrum generating al…
Two known 2-dim SUSY quantum mechanical constructions - the direct generalization of SUSY with first-order supercharges and Higher order SUSY with second order supercharges - are combined for a class of 2-dim quantum models, which {\it are not amenable} to separation of variables. The appropriate classical limit of quantum systems allows us to construct SUSY-extensions of original classical scalar Hamiltonians. Special emphasis is placed on the symmetry properties of the models thus obtained - the explicit expressions of quantum symmetry operators and of classical integrals of motion are given…
By the Parisi-Sourlas conjecture, the critical point of a theory with random field (RF) disorder is described by a supersymmeric (SUSY) conformal field theory (CFT), related to a $d-2$ dimensional CFT without SUSY. Numerical studies indicate that this is true for the RF $ϕ^3$ model but not for RF $ϕ^4$ model in $d<5$ dimensions. Here we argue that the SUSY fixed point is not reached because of new relevant SUSY-breaking interactions. We use perturbative renormalization group in a judiciously chosen field basis, allowing systematic exploration of the space of interactions. Our computations agre…
We discuss the structure of the soft supersymmetry breaking terms in a MSSM like model, which can be derived from D7-branes with chiral matter fields from 2-form f-fluxes and supersymmetry breaking from 3-form G-fluxes.
Supersymmetry breaking in a metastable vacuum is re-examined in a cosmological context. It is shown that thermal effects generically drive the Universe to the metastable minimum even if it begins in the supersymmetry-preserving one. This is a generic feature of the ISS models of metastable supersymmetry breaking due to the fact that SUSY preserving vacua contain fewer light degrees of freedom than the metastable ground state at the origin. These models of metastable SUSY breaking are thus placed on an equal footing with the more usual dynamical SUSY breaking scenarios.
Dynamical supersymmetry breaking in a long-lived meta-stable vacuum is a phenomenologically viable possibility. This relatively unexplored avenue leads to many new models of dynamical supersymmetry breaking. Here, we present a surprisingly simple class of models with meta-stable dynamical supersymmetry breaking: N=1 supersymmetric QCD, with massive flavors. Though these theories are strongly coupled, we definitively demonstrate the existence of meta-stable vacua by using the free-magnetic dual. Model building challenges, such as large flavor symmetries and the absence of an R-symmetry, are eas…
Within the context of the extended bi-spinor gauge theory we describe a new off-shell realization of scalar supersymmetry (s-susy) of massless interacting fields with U(1), U(1) x SU(N) and U(1) x SU(N_1) x SU(N_2) gauge groups. S-susy acts in the space of graded differential forms. The realization is non-linear in the non-abelian case. S-susy would not require the doubling of the SM particle spectrum. Instead, essentially only the forth generation of quarks and leptons would be needed as extra field content. The theory is by construction globally U(2,2) invariant and is an example of a supers…
We consider the supersymmetry breaking effects on typical inflation models with different types of Kähler potential. The critical size of supersymmetry-breaking scale, above which the flatness of the inflaton potential is spoiled, drastically changes model by model. We present the universal description of such effects in terms of a field-dependent scaling factor by which gravity-mediated supersymmetry breaking terms are suppressed or enhanced, based on the conformal supergravity framework. Such a description would be useful when we estimate them in constructing supersymmetric models of particl…
We propose a new chiral model of metastable supersymmetry breaking in the conformal window via chiral/nonchiral Seiberg duality, which is focused on Spin(7)/SU(N_f-4) duality in this letter. Following the approach of Intriligator-Seiberg-Shih model, a small mass perturbation in the nonchiral theory leads to supersymmetry breaking by rank condition in the chiral dual description.
