Let $\mathfrak g$ be a simple Lie algebra over an algebraically closed field $\bf k$ of characteristic zero and $\bf G$ its adjoint group. Let $\mathfrak q$ be a biparabolic subalgebra of $\mathfrak g$. The algebra $Sy(\mathfrak q)$ of semi-invariants on $\mathfrak q^*$ is polynomial in most cases, in particular when $\mathfrak g$ is simple of type $A$ or $C$. On the other hand $\mathfrak q$ admits a canonical truncation $\mathfrak q_Λ$ such that $Sy(\mathfrak q)=Sy(\mathfrak q_Λ)=Y(\mathfrak q_Λ)$ where $Y(\mathfrak q_Λ)$ denotes the algebra of invariant functions on $\mathfrak q_Λ^*$. An adapted pair for $\mathfrak q_Λ$ is a pair $(h,\,η)\in \mathfrak q_Λ\times\mathfrak q_Λ^*$ such that $η$ is regular and $(ad\,h)η=-η$. In a previous paper of A. Joseph (2008) adapted pairs for every truncated biparabolic subalgebra $\mathfrak q_Λ$ of a simple Lie algebra $\mathfrak g$ of type $A$ were constructed and then provide Weierstrass sections for $Y(\mathfrak q_Λ)$ in $\mathfrak q_Λ^*$. These latter are linear subvarieties $η+V$ of $\mathfrak q_Λ^*$ such that the restriction map induces an algebra isomorphism of $Y(\mathfrak q_Λ)$ onto the algebra of regular functions on $η+V$. Here we show that for each of the adapted pairs $(h,\,η)$ constructed in the paper mentioned above one can express $η$ as the image of a regular nilpotent element $y$ of $\mathfrak g^*$ under the restriction to $\mathfrak q$. Since $y$ must be a $\bf G$ translate of the standard regular nilpotent element defined in terms of the already chosen set $π$ of simple roots, one may attach to $y$ a unique element of the Weyl group. Ultimately one can then hope to be able to describe adapted pairs (in general) through the Weyl group.
Let $\bbk$ be an algebraically closed field of prime characteristic $p$. If $p$ does not divide $n$, irreducible modules over $\frak {sl}_n$ for regular and subregular nilpotent representations have already known(see \cite{Jan2} and \cite{Jan3}). In this article, we investigate the question when $p$ divides $n$, and precisely describe simple modules of $\frak {sl}_n$ for regular and subregular nilpotent representations.
We study the ring of regular functions of classical spherical orbits $R(\mathcal{O})$ for $G = Sp(2n,\mathbb{C})$. In particular, treating $G$ as a real Lie group with maximal compact subgroup $K$, we focus on a quantization model of $\mathcal{O}$ when $\mathcal{O}$ is the nilpotent orbit $(2^{2p}1^{2q})$. With this model, we verify a conjecture by McGovern and another conjecture by Achar and Sommers for such orbits. Assuming the results in [Barbasch 2008], we will also verify the Achar-Sommers conjecture for a larger class of nilpotent orbits.
Given a classical semisimple complex algebraic group G and a symmetric pair (G, K) of non-Hermitian type, we study the closures of the spherical nilpotent K-orbits in the isotropy representation of K. For all such orbit closures, we study the normality and we describe the K-module structure of the ring of regular functions of the normalizations.
Given an exceptional simple complex algebraic group G and a symmetric pair (G, K), we study the spherical nilpotent K-orbit closures in the isotropy representation of K. We show that they are all normal except in one case in type G2, and compute the K-module structure of the ring of regular functions on their normalizations.
This paper provides a comparison between the $K$-structure of unipotent representations and regular sections of bundles on nilpotent orbits for complex groups of type $D$. Precisely, let $ G_ 0 =Spin(2n,\mathbb C)$ be the Spin complex group viewed as a real group, and $K\cong G_0$ be the complexification of the maximal compact subgroup of $G_0$. We compute $K$-spectra of the regular functions on some small nilpotent orbits $\mathcal O$ transforming according to characters $ψ$ of $C_{ K}(\mathcal O)$ trivial on the connected component of the identity $C_{ K}(\mathcal O)^0$. We then match them w…
Given a classical semisimple complex algebraic group G and a symmetric pair (G,K) of Hermitian type, we study the closures of the spherical nilpotent K-orbits in the isotropy representation of K. We show that all such orbit closures are normal and describe the K-module structure of their ring of regular functions.
We study the quantizations of the algebras of regular functions on nilpotent orbits. We show that such a quantization always exists and is unique if the orbit is birationally rigid. Further we show that, for special birationally rigid orbits, the quantization has integral central character in all cases but four (one orbit in E_7 and three orbits in E_8). We use this to complete the computation of Goldie ranks for primitive ideals with integral central character for all special nilpotent orbits but one (in E_8). Our main ingredient is results on the geometry of normalizations of the closures of…
In this paper we study the finite W-algebra for the queer Lie superalgebra Q(n) associated with the non-regular even nilpotent coadjoint orbits in the case when the corresponding nilpotent element has Jordan blocks each of size l. We prove that this finite W-algebra is isomorphic to a quotient of the super-Yangian of Q({n/l})
The Springer resolution of the nilpotent cone of a semisimple Lie algebra has played an important role in representation theory. The nilpotent cone is equal to Spec R, where R is the ring of regular functions on the nilpotent cone. This paper constructs and studies an analogue of the Springer resolution for the variety Spec S, where S is the ring of regular functions on the universal cover of the regular nilpotent orbit. The construction makes use of the theory of toric varieties. Using this construction, we provide new proofs of results of Broer and of Graham about Spec S. Finally, we show th…
The results in this paper provide a comparison between the $K$-structure of unipotent representations and regular sections of bundles on nilpotent orbits. Precisely, let $\widetilde{G_0} =\widetilde{Spin}(a,b)$ with $a+b=2n$, the nonlinear double cover of $Spin(a,b)$, and let $\widetilde{K}=Spin(a, \mathbb C)\times Spin(b, \mathbb C)$ be the complexification of the maximal compact subgroup of $\widetilde{G_0}$. We consider the nilpotent orbit $\mathcal O_c$ parametrized by $[3 \ 2^{2k} \ 1^{2n-4k-3}]$ with $k>0$. We provide a list of unipotent representations that are genuine, and prove that t…
This paper studies nilpotent orbits in complex simple Lie algebras from the viewpoint of strongly visible actions in the sense of T. Kobayashi. We prove that the action of a maximal compact group consisting of inner automorphisms on a nilpotent orbit is strongly visible if and only if it is spherical, namely, admitting an open orbit of a Borel subgroup. Further, we find a concrete description of a slice in the strongly visible action. As a corollary, we clarify a relationship among different notions of complex nilpotent orbits: actions of Borel subgroups (sphericity); multiplicity-free represe…
We study the regular function ring $R(\mathcal{O})$ for all symplectic nilpotent orbits $\mathcal{O}$ with even column sizes. We begin by recalling the quantization model for all such orbits by Barbasch using unipotent representations. With this model, we express the multiplicities of fundamental representations appearing in $R(\mathcal{O})$ by a parabolically induced module. Finally, we will use this formula to give a criterion on the normality of the Zariski closure $\bar{\mathcal{O}}$ of $\mathcal{O}$.
We study the topology of orbits of dynamical systems defined by finite-dimensional representations of nilpotent Lie groups. Thus, the following dichotomy is established: either the interior of the set of regular points is dense in the representation space, or the complement of the set of regular points is dense, and then the interior of that complement is either empty or dense in the representation space. The regular points are by definition the points whose orbits are locally compact in their relative topology. We thus generalize some results from the recent literature on linear actions of ab…
Let $N$ be a simply connected, connected non-commutative nilpotent Lie group with Lie algebra $\mathfrak{n}$ having rational structure constants. We assume that $N=P\rtimes M,$ $M$ is commutative, and for all $λ\in \mathfrak{n}^{\ast}$ in general position the subalgebra $\mathfrak{p}=\log(P)$ is a polarization ideal subordinated to $λ$ ($\mathfrak{p}$ is a maximal ideal satisfying $[\mathfrak{p},\mathfrak{p}]\subseteq\kerλ$ for all $λ$ in general position and $\mathfrak{p}$ is necessarily commutative.) Under these assumptions, we prove that there exists a discrete uniform subgroup $Γ\subset N$…
In the case of complex symplectic and orthogonal groups, we find $(\mathfrak{g}, K)-$modules with the property that their $K-$structure matches the structure of regular functions on the closures of nilpotent orbits. This establishes a version of the Orbit Method of Kirrilov-Kostant-Souriau as proposed by Vogan. In the process we give another proof of the classification of nilpotent orbits with normal closure in the Lie algebra of a classical group first established by Kraft-Procesi.
We study in this paper the jet schemes of the closure of nilpotent orbits in a finite-dimensional complex reductive Lie algebra. For the nilpotent cone, which is the closure of the regular nilpotent orbit, all the jet schemes are irreducible. This was first observed by Eisenbud and Frenkel, and follows from a strong result of Mustautca (2001). Using induction and restriction of "little" nilpotent orbits in reductive Lie algebras, we show that for a large number of nilpotent orbits, the jet schemes of their closure are reducible. As a consequence, we obtain certain geometrical properties of the…
Let $σ$ be an involution of a complex semisimple Lie algebra $\mathfrak g$ and $\mathfrak g=\mathfrak g_0\oplus\mathfrak g_1$ the related $\mathbb Z_2$-grading. We study relations between nilpotent $G_0$-orbits in $\mathfrak g_0$ and the respective $G$-orbits in $\mathfrak g$. If $e\in\mathfrak g_0$ is nilpotent and $\{e,h,f\}\subset\mathfrak g_0$ is an $\mathfrak{sl}_2$-triple, then the semisimple element $h$ yields a $\mathbb Z$-grading of $\mathfrak g$. Our main tool is the combined $\mathbb Z\times\mathbb Z_2$-grading of $\mathfrak g$, which is called a mixed grading. We prove, in particul…
In this note, we show that the free generators of the Mishchenko-Fomenko subalgebra of a complex reductive Lie algebra, constructed by the argument shift method at a regular element, form a regular sequence. This result was proven by Serge Ovsienko in the type A at a regular and semisimple element. Our approach is very different, and is strongly based on geometric properties of the nilpotent bicone.
Let $G_{\mathbb R}$ be the set of real points of a complex linear reductive group and $\hat G_λ$ its classes of irreducible admissible representations with infinitesimal integral regular character $λ$. In this case each cell of representations is associated to a \emph{special} nilpotent orbit. This helps organize the corresponding set of irreducible Harish-Chandra modules. The goal of this paper is to is to describe algorithms for identifying the special nilpotent orbit attached to a cell in terms of descent sets appearing in the cell.
For any simple Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$ and an element $μ\in\mathfrak{g}^*$, the corresponding commutative subalgebra $\mathcal{A}_μ$ of $\mathcal{U}(\mathfrak{g})$ is defined as a homomorphic image of the Feigin-Frenkel centre associated with $\mathfrak{g}$. It is known that when $μ$ is regular this subalgebra solves Vinberg's quantisation problem, as the graded image of $\mathcal{A}_μ$ coincides with the Mishchenko-Fomenko subalgebra $\overline{\mathcal{A}}_μ$ of $\mathcal{S}(\mathfrak{g})$. By a conjecture of Feigin, Frenkel and Toledano Laredo, this property extends to an arbitrary eleme…
According to a well-known theorem of Brieskorn and Slodowy, the intersection of the nilpotent cone of a simple Lie algebra with a transverse slice to the subregular nilpotent orbit is a simple surface singularity. At the opposite extremity of the nilpotent cone, the closure of the minimal nilpotent orbit is also an isolated symplectic singularity, called a minimal singularity. For classical Lie algebras, Kraft and Procesi showed that these two types of singularities suffice to describe all generic singularities of nilpotent orbit closures: specifically, any such singularity is either a simple …
Let $\frak g$ be a simple finite-dimensional Lie algebra over an algebraically closed field $\mathbb F$ of characteristic 0. We denote by $\operatorname{U}(\frak g)$ the universal enveloping algebra of $\frak g$. To any nilpotent element $e\in \frak g$ one can attach an associative (and noncommutative as a general rule) algebra $\operatorname{U}({\frak g},~e)$ which is in a proper sense a "tensor factor" of $\operatorname{U}(\frak g)$. In this article we consider the case in which $\frak g$ is simple and $e$ belongs of the minimal nonzero nilpotent orbit of $\frak g$. Under these assumptions $…
To each complex semisimple Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$ and regular element $a\in\mathfrak{g}_{\text{reg}}$, one associates a Mishchenko-Fomenko subalgebra $\mathcal{F}_a\subseteq\mathbb{C}[\mathfrak{g}]$. This subalgebra amounts to a completely integrable system on the Poisson variety $\mathfrak{g}$, and as such has a bifurcation diagram $Σ_a\subseteq\mathrm{Spec}(\mathcal{F}_a)$. We prove that $Σ_a$ has codimension one in $\mathrm{Spec}(\mathcal{F}_a)$ if $a\in\mathfrak{g}_{\text{reg}}$ is not nilpotent, and that it has codimension one or two if $a\in\mathfrak{g}_{\text{reg}}$ is nilpotent. In…
Let $V$ be a finite-dimensional vector space over a field of characteristic two. As the main result of this paper, for every nilpotent element $e \in \mathfrak{sl}(V)$, we describe the Jordan normal form of $e$ on the $\mathfrak{sl}(V)$-modules $\wedge^2(V)$ and $S^2(V)$. In the case where $e$ is a regular nilpotent element, we are able to give a closed formula. We also consider the closely related problem of describing, for every unipotent element $u \in \operatorname{SL}(V)$, the Jordan normal form of $u$ on $\wedge^2(V)$ and $S^2(V)$. A recursive formula for the Jordan block sizes of $u$ on…
Let $G = N \rtimes A$, where $N$ is a graded Lie group and $A = \mathbb{R}^+$ acts on $N$ via homogeneous dilations. The quasi-regular representation $π= \mathrm{ind}_A^G (1)$ of $G$ can be realised to act on $L^2 (N)$. It is shown that for a class of analysing vectors the associated wavelet transform defines an isometry from $L^2 (N)$ into $L^2 (G)$ and that the integral kernel of the corresponding orthogonal projector has polynomial off-diagonal decay. The obtained reproducing formula is instrumental for proving decomposition theorems for function spaces on nilpotent Lie groups.
