We introduce the concept of embedding quantum simulators, a paradigm allowing the efficient quantum computation of a class of bipartite and multipartite entanglement monotones. It consists in the suitable encoding of a simulated quantum dynamics in the enlarged Hilbert space of an embedding quantum simulator. In this manner, entanglement monotones are conveniently mapped onto physical observables, overcoming the necessity of full tomography and reducing drastically the experimental requirements. Furthermore, this method is directly applicable to pure states and, assisted by classical algorithms, to the mixed-state case. Finally, we expect that the proposed embedding framework paves the way for a general theory of enhanced one-to-one quantum simulators.
We propose a quantum algorithm in an embedding ion-trap quantum simulator for the efficient computation of N-qubit entanglement monotones without the necessity of full tomography. Moreover, we discuss possible realistic scenarios and study the associated decoherence mechanisms.
We present practical methods to measure entanglement for quantum simulators that can be realized with trapped ions, cold atoms, and superconducting qubits. Focussing on long- and short-range Ising-type Hamiltonians, we introduce schemes that are applicable under realistic experimental conditions including mixedness due to, e.g., noise or temperature. In particular, we identify a single observable whose expectation value serves as a lower bound to entanglement and which may be obtained by a simple quantum circuit. As such circuits are not (yet) available for every platform, we investigate the p…
We reports direct and scalable measurement of multiparticle entanglement concurrence and three-tangle with embedding photonic quantum simulators. In this embedding framework [Phys. Rev. Lett. 111, 240502 (2013)], $N$-qubit entanglement monotone, which associates with non-Hermitian operators, can be efficiently measured with only 2 (for even $N$) and 6 (for odd $N$) local measurement settings. Our experiment uses a multiphoton quantum simulator to mimic the dynamical entanglement evolution and track its concurrence and three-tangle.
Many elusive quantum phenomena emerge from the interaction of a quantum system with its classical environment. Quantum simulators enable us to program this interaction by using measurement operations. Measurements generally remove part of the quantum entanglement built between the qubits inside a simulator. While in simple cases entanglement may disappear at a constant rate as we measure qubits one by one, the evolution of entanglement under measurements for a given class of quantum states is generally unknown. Here, we show that consecutive measurements of the qubits in a quantum simulator ca…
We propose the implementation of a switch of particle statistics with an embedding quantum simulator. By encoding both Bose-Einstein and Fermi-Dirac statistics into an enlarged Hilbert space, the statistics of quantum particles may be changed in situ during the time evolution, from bosons to fermions and from fermions to bosons, as many times as desired. We illustrate our proposal with few-qubit examples, although the protocol is straightforwardly extendable to larger numbers of particles. This proposal can be implemented on different quantum platforms such as trapped ions, quantum photonics, …
We implement an embedding quantum simulator (EQS) in nuclear spin systems. The experiment consists of a simulator of up to three qubits, plus a single ancillary qubit, where we are able to efficiently measure the concurrence and the three-tangle of two-qubit and a three-qubit systems as they undergo entangling dynamics. The EQS framework allows us to drastically reduce the number of measurements needed for this task, which otherwise would require full-state reconstruction of the qubit system. Our simulator is built of the nuclear spins of 4 $^{13}C$ atoms in a molecule of trans-crotonic acid m…
Measuring entanglement is a demanding task that usually requires full tomography of a quantum system, involving a number of observables that grows exponentially with the number of parties. Recently, it was suggested that adding a single ancillary qubit would allow for the efficient measurement of concurrence, and indeed any entanglement monotone associated to antilinear operations. Here, we report on the experimental implementation of such a device---an embedding quantum simulator---in photonics, encoding the entangling dynamics of a bipartite system into a tripartite one. We show that biparti…
Quantum computers are promising for simulations of chemical and physical systems, but the limited capabilities of today's quantum processors permit only small, and often approximate, simulations. Here we present a method, classical entanglement forging, that harnesses classical resources to capture quantum correlations and double the size of the system that can be simulated on quantum hardware. Shifting some of the computation to classical post-processing allows us to represent ten spin-orbitals on five qubits of an IBM Quantum processor to compute the ground state energy of the water molecule…
Multipartite entanglement tomography, namely the quantum Fisher information (QFI) calculated with respect to different collective operators, allows to fully characterize the phase diagram of the quantum Ising chain in a transverse field with variable-range coupling. In particular, it recognizes the phase stemming from long-range antiferromagnetic coupling, a capability also shared by the spin squeezing. Furthermore, the QFI locates the quantum critical points, both with vanishing and nonvanishing mass gap. In this case, we also relate the finite-size power-law exponent of the QFI to the critic…
The evolution of entanglement in a 3-spin chain with nearest-neighbor Heisenberg-XY interactions for different initial states is investigated here. In an NMR experimental implementation, we generate multipartite entangled states starting from initial separable pseudo-pure states by simulating nearest-neighbor XY interactions in a 3-spin linear chain of nuclear spin qubits. For simulating XY interactions, we follow algebraic method of Zhang et al. [Phys. Rev. A 72, 012331 (2005)]. Bell state between end qubits has been generated by using only the unitary evolution of the XY Hamiltonian. For gen…
The coupling of spins to long-wavelength bosonic modes is a prominent means to engineer long-range spin-spin interactions, and has been realized in a variety of platforms, such as atoms in optical cavities and trapped ions. To date, much of the experimental focus has been on the realization of long-range Ising models, but generalizations to other spin models are highly desirable. In this work, we explore a previously unappreciated connection between the realization of an XY model by off-resonant driving of single sideband of boson excitation (i.e.~a single-beam Mølmer-Sørensen scheme) and a bo…
Quantum simulation promises to have wide applications in many fields where problems are hard to model with classical computers. Various quantum devices of different platforms have been built to tackle the problems in, say, quantum chemistry, condensed matter physics, and high-energy physics. Here, we report an experiment towards the simulation of quantum gravity by simulating the holographic entanglement entropy. On a six-qubit nuclear magnetic resonance quantum simulator, we demonstrate a key result of Anti-de Sitter/conformal field theory(\adscft) correspondence---the Ryu-Takayanagi formula …
The understanding of symmetry operations has brought enormous advancements in physics, ranging from elementary particle to condensed matter systems. In quantum mechanics, symmetry operations are described by either unitary or antiunitary operators, where the latter are unphysical transformations that cannot be realized in physical systems. So far, quantum simulators of unitary and dissipative processes, the only allowed physical dynamics, have been realized in key experiments. Here, we present an embedding quantum simulator able to encode unphysical operations in a multilevel single trapped io…
Entanglement is the crucial ingredient of quantum many-body physics, and characterizing and quantifying entanglement in closed system dynamics of quantum simulators is an outstanding challenge in today's era of intermediate scale quantum devices. Here we discuss an efficient tomographic protocol for reconstructing reduced density matrices and entanglement spectra for spin systems. The key step is a parametrization of the reduced density matrix in terms of an entanglement Hamiltonian involving only quasi local few-body terms. This ansatz is fitted to, and can be independently verified from, a s…
The use of classical computers to simulate quantum computing has been successful in aiding the study of quantum algorithms and circuits that are too complex to examine analytically. Current implementations of quantum computing simulators are limited to two-level quantum systems. Recent advances in high-dimensional quantum computing systems have demonstrated the viability of working with multi-level superposition and entanglement. These advances allow an agile increase in the number of dimensions of the system while maintaining quantum entanglement, achieving higher encoding of information and …

"Bottom-up" approaches to the many-body physics of fermions have demonstrated recently precise number and site-resolved preparations with tunability of interparticle interactions in single-well, SW, and double-well, DW, nano-scale confinements created by manipulating ultracold fermionic atoms with optical tweezers. These experiments emulate an analogue-simulator mapping onto the requisite microscopic hamiltonian, approaching realization of Feynman's vision of quantum simulators that "will do exactly the same as nature". Here we report on exact benchmark configuration-interaction computational …
We present universal characteristics of quantum entanglement and topology through virtual entanglement modes that fluctuate into existence in subsystem measurements. For generic interacting systems and extensive conserved quantities, these modes give rise to a statistical uncertainty which corresponds to entanglement entropies. Consequently, the measurement-induced modes provide directly observable route to entanglement and its scaling laws. Moreover, in topological systems, the measurement-induced edge modes give rise to quantized and non-analytic uncertainties, providing easily accessible si…

Measuring entanglement is a demanding task in the field of quantum computation and quantum information theory. Recently, some authors experimentally demonstrated an embedding quantum simulator, using it to efficiently measure two-qubit entanglement. Here, we are reviewing some measures of entanglement which are used for pure and mixed states. Furthermore, we have reported the efficient bipartite and multipartite entanglement measures.
Witness operators are a central tool to detect entanglement or to distinguish among the different entanglement classes of multiparticle systems, which can be defined using stochastic local operations and classical communication (SLOCC). We show a one-to-one correspondence between general SLOCC witnesses and a class of entanglement witnesses in an extended Hilbert space. This relation can be used to derive SLOCC witnesses from criteria for full separability of quantum states; moreover, given SLOCC witness can be viewed as entanglement witnesses. As applications of this relation we discuss the c…
We present a new scheme to efficiently establish entanglement between optical modes in a time-multiplexed coherent Ising machine (CIM) by means of nonlocal measurement and feedback. We numerically simulate and evaluate the generation of steady-state entanglement in a system with nearest-neighbor interactions on a 1D ring, and we compare the results to those of a conventional CIM with all-optical interactions mediated by delay lines. We show that the delay-line architecture has a fundamental limit on accessible entanglement that our measurement-based scheme can substantially surpass. These resu…
The scalable production of multipartite entangled states in ensembles of qubits is a fundamental function of quantum devices, as such states are an essential resource both for fundamental studies on entanglement, as well as for applied tasks. Here we focus on the $U(1)$ symmetric Hamiltonians for qubits with dipolar interactions -- a model realized in several state-of-the-art quantum simulation platforms for lattice spin models, including Rydberg-atom arrays with resonant interactions. Making use of exact and variational simulations, we theoretically show that the non-equilibrium dynamics gene…
Experimental construction of a symmetric three-qubit entangled state and its utility in testing the violation of a Bell inequality on an NMR quantum simulator
Linear Paul traps have been used recently to simulate the transverse field Ising model with long-range spin-spin couplings. We study the intrinsic effects of phonon creation (from the initial phonon ground state) on the spin-state probability and spin entanglement for such quantum spin simulators. While it has often been assumed that phonon effects are benign because they play no role in the pure Ising model, they can play a significant role when a transverse field is added to the model. We use a many-body factorization of the quantum time-evolution operator of the system, adiabatic perturbati…
Entanglement exhibits universal behavior near the ground-state critical point where correlations are long-ranged and the thermodynamic entropy is vanishing. On the other hand, a quantum quench imparts extensive energy and results in a build-up of entropy, hence no critical behavior is expected at long times. In this work, we present a new paradigm in the quench dynamics of integrable spin chains which exhibit a ground-state order-disorder phase transition at a critical line. Specifically, we consider a quench along the critical line which displays a volume-law behavior of the entropy and expon…
We employ a nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) quantum information processor to simulate the ground state of an XXZ spin chain and measure its NMR analog of entanglement, or pseudo-entanglement. The observed pseudo-entanglement for a small-size system already displays singularity, a signature which is qualitatively similar to that in the thermodynamical limit across quantum phase transitions, including an infinite-order critical point. The experimental results illustrate a successful approach to investigate quantum correlations in many-body systems using quantum simulators.
The canonical Schmidt decomposition of quantum states is discussed and its implementation to the Quantum Computation Simulator is outlined. In particular, the semiorder relation in the space of quantum states induced by the lexicographic semiorder of the space of the Schmidt coefficients is discussed. The appropriate sorting algorithms on the corresponding POSETs consisting from quantum states are formulated and theirs computer implementations are being tested.
In ergodic many-body quantum systems, locally encoded quantum information becomes, in the course of time evolution, inaccessible to local measurements. This concept of "scrambling" is currently of intense research interest, entailing a deep understanding of many-body dynamics such as the processes of chaos and thermalization. Here, we present first experimental demonstrations of quantum information scrambling on a 10-qubit trapped-ion quantum simulator representing a tunable long-range interacting spin system, by estimating out-of-time ordered correlators (OTOCs) through randomized measurement…
Coherence and entanglement are fundamental properties of quantum systems, promising to power the near future quantum computers, sensors and simulators. Yet, their experimental detection is challenging, usually requiring full reconstruction of the system state. We show that one can extract quantitative bounds to the relative entropy of coherence and the coherent information, coherence and entanglement quantifiers respectively, by a limited number of purity measurements. The scheme is readily implementable with current technology to verify quantum computations in large scale registers, without c…
In certain special circumstances, such as in the vicinity of a black hole or in a uniformly accelerating frame, vacuum fluctuations appear to give rise to a finite-temperature environment. This effect, currently without experimental confirmation, can be interpreted as a manifestation of quantum entanglement after tracing out vacuum modes in an unobserved region. In this work, we identify a class of experimentally accessible quantum systems where thermal density matrices emerge from vacuum entanglement. We show that reduced density matrices of lower-dimensional subsystems embedded in $D$-dimens…
Diners dilemma is one of the most interesting problems in both economic and game theories. Here, we solve this problem for n (number of players) =4 with quantum rules and we are able to remove the dilemma of diners between the Pareto optimal and Nash equilibrium points of the game. We find the quantum strategy that gives maximum payoff for each diner without affecting the payoff and strategy of others. We use the quantum principles of superposition and entanglement that gives supremacy over any classical strategies. We present the circuit implementation for the game, design it on the IBM quant…

Electric Field Gradient Calculations for Ice VIII and IX using Polarizable Embedding: A Comparative Study on Classical Computers and Quantum Simulators
A particularly simple description of separability of quantum states arises naturally in the setting of complex algebraic geometry, via the Segre embedding. This is a map describing how to take products of projective Hilbert spaces. In this paper, we show that for pure states of n particles, the corresponding Segre embedding may be described by means of a directed hypercube of dimension n-1, where all edges are bipartite-type Segre maps. Moreover, we describe the image of the original Segre map via the intersections of images of the n-1 edges whose target is the last vertex of the hypercube. Th…

Quantum Language Models (QLMs) in which words are modelled as quantum superposition of sememes have demonstrated a high level of model transparency and good post-hoc interpretability. Nevertheless, in the current literature word sequences are basically modelled as a classical mixture of word states, which cannot fully exploit the potential of a quantum probabilistic description. A full quantum model is yet to be developed to explicitly capture the non-classical correlations within the word sequences. We propose a neural network model with a novel Entanglement Embedding (EE) module, whose funct…
Entanglement is a fundamental resource for quantum information processing, occurring naturally in many-body systems at low temperatures. The presence of entanglement and, in particular, its scaling with the size of system partitions underlies the complexity of quantum many-body states. The quantitative estimation of entanglement in many-body systems represents a major challenge as it requires either full state tomography, scaling exponentially in the system size, or the assumption of unverified system characteristics such as its Hamiltonian or temperature. Here we adopt recently developed appr…
Entanglement is the key feature of many-body quantum systems, and the development of new tools to probe it in the laboratory is an outstanding challenge. Measuring the entropy of different partitions of a quantum system provides a way to probe its entanglement structure. Here, we present and experimentally demonstrate a new protocol for measuring entropy, based on statistical correlations between randomized measurements. Our experiments, carried out with a trapped-ion quantum simulator, prove the overall coherent character of the system dynamics and reveal the growth of entanglement between it…
The idea of the out-of-time-order correlator (OTOC) has recently emerged in the study of both condensed matter systems and gravitational systems. It not only plays a key role in investigating the holographic duality between a strongly interacting quantum system and a gravitational system, but also diagnoses the chaotic behavior of many-body quantum systems and characterizes the information scrambling. Based on the OTOCs, three different concepts -- quantum chaos, holographic duality, and information scrambling -- are found to be intimately related to each other. Despite of its theoretical impo…
