Using the full set of the LHC Higgs data from the runs at 7 and 8 TeV center of mass energies that have been released by the ATLAS and CMS collaborations, we determine the couplings of the Higgs particle to fermions and gauge bosons as well as its parity or CP composition. We consider ratios of production cross sections times decay branching fractions in which the theoretical (and some experimental) uncertainties as well as as some ambiguities from new physics cancel out. A fit of both the signal strengths in the various search channels that have been conducted, H -> Z Z, W W, gamma gamma, tau tau and b b, and their ratios shows that the observed ~126 GeV particle has couplings to fermions and gauge bosons that are Standard Model-like already at the 68% confidence level (CL). From the signal strengths in which the theoretical uncertainty is taken to be a bias, the particle is shown to be at most 68% CP-odd at the 99%CL and the possibility that it is a pure pseudoscalar state is excluded at the 4 sigma level when including both the experimental and theoretical uncertainties. The signal strengths also measure the invisible Higgs decay width which, with the same type of uncertainty analysis, is shown to be Gamma_H^inv / Gamma_H^SM < 0.52 at the 68%CL.
Analysis of the charged multiplicity in proton-proton inelastic interactions at the LHC energies in the setting of Dual Parton Model is presented. Data from the CMS experiment and the data simulated at different energies in various pseudo-rapidity windows using the event generator PYTHIA8are analysed and compared with the calculations from the model. Each inelastic scattering is assumed to follow the Poisson distribution. The theoretical Koba-Nielsen-Olesen (KNO) scaling of the multiplicity distributions is studied and compared with previously published experimental results at $\sqrt{s}$ = 0.9…
We study the impact of anomalous gauge boson and fermion couplings on the production of $W^+W^-$ pairs at potential future LHC upgrades and estimate the sensitivity at $\sqrt{S}=14$ TeV with $3~ab^{-1}$ and $\sqrt{S}=27$ TeV with $15~ab^{-1}$. A general technique for including NLO QCD effects in effective field theory (EFT) fits to kinematic distributions is presented, and numerical results are given for $\sqrt{S}=13$ TeV $W^+W^-$ production. Our method allows fits to anomalous couplings at NLO accuracy in any EFT basis and has been implemented in a publicly available version of the POWHEG-BOX…
We present preliminary results of the first convergent global fits of several minimal composite Higgs models. Our fits are performed using the differential evolution optimisation package $\texttt{Diver}$. A variety of physical constraints are taken into account, including a wide range of exclusion bounds on heavy resonance production from Run 2 of the LHC. As a by-product of the fits, we analyse the collider phenomenology of the lightest new up-type and down-type resonances in the viable regions of our models, finding some low-mass resonances that can be probed in future collider searches.
Doubly charged scalars are common figures in several beyond the Standard Model studies, especially those related to neutrino masses. In this work, we estimate the High-Luminosity (HL-LHC) and High-Energy LHC (HE-LHC) sensitivity to doubly charged scalars assuming they decay promptly and exclusively into charged leptons. Our study focuses on the fit to the same-sign dilepton mass spectra and it is based on proton-proton collisions at $13$ TeV, $14$ TeV and $27$ TeV with integrated luminosity of $\mathcal{L}=139 fb^{-1}, 3 $ab$^{-1}$ and $15$ab$^{-1}$. We find that HL-LHC may probe doubly charge…
We present a new methodology that is able to yield a simultaneous determination of the Parton Distribution Functions (PDFs) of the proton alongside any set of parameters that determine the theory predictions; whether within the Standard Model (SM) or beyond it. The SIMUnet methodology is based on an extension of the NNPDF4.0 neural network architecture, which allows the addition of an extra layer to simultaneously determine PDFs alongside an arbitrary number of such parameters. We illustrate its capabilities by simultaneously fitting PDFs with a subset of Wilson coefficients within the Standar…
Giovannini's parton branching equation is integrated numerically using the 4th-order Runge-Kutta method. Using a simple hadronisation model, a charged-hadron multiplicity distribution is obtained. This model is then fitted to various experimental data up to the TeV scale to study how the Giovannini parameters vary with collision energy and type. The model is able to describe hadronic collisions up to the TeV scale and reveals the emergence of gluonic activity as the centre-of-mass energy increases. A prediction is made for $\sqrt{s}$ = 14 TeV.
We update our eikonal fit and comprehensive asymptotic fits to high energy data on proton--proton and antiproton--proton scattering for $σ_{\rm tot}$, $σ_{\rm elas}$, $σ_{\rm inel}$, $ρ$, and $B$. The fits include the new TOTEM values of total proton-proton cross section, $ρ$, and $B$ at $W=\sqrt{s}$ = 13 TeV and the Telescope Array value of the total proton-proton cross section at $W=\sqrt{s}$ = 95 TeV, data from the latest measurements of the inelastic cross sections at $W$= 8 TeV (by TOTEM and ATLAS) and 13 TeV (by CMS, ATLAS, and TOTEM). An important new feature of this work is the correct…
Production and decay of up-type and down-type new heavy quarks through anomalous interactions at the LHC
We study the process pp->QVX (where Q=t,b and V=g,gamma,Z) through the anomalous interactions of the new heavy quarks at the LHC. Considering the present limits on the masses and mixings, the signatures of the heavy quark anomalous interactions are discussed and analysed at the LHC for the center of mass energy of 13 TeV. An important sensitivity to anomalous couplings kappa_{g} ^{t'}/Lambda=0.10 TeV^{-1}, kappa_γ^{t'}/Lambda=0.14 TeV^{-1}, kappa_{Z} ^{t'}/Lambda=0.19 TeV^{-1} and kappa_{g} ^{b'}/Lambda=0.15 TeV^{-1}, kappa_{Z} ^{b'}/Lambda=0.19 TeV $^{-1}, kappa_γ^{b'}/Lambda=0.30 TeV$ ^{-1} …
We analyze the potentiality of hadron colliders to search for large extra dimensions via the production of photon pairs. The virtual exchange of Kaluza--Klein gravitons can significantly enhance this processes provided the quantum gravity scale ($M_S$) is in the TeV range. We studied in detail the subprocesses $q \bar{q} \to γγ$ and $g g \to γγ$ taking into account the complete Standard Model and graviton contributions as well as the unitarity constraints. We show that the Tevatron Run II will be able to probe $M_S$ up to 1.5--1.9 TeV at 2$σ$ level, while the LHC can extend this search to 5.3-…
