This brief report studies the behavior of entropy in two recent models of cosmic evolution by J.A.S. Lima, S. Basilakos, and F.E.M. Costa [Phys. Rev. D \underline{86}, 103534 (2012)], and J. A. S. Lima, S. Basilakos, and J. Solá [arXiv:1209.2802]. Both start with an initial de Sitter expansion, go through the conventional radiation and matter dominated eras to be followed by a final and everlasting de Sitter expansion. In spite of their outward similarities (from the observational viewpoint they are arbitrary close to the conventional $Λ$CDM model), they deeply differ in the physics behind them. Our study reveals that in both cases the universe approaches thermodynamic equilibrium in the last de Sitter era in the sense that the entropy of the apparent horizon plus that of matter and radiation inside it increases and is concave. Accordingly, they are consistent with thermodynamics. Cosmological models that do not approach equilibrium at the last phase of their evolution appear in conflict with the second law of thermodynamics.
Our aim is studying the thermodynamics of cosmological models including initial and final de-Sitter eras. For this propose, bearing Cai-Kim temperature in mind, we investigate the thermodynamic properties of a dark energy candidate with variable energy density, and show that the state parameter of this dark energy candidate should obey the $ω_D\neq-1$ constraint, whiles there is no interaction between the fluids filled the universe, and the universe is not in the de-Sitter eras. Additionally, based on thermal fluctuation theory, we study the possibility of inducing fluctuations to the entropy …
In this work we examine the effects of a pre-inflationary de Sitter bounce on the energy spectrum of the primordial gravitational waves. Specifically we assume that the Universe is described by several evolution patches, starting with a de Sitter pre-inflationary bounce which is followed by an quasi-de Sitter slow-roll inflationary era, followed by a constant equation of state parameter abnormal reheating era, which is followed by the radiation and matter domination eras and the late-time acceleration eras. The bounce and the inflationary era can be realized by vacuum $f(R)$ gravity and the ab…
Entropy is a fundamental concept from Thermodynamics and it can be used to study models on context of Creation Cold Dark Matter (CCDM). From conditions on the first ($\dot{S}\geq0$)\footnote{Throughout the present work we will use dots to indicate time derivatives and dashes to indicate derivatives with respect to scale factor.} and second order ($\ddot{S}<0$) time derivatives of total entropy in the initial expansion of Sitter through the radiation and matter eras until the end of Sitter expansion, it is possible to estimate the intervals of parameters. The total entropy ($S_{t}$) is calculat…
In the present lore of cosmology, matter and space-time emerged from a singularity and evolved through four different regimes: inflation, radiation, dark matter and dark energy dominated eras. In the radiation and dark matter dominated stages, the expansion of the Universe decelerates while the inflation and dark energy eras are accelerating regimes. So far there is no clear cut connection between these accelerating periods. More intriguing, the substance driving the present accelerating stage remains a mystery, and the best available candidate (vacuum energy density) is plagued with the coinc…
The aim of this paper is to reconstruct and analyze the stability of some cosmological models against linear perturbations in $f(\mathcal{G},T)$ gravity ($\mathcal{G}$ and $T$ represent the Gauss-Bonnet invariant and trace of the energy-momentum tensor, respectively). We formulate the field equations for both general as well as particular cases in the context of isotropic and homogeneous universe model. We reproduce the cosmic evolution corresponding to de Sitter universe, power-law solutions and phantom/non-phantom eras in this theory using reconstruction technique. Finally, we study stabilit…
Morrow-Jones and Witt have shown that generic spatial topologies admit initial data that evolve to locally de Sitter spacetimes under Einstein's equations. We simplify their arguments, make them a little more general, and solve for the global time evolution of the wormhole initial data considered by them. Finally we give explicit examples of locally de Sitter domains of development whose universal covers cannot be embedded in de Sitter space.
The thermodynamic behavior of a decaying vacuum cosmology describing the entire cosmological history evolving between two extreme (early and late time) de Sitter eras is investigated. The thermal evolution from the early de Sitter to the radiation phase is discussed in detail. The temperature evolution law and the increasing entropy function are analytically determined. The entropy of the effectively massless particles is initially zero but evolves continuously to the present day maximum value within the current Hubble radius, $S_0 \sim 10^{88}$ in natural units. By using the Gibbons-Hawking t…
In the background of a flat homogeneous and isotropic space-time, we consider a scenario of the universe driven by the gravitationally induced `adiabatic' particle production with constant creation rate. We have shown that this universe attains a big bang singularity in the past and at late-time it asymptotically becomes de Sitter. To clarify this model universe, we perform a dynamical analysis and found that the universe attains a thermodynamic equilibrium in this late de Sitter phase. Finally, for the first time, we have discussed the possible effects of `adiabatic' particle creations in the…
The massless minimally coupled scalar field in de Sitter ambient space formalism might play a similar role to what the Higgs scalar field accomplishes within the electroweak standard model. With the introduction of a "local transformation" for this field, the interaction Lagrangian between the scalar field and the spinor field can be made similar to a gauge theory. In the null curvature limit, the Yukawa potential can be constructed from that Lagrangian. Finally the one-loop correction of the scalar-spinor interaction is presented, which is free of any infrared divergence.
We study the nonlinear evolution of the spherical symmetric black holes under a small neutral scalar field perturbation in Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton theory with coupling function $f(ϕ)=e^{-bϕ}$ in asymptotic anti-de Sitter spacetime. The non-minimal coupling between scalar and Maxwell fields allows the transmission of the energy from the Maxwell field to the scalar field, but also behaves as a repulsive force for the scalar. The scalar field oscillates with damping amplitude and converges to a final value by a power law. The irreducible mass of the black hole increases abruptly at initial times…
We investigate instability of 4-dimensional Reissner-Nordström-anti-de Sitter (RN-AdS$_4$) black holes with various topologies by charged scalar field perturbations. We numerically find that the RN-AdS$_4$ black holes become unstable against the linear perturbations below a critical temperature. It is analytically shown that charge extraction from the black holes occurs during the unstable evolution. To explore the end state of the instability, we perturbatively construct static black hole solutions with the scalar hair near the critical temperature. It is numerically found that the entropy of…
The physics of tunneling from one spacetime into another is often understood in terms of instantons. For some instantons, it was recently shown in the literature that there are two complementary "interpretations" for their analytic continuations. Dubbed "something-to-something" and "nothing-to-something" interpretations, respectively, the former involves situation in which the initial and final hypersurfaces are connected by a Euclidean manifold, whereas the initial and final hypersurfaces in the latter case are not connected in such a way. We consider a de Sitter space with real projective sp…
Viable models of modified gravity which satisfy both local as well as cosmological tests are investigated. It is demonstrated that some versions of such highly non-linear models exhibit multiply de Sitter universe solutions, which often appear in pairs, being one of them stable and the other unstable. It is explicitly shown that, for some values of the parameters, it is possible to find several de Sitter spaces (as a rule, numerically); one of them may serve for the inflationary stage, while the other can be used for the description of the dark energy epoch. The numerical evolution of the effe…
A nonminimally coupled hybrid dark energy model is introduced. The dark energy evolution is triggered by mass varying neutrinos. Quintessence evolution begins from an initial point, with an insignificant dark energy density, and arrives at a final de Sitter attractor. While initially, for a Higgs-like potential, the non-minimal coupling keeps the system in a state with negligible dark energy density, finally the second quintessence conducts the evolution to a stable fixed point. These evolutions occur through successive $Z_2$ symmetry breakings.
We propose to embed de Sitter space into five dimensional anti-de Sitter space to compute some physical quantities of interest, using the AdS/CFT correspondence. The static de Sitter can be considered as the conformal structure of the boundary of the hyperbolic AdS5 with a horizon, thus energy as well as entropy can be computed. The global dS can be embedded into a half-global AdS5, and the dS entropy can be regarded as entanglement entropy in this case. Finally, the inflationary dS can also be regarded as the boundary of AdS5, and this can be extended to include general cosmology with a posit…
We construct the classification scheme for all possible evolution scenarios and find the corresponding global geometries for dynamics of a thin spherical vacuum shell in the Schwarzschild-de Sitter metric. This configuration is suitable for the modelling of vacuum bubbles arising during cosmological phase transitions in the early Universe. The distinctive final types of evolution from the local point of view of a rather distant observer are either the unlimited expansion of the shell or its contraction with a formation of black hole (with a central singularity) or wormhole (with a baby univers…
We describe the full nonlinear development of the superradiant instability for a charged massless scalar field, coupled to general relativity and electromagnetism, in the vicinity of a Reissner-Nordstrom-AdS black hole. The presence of the negative cosmological constant provides a natural context for considering perfectly reflecting boundary conditions and studying the dynamics as the scalar field interacts repeatedly with the black hole. At early times, small superradiant perturbations grow as expected from linearized studies. Backreaction then causes the black hole to lose charge and mass un…
We study the quantum-mechanical generation of gravitational waves during inflation on a brane embedded in a five-dimensional anti-de Sitter bulk. To make the problem well-posed, we consider the setup in which both initial and final phases are given by a de Sitter brane with different values of the Hubble expansion rate. Assuming that the quantum state is in a de Sitter invariant vacuum in the initial de Sitter phase, we numerically evaluate the amplitude of quantum fluctuations of the growing solution of the zero mode in the final de Sitter phase. We find that the vacuum fluctuations of the in…
Modified gravity and generalized second law (GSL) of thermodynamics are interesting topics in the modern cosmology. In this regard, we investigate the GSL of gravitational thermodynamics in the framework of modified Gauss-Bonnet gravity or f(G)-gravity. We consider a spatially FRW universe filled with the matter and radiation enclosed by the dynamical apparent horizon with the Hawking temperature. For two viable f(G) models, we first numerically solve the set of differential equations governing the dynamics of f(G)-gravity. Then, we obtain the evolutions of the Hubble parameter, the Gauss-Bonn…
Up-to-date, there is no known example of a classical de Sitter solution of string theory, despite several good candidates. We consider here two newly discovered 10d supergravity de Sitter solutions, and analyse in great detail whether they can be promoted to classical string backgrounds. To that end, we identify five requirements to be met, and develop the necessary 10d tools to test the solutions. Eventually, they both fail to verify simultaneously all requirements, in spite of positive partial results. The explicit values obtained offer a clear illustration of the situation, and the analysis…
