We report on a lattice QCD calculation with two dynamical flavors of the isovector vector correlator in the high-temperature phase. We analyze the correlator in terms of the associated spectral function by performing a fit for the difference of the thermal and vacuum spectral functions, using also an exact sum rule that constrains this difference. Additonally we carry out a direct fit for the thermal spectral function, and obtain good agreement between the two analyses for frequencies below the two-pion threshold. Under the assumption that the spectral function is smooth in that region, we give an estimate of the electrical conductivity.
We study the influence of an external magnetic field on the deconfinement transition in two-flavour lattice QCD with physical quark charges. We use dynamical overlap fermions without any approximation such as fixed topology and perform simulations on a $16^3 \times 6$ lattice and at a pion mass around $500MeV$. The pion mass (as well as the lattice spacing) was determined in independent runs on $12^3 \times 24$ lattices. We consider two temperatures, one of which is close to the deconfinement transition and one which is above. Within our limited statistics the dependence of the Polyakov loop a…
We study the deconfinement transition in two-flavour lattice QCD with dynamical overlap fermions. Our simulations have been carried out on a $16^3 \times 6$ lattice at a pion mass around 500 MeV with a special HMC algorithm without any approximation such as fixed topology. We consider several temperatures from 220 MeV which is close to the deconfinement to 280 MeV which is above it. The dependence of the Polyakov loop, the chiral condensate, the Dirac spectra and the connected part of chiral susceptibility on the inverse gauge coupling has been studied. Our data indicates that the transition p…
QCD at zero baryon density in the limit of infinite quark mass undergoes a first order deconfinement phase transition at a critical temperature $T_c$ corresponding to the breaking of the global centre symmetry. In the presence of dynamical quarks this symmetry is explicitly broken. Lowering the quark mass the first order phase transition weakens and terminates in a second order Z(2) point. Beyond this line confined and deconfined regions are analytically connected by a crossover transition. As the continuum limit is approached (i.e. the lattice spacing is decreased) the region of first order t…
Constraining the QCD phase diagram by tricritical lines at imaginary chemical potential
The ${\rm SU}(3)$ pure gauge theory exhibits a first-order thermal deconfinement transition due to spontaneous breaking of its global $Z_3$ center symmetry. When heavy dynamical quarks are added, this symmetry is broken explicitly and the transition weakens with decreasing quark mass until it disappears at a critical point. We compute the critical hopping parameter and the associated pion mass for lattice QCD with $N_f=2$ degenerate standard Wilson fermions on $N_τ\in\{6,8,10\}$ lattices, corresponding to lattice spacings $a=0.12\, {\rm fm}$, $a=0.09\, {\rm fm}$, $a=0.07\, {\rm fm}$, respectiv…
I discuss the deconfinement transition in 2+1 flavor QCD in terms of Polyakov loops as well as the hadron resonance gas for hadrons containing static quarks and charm quarks.
It is expected that nucleons and their parity partners become degenerate when chiral symmetry is restored. We investigate this question in the context of the thermal transition from the hadronic phase to the quark-gluon plasma, using lattice QCD simulations with N_f=2+1 flavours. We observe a clear sign of parity doubling in the quark-gluon plasma. Besides, we find that the nucleon ground state is, within the uncertainty, largely independent of the temperature, whereas temperature effects are substantial in the negative-parity (N^*) channel, already in the confined phase.
The confinement-deconfinement transition is discussed from topological viewpoints. The topological change of the system is achieved by introducing the dimensionless imaginary chemical potential ($θ$). Then, the non-trivial free-energy degeneracy becomes the signal of the deconfinement transition and it can be visualized by using the map of the thermodynamic quantities to the circle $S^1$ along $θ$. To understand this "topological" deconfinement transition at finite real quark chemical potential ($μ_\mathrm{R}$), we consider the isospin chemical potential ($μ_\mathrm{iso}$) in the effective mod…
We study the behavior across the deconfinement phase transition of the chromoelectric flux tube generated by a static quark and a static antiquark for several distances between them. We present preliminary results for distances up to 1.33 fm and temperatures up to $1.5 T_c$.
We discuss the entropy carried by a quark-antiquark pair, in particular across the deconfinement transition. We therefore rely on a self-consistent solution to Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton gravity, capable of mimicking essential features of QCD. In particular we introduce a novel model that still captures well the QCD confinement and deconfinement phases, while allowing the introduction of a temperature in a phase which resembles the confined phase, this thanks to it being dual to a small black hole. We pay due attention to some subtleties of such model. We confirm the lattice picture of a strong …
We extend previous work on dynamical AdS/QCD models by introducing an extra ingredient under the form of a background magnetic field, this to gain insight into the influence such field can have on crucial QCD observables. Therefore, we construct a closed form analytic solution to an Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton system with a magnetic field. We specifically focus on the deconfinement transition, reporting inverse magnetic catalysis, and on the string tension, reporting a weaker/stronger confinement along/perpendicular to the magnetic field. The latter, being of importance to potential modelling of …
We investigate instantons in finite temperature QCD via Witten's holographic QCD. To study the deconfinement phase, we use the setup proposed in [1] (arXiv:1107.4048). We find that the sizes of the instantons are stabilized at certain values both in the confinement and deconfinement phases. This agrees with the numerical result in the lattice gauge theory. Besides we find that the gravity duals of the large and small instantons in the deconfinement phase have different topologies. We also argue that the fluctuation of the topological charges is large in confinement phase while it is exponentia…
We study the problems of deconfinement, chiral symmetry restoration and localisation of the low Dirac eigenmodes in a toy model of QCD, namely unimproved staggered fermions on lattices of temporal extension $N_T=4$. This model displays a genuine deconfining and chirally-restoring first-order phase transition at some critical value of the gauge coupling. Our results indicate that the onset of localisation of the lowest Dirac eigenmodes takes place at the same critical coupling where the system undergoes the first-order phase transition. This provides further evidence of the close relation betwe…
We compare the predictions of Nambu-Goto effective string model at two loop-order for the Casimir energy and the width of the quantum delocalization of the string to the corresponding quark-antiquark potential and width profile of the color tube in pure SU (3) Yang-Mills LGT at 4-dimensions near the deconfinement point. Minor effects are returned, when considering NLO terms for both the $Q\bar{Q}$ potential and broadening of the color tube, at the temperature $T/T_c= 0.8$. At a closer temperature to the critical point $T/T_c$= 0.9, we found that the NLO contributions, from the expansion of the…
