Let $M$ be a manifold with ends constructed in \cite{GS} and $Δ$ be the Laplace-Beltrami operator on $M$. In this note, we show the weak type $(1,1)$ and $L^p$ boundedness of the Hardy-Littlewood maximal function and of the maximal function associated with the heat semigroup $\M_Δf(x)=\sup_{t> 0} |\exp (-tΔ)f(x)| $ on $L^p(M)$ for $1 < p \le \infty$. The significance of these results comes from the fact that $M$ does not satisfies the doubling condition.
We investigate properties of pseudodifferential operators on $L^2$ space on manifold with ends including asymptotically conical or hyperbolic ends. Our pseudodifferential operators are a generalization of the canonical quantization which naturally appears in the quantum mechanics on curved spaces. We prove a Calderón-Vaillancourt type theorem for our pseudodifferential operators and discuss a construction of parametrix of elliptic differential operators on manifolds with ends.
In the context of variable exponent Lebesgue spaces equipped with a lower Ahlfors measure we obtain weighted norm inequalities over bounded domains for the centered fractional maximal function and the fractional integral operator.
Let $Δ$ be the Laplace--Beltrami operator acting on a non-doubling manifold with two ends $\mathbb R^m \sharp \mathcal R^n$ with $m > n \ge 3$. Let $\frak{h}_t(x,y)$ be the kernels of the semigroup $e^{-tΔ}$ generated by $Δ$. We say that a non-negative self-adjoint operator $L$ on $L^2(\mathbb R^m \sharp \mathcal R^n)$ has a heat kernel with upper bound of Gaussian type if the kernel $h_t(x,y)$ of the semigroup $e^{-tL}$ satisfies $ h_t(x,y) \le C \frak{h}_{αt}(x,y)$ for some constants $C$ and $α$. This class of operators includes the Schrödinger operator $L = Δ+ V$ where $V$ is an arbitrary n…
We give a short, simple proof of maximal regularity for linear parabolic evolution equations on manifolds with cylindrical ends by making use of pseudodifferential parametrices and the concept of R-boundedness for the resolvent.
Consider a non-doubling manifold with ends $M = \mathfrak{R}^{n}\sharp\, {\mathbb R}^{m}$ where $\mathfrak{R}^n=\mathbb{R}^n\times \mathbb{S}^{m-n}$ for $m> n \ge 3$. We say that an operator $L$ has a generalised Poisson kernel if $\sqrt{ L}$ generates a semigroup $e^{-t\sqrt{L}}$ whose kernel $p_t(x,y)$ has an upper bound similar to the kernel of $e^{-t\sqrtΔ}$ where $Δ$ is the Laplace-Beltrami operator on $M$. An example for operators with generalised Gaussian bounds is the Schrödinger operator $L = Δ+ V$ where $V$ is an arbitrary non-negative locally integrable potential. In this paper, our…
For a class of non compact Riemannian manifolds with ends, we give pseudo-differential expansions of bounded functions of the semi-classical Laplacian and study related Lp boundedness properties.
Let $M$ be a smooth Riemannian manifold which is the union of a compact part and a finite number of Euclidean ends, $\RR^n \setminus B(0,R)$ for some $R > 0$, each of which carries the standard metric. Our main result is that the Riesz transform on $M$ is bounded from $L^p(M) \to L^p(M; T^*M)$ for $1 < p < n$ and unbounded for $p \geq n$ if there is more than one end. It follows from known results that in such a case the Riesz transform on $M$ is bounded for $1 < p \leq 2$ and unbounded for $p > n$; the result is new for $2 < p \leq n$. We also give some heat kernel estimates on such manifolds…
Hardy Spaces Associated with Non-Negative Self-Adjoint Operators and Ball Quasi-Banach Function Spaces on Doubling Metric Measure Spaces and Their Applications
We consider a class of manifolds $\mathcal{M}$ obtained by taking the connected sum of a finite number of $N$-dimensional Riemannian manifolds of the form $(\mathbb{R}^{n_i}, δ) \times (\mathcal{M}_i, g)$, where $\mathcal{M}_i$ is a compact manifold, with the product metric. The case of greatest interest is when the Euclidean dimensions $n_i$ are not all equal. This means that the ends have different `asymptotic dimension', and implies that the Riemannian manifold $\mathcal{M}$ is not a doubling space. We completely describe the range of exponents $p$ for which the Riesz transform on $\mathcal…
By seeing whether a Liouville type theorem holds for positive, bounded, and/or finite energy $p$-harmonic and $p$-quasiharmonic functions, we classify proper metric spaces equipped with a locally doubling measure supporting a local $p$-Poincaré inequality. Similar classifications have earlier been obtained for Riemann surfaces and Riemannian manifolds. We also study the inclusions between these classes of metric measure spaces, and their relationship to the $p$-hyperbolicity of the metric space and its ends. In particular, we characterize spaces that carry nonconstant $p$-harmonic functions wi…
Let $M$ be a complete non-compact manifold satisfying the volume doubling condition, with doubling index $N$ and reverse doubling index $n$, $n\le N$, both for large balls. Assume a Gaussian upper bound for the heat kernel, and an $L^2$-Poincaré inequality outside a compact set. If $2<n$, then we show that for $p\in (2,n)$, $(R_p)$: $L^p$-boundedness of the Riesz transform, $(G_p)$: $L^p$-boundedness of the gradient of the heat semigroup, and $(RH_p)$: reverse $L^p$-Hölder inequality for the gradient of harmonic functions, are equivalent to each other. Our characterization implies that for $p\…
In this paper, we show the equivalence between the boundedness of the Riesz transform $dΔ^{-1/2}$ on $L^p$, $p\in (2,p_0)$, and the equality $H^p=L^p$, $p\in(2,p_0)$, in the class of manifold whose measure is doubling and for which the scaled Poincaré inequalities hold. Here, $H^p$ is a Hardy space of exact $1-$forms, naturally associated with the Riesz transform.
Let $M$ be a complete non-compact Riemannian manifold satisfying the doubling volume property as well as a Gaussian upper bound for the corresponding heat kernel. We study the boundedness of the Riesz transform $dΔ^{-\frac{1}{2}}$ on both Hardy spaces $H^p$ and Lebesgue spaces $L^p$ under two different conditions on the negative part of the Ricci curvature $R^-$. First we prove that if $R^-$ is $α$-subcritical for some $α\in [0,1)$, then the Riesz transform $d^*Δ^{-\frac{1}{2}}$ on differential $1$-forms is bounded from the associated Hardy space $H^p_{\overrightarrowΔ}(Λ^1T^*M)$ to $L^p(M)$ f…
Let $M$ be a complete non-compact Riemannian manifold satisfying the doubling volume property. Let $\overrightarrowΔ$ be the Hodge-de Rham Laplacian acting on 1-differential forms. According to the Bochner formula, $\overrightarrowΔ=\nabla^*\nabla+R_+-R_-$ where $R_+$ and $R_-$ are respectively the positive and negative part of the Ricci curvature and $\nabla$ is the Levi-Civita connection. We study the boundedness of the Riesz transform $d^*(\overrightarrowΔ)^{-\frac{1}{/2}}$ from $L^p(Λ^1T^*M)$ to $L^p(M)$ and of the Riesz transform $d(\overrightarrowΔ)^{-\frac{1}{2}}$ from $L^p(Λ^1T^*M)$ to…

This article was written in 2005 and subsequently lost (at least by the third author). Recently it resurfaced due to one of the colleagues to whom a hard copy has been sent in 2005. We consider here a problem of finding necessary and sufficient conditions for the boundedness of two weight Calderón-Zygmund operators. We give such necessary and sufficient conditions in very natural terms, if the operator is the Hilbert transform, and the weights satisfy some very natural condition. The condition on weights was lifted in a recent paper of Michael Lacey, Eric Sawyer and Ignacio Uriarte-Tuero: "A c…
Let $(X,d,μ)$ be a space of homogeneous type, with the upper dimension $ω$, in the sense of R. R. Coifman and G. Weiss. Assume that $η$ is the smoothness index of the wavelets on $X$ constructed by P. Auscher and T. Hytönen. In this article, when $p\in(ω/(ω+η),1]$, for the atomic Hardy spaces $H_{\mathrm{cw}}^p(X)$ introduced by Coifman and Weiss, the authors establish their various real-variable characterizations, respectively, in terms of the grand maximal function, the radial maximal function, the non-tangential maximal functions, the various Littlewood-Paley functions and wavelet functions…
Let $({\mathcal X},ρ,μ)$ be a space of homogeneous type in the sense of Coifman and Weiss, and $Y({\mathcal X})$ a ball quasi-Banach function space on ${\mathcal X}$, which supports a Fefferman--Stein vector-valued maximal inequality, and the boundedness of the powered Hardy--Littlewood maximal operator on its associate space. The authors first introduce the Hardy space $H_{Y}^*({\mathcal X})$, associated with $Y({\mathcal X})$, via the grand maximal function, and then establish its various real-variable characterizations, respectively, in terms of radial or non-tangential maximal functions, a…
