The roles of light $ρ$ and $ω$ vector mesons in the Skyrmion are investigated in a chiral Lagrangian derived from the hidden local symmetry (HLS) up to $O(p^4)$ including the homogeneous Wess-Zumino (hWZ) terms. We write a general "master formula" that allows us to determine the parameters of the HLS Lagrangian from a class of holographic QCD models valid at large $N_c$ and $λ$ ('t Hooft constant) limit by integrating out the infinite towers of vector and axial-vector mesons other than the lowest $ρ$ and $ω$ mesons. Within this approach we find that the physical properties of the Skyrmion as the solitonic description of baryons are \textit{independent} of the HLS parameter $a$. Therefore the only parameters of the model are the pion decay constant and the vector meson mass. Once determined in the meson sector, we have a totally parameter-free theory that allows us to study unequivocally the role of light vector mesons in the Skyrmion structure. We find, as suggested by Sutcliffe, that inclusion of the $ρ$ meson reduces the soliton mass, which makes the Skyrmion come closer to the Bogomol'nyi-Prasad-Sommerfield (BPS) soliton, but the role of the $ω$ meson is found to increase the soliton mass. In a stark contrast, the $Δ$-$N$ mass difference, which is determined by the moment of inertia in adiabatic collective quantization of the Skyrmion, is increased by the $ρ$ vector meson, while it is reduced by the inclusion of the $ω$ meson. All these observations show the importance of the $ω$ meson in the properties of the nucleon and nuclear matter in the Skyrme model.
In order to develop a model that can describe both a single baryon and multi-baryon systems on the same footing, we re-investigate the Skyrme model in a chiral Lagrangian derived from the hidden local symmetry (HLS) up to $O(p^4)$ including the homogeneous Wess-Zumino terms. We use the master formulas that connect the parameters of the HLS Lagrangian and a class of holographic QCD models, which provides a controllable way to determine the low-energy constants of the Lagrangian once the pion decay constant and the vector meson mass are given. Therefore, this model allows us to study the role of…
We explore the mass splitting of the heavy-light mesons with chiral partner structure in nuclear matter. In our calculation, we employed the heavy hadron chiral perturbation theory with chiral partner structure and the nuclear matter is constructed by putting skyrmions from the standard Skyrme model onto the face-centered cubic crystal and regarding the skyrmion matter as nuclear matter. We find that, although the masses of the heavy-light mesons with chiral partner structure are splitted in the matter-free space and skyrmion phase, they are degenerated in the half-skyrmion phase in which the …
The inhomogeneous quark condensate, responsible for dynamical chiral symmetry breaking in cold nuclear matter, is studied by putting skyrmions onto the face-centered cubic crystal and treating the skyrmion matter as nuclear matter. By varying the crystal size, we explore the effect of density on the local structure of the quark-antiquark condensate. By endowing the light vector mesons $ρ$ and $ω$ with hidden local symmetry and incorporating a scalar meson as a dilaton of spontaneously broken scale symmetry, we uncover the intricate interplay of heavy mesons in the local structure of the quark …
A chain of connections in compressed baryonic matter, up-to-date glaringly missing in nuclear effective field theory, between intrinsic or emergent symmetries of QCD, mesons-gluons dualities, vector meson dominance and Chern-Simons fields has recently been revealed, presaging a possible new paradigm in nuclear theory. It indicates a ubiquitous role, thus far unexplored, of hidden symmetries -- flavor-local and scale -- permeating from dilute baryonic systems to normal nuclear matter and then to compact-star matter. Here I give a brief account of the possibly "indispensable" relevance of the $η…
We explore the hadron properties in dense baryonic matter in a unified way by using a Skyrme model constructed with an effective Lagrangian which includes the $ρ$ and $ω$ vector mesons as hidden gauge bosons and is valid up to $O(p^4)$ in chiral expansion including the homogeneous Wess-Zumino terms. With the two input values of pion decay constant and the lowest lying vector meson mass which can be fixed in free space, all the other low energy constants in the effective Lagrangian are determined by their master formulas derived from holographic QCD models, which allows us to study the baryonic…
Hadron properties in dense medium are treated in a unified way in a skyrmion model constructed with an effective Lagrangian, in which the rho and omega vector mesons are introduced as hidden gauge bosons, valid up to O(p^4) terms in chiral expansion including the homogeneous Wess-Zumino terms. All the low energy constants - apart from f_pi and m_rho - are fixed by the master formula derived from the relation between 5-D hQCD and 4-D HLS. This allows one to pin down the density n_1/2 at which the skyrmions in medium fractionize into half-skyrmions, bringing in a drastic change in the EoS of den…
The dense baryonic matter and hadron properties in medium were simulated by using a Skyrme model including the ground state vector mesons introduced from the hidden local symmetry approach up to the next to leading order. We found that both the $ρ$ and $ω$ mesons affect the baryonic matter and medium modified hadron properties dramatically. The most remarkable observation is that, the pion decay constant and the nucleon mass have the similar density dependence which agrees with the large $N_c$ argument. Explicitly, they drop with increasing density in the Skyrmion phase and stop decreasing at …
We describe the mapping at high density of topological structure of baryonic matter to a nuclear effective field theory that implements hidden symmetries emergent from strong nuclear correlations. The theory so constructed is found to be consistent with no conflicts with the presently available observations in both normal nuclear matter and compact-star matter. The hidden symmetries involved are "local flavor symmetry" of the vector mesons identified to be (Seiberg-)dual to the gluons of QCD and hidden "quantum scale symmetry" with an IR fixed point with a "genuine dilaton (GD)" characterized …
We review the recent exploration of a possible "domain-wall structure" of compressed baryonic matter in massive compact stars in terms of fractional quantum Hall droplets and skyrmions for baryons in medium. The theoretical framework is anchored on an effective nuclear effective field theory that incorporates two hidden symmetries, flavor local symmetry and scale symmetry conjectured to be dual to the gluons and quarks of QCD. It hints at a basically different, hitherto undiscovered structure of nuclear matter at low as well as high densities. Hidden "genuine dilaton (GD)" symmetry and hidden …
The hadronic matter described as a skyrmion matter embedded in an FCC crystal is found to turn into a half-skyrmion matter with vanishing (in the chiral limit) quark condensate and {\em non-vanishing} pion decay constant at a density $n_{1/2S}$ lower than or at the critical density $n_c^{χSR}$ at which hadronic matter changes over to a chiral symmetry restored phase with deconfined quarks. When hidden local gauge fields and dilaton scalars -- one "soft" and one "hard" -- are incorporated, this phase is characterized by $a=1$, $f_π\neq 0$ with the hidden gauge coupling $g\neq 0$ but $\ll 1$. Wh…
When scale symmetry is implemented into hidden local symmetry in low-energy strong interactions to arrive at a scale-invariant hidden local symmetric (HLS) theory, the scalar $f_0(500)$ may be interpreted as pseudo-Nambu-Goldstone (pNG) boson, i.e., dilaton, of spontaneously broken scale invariance, joining the pseudo-scalar pNG bosons $π$ and the matter fields $V=(ρ,ω)$ as relevant degrees of freedom. Implementing the skyrmion-half-skyrmion transition predicted at large $N_c$ in QCD at a density roughly twice the nuclear matter density found in the crystal simulation of dense skyrmion matter,…
Gerry Brown was a godfather of our hidden local symmetry (HLS) for the vector meson from the birth of the theory throughout his life. The HLS is originated from very nature of the nonlinear realization of the symmetry G based on the manifold G/H, and thus is universal to any physics based on the nonlinear realization. Here I focus on the Higgs Lagrangian of the Standard Model (SM), which is shown to be equivalent to the nonlinear sigma model based on G/H= SU(2)_L x SU(2)_R/SU(2)_V with additional symmetry, the nonlinearly realized scale symmetry. Then the SM does have a dynamical gauge boson o…
We report on some ideas concerning the nature of the X(3872) resonance and the need for approximately equal charged and neutral components of $D \bar{D}^* +cc$. Then we discuss how some hidden charm states are obtained from the interaction between vector mesons with charm and can be associated to some of the charmonium-like X,Y,Z states. Finally we discuss how the nature of these states could be investigated through different types of radiative decay.
The drag and diffusion coefficients of a hot hadronic medium have been evaluated by using hidden charm mesons as probes. The matrix elements for the evaluation of these coefficients are calculated using an effective theory as well as from scattering lengths. Although the transport coefficients show a significant rise with temperature its effects on the suppression of $J/ψ$ in hadronic matter is not significant.
We find that, when the dilaton is implemented as a (pseudo-)Nambu-Goldstone boson using a conformal compensator or "conformon" in a hidden gauge symmetric Lagrangian written to $O(p^4)$ from which baryons arise as solitons, namely, skyrmions, the vector manifestation and chiral symmetry restoration at high density predicted in hidden local symmetry theory --- which is consistent with Brown-Rho scaling --- are lost or sent to infinite density. It is shown that they can be restored if in medium the behavior of the $ω$ field is taken to deviate from that of the $ρ$ meson in such a way that the fl…
Baryonic matter is studied in the Skyrme model by taking into account the roles of $π,$ $ρ$, and $ω$ mesons through the hidden local symmetry up to $\mathcal{O}(p^4)$ terms including the homogeneous Wess-Zumino (hWZ) terms. Using the master formulas for the low energy constants derived from holographic QCD models the skyrmion matter properties can be quantitatively calculated with the input values of the pion decay constant $f_π$ and the vector meson mass $m_ρ^{}$. We find that the hWZ terms are responsible for the repulsive interactions of the $ω$ meson. In addition, the self-consistently inc…
When vector mesons are considered on the same footing as pions as suggested by hidden local symmetry, the property of the nuclear tensor forces is strongly controlled by the behavior of the vector mesons in dense medium. This led to BR scaling in 1991. When baryons as skyrmions are put on crystal, there can be a phase transition from skyrmions to half-skyrmions at a density above that of normal nuclear matter. This topology change can induce fundamental changes to the parameters in hidden local symmetric Lagrangian, hence BR scaling, and brings a drastic modification to the structure of nuclea…
We show that the cusp-like structure in the nuclear symmetry energy, a consequence of topology change, visible in the skyrmion lattice description of dense matter is extremely robust. It is present in the Skyrme model -- with the pion field only -- and is left unscathed by massive degrees of freedom such as the vector mesons $ρ$ and $ω$ and also the scalar meson introduced as a dilaton. It leads to the emergence of parity-doubling at the skyrmion-half-skyrmion transition and impacts on the nuclear symmetry energy "wilderness" landscape, weeding out roughly half of the wilderness. It is shown t…
Skyrmions are extended field configurations, initially proposed to describe baryons as topological solitons in an effective field theory of mesons. We investigate and confirm the existence of skyrmions within the electroweak sector of the Standard Model and study their properties. We find that the interplay of the electroweak sector with a dynamical Higgs field and the Skyrme term leads to a non-trivial vacuum structure with the skyrmion and perturbative vacuum sectors separated by a finite energy barrier. We identify dimension-8 operators that stabilise the electroweak skyrmion as a spatially…
The Chiral Dilaton Model, where baryons arise as non-topological solitons built from the interaction of quarks and chiral mesons, shows in the high density low temperature regime a two phase scenario in the nuclear matter phase diagram. Dense soliton matter described by the Wigner-Seitz approximation generates a periodic potential in terms of the sigma and pion fields that leads to the formation of a band structure. The analysis up to three times nuclear matter density shows that soliton matter undergoes two separate phase transitions: a delocalization of the baryon number density leading to $…
We further explore a recent proposal that the vector mesons in QCD have a special role as Chern-Simons fields on various QCD objects such as domain walls and the one flavored baryons. We compute contributions to domain wall theories and to the baryon current coming from a generalized Wess-Zumino term including vector mesons. The conditions that lead to the expected Chern-Simons terms and the correct spectrum of baryons, coincide with the conditions for vector meson dominance. This observation provides a theoretical explanation to the phenomenological principle of vector dominance, as well as a…
It is shown that explicitly broken scale symmetry is essential for dense skyrmion matter in hidden local symmetry theory. Consistency with the vector manifestation fixed point for the hidden local symmetry of the lowest-lying vector mesons and the dilaton limit fixed point for scale symmetry in dense matter is found to require that the anomalous dimension ($γ_{G^2}$) of the gluon field strength tensor squared ($G^2$) that represents the quantum trace anomaly should be $0 <γ_{G^2} <3$.
We study the effects of light scalar mesons on the skyrmion properties by constructing and examining a mesonic model including pion, rho meson, and omega meson fields as well as two-quark and four-quark scalar meson fields. In our model, the physical scalar mesons are defined as mixing states of the two- and four-quark fields. We first omit the four-quark scalar meson field from the model and find that when there is no direct coupling between the two-quark scalar meson and the vector mesons, the soliton mass is smaller and the soliton size is larger for lighter scalar mesons; when direct coupl…
We study photoproduction of rho mesons in a model of hidden local symmetry. The rho meson is introduced as a hidden gauge boson and a phenomenological rho meson-nucleon Lagrangian is constructed respecting chiral symmetry. It is shown that the sigma exchange interaction is needed for neutral rho meson photoproduction to reproduce the experimental cross sections. For charged rho meson photoproduction, the model takes into account the rho meson magnetic moments from the three-point vertex in the kinetic terms. We show that the magnetic moment of the charged rho meson has a significant effect on …
In this talk we summarize our latest results on the study of three-body systems with explicit/hidden charm and with strangeness. In particular, we focus on the $K D D $ and $K D\bar D^*$ systems, where a charm $+2$, isospin $1/2$ and strangeness $+1$ state is found with a mass around 4140 MeV in the former and a $K^*$ state, with hidden charm, at a mass around 4307 MeV is obtained in the latter. Both states are predictions of our model and the experimental confirmation of them would be important to understand the properties of the strong interaction in the presence of heavy quarks.
Masses of open- and hidden-charm tetra-quark scalar mesons are studied in a new approach. As the result, newly estimated masses of hidden-charm sector are significantly lower than our earier ones by a naive quark counting. In particular, our new result on the non-strange iso-triplet scalar mesons should be compared with the experiment that an indication of tiny eta pi peak around 3.2 GeV has been observed, while no signal in the eta_c pi channel.
The description of the heavy baryons as heavy-meson--soliton bound systems is reviewed. We outline how such bound systems arise from effective lagrangians that respect both chiral symmetry and heavy quark symmetry. Effects due to finite heavy quark masses are also discussed, and the resulting heavy baryon spectra are compared with existing quark model and empirical results. Finally, we address some issues related to a possible connection between the usual bound state approach to strange hyperons and that for heavier baryons.
We briefly review the generalized Skyrmion model for the baryon recently suggested by us. It takes into account the tower of vector and axial mesons as well as the chiral symmetry breaking. The generalized Skyrmion model provides the qualitative explanation of the Ioffe's formula for the baryon mass.
Inspired by the recent discovery of the pentaquark states $P_c(4450)$ and $P_c(4380)$, which can be viewed as excited nucleon states with hidden charm, we study the three-body interaction of a kaon and a pair of $D\bar{D}^*$ in isospin 0 and 1. We show that the two body interactions stringently constrained by the existence of the $D_{s0}^*(2317)$, $D^*_{s1}(2460)$, $X(3872)$, and $Z_c(3900)$, which are widely believed to contain large $DK$, $D^* K$, and $D\bar{D}^*$ components, inevitably lead to the existence of a heavy $K^*$ meson with hidden charm. Concrete coupled channel three-body calcul…
In this paper, we investigate the hidden-charm pentaquarks as $\bar{D}^{(\ast)}Λ_{\rm c}$ and $\bar{D}^{(\ast)}Σ^{(\ast)}_{\rm c}$ molecules coupled to the five-quark states. Furthermore, we extend our calculations to the hidden-bottom sector. The coupling to the five-quark states is treated as the short range potential, where the relative strength for the meson-baryon channels is determined by the structure of the five-quark states. We found that resonant and/or bound states appear in both the charm and bottom sectors. The five-quark state potential turned out to be attractive and, for this r…
We describe the on-going effort to formulate the baryon-quark continuity in terms of a topology change in the equation of state (EoS) of dense baryonic matter in analogy to -- and inspired by -- the mapping of the characteristics of Chern-Simon topological field theory to Kohn-Sham density functional theory in the fractional quantized Hall effect (FQHE). This is done by translating the density-dependent characteristics of the skyrmion-half-skyrmion transition formulated in the presence of hidden local symmetry and (hidden) scale symmetry to the density-dependent parameters of a renormalization…
We discuss the magnetic responses of vector meson masses based on the hidden local symmetry (HLS) model in constant magnetic field, described by the lightest two-flavor system including the pion, rho and omega mesons in the spectrum. The effective masses influenced under the magnetic field are evaluated in a way of the derivative/chiral expansion established in the HLS model. At the leading order O(p^2) the g-factor of the charged rho meson is fixed to be 2, implying that the rho meson at this order is treated just like a point-like spin-1 particle. Beyond the leading order, one finds anomalou…
We report on a robust prediction of heavy $K^*$ meson by solving the Faddeev equations with fixed-center approximation for the three-body $KD\bar{D}^*$ system. As the excited Kaon state, $K^*$ is an exotic hidden charm meson with $M-iΓ/2=4307\pm2-i9\pm2$ MeV and $I(J^P)=1/2(1^-)$. We further performed the evaluation of the decay width of $K^*(4307)$ to the open two-body channels. We expect that the above findings inspire an experimental investigation of this exotic $K^*$ meson and to study the so far unexplored heavy strange meson sector.
In this work we study the implications of light-quark pionic matter at finite temperatures on the properties of open and hidden charm mesons. The meson-meson interactions are described by means of a chiral unitary approach accounting for coupled channels effects. The in-medium Lippmann-Schwinger Equations, which consider the change in self-energy that the mesons acquire from interacting with the surrounding pionic matter, are solved self-consistently, and the spectral functions of the mesons in the hot pion bath are obtained. It is observed that the charmed mesons develop a quite substantial p…
