According to some generalized correspondence principle the classical limit of a non-Hermitian Quantum theory describing quantum degrees of freedom is expected to be well known classical mechanics of classical degrees of freedom in the complex phase space, i.e., some phase space spanned by complex-valued space and momentum coordinates. As special relativity has been developed by Einstein merely for real-valued space-time and four-momentum we will try to understand how special relativity and covariance can be extended to complex-valued space-time and four-momentum. Our considerations will lead us not only to some unconventional derivation of Lorentz transformations for complex-valued velocities, yet also to the non-Hermitian Klein-Gordon and Dirac equations which are to lay the foundations of a non-Hermitian quantum theory.
We consider asymptotic behavior of the correlation functions of the characteristic polynomials of the hermitian sample covariance matrices $H_n=n^{-1}A_{m,n}^*A_{m,n}$, where $A_{m,n}$ is a $m\times n$ complex matrix with independent and identically distributed entries $\Re a_{αj}$ and $\Im a_{αj}$. We show that for the correlation function of any even order the asymptotic behavior in the bulk and at the edge of the spectrum coincides with those for the Gaussian Unitary Ensemble up to a factor, depending only on the fourth moment of the common probability law of entries $\Re a_{αj}$, $\Im a_{α…
The descripition of in a Hermitian setting seemingly nonlocal and nonperturbative phenomena like confinement or superconductivity is most conveniently performed by generalizing quantum theory to a non-Hermitian regime where these phenomena appear perturbative and local. The short presentation provides a clue how this can be done on the basis of Lorentz covariance while preserving the analyticity of the theory. After deriving with the help of Lorentz covariance a quantum scalar product without making any use of metric or complex conjugation we sketch how the formalism of scattering theory can b…
We characterize the subclass of quasianti-Hermitian quaternionic Hamiltonian dynamics such that their complex projections are one-parameter semigroup dynamics in the space of complex quasi-Hermitian density matrices. As an example, the complex projection of a spin-1/2 system in a constant quasianti-Hermitian quaternionic potential is considered.
The powerful group theoretical formalism of potential algebras is extended to non-Hermitian Hamiltonians with real eigenvalues by complexifying so(2,1), thereby getting the complex algebra sl(2,\C) or $A_1$. This leads to new types of both PT-symmetric and non-PT-symmetric Hamiltonians.
Potential algebras are extended from Hermitian to non-Hermitian Hamiltonians and shown to provide an elegant method for studying the transition from real to complex eigenvalues for a class of non-Hermitian Hamiltonians associated with the complex Lie algebra A$_1$.
We start with quasi-exactly solvable (QES) Hermitian (and hence real) as well as complex PT-invariant, double sinh-Gordon potential and show that even after adding perturbation terms, the resulting potentials, in both cases, are still QES potentials. Further, by using anti-isospectral transformations, we obtain Hermitian as well as PT-invariant complex QES periodic potentials. We study in detail the various properties of the corresponding Bender-Dunne polynomials.
In this paper we show that the non-Hermitian Hamiltonians $H=p^{2}-gx^{4}+a/x^2$ and the conventional Hermitian Hamiltonians $h=p^2+4gx^{4}+bx$ ($a,b\in \mathbb{R}$) are isospectral if $a=(b^2-4g\hbar^2)/16g$ and $a\geq -\hbar^2/4$. This new class includes the equivalent non-Hermitian - Hermitian Hamiltonian pair, $p^{2}-gx^{4}$ and $p^{2}+4gx^{4}-2\hbar \sqrt{g}x,$ found by Jones and Mateo six years ago as a special case. When $a=\left(b^{2}-4g\hbar ^{2}\right) /16g$ and $a<-\hbar^2/4,$ although $h$ and $H$ are still isospectral, $b$ is complex and $h$ is no longer the Hermitian counterpart o…
We show that complex Lie algebras (in particular sl(2,C)) provide us with an elegant method for studying the transition from real to complex eigenvalues of a class of non-Hermitian Hamiltonians: complexified Scarf II, generalized Pöschl-Teller, and Morse. The characterizations of these Hamiltonians under the so-called pseudo-Hermiticity are also discussed.
The statistical properties of trajectories of eigenvalues of Gaussian complex matrices whose Hermitian condition is progressively broken are investigated. It is shown how the ordering on the real axis of the real eigenvalues is reflected in the structure of the trajectories and also in the final distribution of the eigenvalues in the complex plane.
We consider $n^2\times n^2$ real symmetric and hermitian matrices $M_n$, which are equal to sum of $m_n$ tensor products of vectors $X^μ=B(Y^μ\otimes Y^μ)$, $μ=1,\dots,m_n$, where $Y^μ$ are i.i.d. random vectors from $\mathbb R^n (\mathbb C^n)$ with zero mean and unit variance of components, and $B$ is an $n^2\times n^2$ positive definite non-random matrix. We prove that if $m_n/n^2\to c\in [0,+\infty)$ and the Normalized Counting Measure of eigenvalues of $BJB$, where $J$ is defined below, converges weakly, then the Normalized Counting Measure of eigenvalues of $M_n$ converges weakly in proba…
This paper contains a thorough study of the trigonometry of the homogeneous symmetric spaces in the Cayley-Klein-Dickson family of spaces of 'complex Hermitian' type and rank-one. The complex Hermitian elliptic CP^N and hyperbolic CH^N spaces, their analogues with indefinite Hermitian metric and some non-compact symmetric spaces associated to SL(N+1,R) are the generic members in this family. The method encapsulates trigonometry for this whole family of spaces into a single "basic trigonometric group equation", and has 'universality' and '(self)-duality' as its distinctive traits. All previousl…
We present a generalization of the perturbative construction of the metric operator for non-Hermitian Hamiltonians with more than one perturbation parameter. We use this method to study the non-Hermitian scattering Hamiltonian: H=p^2/2m+ζ_-δ(x+a)+ζ_+δ(x-a), where ζ_\pm and a are respectively complex and real parameters and δ(x) is the Dirac delta function. For regions in the space of coupling constants ζ_\pm where H is quasi-Hermitian and there are no complex bound states or spectral singularities, we construct a (positive-definite) metric operator ηand the corresponding equivalent Hermitian H…
We show that the averaged characteristic polynomial and the averaged inverse characteristic polynomial, associated with Hermitian matrices whose elements perform a random walk in the space of complex numbers, satisfy certain partial differential, diffusion-like, equations. These equations are valid for matrices of arbitrary size. Their solutions can be given an integral representation that allows for a simple study of their asymptotic behaviors for a broad range of initial conditions.
It is a classical result of Wigner that for an hermitian matrix with independent entries on and above the diagonal, the mean empirical eigenvalue distribution converges weakly to the semicircle law as matrix size tends to infinity. In this paper, we prove analogs of Wigner's theorem for random matrices taken from all infinitesimal versions of classical symmetric spaces. This is a class of models which contains those studied by Wigner and Dyson, along with seven others arising in condensed matter physics. Like Wigner's, our results are universal in that they only depend on certain assumptions a…
We consider $(2+1)$ dimensional massless Dirac equation in the presence of complex vector potentials. It is shown that such vector potentials (leading to complex magnetic fields) can produce bound states and the Dirac Hamiltonians are $η$-pseudo Hermitian. Some examples have been explicitly worked out.
We investigate the statistical properties of eigenvalues of pseudo-Hermitian random matrices whose eigenvalues are real or complex conjugate. It is shown that when the spectrum splits into separated sets of real and complex conjugate eigenvalues, the real ones show characteristics of an intermediate incomplete spectrum, that is, of a so-called thinned ensemble. On the other hand, the complex ones show repulsion compatible with cubic-order repulsion of non normal matrices for the real matrices, but higher order repulsion for the complex and quaternion matrices.
