We report the evolution of superconductivity and the phase diagram of the KxFe2-ySe2-zTez (z=0-0.6) crystals grown by a simple one-step synthesis. No structural transition is observed in any crystals, while lattice parameters exhibit a systematic expansion with Te content. The Tc exhibits a gradual decrease with increasing Te content from Tconset = 32.9 K at z = 0 to Tconset = 27.9 K at z = 0.5, followed by a sudden suppression of superconductivity at z = 0.6. Upon approaching a Te concentration of 0.6, the shielding volume fraction decreases and eventually drops to zero. Simultaneously, hump positions in r-T curve shift to lower temperatures. These results suggest that isovalent substitution of Te for Se in KxFe2-ySe2 crystals suppresses the superconductivity in this system.
Recent experiments demonstrated that isovalent doping system gives the similar phase diagram as the heterovalent doped cases. For example, with the phosphorous (P)-doping, the magnetic order in BaFe$_{2}$(As$_{1-x}$P$_{x}$)$_{2}$ compound is first suppressed, then the superconductivity dome emerges to an extended doping region but eventually it disappears at large $x$. With the help of a minimal two-orbital model for both BaFe$_{2}$As$_{2}$ and BaFe$_{2}$P$_{2}$, together with the self-consistent lattice Bogoliubov-de Gennes (BdG) equation, we calculate the phase diagram against the P content …
We have studied the anisotropy in the in-plane resistivity and the electronic structure of isovalent Ru-substituted BaFe$_2$As$_2$ in the antiferromagnetic-orthorhombic phase using well-annealed crystals. The anisotropy in the residual resistivity component increases in proportional to the Ru dopant concentration, as in the case of Co-doped compounds. On the other hand, both the residual resistivity and the resistivity anisotropy induced by isovalent Ru substitution is found to be one order of magnitude smaller than those induced by heterovalent Co substitution. Combined with angle-resolved ph…
Temperature-dependent London penetration depth, $λ(T)$, was measured in optimally - doped, $x=$0.35, as-grown ($T_c \approx$25 K, RRR=$ρ(300K)/ρ(T_c)$=4.5) and annealed ($T_c \approx$35 K, RRR=6.4) single crystals of SrFe$_2$(As$_{1-x}$P$_{x}$)$_2$ iron - based superconductor. Annealing increases the RRR and decreases the absolute value of the London penetration depth from $λ(0) = 300 \pm 10$ nm in as-grown sample to $λ(0) = 275 \pm 10$ nm. At low temperatures, $λ(T) \sim T$ indicating superconducting gap with line nodes. Analysis of the full - temperature range superfluid density is consisten…
We present a comprehensive overview of vortex pinning in single crystals of the isovalently substituted iron-based superconductor BaFe$_{2}$(As$_{1-x}$P$_{x}$)$_{2}$, a material that qualifies as an archetypical clean superconductor, containing only sparse strong point-like pins [in the sense of C.J. van der Beek {\em et al.}, Phys. Rev. B {\bf 66}, 024523 (2002)]. Widely varying critical current values for nominally similar compositions show that flux pinning is of extrinsic origin. Vortex configurations, imaged using the Bitter decoration method, show less density fluctuations than those pre…
We used high-energy resolution angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy to extract the momentum dependence of the superconducting gap of Ru-substituted Ba(Fe$_{0.75}$Ru$_{0.25}$)$_2$As$_2$ ($T_c = 15$ K). Despite a strong out-of-plane warping of the Fermi surface, the magnitude of the superconducting gap observed experimentally is nearly isotropic and independent of the out-of-plane momentum. More precisely, we respectively observed 5.7 meV and 4.5 meV superconducting gaps on the inner and outer $Γ$-centered hole Fermi surface pockets, whereas a 4.8 meV gap is recorded on the M-centered elect…
We present the ultra-low-temperature heat transport study of an iron-based superconductor Ba(Fe$_{0.64}$Ru$_{0.36}$)$_2$As$_2$ ($T_c$ = 20.2 K), in which the superconductivity is induced by isovalent Ru substitution. In zero field we find a large residual linear term $κ_0/T$, more than 40% of the normal-state value. At low field, the $κ_0/T$ shows an $H^{1/2}$ dependence. These provide strong evidences for nodes in the superconducting gap of Ba(Fe$_{0.64}$Ru$_{0.36}$)$_2$As$_2$, which mimics that in another isovalently substituted superconductor BaFe$_2$(As$_{1-x}$P$_x$)$_2$. Our results show …
Spin dynamics evolution of BaFe$_2$(As$_{1-x}$P$_x$)$_2$ was probed as a function of P concentration via $^{31}$P NMR. Our NMR study reveals that two-dimensional antiferromagnetic (AF) fluctuations are notably enhanced with little change in static susceptibility on approaching the AF phase from the superconducting dome. Moreover, magnetically ordered temperature $θ$ deduced from the relaxation rate vanishes at optimal doping. These results provide clear-cut evidence for a quantum-critical point (QCP), suggesting that the AF fluctuations associated with the QCP play a central role in the high-$…
We report the effect of doping Mn in the isostructural MgCNi$_{3-x}$Mn$_{x}$ (x = 0-0.05) compounds. Magnetic susceptibility, resistivity, magneto-resistance, and specific heat studies show evidence of localized moments and Kondo effect in samples with x$\neq$0. The rapid suppression of superconductivity ($\sim$ -21K/at.% Mn) in these compounds is a consequence of pair breaking effects due to moment formation on Mn.
We present the ultra-low-temperature heat transport study of iron-based superconductors Ba(Fe$_{1-x}$Ru$_x$)$_2$As$_2$ and BaFe$_2$(As$_{1-x}$P$_x$)$_2$. For optimally doped Ba(Fe$_{0.64}$Ru$_{0.36}$)$_2$As$_2$, a large residual linear term $κ_0/T$ at zero field and a $\sqrt{H}$ dependence of $κ_0(H)/T$ are observed, which provide strong evidences for nodes in the superconducting gap. This result demonstrates that the isovalent Ru doping can also induce nodal superconductivity, as P does in BaFe$_2$(As$_{0.67}$P$_{0.33}$)$_2$. Furthermore, in underdoped Ba(Fe$_{0.77}$Ru$_{0.23}$)$_2$As$_2$ and…
We report superconductivity, physical and structural properties of Ir1-xRhxTe2 (0<=x<=0.3). Superconducting transition with maximum Tc~2.6 K appears when the doping content of Rh x is in between 0.15 and 0.3. Further increasing the content of Rh will suppress the superconductivity. On the other hand, the high-temperature structural transition is suppressed gradually as Rh is incorporated into the lattice, eventually vanishing at x=0.2. These results imply competing relationship between structural transition and superconductivity. The isovalent ionic substitution of Rh into Ir has different eff…
Measurements of the resistivity, magnetoresistance and penetration depth were made on films of LaSrCuO with up to 12 at.% of Zn substituted for the Cu. The results show that the quadratic temperature dependence of the inverse square of the penetration depth, indicative of d-wave superconductivity, is not affected by doping. The suppression of superconductivity leads to a metallic nonsuperconducting phase, as expected for a pairing mechanism related to spin fluctuations. The metal-insulator transition occurs in the vicinity of kFl~1, and appears to be disorder-driven, with the carrier concentra…
We investigated the effects of Se substitution on the lattice constants and superconducting properties of CeO0.5F0.5Bi(S1-xSex)2. With increasing Se concentration, the a lattice constant increased, while the c lattice constant did not show any significant increase between x = 0.1 and x = 0.5. Bulk superconductivity was observed in samples with x = 0.2-0.4, and the superconducting transition temperature was the highest at x = 0.3. The obtained superconductivity phase diagram was compared to those of LaO0.5F0.5Bi(S1-xSex)2 and NdO0.5F0.5Bi(S1-xSex)2.
Polycrystalline samples of F-substituted LnOBiS2 (Ln = La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Yb) compounds were synthesized by solid-state reaction. The samples were characterized by x-ray diffraction measurements and found to have the ZrCuSiAs crystal structure. Electrical resistivity and magnetic susceptibility measurements were performed on all of the samples and specific heat measurements were made on those with Ln = La, Ce, and Yb. All of these compounds exhibit superconductivity in the range 1.9 K - 5.4 K, which has not previously been reported for the compounds based on Ce, Pr, and Yb. The YbO0.5F0.5BiS2 com…
We have successfully synthesized a new superconducting phase of FeTe1-xSx with a PbO-type structure. It has the simplest crystal structure in iron-based superconductors. Superconducting transition temperature is about 10 K at x = 0.2. The upper critical field Hc2 was estimated to be ~70 T. The coherent length was calculated to be ~2.2 nm. Because FeTe1-xSx is composed of nontoxic elements, this material is a candidate for applications and will activate more and more research on iron-based superconductor.
We have successfully synthesized a new BiS2-based superconductor NdOBiS2 with F-doping. This compound is composed of superconducting BiS2 layers and blocking NdO layers, which indicates that the BiS2 layer is the one of the common superconducting layers like the CuO2 layer of cuprates or Fe-As layer of Fe-based superconductors. We can obtain NdO1-xFxBiS2 with bulk superconductivity by a solid-state reaction under ambient pressure. Therefore, NdO1-xFxBiS2 should be the suitable material to elucidate the mechanism of superconductivity in the BiS2-layer.
The influence of a partial substitution with sulphur into Te sites on the crystal, electronic and magnetic structures of FeTe is investigated by DFT calculations. The results reveal a phase transition from the antiferromagnetic double-stripe order for pure FeTe to the single-stripe order for S-substituted samples, which coincides with the previously observed appearance of the superconducting state. The magnetic transition is caused by the variations of the average chalcogen position in the unit cell. The analyzed normal-state properties of Fe(Te,S) and Fe(Se;S) compounds allow a detection of t…
Temperature dependent high pressure electrical resistivity studies has been carried out on Ba(Fe_{1-x}Ru_{x})_{2}As_{2} single crystals with x = 0.12, 0.26 and 0.35, which correspond to under doped, optimally doped and over doped composition regimes respectively. The evolution of structural/magnetic (T_{S-M}) and superconducting transition (T_(c)) temperatures, with pressure for various compositions have been obtained. The normal state resistivity has been analyzed in terms of a model that incorporates both spin fluctuations and the opening of the gap in the spin density wave (SDW)phase. It is…
We report on the synthesis and the physical properties of Ba1-xRbxTi2Sb2O (x < 0.4) by x-ray diffraction, SQUID magnetometery, resistivity and specific heat measurements. Upon hole doping by substituting Ba with Rb, we find superconductivity with a maximum Tc = 5.4 K. Simultaneously, the charge-density-wave (CDW) transition temperature is strongly reduced from T_CDW 55 K in the parent compound BaTi2Sb2O and seems to be suppressed for x > 0.2. The bulk character of the superconducting state for the optimally doped sample (x = 0.2) is confirmed by the occurrence of a well developed discontinuity…
Room temperature superconductivity is a dream that mankind has been chasing for a century. In recent years, the synthesis of H3S, LaH10 and C-S-H system has gradually made this dream a reality. But the extreme pressures required for the metallization of hydrogen-based superconductors limit their applications. In this work, we design a series of high temperature superconductors that can be stable at moderate pressures by incorporating heavy rare earth elements Yb/Lu into sodalite-like clathrate hydrides. In particular, the critical temperatures of Y3LuH24, YLuH12 and YLu3H24 are 283 K, 275 K an…
We report $^{31}$P- and $^{75}$As-NMR studies on (Ca$_4$Al$_2$O$_{6}$)Fe$_2$(As$_{1-x}$P$_x$)$_2$ with an isovalent substitution of P for As. We present the novel evolution of emergent phases that the nodeless superconductivity (SC) in 0$\le x \le$0.4 and the nodal one around $x$=1 are intimately separated by the onset of a commensurate stripe-type antiferromagnetic (AFM) order in 0.5$\le x \le$ 0.95, as an isovalent substitution of P for As decreases a pnictogen height $h_{Pn}$ measured from the Fe plane. It is demonstrated that the AFM order takes place under a condition of 1.32Å$\le h_{Pn} …
The Andreev reflection measurements of the superconducting energy gap in the carbon-substituted MgB$_2$ are presented. Despite the strong suppression of the transition temperature by 17 K in comparison with the pure MgB$_2$, the same reduced value of the small superconducting energy gap with $2Δ/kT_c \approx$ 1.7 has been systematically observed. This indicates that the two band/two gap superconductivity is still preserved here.
Magnetic ions (Mn) were substituted in MgB_2 single crystals resulting in a strong pair-breaking effect. The superconducting transition temperature, T_c, in Mg_{1-x}Mn_xB_2 has been found to be rapidly suppressed at an initial rate of 10 K/%Mn, leading to a complete suppression of superconductivity at about 2% Mn substitution. This reflects the strong coupling between the conduction electrons and the 3d local moments, predominantly of magnetic character, since the nonmagnetic ion substitutions, e.g. with Al or C, suppress T_c much less effectively (e.g. 0.5 K/%Al). The magnitude of the magneti…
We use high resolution angle-resolved photoemission to study the electronic structure of the iron based high-temperature superconductors Ba(Fe$_{1-x}$Ru$_x$)$_2$As$_2$ as a function of Ru concentration. We find that substitution of Ru for Fe is isoelectronic, i. e., it does not change the value of the chemical potential. More interestingly, there are no measured, significant changes in the shape of the Fermi surface or in the Fermi velocity over a wide range of substitution levels ($0<x<0.55$). Given that the suppression of the antiferromagnetic and structural phase has been associated with th…
Two-dimensional transition metal dichalcogenide PdTe$_2$ recently attracts much attention due to its phase coexistence of type-II Dirac semimetal and type-I superconductivity. Here we report a 67 % enhancement of superconducting transition temperature in the 1T-PdSeTe in comparison to that of PdTe2 through partial substitution of Te atoms by Se. The superconductivity has been unambiguously confirmed by the magnetization, resistivity and specific heat measurements. 1T-PdSeTe shows type-II superconductivity with large anisotropy and non-bulk superconductivity nature with volume fraction ~ 20 % e…
The possible existence of a sign-changing gap symmetry in BaFe$_{2}$As$_{2}$-derived superconductors (SC) has been an exciting topic of research in the last few years. To further investigate this subject we combine Electron Spin Resonance (ESR) and pressure-dependent transport measurements to investigate magnetic pair-breaking effects on BaFe$_{1.9}M_{0.1}$As$_{2}$ ($M=$ Mn, Co, Cu, and Ni) single crystals. An ESR signal, indicative of the presence of localized magnetic moments, is observed only for $M=$ Cu and Mn compounds, which display very low SC transition temperature ($T_{c}$) and no SC,…
The 1111-type iron-based superconductor LnFeAsO1-xFx (Ln stands for lanthanide) is the first material with a Tc above 50 K, other than cuprate superconductors. Electron doping into LaFeAsO by H, rather than F, revealed a double-dome-shaped Tc-x diagram, with a first dome (SC1, 0.05<x<0.20) and a second dome (SC2, 0.2<x<0.5). Here, we report the Tc for the whole hydrogen-doping range in LaFeAsO1-xHx under pressures of up to 19 GPa. Tc rises to 52 K at 6 GPa for the Tc-valley composition between the two Tc domes. This is the first instance of the Tc exceeding 50 K in La-1111-type iron-based supe…
We investigated the evolution of the temperature-composition phase diagram of Fe$_{1+y}$Te upon Se substitution. In particular, the effect of Se substitution on the two-step, coupled magneto-structural transition in Fe$_{1+y}$Te single crystals is investigated. To this end, the nominal Fe excess was kept at $y$ = 0.12. For low Se concentrations, the two magneto-structural transitions displayed a tendency to merge. In spite of the high Fe-content, superconductivity emerges for Se concentrations, $x \geq$ 0.1. We present a temperature-composition phase diagram to demonstrate the interplay of str…
75As NMR experiments were performed in Ba(Fe1-xRux)2As2 for x=0 to 80%. Magnetic fractions and NMR lineshapes demonstrate that Ru substitution destroys the antiferromagnetic (AF) order inhomogeneously with a magnetic moment distributed from 0.9 to 0 uB. Superconductivity emerges at intermediate Ru doping and coexists with AF order only in the regions where moments are smaller than ~0.3uB, resulting in an original nanoscale texture. This situation contrasts with that of Co substitution, challenging the apparent universality of the phase diagram in Fe-based superconductors.
Single crystals of SrFe2-xPtxAs2 (0 < x < 0.36) were grown using the self flux solution method and characterized using x-ray crystallography, electrical transport, magnetic susceptibility, and specific heat measurements. The magnetic/structural transition is suppressed with increasing Pt concentration, with superconductivity seen over the range 0.08 < x < 0.36 with a maximum transition temperature Tc of 16 K at x = 0.16. The shape of the phase diagram and the changes to the lattice parameters are similar to the effects of other group VIII elements Ni and Pd, however the higher transition tempe…
We present the results of directional point-contact spectroscopy in state-of-the-art Mg_{1-x}Al_xB_2 and Mg(B_{1-y}C_{y})_2 single crystals produced at ETH, Zurich. Fitting the conductance curves of our point contacts, that always feature Andreev reflection structures, we obtained the doping dependence of the gap amplitudes. The results are discussed in comparison with other experimental findings and relevant theoretical predictions. We conclude that the physics of Al-substituted crystals at x > 0.09 might be governed by phase segregation, while C-substituted crystals unexpectedly show a dopin…
FeSe is a unique high-$T_c$ iron-based superconductor in which nematicity, superconductivity, and magnetism are entangled with each other in the $P$-$T$ phase diagram. We performed $^{77}$Se-nuclear magnetic resonance measurements under pressures of up to 3.9 GPa on 12% S-substituted FeSe, in which the complex overlap between the nematicity and magnetism are resolved. A pressure-induced Lifshitz transition was observed at 1.0 GPa as an anomaly of the density of states and as double superconducting (SC) domes accompanied by different types of antiferromagnetic (AF) fluctuations. The low-$T_{\rm…
The occurrence of bulk superconductivity at ~22 K is reported in polycrystalline samples of BaFe2-xRuxAs2 for nominal Ru content in the range of x=0.75 to 1.125. A systematic suppression of the spin density wave transition temperature (TSDW) precedes the appearance of superconductivity in the system. A phase diagram is proposed based on the measured TSDW and superconducting transition temperature (TC) variations as a function of Ru composition. Band structure calculations, indicate introduction of electron carriers in the system upon Ru substitutiom. The calculated magnetic moment on Fe shows …
In contrast to SrFe2As2, where only the iron possesses a magnetic moment, in EuFe2As2 an additional large, local magnetic moment is carried by Eu2+. Like SrFe2As2, EuFe2As2 exhibits a spin-density wave transition at high temperatures, but in addition the magnetic moments of the Eu2+ order at around 20 K. The interplay of pressure-induced superconductivity and the Eu2+ order leads to a behavior which is reminiscent of re-entrant superconductivity as it was observed, for example, in the ternary Chevrel phases or in the rare-earth nickel borocarbides. Here, we study the delicate interplay of the …
The effect of Sr(II)-for-Ba(II) isovalent substitution on the magnetic irreversibility field (Hirr) of Cu(Ba1-ySry)2YbCu2O6.95(2) (Cu-1212) sample series (y = 0 ~ 0.4) is studied to reveal guiding rules for tailoring the intrinsic Hirr characteristics of high-Tc superconductors. It has been assumed that substitution of the larger alkaline earth cation, Ba(II), by the smaller, Sr(II), might improve the Hirr characteristics as a consequence of the decrease in the thickness of nonsuperconductive blocking block (BB). However, results of the present work show that Sr substitution rather depresses t…

Point-contact measurements on the carbon-substituted Mg(B$_{1-x}$C$_x$)$_2$ filament/powder samples directly reveal a retention of the two superconducting energy gaps in the whole doping range from $x = 0$ to $x \approx 0.1$. The large gap on the $σ$-band is decreased in an essentially linear fashion with increasing the carbon concentrations. The changes in the the small gap $Δ_π$ up to 3.8 % C are proportionally smaller and are more difficult to detect but for the heavily doped sample with $x \approx 0.1$ and $T_c = 22$ K both gaps are still present, and significantly reduced, consistent with…
We report the realization of superconductivity by an isovalent doping with phosphorus in LaFeAsO. X-ray diffraction shows that, with the partial substitution of P for As, the Fe$_2$As$_2$ layers are squeezed while the La$_2$O$_2$ layers are stretched along the c-axis. Electrical resistance and magnetization measurements show emergence of bulk superconductivity at $\sim$10 K for the optimally-doped LaFeAs$_{1-x}$P$_{x}$O ($x=0.25\sim0.3$). The upper critical fields at zero temperature is estimated to be 27 T, much higher than that of the LaFePO superconductor. The occurrence of superconductivit…
We report the first experimental evidence for the intimate connection between superconductivity and antiferromagnetism in Rb0.8Fe2Se2-xTex single crystal under negative chemical pressure by substituting Se with isovalent Te atoms. Electrical resistance measurements in the temperature range from 4 K to 550 K demonstrate that both superconducting transition temperature (Tc) and Neel temperature (TN) were suppressed continuously with the lattice expansion. When the Te concentration x in Rb0.8Fe2Se2-xTex approaches 0.3, the superconducting transition temperature Tc is completely suppressed and the…
F-substituted ROBiS2 (R = La, Ce, Nd) superconducting single crystals with different F concentration were grown successfully using CsCl/KCl flux. All the obtained single crystals had a plate-like shape with a well-developed ab-plane of 1-2 mm in size. The flux components of Cs, K, and Cl were not detected in the obtained single crystals by electron probe microanalysis. The grown single crystals of F-substituted LaOBiS2 and CeOBiS2 showed superconducting at about 3 K while the Tc of the F-substituted NdOBiS2 exhibited approximately 5 K. The superconducting anisotropy of the single crystals of F…
The strong spin$-$orbit coupling (SOC) and numerous crystal phases in few$-$layer transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs) MX$_2$ (M$=$W, Mo, and X$=$Te, Se, S) has led to a variety of novel physics, such as Ising superconductivity and quantum spin Hall effect realized in monolayer 2H$-$ and Td$-$MX$_2$, respectively. Consecutive tailoring of the MX$_2$ structure from 2H to Td phase may realize the long$-$sought topological superconductivity in one material system by incorporating superconductivity and quantum spin Hall effect together. In this work, by combing Raman spectrum, X-ray photoelect…
The effects of isovalent Ru substitution at the Fe sites of BaFe2-xRuxAs2 are investigated by measuring resistivity and Hall coefficient on high-quality single crystals in a wide range of doping (0 < x < 1.4). Ru substitution weakens the antiferromagnetic (AFM) order, inducing superconductivity for relatively high doping level of 0.4 < x < 0.9. Near the AFM phase boundary, the transport properties show non-Fermi-liquid-like behaviors with a linear-temperature dependence of resistivity and a strong temperature dependence of Hall coefficient with a sign change. Upon higher doping, however, both …
London penetration depth, $λ(T)$, was measured in single crystals of K$_{1-x}$Na$_x$Fe$_2$As$_2$, $x$=0 and 0.07, down to temperatures of 50~mK, $\sim T_c/50$. Isovalent substitution of Na for K significantly increases impurity scattering, with $ρ(T_c)$ rising from 0.2 to 2.2 $μΩ$cm, and leads to a suppression of $T_c$ from 3.5~K to 2.8~K. At the same time, a close to $T$-linear $Δλ(T)$ in pure samples changes to almost $T^2$ in the substituted samples. The behavior never becomes exponential as expected for the accidental nodes, as opposed to $T^2$ dependence in superconductors with symmetry i…
We report synthesis, structural and magnetic (DC and AC) properties of Boron substituted MgCNi3 superconductor. A series of polycrystalline bulk samples Mg1.2C1.6-xBxNi3 (x = 0.0, 0.08 and 0.16) is synthesized through standard solid-state reaction route, which are found to crystallize in cubic perovskite structure with space group Pm3m. Rietveld analysis of observed XRD data show that lattice parameters expand from a = 3.8106 (4) Å for pure, to 3.8164 (2) Å and 3.8173 (5) Å for 5% and 10% Boron substituted samples respectively. DC magnetization exhibited superconducting transition (Tc) at arou…
We report that 1T-TiSe2, an archetypical layered transition metal dichalcogenide, becomes superconducting when Ta is substituted for Ti but not when Nb is substituted for Ti. This is unexpected because Nb and Ta should be chemically equivalent electron donors. Superconductivity emerges near x = 0.02 for Ti1-xTaxSe2, while for Ti1-xNbxSe2, no superconducting transitions are observed above 0.4 K. The equivalent chemical nature of the dopants is confirmed by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. ARPES and Raman scattering studies show similarities and differences between the two systems, but the fund…
The layered lithium borocarbide LiBC, isovalent with and structurally similar to the superconductor MgB2, is an insulator due to the modulation within the hexagonal layers (BC vs. B2). We show that hole-doping of LiBC results in Fermi surfaces of B-C p sigma character that couple very strongly to B-C bond stretching modes, precisely the features that lead to superconductivity at Tc = 40 K in MgB2. Comparison of Li{0.5}BC with MgB2 indicates the former to be a prime candidate for electron-phonon coupled superconductivity at substantially higher temperature than in MgB2.
We have synthesized polycrystalline samples of Pt-substituted SrFe2As2 and measured the temperature dependence of magnetization and electrical resistivity. We have observed the superconducting transition at Tc = 17 K with the maximum shielding volume fraction at x = 0.125 in Sr(Fe1-xPtx)2As2. It is found that the maximum Tc depends on the substituted element, so it is important to substitute various elements to explore new iron-based superconductors with higher Tc.
Superconducting poly- and single-crystalline samples of Sm1-xThxFeAsO with partial substitution of Sm3+ by Th4+ were synthesized and grown under high pressure and their structural, magnetic and transport properties are studied. The superconducting Tc reaches values higher than 50 K. Bulk superconducting samples (x = 0.08, 0.15, 0.3) do not show any signs of a phase transition from tetragonal to orthorhombic crystal structure at low temperatures. With Th substitution the unit cell parameters a and c shrink and the fractional atomic coordinate of the As site zAs remains almost unchanged, while t…
In this Comment, we explain the reason for the discrepancy between two sets of tunneling data obtained on Ni- and Zn-doped Bi2212 single crystals (presented in H. Hancotte et al., Phys. Rev. B 55, R3410 (1997) and A. Mourachkine, to be published in J. of Superconductivity, cond-mat/9902355).

Single crystals of Ba_{1-x}Rb_{x}Fe_2As_2 with x=0.05-0.1 have been grown from Sn flux and are bulk superconductors with T_c up to 23 K. The crystal structure was determined by X-ray diffraction analysis, and Sn is found to be incorporated for 9% Ba, shifted by 1.1 Angstroem away from the Ba site towards the (Fe_2As_2)-layers. The upper critical field deduced from resistance measurements is anisotropic with slopes of 7.1(3) T/K (H || ab-plane) and 4.2(2) T/K (H || c-axis), sufficiently far below T_c. The extracted upper critical field anisotropy of 3 close to T_c, is in good agreement with the…
By systematic investigations of the magnetic, transport and thermodynamic properties of single crystals of EuFe2(As1-xPx)2 we explore the complex interplay of superconductivity and Eu2+ magnetism. Below 30K, two magnetic transitions are observed for all P substituted crystals suggesting a revision of the phase diagram. In addition to the canted A-type antiferromagnetic order of Eu2+ at approximately 20K, a spin glass transition is discovered at lower temperatures. Most remarkably, the reentrant spin glass state of EuFe2(As1-xPx)2 coexists with superconductivity around x = 0.2.
We present the results of elastic and inelastic neutron scattering measurements on non-superconducting Ba(Fe${_{0.957}}$Cu${_{0.043}}$)${_2}$As${_2}$, a composition close to a quantum critical point between AFM ordered and paramagnetic phases. By comparing these results with the spin fluctuations in the low Cu composition as well as the parent compound BaFe$_2$As$_2$ and superconducting Ba(Fe$_{1-x}$Ni$_x$)$_2$As$_2$ compounds, we demonstrate that paramagnon-like spin fluctuations are evident in the antiferromagnetically ordered state of Ba(Fe$_{0.957}$Cu$_{0.043}$)$_2$As$_2$, which is distinc…
