Inspired by new trends in atomtronics, cold atoms devices and Bose-Einstein condensate dynamics, we apply a general technique of N=4 extended Supersymmetric Quantum Mechanics to isospectral Hamiltonians with triple-well potentials, i.e. symmetric and asymmetric. Expressions of quantum-mechanical propagators, which take into account all states of the spectrum, are obtained, within the N = 4 SQM approach, in the closed form. For the initial Hamiltonian of a harmonic oscillator, we obtain the explicit expressions of potentials, wavefunctions and propagators. The obtained results are applied to tunneling dynamics of localized states in triple-well potentials and for studying its features. In particular, we observe a Josephson-type tunneling transition of a wave packet, the effect of its partial trapping and a non-monotonic dependence of tunneling dynamics on the shape of a three-well potential. We investigate, among others, the possibility of controlling tunneling transport by changing parameters of the central well, and we briefly discuss potential applications of this aspect to atomtronic devices.
We study the tunneling of a small ensemble of strongly repulsive bosons in a one-dimensional triple-well potential. The usual treatment within the single-band approximation suggests suppression of tunneling in the strong interaction regime. However, we show that several windows of enhanced tunneling are opened in this regime. This enhanced tunneling results from higher band contributions, and has the character of interband tunneling. It can give rise to various tunneling processes, such as single-boson tunneling and two-boson correlated tunneling of the ensemble of bosons, and is robust agains…
We investigate the transient evolution of finite-frequency current noise after abrupt switching on of the tunneling coupling in two paradigmatic, exactly solvable models of mesoscopic physics: the resonant level model and the Majorana resonant level model, which emerges as an effective model for a Kondo quantum dot at the Toulouse point. We find a parameter window in which the transient noise can become negative, a property it shares with the transient current. However, in contrast to the transient current, which approaches the steady state exponentially fast, we observe an algebraic decay in …
We investigate quantum tunneling of two repulsive bosons in a triple-well potential subject to a high-frequency driving field. By means of the multiple-time-scale asymptotic analysis, we evidence a far-resonant strongly-interacting regime in which the selected coherent destruction of tunneling can occur between the paired states and unpaired states, and the dominant tunneling of the paired states is a second order process. Two Floquet quasienergy bands of the both kinds of states are given analytically, where a fine structure up to the second order corrections is displayed. The analytical resu…
Exactly solvable models that exhibit quantum signatures of classical chaos are both rare as well as important - more so in view of the fact that the mechanisms for ergodic behavior and thermalization in isolated quantum systems and its connections to non-integrability are under active investigation. In this work, we study quantum systems of few qubits collectively modeled as a kicked top, a textbook example of quantum chaos. In particular, we show that the 3 and 4 qubit cases are exactly solvable and yet, interestingly, can display signatures of ergodicity and thermalization. Deriving analytic…
We theoretically investigate the tunneling-induced transparency (TIT) and the Autler-Townes (AT) doublet and triplet in a triple-quantum-dot system. For the resonant tunneling case, we show that the TIT induces a transparency dip in a weak-tunneling regime and no anticrossing occurs in the eigenenergies of the system Hamiltonian. However, in a strong-tunneling regime, we show that the TIT evolves to the AT splitting, which results in a well-resolved doublet and double anticrossings. For the off-resonance case, we demonstrate that, in the weak-tunneling regime, the double TIT is realized with a…
We study features of tunneling dynamics in an exactly-solvable model of N=4 supersymmetric quantum mechanics with a multi-well potential and with broken reflective symmetry. Quantum systems with a phenomenological potential of this type demonstrate the phenomenon of partial localization of under-barrier states, possibly resulting in the appearance of the so-called "resonant" tunneling, or the phenomenon of coherent tunneling destruction, referring to the complete localization. Taking the partial localization and the coherent tunneling destruction as basic examples, we indicate main advantages …
In this paper, we introduce a family of sextic potentials that are exactly solvable, and for the first time, a family of triple-well potentials with their whole energy spectrum and wavefunctions using supersymmetry method. It was suggested since three decades ago that all "additive" or "translational" shape invariant superpotentials formed by two combination of functions have been found and their list was already exhausted by the well-known exactly solvable potentials that are available in most textbooks and furthermore, there are no others. We have devised a new family of superpotentials form…
Transient tunneling effects in triple barrier systems are investigated by considering a time-dependent solution to the Schrödinger equation with a cutoff wave initial condition. We derive a two-level formula for incidence energies $E$ near the first resonance doublet of the system. Based on that expression we find that the probability density along the internal region of the potential, is governed by three oscillation frequencies: one of them refers to the well known Bohr frequency, given in terms of the first and second resonance energies of the doublet, and the two others, represent a coupli…

We propose a scheme for precise control of tunneling dynamics of dipolar bosons in shaken triple-well potentials. In the high-frequency regimes and under the resonance conditions, we have analytically and numerically demonstrated that we can transport a priori prescribed number of dipolar bosons along different pathways and different directions by adjusting the driving parameters. These results extend the previous many-body selective coherent destruction of tunneling (CDT) schemes for nondipolar bosons in double-well potentials[Phys. Rev. Lett. 103, 133002 (2009); Phys. Rev. A 86, 044102 (2012…
Exact analytical calculations of eigenvalues and eigenstates are presented for quantum coupled double-well (DW) systems with Razavy's hyperbolic potential. With the use of four kinds of initial wavepackets, we have calculated the tunneling period $T$ and the orthogonality time $τ$ which signifies a time interval for an initial state to evolve to its orthogonal state. We discuss the coupling dependence of $T$ and $τ$, and the relation between $τ$ and the concurrence $C$ which is a typical measure of the entanglement in two qubits. Our calculations have shown that it is not clear whether the spe…
Triple-NOON states are superpositions of the form $e^{i φ_1} |{N,0,0}\rangle + e^{i φ_2} |{0,N,0}\rangle + e^{i φ_3} |{0,0,N}\rangle$ involving $N$ bosonic quanta distributed over three modes. We theoretically show how such highly entangled states can be generated with interacting ultracold bosonic atoms in a symmetric three-site lattice. The basic protocol consists in preparing all atoms on one site of the lattice and then letting the system evolve during a specific time such that collective tunneling of the atoms to the other two sites takes place. The key point put forward here is that this…
Left-handedness with three zero-absorption windows tuned by the incoherent pumping field and inter-dot tunnelings in a GaAs/AlGaAs triple quantum dots system
Triple donor devices have the potential to exhibit adiabatic tunneling via the CTAP (Coherent Tunneling Adiabatic Passage) protocol which is a candidate transport mechanism for scalable quantum computing. We examine theoretically the statistics of dopant placement using counted ion implantation by employing an analytical treatment of CTAP transport properties under hydrogenic assumptions. We determine theoretical device yields for proof of concept devices for different implant energies. In particular, we determine a significant theoretical device yield (~80%) for 14keV phosphorus in silicon wi…
Within quantum mechanics which works with parity-pseudo-Hermitian Hamiltonians we study the tunneling in a symmetric double well formed by two delta functions with complex conjugate strengths. The model is exactly solvable and exhibits several interesting features. Besides an amazingly robust absence of any PT symmetry breaking, we observe a quasi-degeneracy of the levels which occurs all over the energy range including the high-energy domain. This pattern is interpreted as a manifestation of certain "quantum beats".
By using a usual instanton method we obtain the energy splitting due to quantum tunneling through the triple well barrier. It is shown that the term related to the midpoint of the energy splitting in propagator is quite different from that of double well case, in that it is proportional to the algebraic average of the frequencies of the left and central wells.
An exactly-solvable model for the decay of a metastable state coupled to a semi-infinite tight-binding lattice, showing large deviations from exponential decay in the strong coupling regime, is presented. An optical realization of the lattice model, based on discrete diffraction in a semi-infinite array of tunneling-coupled optical waveguides, is proposed to test non-exponential decay and for the observation of an optical analog of the quantum Zeno effect.
A new exactly solvable alternative to the Calogero three-particle model is proposed. Sharing its confining long-range part, it contains the mere zero-range two-particle barriers. Their penetrability gives rise to a tunneling, tunable via their three independent strengths. Their variability can control the removal of the degeneracy of the energy levels in an innovative, non-perturbative manner.
We analyze the performance of simulated quantum annealing (SQA) on an optimization problem for which simulated classical annealing (SA) is provably inefficient because of a high energy barrier. We present evidence that SQA can pass through this barrier to find the global minimum efficiently. This demonstrates the potential for SQA to inherit some of the advantages of quantum annealing (QA), since this problem has been previously shown to be efficiently solvable by quantum adiabatic optimization.
We study first-order spatial coherence for interacting polar bosons trapped in triple-well potentials. It is argued that besides the well-known coherence produced by couplings related to tunneling between the sites, there exists a nonlocal coherence predominantly determined by intersite interactions, which prevails between the outer sites of the triple well when their total filling is odd. We find that the nonlocal interaction-induced coherence originates from the superposition of degenerate many-body states in symmetric triple wells, and demonstrate its robustness against perturbations due to…
We investigate the ground state properties and tunneling dynamics of ultracold dipolar bosons in a one dimensional triple well trap from a few-body ab-initio perspective. Our focus is primarily on the distinctive features of dipolar bosons compared to the contact interacting bosons. Formation of intra-well localization is observed for very strong dipolar interaction. General population rearangement as well as fragmentation and localization effects have been found, depending strongly on the particle number. The energy spectrum for two particles exhibits avoided crossings that lead to several di…
Fast and high-fidelity quantum state detection is essential for building robust spin-based quantum information processing platforms in semiconductors. The Pauli spin blockade (PSB)-based spin-to-charge conversion and its variants are widely used for the spin state discrimination of two-electron singlet-triplet (ST$_0$) qubits; however, the single-shot measurement fidelity is limited by either the low signal contrast, or the short lifetime of the triplet state at the PSB energy detuning, especially due to strong mixing with singlet states at large magnetic field gradients. Ultimately, the limit…
Quantum computation using electron spins in three coupled dot with different size is proposed. By using the energy selectivity of both photon assisted tunneling and spin rotation of electrons, logic gates are realized by static and rotational magnetic field and resonant optical pulses. Possibility of increasing the number of quantum bits using the energy selectivity is also discussed.
Quantum particles interacting with potential barriers are ubiquitous in physics, and the question of how much time they spend inside classically forbidden regions has attracted interest for many decades. Recent developments of new experimental techniques revived the issue and ignited a debate with often contradictory results. This motivates the present study of an exactly solvable model for quantum tunneling induced by a strong field. We show that the tunneling dynamics can depart significantly from the scenario in which the barrier-traversal time is zero or very small. However, our findings d…
By putting two harmonic oscillator potential $x^2$ side by side with a separation $2d$, two exactly solvable piecewise analytic quantum systems with a free parameter $d>0$ are obtained. Due to the mirror symmetry, their eigenvalues $E$ for the even and odd parity sectors are determined exactly as the zeros of certain combinations of the confluent hypergeometric function ${}_1F_1$ of $d$ and $E$, which are common to $V_{D}$ and $V_{S}$ but in two different branches. The eigenfunctions are the piecewise square integrable combinations of ${}_1F_1$, the so called $U$ functions. By comparing the ei…
This paper gives a new perspective on how to solve the second-order linear differential equation written in normal form. Extending the argument of the potential to a complex number leads to solving exactly the Schrödinger equation when the potential is complex using the factorization method. This method leads to solving two Riccati nonlinear equations and by constructing the only possible superpotential, the factorization method gives the eigenvalues and eigenfunctions in closed form for potentials satisfying the shape invariance property. Extending the potential to the complex argument has le…
To gain better insight into the complexity theory of quantum annealing, we propose and solve a class of spin systems which contain bottlenecks of the kind expected to dominate the runtime of quantum annealing as it tries to solve difficult optimization problems. We uncover a noise amplification effect at these bottlenecks, whereby tunneling rates caused by flux-qubit noise scale in proportion to the number of qubits $N$ in the limit that $N\to \infty$. By solving the incoherent annealing dynamics exactly, we find a wide range of regimes where the probability that a quantum annealer remains in …
Two rectangular models described by the one-dimensional Schroedinger equation with sharply localized potentials are suggested. The potentials have a multi-layer thin structure being composed from adjacent barriers and wells. Their peculiar tunneling properties are studied in considerable detail. Particularly, in the zero-range limit when the potentials are squeezed to a single point, sharp peaks with total transmission are observed at certain (positive and negative) quantized values of the potential strength constant forming infinite discrete sets. Beyond these sets, the barrier-well structure…
We theoretically propose a simple setup based on a three terminal triple quantum dot in the Coulomb blockade regime as a heat flow allocator to spatially separate heat flows along two different channels at arbitrary proportion. We show that a constant output heat flow ratio can be obtained in a wide range of system parameters and any ratio of the output heat flow, whether it is an integer ratio or a fractional ratio, can be obtained by directly adjusting the ratio of the energy-dependent tunneling rate.
In a close form without referring the time-dependent Hamiltonian to the total system, a consistent approach for quantum measurement is proposed based on Zurek's triple model of quantum decoherence [W.Zurek, Phys. Rev. D 24, 1516 (1981)]. An exactly-solvable model based on the intracavity system is dealt with in details to demonstrate the central idea in our approach: by peeling off one collective variable of the measuring apparatus from its many degrees of freedom, as the pointer of the apparatus, the collective variable de-couples with the internal environment formed by the effective internal…
We solve the non-stationary Schrodinger equation for several time-dependent Hamiltonians, such as the BCS Hamiltonian with an interaction strength inversely proportional to time, periodically driven BCS and linearly driven inhomogeneous Dicke models as well as various multi-level Landau-Zener tunneling models. The latter are Demkov-Osherov, bow-tie, and generalized bow-tie models. We show that these Landau-Zener problems and their certain interacting many-body generalizations map to Gaudin magnets in a magnetic field. Moreover, we demonstrate that the time-dependent Schrodinger equation for th…
We propose an approach for achieving ground-state cooling of a nanomechanical resonator (NAMR) capacitively coupled to a triple quantum dot (TQD). This TQD is an electronic analog of a three-level atom in $Λ$ configuration which allows an electron to enter it via lower-energy states and to exit only from a higher-energy state. By tuning the degeneracy of the two lower-energy states in the TQD, an electron can be trapped in a dark state caused by destructive quantum interference between the two tunneling pathways to the higher-energy state. Therefore, ground-state cooling of an NAMR can be achi…
