The heterogeneous wireless networks where coexistence of different Radio access technology (RAT) are widely deployed for various services and support various traffic demand, channel allocation. Under heterogeneous wireless networks, a user can send data through a single or multi RATs simultaneous. The objective of this paper is to choose the optimal bandwidth for the services and power allocation to that bandwidth. The proposed distributed joint allocation algorithm using modified Newton method is adopted to maximize the total system capacity. We validate the performance of the proposed algorithm through numerical results.
An important issue in heterogeneous wireless networks is how to optimally utilize various radio resources. While many methods have been proposed for managing radio resources in each network, these methods are not suitable for heterogeneous wireless networks. In this study, a new management method is proposed which provides acceptable service quality and roaming rate, reduces the cost of the service, and utilizes big data technology for its operation. In our proposed scheme, by considering various parameters such as the type of the service, the information related to the location of the user, t…
Heterogeneous Wireless Networks HWNs are combined networks made of different Radio Access Technologies RAT. Next-Generation Networks NGN will provide high bandwidth connectivity and high data throughput with smooth support for the user's QoS requirements, in this context, users with multi-interface terminals will be able to connect to different wireless technologies such as 802.16, 802.11 families and cellular families UMTS, HSPA and LTE in the same time. The idea of NGN is that users will not be tied with a contract with one single operator but, users will be able to choose the Radio Access N…
Wireless networks are becoming extremely pervasive while traffic demand is ever increasing. In order to cope with the forecast increase in traffic volume for the upcoming years, as well as the number of connected devices, new technologies, practices and spectrum rearrangements are required. In this context, a key question arises: how to provide extensive backhaul connectivity and capacity for pervasive ultra dense networks? The answer is rather complex, if feasible. To shed some light into this issue we overview potential technologies, either wired or wireless, and identify technical challenge…
This paper investigates a new class of carrier-sense multiple access (CSMA) protocols that employ deep reinforcement learning (DRL) techniques for heterogeneous wireless networking, referred to as carrier-sense deep-reinforcement learning multiple access (CS-DLMA). Existing CSMA protocols, such as the medium access control (MAC) of WiFi, are designed for a homogeneous network environment in which all nodes adopt the same protocol. Such protocols suffer from severe performance degradation in a heterogeneous environment where there are nodes adopting other MAC protocols. This paper shows that DR…
Price and the quality of service are two key factors taken into account by wireless network users when they choose their network provider. The recent advances in wireless technology and massive infrastructure deployments has led to better coverage, and currently at each given wirelessly covered area there are a few network providers and each have different pricing strategies. These providers can potentially set unfair expensive prices for their services. In this paper, we propose a novel crowdsourcing-based approach for fair wireless service pricing in Internet of Things (IoT). In our consider…
In this paper, we investigate the random access problem for a delay-constrained heterogeneous wireless network. As a first attempt to study this new problem, we consider a network with two users who deliver delay-constrained traffic to an access point (AP) via a common unreliable collision wireless channel. We assume that one user (called user 1) adopts ALOHA and we optimize the random access scheme of the other user (called user 2). The most intriguing part of this problem is that user 2 does not know the information of user 1 but needs to maximize the system timely throughput. Such a paradig…
Optimal interface selection is a key mobility management issue in heterogeneous wireless networks. Measuring the physical or link level performance on a given wireless access networks does not provide a reliable indication of the IP connectivity, delay and loss on the (bidirectional) paths from the Mobile Host to the node that is handling the mobility, over different heterogeneous networks. In this paper, we propose, implement and analyze mechanisms for connectivity check and performance (network delay and packet loss) monitoring over IP access networks. We evaluate the accuracy and timeliness…
Full-duplex (FD) wireless is an attractive communication paradigm with high potential for improving network capacity and reducing delay in wireless networks. Despite significant progress on the physical layer development, the challenges associated with developing medium access control (MAC) protocols for heterogeneous networks composed of both legacy half-duplex (HD) and emerging FD devices have not been fully addressed. Therefore, we focus on the design and performance evaluation of scheduling algorithms for infrastructure-based heterogeneous HD-FD networks (composed of HD and FD users). We f…
The ubiquitous services of wireless communication networks are growing rapidly by the development of wireless communication technologies. While a user is roaming from one cell to another cell, an intelligent decision mechanism and network selection is extremely crucial to maintain the quality of service (QoS) during handover. Handover decision must be made precisely to avoid any unnecessary phenomenon like ping-pong, corner effect, call blocking, and call dropping etc. This work considered service types like voice, video, and data and their QoS requirements for handover decision using fuzzy lo…
This paper investigates a futuristic spectrum sharing paradigm for heterogeneous wireless networks with imperfect channels. In the heterogeneous networks, multiple wireless networks adopt different medium access control (MAC) protocols to share a common wireless spectrum and each network is unaware of the MACs of others. This paper aims to design a distributed deep reinforcement learning (DRL) based MAC protocol for a particular network, and the objective of this network is to achieve a global $α$-fairness objective. In the conventional DRL framework, feedback/reward given to the agent is alwa…
Information Centric Networking based Handover Support for QoS Maintenance in Cooperative Heterogeneous Wireless Networks
BEENISH: Balanced Energy Efficient Network Integrated Super Heterogeneous Protocol for Wireless Sensor Networks
通过分析异构无线传感器网络中簇间通信能耗和能量水平变化范围大的特点,提出了基于超异构的均衡节能网络协议BEENISH(Balanced Energy Efficient Network Integrated Super Heterogenous)。

Content storage at the network edge is a promising solution to mitigate the excessive traffic load due to on-demand streaming applications as well as to reduce the streaming delay. To this end, cache-enabled cellular architectures can be utilized to increase the provided quality-of-service (QoS) and to reduce the network cost. However, there are certain issues to be considered in the design of the content storage strategy such that the contents should be refreshed in order to responds user`s expectations. Using a frequent cache refreshment strategy the ratio of satisfied users can be increased…
This chapter provides an overview of coded caching in the context of heterogeneous wireless networks. We begin by briefly describing the key idea behind coded caching and then discuss in detail the impact of various aspects such as non-uniform content popularity, multiple cache access, and interference.
Multimedia content streaming from Internet-based sources emerges as one of the most high demanded services by wireless users. In order to alleviate excessive traffic due to multimedia content transmission, many architectures (e.g., small cells, femtocells, etc.) have been proposed to offload such traffic to the nearest (or strongest) access point also called "helper". The deployment of more helpers is not necessarily beneficial due to their potential of increasing interference. In this work, we evaluate a wireless system in which we distinguish between cachable and non-cachable traffic. More s…
