We investigate the soft spectator scattering contribution for the FF $F_{1}$. We focus our attention on factorization of the hard-collinear scale $\sim QΛ$ corresponding to transition from SCET-I to SCET-II. We compute the leading order jet functions and find that the convolution integrals over the soft fractions are logarithmically divergent. This divergency is the consequence of the boost invariance and does not depend on the model of the soft correlation function describing the soft spectator quarks. Using as example a two-loop diagram we demonstrated that such a divergency corresponds to the overlap of the soft and collinear regions. As a result one obtains large rapidity logarithm which must be included in the correct factorization formalism. We conclude that a consistent description of the factorization for $F_{1}$ implies the end-point collinear divergencies in the hard and soft spectator contributions, i.e. convolution integrals with respect to collinear fractions are not well-defined. Such scenario can only be realized when the twist-3 nucleon distribution amplitude has specific end-point behavior which differs from one expected from the evolution of the nucleon distribution amplitude. Such behavior leads to the violation of the collinear factorization for the hard spectator scattering contribution. We suggest that the soft spectator scattering and chiral symmetry breaking provide the mechanism responsible for the violation of collinear factorization in case of form factor $F_{1}$.
We investigate the generalized form factors of the nucleon in a light-cone spectator-diquark model. Compared to the form factors, the generalized form factors contain some more information of the structure of the nucleon. In our calculation, both the scalar and the axial-vector spectator-diquark are taken into account. As a relation between the spin in the instant form and that in the light-cone form, the Melosh-Wigner rotation effect is included for both the quark and the axial-vector diquark. We also provide numerical results from our model calculations, and the results are comparable with t…
We present a model calculation of transverse-momentum-dependent distributions (TMDs) of gluons in the nucleon. The model is based on the assumption that a nucleon can emit a gluon, and what remains after the emission is treated as a single spectator particle. This spectator particle is considered to be on-shell, but its mass is allowed to take a continuous range of values, described by a spectral function. The nucleon-gluon-spectator coupling is described by an effective vertex containing two form factors. We fix the model parameters to obtain the best agreement with collinear gluon distributi…
Background: Deep-inelastic scattering (DIS) on the deuteron with spectator nucleon tagging represents a unique method for extracting the free neutron structure functions and exploring the nuclear modifications of bound protons and neutrons. The detection of the spectator (with typical momenta $\lesssim$ 100 MeV/c in the deuteron rest frame) controls the nuclear configuration during the DIS process and enables a differential analysis of nuclear effects. At the future electron-ion collider (EIC) such measurements will be performed using far-forward detectors. Purpose: Simulate deuteron DIS with …
We present exploratory analyses of the 3D gluon content of the proton via a study of unpolarized and polarized gluon TMDs at twist-2, calculated in a spectator model for the parent nucleon. Our approach embodies a flexible parametrization for the spectator-mass function, suited to describe both moderate and small-$x$ effects. All these studies can serve as a useful guidance in the investigation of the gluon dynamics inside nucleons and nuclei, which constitutes one of the major goals of new-generation colliding machines, as the EIC, the HL-LHC, NICA, and the FPF.
We perform explorative analyses of the 3D gluon content of the proton via a study of (un)polarized twist-2 gluon TMDs, calculated in a spectator model for the parent nucleon. Our approach encodes a flexible parametrization for the spectator-mass density, suited to describe both moderate and small-$x$ effects. All these prospective developments are relevant in the investigation of the gluon dynamics inside nucleons and nuclei, which constitutes one of the major goals of new-generation colliding machines, as the EIC, the HL-LHC and NICA.
We consider electron-deuteron deep-inelastic scattering (DIS) with detection of a proton in the nuclear fragmentation region ("spectator tagging") as a method for extracting the free neutron structure functions and studying their nuclear modifications. Such measurements could be performed at a future Electron-Ion Collider (EIC) with suitable forward detectors. The measured proton recoil momentum (~< 100 MeV in the deuteron rest frame) specifies the deuteron configuration during the high-energy process and permits a controlled theoretical treatment of nuclear effects. Nuclear and nucleonic stru…
The neutron's deep-inelastic structure functions provide essential information for the flavor separation of the nucleon parton densities, the nucleon spin decomposition, and precision studies of QCD phenomena in the flavor-singlet and nonsinglet sectors. Traditional inclusive measurements on nuclear targets are limited by dilution from scattering on protons, Fermi motion and binding effects, final-state interactions, and nuclear shadowing at x << 0.1. An Electron-Ion Collider (EIC) would enable next-generation measurements of neutron structure with polarized deuteron beams and detection of for…
Background: DIS on the polarized deuteron with detection of a proton in the nuclear breakup region (spectator tagging) represents a unique method for extracting the neutron spin structure functions and studying nuclear modifications. The tagged proton momentum controls the nuclear configuration during the DIS process and enables a differential analysis of nuclear effects. Such measurements could be performed with the future electron-ion collider (EIC) and forward proton detectors if deuteron beam polarization could be achieved. Purpose: Develop theoretical framework for polarized deuteron DIS …
The process of formation of the participant system in heavy-ion collisions is investigated in the framework of a simplified analytic Glauber-like model, which is based on the relativistic Boltzmann transport equation. The key point lies in the time-dependent partition of the nucleon system into two groups: nucleons, which did not take part in any interaction before a given time and nucleons, which already have interacted. In the framework of the proposed model we introduce a natural energy-dependent temporal scale $t_c$, which allows us to remove all dependencies of the model on the collision …
The accuracy of measuring the total energy of the spectators in the FHCal calorimeter, depending on the fluctuations in the number of nucleons and the hadron shower is obtained. It is shown that, from the point of view of statistics, the process of registering photoelectrons in a photomultiplier (PM) is similar to the process of registering spectator nucleons in a calorimeter. The measurements of single photoelectrons in the PM are in good agreement with the obtained formula for the relative variance of the charge detected by the PM.
An Electron-Ion Collider (EIC) would enable next-generation measurements of deep-inelastic scattering (DIS) on the deuteron with detection of a forward-moving nucleon (p, n) and measurement of its recoil momentum ("spectator tagging"). Such experiments offer full control of the nuclear configuration during the high-energy process and can be used for precision studies of the neutron's partonic structure and its spin dependence, nuclear modifications of partonic structure, and nuclear shadowing at small x. We review the theoretical description of spectator tagging at EIC energies (light-front nu…
We report progresses on leading-twist transverse-momentum-dependent (TMD) gluon distributions, calculated in a spectator-model framework for the parent nucleon. We encode in our formalism a fit-based parameterization for the spectator-mass density, suited to describe the gluon content of the proton in a wide range of $x$. We present preliminary results on the $f$-type Sivers function, a key ingredient to access relevant spin-asymmetries emerging when the nucleon is transversely polarized. These studies are helpful to shed light on the gluon dynamics inside nucleons and nuclei, which is one of …
We present a detailed analysis of the beam energy dependence of the mechanisms for the generation of directed and elliptic flows in Au+Au collisions focusing on the role of hadronic rescattering and spectator shadowing within a microscopic transport model JAM with different equation of state. A systematic study of the beam energy dependence is performed for Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}} =2.3 - 62.4$ GeV. The transition of the dynamical origin of the directed flow is observed. We find that the initial Glauber type nucleon-nucleon collisions generate negative $v_1$ for nucleons at midrapidi…
To facilitate lattice QCD calculations of nucleon structute, a set of quasi-parton distributions were recently introduced. These quasi-PDFs were shown to reduce to standard PDFs when the nucleon is boosted to high energies, $P_z\rightarrow \infty$. Since taking such limit is not feasible in lattice simulations, it is essential to provide guidance for what values of $P_z$ the quasi-PDFs are good approximations of standard PDFs. Within the framework of the spectator diquark model, we evaluate both the up and down quarks' quasi-PDFs and standard PDFs for all leading-twist distributions (unpolariz…
We study the single longitudinal-spin asymmetry of dihadron production in semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering process. We consider the collinear picture in which the transverse momentum of the final-state hadron pair is integrated out, such that the $\sin ϕ_R$ azimuthal asymmetry arises from the coupling $h_L\, H_{1}^{\sphericalangle}$ as well as the coupling $g_1 \,\widetilde{G}^{\sphericalangle}$. We calculate the unknown twist-3 dihadron fragmentation function $\widetilde{G}^{\sphericalangle}$ using a spectator model which is successful in describing the dihadron production in the unpo…
We discuss the process of deep-inelastic electron scattering (DIS) on the polarized deuteron with detection of a nucleon in the nuclear fragmentation region ("spectator tagging"). We cover (a) the general structure of the semi-inclusive DIS cross section on a spin-1 target; (b) the tagged structure functions in the impulse approximation, where deuteron structure is described by the $NN$ light-front wave function; (c) the extraction of free neutron structure through on-shell extrapolation in the recoil proton momentum. As an application we consider the extraction of the neutron spin structure f…
The spin structure function of the neutron is traditionally determined by measuring the spin asymmetry of inclusive electron deep inelastic scattering (DIS) off polarized3He nuclei. In such experiments, nuclear effects can lead to large model dependencies in the interpretation of experimental data. Here we study the feasibility of suppressing such model dependencies by tagging both spectator protons in the process of DIS off neutrons in3He at the forthcoming Electron-Ion Collider (EIC). This allows reconstructing the momentum of the struck neutron to ensure it was nearly at rest in the initial…
Nucleon and gamma N -> Delta lattice form factors in a constituent quark model

The deuteron form factors are calculated using two model wave functions obtained from the 2007 CST high precision fits to $np$ scattering data. Included in the calculation are a new class of isoscalar $np$ interaction currents which are automatically generated by the nuclear force model used in these fits. If the nuclear model WJC2 is used, a precision fit ($χ^2$/datum $\eqsim1$) to the Sick Global Analysis (GA) of all $ed$ elastic scattering data can be obtained by adjusting the unknown off-shell nucleon form factors $F_3(Q^2)$ (discussed before) and $F_4(Q^2)$ (introduced in this paper), and…
We present the results of the covariant spectator quark model applied to the nucleon structure function $f(x)$ measured in unpolarized deep inelastic scattering, and the structure functions $g_1(x)$ and $g_2(x)$ measured in deep inelastic scattering using polarized beams and targets ($x$ is the Bjorken scaling variable). The nucleon is modeled by a valence quark-diquark structure with $S,P$ and $D$ components. The shape of the wave functions and the relative strength of each component are fixed by making fits to the deep inelastic scattering data for the structure functions $f(x)$ and $g_1(x)$…
