This paper deals with front propagation dynamics of monostable equations with nonlocal dispersal in spatially periodic habitats. In the authors' earlier works, it is shown that a general spatially periodic monostable equation with nonlocal dispersal has a unique spatially periodic positive stationary solution and has a spreading speed in every direction. In this paper, we show that a spatially periodic nonlocal monostable equation with certain spatial homogeneity or small nonlocal dispersal distance has a unique stable periodic traveling wave solutions connecting its unique spatially periodic positive stationary solution and the trivial solution in every direction for all speeds greater than the spreading speed in that direction.
This paper is devoted to the investigation of spatial spreading speeds and traveling wave solutions of monostable evolution equations with nonlocal dispersal in time and space periodic habitats. It has been shown in an earlier work by the first two authors of the current paper that such an equation has a unique time and space periodic positive stable solution $u^*(t,x)$. In this paper, we show that such an equation has a spatial spreading speed $c^*(ξ)$ in the direction of any given unit vector $ξ$. A variational characterization of $c^*(ξ)$ is given. Under the assumption that the nonlocal dis…
We consider the accelerated propagation of solutions to equations with a nonlocal linear dispersion on the real line and monostable nonlinearities (both local or nonlocal, however, not degenerated at $0$), in the case when either of the dispersion kernel or the initial condition has regularly heavy tails at both $\pm\infty$, perhaps different. We show that, in such case, the propagation to the right direction is fully determined by the right tails of either the kernel or the initial condition. We describe both cases of integrable and monotone initial conditions which may give different orders …
This paper deals with traveling wavefronts for temporally delayed, spatially discrete reaction-diffusion equations. Using a combination of the weighted energy method and the Green function technique, we prove that all noncritical wavefronts are globally exponentially stable, and critical wavefronts are globally algebraically stable when the initial perturbations around the wavefront decay to zero exponentially near minus infinity regardless of the magnitude of time delay.
We study traveling waves for a reaction-diffusion equation with nonlocal anisotropic diffusion and a linear combination of local and nonlocal monostable-type reactions. We describe relations between speeds and asymptotic of profiles of traveling waves, and prove the uniqueness of the profiles up to shifts.
In this paper, we focus on the nonlocal dispersal monostable equation with seasonal succession, which can be used to describe the dynamics of species in an environment alternating between bad and good seasons. We first prove the existence and uniqueness of global positive solution, and then discuss the long time behaviors of solution. It is shown that its dynamics is completely determined by the sign of the principal eigenvalue, i.e., the time periodic problem has no positive solution and the solution of the initial value problem tends to zero when principal eigenvalue is non-negative, while t…
We consider a reaction-diffusion equation with nonlocal anisotropic diffusion and a linear combination of local and nonlocal monostable-type reactions in a space of bounded functions on $\mathbb{R}^d$. Using the properties of the corresponding semiflow, we prove the existence of monotone traveling waves along those directions where the diffusion kernel is exponentially integrable. Among other properties, we prove continuity, strict monotonicity and exponential integrability of the traveling wave profiles.
This paper is devoted to study the wave propagation and its stability for a class of two-component discrete diffusive systems. We first establish the existence of positive monotone monostable traveling wave fronts. Then, applying the techniques of weighted energy method and the comparison principle, we show that all solutions of the Cauchy problem for the discrete diffusive systems converge exponentially to the traveling wave fronts when the initial perturbations around the wave fronts lie in a suitable weighted Sobolev space. Our main results can be extended to more general discrete diffusive…
Stability of the traveling wave solution to a general class of one-dimensional nonlocal evolution equations is studied in $L^2$-spaces, thereby providing an alternative approach to the usual spectral analysis with respect to the supremum norm. We prove that the linearization around the traveling wave solution satisfies a Lyapunov-type stability condition in a weighted space $L^2(ρ)$ for a naturally associated density $ρ$. The result can be applied to obtain stability of the traveling wave solution under stochastic perturbations of additive or multiplicative type. For small wave speeds, we also…
This paper is devoted to the study of spatial propagation dynamics of species in locally spatially inhomogeneous patchy environments or media. For a lattice differential equation with monostable nonlinearity in a discrete homogeneous media, it is well-known that there exists a minimal wave speed such that a traveling front exists if and only if the wave speed is not slower than this minimal wave speed. We shall show that strongly localized spatial inhomogeneous patchy environments may prevent the existence of transition fronts (generalized traveling fronts). Transition fronts may exist in weak…
This paper is concerned with the entire solutions of a two-dimensional nonlocal periodic lattice dynamical system. With bistable assumption, it is well known that the system has three different types of traveling fronts. The existence of merging-front entire solutions originating from two fronts for the system have been established by Dong, Li \& Zhang [{\it Comm. Pur Appl. Anal.}, {\bf17}(2018), 2517-2545]. Under certain conditions on the wave speeds, and by some auxiliary rational functions with certain properties to construct appropriate super- and sub solutions of the system, we establish …
This paper is devoted to the study of persistence and extinction of a species modeled by nonlocal dispersal evolution equations in moving habitats with moving speed $c$. It is shown that the species becomes extinct if the moving speed $c$ is larger than the so called spreading speed $c^*$, where $c^*$ is determined by the maximum linearized growth rate function. If the moving speed $c$ is smaller than $c^*$, it is shown that the persistence of the species depends on the patch size of the habitat, namely, the species persists if the patch size is greater than some number $L^*$ and in this case,…
We investigate the traveling front solutions of a nonlocal Lotka Volterra system to illustrate the outcome of the competition between two species. The existence of the front solution is obtained through a new monotone iteration scheme, the uniqueness of the front solution corresponding to each propagation speed is proved by sliding domain method adapted to nonlocal systems, and the asymptotic decay rate of the fronts with critical and noncritical wave speeds is derived by a new method, which is different from the single equation case. The results demonstrate that in the long run, two weakly co…
The present paper is devoted to the study of existence, uniqueness and stability of transition fronts of nonlocal dispersal evolution equations in time heterogeneous media of bistable type under the unbalanced condition. We first study space nonincreasing transition fronts and prove various important qualitative properties, including uniform steepness, stability, uniform stability and exponential decaying estimates. Then, we show that any transition front, after certain space shift, coincides with a space nonincreasing transition front (if it exists), which implies the uniqueness, up to space …
In this paper, a brief review of delay population models and their applications in ecology is provided. The inclusion of diffusion and nonlocality terms in delay models has given more capabilities to these models enabling them to capture several ecological phenomena such as the Allee effect, waves of invasive species and spatio-temporal competitions of interacting species. Moreover, recent advances in the studies of traveling and stationary wave solutions of delay models are outlined. In particular, the existence of stationary and traveling wave solutions of delay models, stability of wave sol…
The presence of one or more species at some spatial locations but not others is a central matter in ecology. This phenomenon is related to ecological pattern formation. Nonlocal interactions can be considered as one of the mechanisms causing such a phenomenon. We propose a single-species, continuous time metapopulation model taking nonlocal interactions into account. Discrete probability kernels are used to model these interactions in a patchy environment. A linear stability analysis of the model shows that solutions to this equation exhibit pattern formation if the dispersal rate of the speci…
