We study the nonabelian vortex counting problem on $\mathbb{C}/\mathbb{Z}_p$. At first we calculate vortex partition functions on the orbifold space using localization techniques, then we find how to extract orbifold vortex partitions function from orbifold linear quiver instanton partition functions. Finally, we study the AGT like relation between orbifold SU(2) vortices and $\mathcal{N} = 1$ super Liouville theory in the mixed R/NS sector by fixing the dictionary among parameters in the common hypergeometric functions system.
We analyze conformal blocks with multiple (semi-)degenerate field insertions in Liouville/Toda conformal field theories an show that their vector space is fully reproduced by the four-dimensional limit of open topological string amplitudes on the strip with generic boundary conditions associated to a suitable quiver gauge theory. As a byproduct we identify the non-abelian vortex partition function with a specific fusion channel of degenerate conformal blocks.
For string theory on AdS$_3$ with pure NS-NS flux a complete set of DDF operators is constructed, from which one can read off the symmetry algebra of the spacetime CFT. Together with an analysis of the spacetime spectrum, this allows us to show that the CFT dual of superstring theory on ${\rm AdS}_3 \times {\rm S}^3 \times \mathbb{T}^4$ for generic NS-NS flux is the symmetric orbifold of $({\cal N}=4$ Liouville theory$)\times \mathbb{T}^4$. For the case of minimal flux ($k=1$), the Liouville factor disappears, and we just obtain the symmetric orbifold of $\mathbb{T}^4$, thereby giving further …
We identify the two-dimensional surfaces corresponding to certain solutions of the Liouville equation of importance for mathematical physics, the non-topological Chern-Simons (or Jackiw-Pi) vortex solutions, characterized by an integer $N \ge 1$. Such surfaces, that we call $S^2 (N)$, have positive constant Gaussian curvature, $K$, but are spheres only when $N=1$. They have edges, and, for any fixed $K$, have maximal radius $c$ that we find here to be $c = N / \sqrt{K} $. If such surfaces are constructed in a laboratory by using graphene (or any other Dirac material), our findings could be of …
The most general vortex solution of the Liouville equation (which arises in non-relativistic Chern-Simons theory) is associated with rational functions, $f(z)=P(z)/Q(z)$ where $P(z)$ and $Q(z)$ are both polynomials, $°P<°Q\equiv N$. This allows us to prove that the solution depends on $4N$ parameters without the use of an index theorem, as well as the flux quantization~: $Φ=-4Nπ(sign κ)$.
The Seiberg--Witten equations, when dimensionally reduced to $\bf R^{2}\mit$, naturally yield the Liouville equation, whose solutions are parametrized by an arbitrary analytic function $g(z)$. The magnetic flux $Φ$ is the integral of a singular Kaehler form involving $g(z)$; for an appropriate choice of $g(z)$ , $N$ coaxial or separated vortex configurations with $Φ=\frac{2πN}{e}$ are obtained when the integral is regularized. The regularized connection in the $\bf R^{1}\mit$ case coincides with the kink solution of $φ^{4}$ theory.
The Abelian and non-Abelian vortices on orbifolds are investigated based on the moduli matrix approach, which is a powerful method to deal with the BPS equation. The moduli space and the vortex collision are discussed through the moduli matrix as well as the regular space. It is also shown that a quiver structure is found in the Kahler quotient, and a half of ADHM is obtained for the vortex theory on the orbifolds as the case before orbifolding.
The paper examines correspondence among correlation functions of symmetric orbifold and string theory on AdS3 described by sl(2) Wess-Zumino-Novikov-Witten (WZNW) model. We start by writing down n-point function of twist operators in the symmetric orbifold in terms of the data of effective Riemann surface. It is then shown that the correlation function can be reproduced from the sl(2) WZNW model. The computation is based on the claim that string worldsheet is given by the same Riemann surface and the reduction method from sl(2) WZNW model to Liouville field theory. We first consider the genus …
Recently, string theory on $\text{AdS}_3 \times \text{S}^3 \times \mathbb{T}^4$ with one unit of NS-NS flux ($k=1$) was argued to be exactly dual to the symmetric orbifold of $ \mathbb{T}^4$, and in particular, the full (unprotected) spectrum was matched between the two descriptions. This duality was later extended to the case with higher NS-NS background flux for which the long string sector was argued to be described by the symmetric product orbifold of $(\mathcal{N}=4$ $\text{Liouville}) \times \mathbb{T}^4$. In this paper we study correlation functions for the bosonic analogue of this dual…
Gauge theories in the presence of codimension two vortex defects are known to be related to the theories on orbifolds. By using this relation we study the localized path integrals of 2D N=(2,2) SUSY gauge theories with point-like vortex defects. We present a formula for the correlation functions of vortex defects inserted at the north and the south poles of squashed spheres. For Abelian gauge theories the correlators are locally constant as functions of the parameters of the defect, but exhibit discontinuity at some threshold values determined by the deficit angle at the poles and the R-charge…
The vortex partition function in 2d N = (2,2) U(N) gauge theory is derived from the field theoretical point of view by using the moduli matrix approach. The character for the tangent space at each moduli space fixed point is written in terms of the moduli matrix, and then the vortex partition function is obtained by applying the localization formula. We find that dealing with the fermionic zero modes is crucial to obtain the vortex partition function with the anti-fundamental and adjoint matters in addition to the fundamental chiral multiplets. The orbifold vortex partition function is also in…
In this paper we identify the problem of equivariant vortex counting in a $(2,2)$ supersymmetric two dimensional quiver gauged linear sigma model with that of computing the equivariant Gromov-Witten invariants of the GIT quotient target space determined by the quiver. We provide new contour integral formulae for the ${\cal I}$ and ${\cal J}$-functions encoding the equivariant quantum cohomology of the target space. Its chamber structure is shown to be encoded in the analytical properties of the integrand. This is explained both via general arguments and by checking several key cases. We show h…
We consider a ${\hat c}=1$ model in the fermionic black hole background. For this purpose we consider a model which contains both the N=1 and the N=2 super-Liouville interactions. We propose that this model is dual to a recently proposed type 0A matrix quantum mechanics model with vortex deformations. We support our conjecture by showing that non-perturbative corrections to the free energy computed by both the matrix model and the super-Liouville theories agree exactly by treating the N=2 interaction as a small perturbation. We also show that a two-point function on sphere calculated from the …
A classification of all periodic self-dual static vortex solutions of the Jackiw-Pi model is given. Physically acceptable solutions of the Liouville equation are related to a class of functions which we term Omega-quasi-elliptic. This class includes, in particular, the elliptic functions and also contains a function previously investigated by Olesen. Some examples of solutions are studied numerically and we point out a peculiar phenomenon of lost vortex charge in the limit where the period lengths tend to infinity, that is, in the planar limit.
The modified XY model is a modification of the XY model by addition of a half-periodic term. The modified Goldstone model is a regular and continuum version of the modified XY model. The former admits a vortex molecule, that is, two half-quantized vortices connected by a domain wall, as a regular topological soliton solution to the equation of motion while the latter admits it as a singular configuration. Here we define the ${\mathbb Z}_n$ modified XY and Goldstone models as the $n=2$ case to be the modified XY and Goldstone models, respectively. We exhaust all stable and metastalble vortex so…
We explore the non-perturbative Dyson-Schwinger equations obeyed by the partition functions of the $Ω$-deformed $\mathcal{N}=2, d=4$ supersymmetric linear quiver gauge theories in the presence of surface defects. We demonstrate that the partition functions of different types of defects (orbifold or vortex strings) are related by analytic continuation. We introduce Darboux coordinates on a patch of the moduli space of flat $SL(N)$-connections on a sphere with special punctures, which generalize the NRS coordinates defined in the $SL(2)$ case. Finally, we compare the generating function of the L…
We review and study the duality between string theory formulated on a curved exact background (the two dimensional black hole) and string theory in flat space with a tachyon-like potential. We generalize previous results in this subject by discussing a twisted version of the Fateev-Zamolodchikov-Zamolodchikov conjecture. This duality is shown to hold at the level of N-point correlation functions on the sphere topology, and connects tree-level string amplitudes in the Euclidean version of the 2D black hole (x time) to correlation functions in a non-linear sigma-model in flat space but in presen…

We illustrate the use of the theory of $qq$-characters by deriving the BPZ and KZ-type equations for the partition functions of certain surface defects in quiver ${\mathcal N}=2$ theories. We generate a surface defect in the linear quiver theory by embedding it into a theory with additional node, with specific masses of the fundamental hypermultiplets. We prove that the supersymmetric partition function of this theory with $SU(2)^{r-3}$ gauge group verifies the celebrated Belavin-Polyakov-Zamolodchikov equation of two dimensional Liouville theory. We also study the $SU(N)$ theory with $2N$ fun…
