We study the prospects of probing large extra dimension model at the LHC through neutral triple gauge boson production processes. In theories with extra dimensions these processes result from the exchange of a tower of massive graviton modes between the SM particles. We consider γγγ, γγZ, γZ Z and ZZZ production processes, and present our results for various kinematic distributions at the LHC for \sqrt{S}=14 TeV.
In this comment we present an analysis of electroweak neutral triple gauge boson couplings projected out of the gauge sector of the extended non-commutative standard model. A brief overview of the current experimental situation is given.
We evaluate dominant two-loop corrections to the triple Higgs coupling and strength of a first-order electroweak phase transition in the inert Higgs doublet model. It is found that sunset diagrams can predominantly enhance the former and reduce the latter. As a result, the triple Higgs coupling normalized by the standard model value at two-loop level is more enhanced than the corresponding one-loop value.
We study the correlation between the value of the triple Higgs coupling and the nature of the electroweak phase transition. We use an effective potential approach, including higher order, non-renormalizable terms coming from integrating out new physics. We show that if only the dimension six operators are considered, large positive deviations of the triple Higgs coupling from its Standard Model (SM) value are predicted in the regions of parameter space consistent with a strong first order electroweak phase transition (SFOEPT). We also show that at higher orders sizable and negative deviations …
A phenomenological consequence of electroweak baryogenesis is studied in connection with the Higgs physics. In a two Higgs double model, the first order phase transition can be strong enough to allow the electroweak baryogenesis due to the effect of extra Higgs bosons. We investigate the quantum correction to the triple coupling of the lightest Higgs boson in such a scenario, and find that the condition of the strong first order phase transition necessarily leads to the deviation of at least 10 percent from the standard model prediction. Such magnitude of the deviation can be identified in fut…
The neutral component of a real pseudoscalar electroweak (EW) triplet can produce a diphoton excess at 750 GeV, if it is somewhat mixed with an EW singlet pseudoscalar. This triplet-singlet mixing allows for greater freedom in the diboson branching ratios than the singlet-only case, but it is still possible to probe the parameter space extensively with 300 fb$^{-1}$. The charged component of the triplet is pair-produced at the LHC, which results in a striking signal in the form of a pair of $Wγ$ resonances with an irreducible rate of 0.27 fb. Other signatures include multiboson final states fr…
It was shown recently that the original SU(5) theory of Georgi and Glashow, augmented with an adjoint fermionic multiplet 24_F, can be made compatible both with neutrino masses and gauge coupling unification. In particular, the model predicts that either electroweak-triplet states are light, within the reach of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), or proton decay will become accessible at the next generation of megaton-scale facilities. In this paper, we present the computation of the correlation function between the electroweak-triplet masses and the unification scale at the next-to-next-to-leadi…
We relate all $C$-- and $P$--invariant anomalous triple vector--boson couplings to the oblique electroweak parameters. LEP constraints on the latter then yield the strongest and most general simultaneous bounds to date on the former. Even if the oblique parameters assume their Standard Model values precisely, these bounds would not shrink to zero---thus underscoring the need for direct experimental probes at future colliders.
We study collider signatures of electroweak baryogenesis in the two Higgs doublet model and the minimal supersymmetric standard model. It is found that the trilinear coupling of the lightest Higgs boson receives large quantum corrections if the electroweak phase transition is strongly first order for successful baryogenesis. In the two Higgs doublet model, the magnitude of the deviation from the standard model value is shown to be larger than 10 percent. Such a deviation can be detected at a future electron-positron linear collider.
We investigate the effect of introducing a sequential generation of chiral fermions in the Higgs Triplet Model with nontrivial mixing between the doublet and triplet Higgs. We use the available LHC data for Higgs boson production and decay rates, the constraints on the fourth generation masses, and impose electroweak precision constraints from the S, T and U parameters. Our analysis shows that an SM-like Higgs boson state at ~125 GeV can be accommodated in the Higgs Triplet Model with four generations, and thus, that four generations survive collider and electroweak precision constraints in mo…
We present a calculation of the next-to-leading-order QCD and electroweak corrections to WWW production with leptonically decaying $\mathrm{W}$ bosons at the LHC, fully taking into account off-shell contributions, intermediary resonances, and spin correlations. The contributions of the quark-antiquark-induced electroweak correction to typical fiducial cross sections at the LHC are of the order of 5-8% and grow to tens of percent in the high-energy tails of distributions. We observe strong cancellations among the positive quark-photon and negative quark-antiquark-induced electroweak corrections…
We have analysed the production of WW and WZ vector-boson pairs at the LHC. These processes give rise to four-fermion final states, and are particularly sensitive to possible non-standard trilinear gauge-boson couplings. We have studied the interplay between the influence of these anomalous couplings and the effect of the complete logarithmic electroweak O(α) corrections. Radiative corrections to the Standard Model processes in double-pole approximation and non-standard terms due to trilinear couplings are implemented into a Monte Carlo program for p p -> 4f (+γ) with final states involving fo…
In this paper, we present the precision predictions for three photon production in the standard model (SM) at the ILC including the full next-to-leading (NLO) electroweak (EW) corrections, high order initial state radiation (h.o.ISR) contributions and beamstrahlung effects. We present the LO and the NLO EW+h.o.ISR+beamstrahlung corrected total cross sections for various colliding energy when $\sqrt s \ge 200 {\rm GeV}$ and the kinematic distributions of final photons with $\sqrt s = 500 {\rm GeV}$ at ILC, and find that the NLO EW corrections, the h.o.ISR contributions and the beamstrahlung eff…
We study radiative corrections to the electroweak parameters in the Higgs model with the Y=1 triplet field, which is introduced in the scenario of generating neutrino masses based on the so-called type II seesaw mechanism. In this model, the rho parameter deviates from unity at the tree level. Consequently, the electroweak sector of the model is described by the four input parameters such as $α_{\text{em}}$, $G_F$, $m_Z$ and $\sin^2θ_W$. We calculate the one loop contribution to the W boson mass as well as to the rho parameter in order to clarify the possible mass spectrum of the extra Higgs b…
Triboson processes allow for a measurement of the triple and quartic couplings of the Standard Model gauge bosons, which can be used to constrain anomalous gauge couplings. In this paper we calculate the next-to-leading order electroweak corrections to fully off-shell $W^-W^+W^+$ production, namely the production of a $\ell_1^-\ell_2^+\ell_3^+\barν_{\ell_1}ν_{\ell_2}ν_{\ell_3}$ final state with ($\ell_i=e,μ$), including all triple, double, single and non resonant topologies and interferences of diagrams with all different vector boson ($W,Z,γ$) intermediate states. We find large cancellations …
Probing the Higgs potential and new physics behind the electroweak symmetry breaking is one of the most important issues of particle physics. In particular, nature of electroweak phase transition is essential for understanding physics at the early Universe, such that the strongly first order phase transition is required for a successful scenario of electroweak baryogenesis. The strongly first order phase transition is expected to be tested by precisely measuring the triple Higgs boson coupling at future colliders like the International Linear Collider. It can also be explored via the spectrum …
In this work, we perform the electroweak phase transition study with the Georgi-Machacek model. We investigate both the one-step and two-step strong first order electroweak phase transition (SFOEWPT). The SFOEWPT viable parameter spaces could be tested by the future 14 TeV LHC, HL-LHC, and ILC. The LHC Higgs signal strength measurements severely bound the SFOEWPT valid parameter spaces, a tinny region of the mixing angle between the neutral fields of the isospin-doublet and isospin-triplet scalars around $α\sim 0$ can allow the two-step SFOEWPT to occur. The triplet vacuum expectation value (V…
We present a study of the sensitivity of an International Linear Collider (ILC) to electroweak parameters in the absence of a light Higgs boson. In particular, we consider those parameters that have been inaccessible at previous colliders, quartic gauge couplings. Within a generic effective-field theory context we analyze all processes that contain quasi-elastic weak-boson scattering, using complete six-fermion matrix elements in unweighted event samples, fast simulation of the ILC detector, and a multidimensional parameter fit of the set of anomalous couplings. The analysis does not rely on s…
We calculate the three gauge-boson production in the Standard Model at Fermilab Tevatron energies. At $\sqrt s=2$ TeV in $p\bar p$ collisions, the cross sections for the triple gauge-boson production are typically of order 10 femtobarns (fb). For the pure leptonic final states from the gauge-boson decays and with some minimal cuts on final state photons, the cross sections for $p \bar p \rightarrow W^\pm γγ, Zγγ$ and $W^+W^- γ$ processes are of order a few fb, resulting in a few dozen clean leptonic events for an integrated luminosity of 10 fb$^{-1}$. The pure leptonic modes from other gauge-b…
Future high-energy $\textrm{e}^+\textrm{e}^-$ colliders will provide some of the most precise tests of the Standard Model. Statistical uncertainties on electroweak precision observables and triple gauge couplings are expected to improve by orders of magnitude over current measurements. This provides a new challenge in accurately assessing and minimizing the impact of experimental systematic uncertainties. Beam polarization may hold a unique potential to isolate and determine the size of systematic effects. So far, studies have mainly focused on the statistical improvements from beam polarisati…
$W$ boson pair production processes at $e^+e^-$ and $pp$ colliders have been conventionally interpreted as measurements of $WWZ$ and $WWγ$ triple gauge couplings (TGCs). Such interpretation is based on the assumption that new physics effects other than anomalous TGCs are negligible. While this "TGC dominance assumption" was well-motivated and useful at LEP2 thanks to precision electroweak constraints, it is already challenged by recent LHC data. In fact, contributions from anomalous $Z$ boson couplings that are allowed by electroweak precision data but neglected in LHC analyses, being enhanced…
We perform a comprehensive study of the Higgs couplings, gauge-boson couplings to fermions and triple gauge boson vertices. We work in the framework of effective theories including the effects of the dimension-six operators contributing to these observables. We determine the presently allowed range for the coefficients of these operators via a 20 parameter global fit to the electroweak precision data, as well as electroweak diboson and Higgs production data from LHC Run 1 and 2. We quantify the improvement on the determination of the 20 Wilson coefficients by the inclusion of the Run 2 results…
One-loop contributions to the Higgs potential at finite temperatures are discussed in the supersymmetric standard model with four Higgs doublet chiral superfields as well as a pair of charged singlet chiral superfields. The mass of the lightest Higgs boson $h$ is determined only by the D-term at the tree-level in this model, while the triple Higgs boson coupling for $hhh$ can receive a significant radiative correction. The same nondecoupling effect can also contribute to realize the sufficient first order electroweak phase transition, which is required for a successful scenario of electroweak …
One of the simplest ways to account for the observed W-boson mass shift is to introduce the $SU(2)_L$ triplet Higgs boson with zero hypercharge, whose vacuum expectation value is about 3 GeV. If the triplet is heavy enough at $\mathcal{O}(1)$ TeV, it essentially contributes only to $T$ parameter without any conflict to the observation. The presence of a complex triplet Higgs boson raises the $SU(2)_L$ gauge coupling constant to $α_2(M_{\rm PL} )\simeq 1/44$ at the Planck scale. Thanks to this larger gauge coupling constant, we show that the electroweak axion vacuum energy explains the observed…
We discuss a strongly-coupled extended Higgs sector with the 126 GeV Higgs boson, which is a low-energy effective theory of the supersymmetric SU(2)$_H$ gauge thoery that causes confinement. In this effective theory, we study the parameter region where electroweak phase transition is of strongly first order, as required for successful electroweak baryogenesis. In such a parameter region, the model has a Landau pole at the order of 10 TeV, which corresponds to the confinement scale of the SU(2)$_H$ gauge theory. We find that the large coupling constant which blows up at the Landau pole results …
We study phenomenology of electroweak-interacting fermionic dark matter (DM) with a mass of $\mathcal{O}(100)$ GeV. Constructing the effective Lagrangian that describes the interactions between the Higgs boson and the SU(2)$_L$ isospin multiplet fermion, we evaluate the electric dipole moment (EDM) of electron, the signal strength of Higgs boson decay to two photons and the spin-independent elastic-scattering cross section with proton. As representative cases, we consider the SU(2)$_L$ triplet fermions with zero/nonzero hypercharges and SU(2)$_L$ doublet fermion. It is found that the electron …
In models with supersymmetry breaking by boundary conditions on an extra dimension it is possible to relate in a quantitative natural way the Fermi scale to the size of the extra dimension. We analyze in detail the compatibility of such models with ElectroWeak Precision Tests.
The effective Lagrangian expansion provides a framework to study effects of new physics at the electroweak scale. To make full use of LHC data in constraining higher-dimensional operators we need to include both the Higgs and the electroweak gauge sector in our study. We first present an analysis of the relevant di-boson production LHC results to update constraints on triple gauge boson couplings. Our bounds are several times stronger than those obtained from LEP data. Next, we show how in combination with Higgs measurements the triple gauge vertices lead to a significant improvement in the en…
Many types of physics beyond the standard model include an extended electroweak gauge group. If these extensions are associated with flavor symmetry breaking, the gauge interactions will not be flavor-universal. In this note we update the bounds placed by electroweak data on the existence of flavor non-universal extensions to the standard model in the context of topcolor assisted technicolor (TC2), noncommuting extended technicolor (NCETC), and the ununified standard model (UUM). In the first two cases the extended gauge interactions couple to the third generation fermions differently than to …
In this paper, triple neutral electroweak gauge boson production processes, viz. γγγ, γγZ, γZZ and ZZZ productions merged to 1-jet have been studied at the leading order in QCD in the context of Randall-Sundrum model at the LHC with center of mass energy \sqrt{S}=13 TeV. Decay of Z bosons into lepton-pairs has been considered. We present a selection of kinematical distributions matched to parton shower and show their deviation from the SM results as a result of the RS model. The uncertainties as a result of the factorization and renormalization scales are also presented.
Models of type I seesaw can be implemented at the electroweak scale in a natural way provided that the heavy neutrino singlets are quasi-Dirac particles. In such case, their contribution to light neutrino masses has the suppression of a small lepton number violating parameter, so that light neutrino masses can arise naturally even if the seesaw scale is low and the heavy neutrino mixing is large. We implement the same mechanism with fermionic triplets in type III seesaw, deriving the interactions of the new quasi-Dirac neutrinos and heavy charged leptons with the SM fermions. We then study the…
The basics of a supersymmetric left-right model are reviewed. The production and subsequent decays of the doubly charged triplet higgsino $ \tildeΔ^{\pm\pm}$ in the Next Linear Collider are discussed. The slepton pair production in the framework of this model is also analysed.
Triple-W-boson production in proton-proton collisions allows for a direct access to the triple and quartic gauge couplings and provides a window to the mechanism of electroweak symmetry breaking. It is an important process to test the Standard Model (SM) and might be background to physics beyond the SM. We present a calculation of the next-to-leading order (NLO) electroweak corrections to the production of WWW final states at proton-proton colliders with on-shell W bosons and combine the electroweak with the NLO QCD corrections. We study the impact of the corrections to the integrated cross se…
We study the collider phenomenology of the electroweak phase transition and electroweak baryogenesis in the framework of the effective field theory. Our study shows that the effective theory using the dimension-6 operators can enforce strong first order phase transition and provide sizable CP violation to realize a successful electroweak baryogenesis. Such dimension-6 operators can induce interesting Higgs phenomenology that can be verified at colliders such as the LHC and the planning CEPC. We then demonstrate that this effective theory can originate from vector-like quarks and the triplet Hi…
We review the possibilities that the Kaluza-Klein excitations of graviton states induce electroweak symmetry breaking and that electroweak symmetry breaking could have a large impact on KK phenomenology.
We show that models of dynamical electroweak symmetry breaking can possess an extremely rich finite temperature phase diagram. We suggest that early-universe extra electroweak phase transitions can appear in these models.
A graphical method is developed to study the total or partial cancellation of gauge-dependent (divergence) terms in electroweak theory. The method is used to work out rules in the Gervais-Neveu gauge, whose triple-gauge vertex contains three terms rather than the usual six. This and other features of the gauge lead to an enormous saving of algebraic labor in the actual computations, as will be illustrated explicitly in the tree process $W^++W^-\to γ+γ$.
Renormalized triple gauge vertices (TGV) are examined within the two-Higgs-doublet model of electroweak interactions. Deviations of the TGV from their standard-model values are calculated at the one-loop level, in the on-shell renormalization scheme. As a consistency check, UV divergence cancellations anticipated on symmetry grounds are verified explicitly. Dependence of the TGV finite parts on the masses of possible heavy Higgs scalars is discussed briefly.
In the framework of the effective field theory method, we use the experimental data and the perturbative unitarity bounds to determine the values and uncertainty of all the 11 chiral coefficients ($\al_i, i=0, ..., 10$) of the standard electroweak chiral Lagrangian. Up to linear terms in $\al_i$, we provide the one-loop renormalization group equations of all the chiral coefficients, which are calculated in the Feynman-'t Hooft gauge using the modified minimal subtraction scheme. With the improved renormalization group equations to sum over the logarithmic corrections, we analyze the current ex…
This is a pedagogical introduction into the possible uses and effects of extra dimensions in electroweak (TeV scale) physics, and in particular to models of electroweak symmetry breaking via boundary conditions ("higgsless models"). It is self contained: all the aspects of extra dimensional and electroweak physics used here are reviewed, before we apply these concepts to higgsless models. In the first lecture gauge theories in an extra dimension and on an interval are discussed. In the second lecture we describe the basic structure of higgsless models, while in the third lecture we discuss fer…
The $WW$ production is the primary channel to directly probe the triple gauge couplings. We first analyze the $e^+ e^- \rightarrow W^+ W^-$ process at the future lepton collider, China's proposed Circular Electron-Positron Collider (CEPC). We use the five kinematical angles in this process to constrain the anomalous triple gauge couplings and relevant dimension six operators at the CEPC up to the order of magnitude of $10^{-4}$. The most sensible information is obtained from the distributions of the production scattering angle and the decay azimuthal angles. We also estimate constraints at the…
We revisit in some more detail a recent specific proposal for the breaking of the electroweak symmetry and of supersymmetry by a compact extra dimension. Possible mass terms for the Higgs and the matter hypermultiplets are considered and their effects on the spectrum analyzed. Previous conclusions are reinforced and put on firmer ground.
We study the electroweak phase transition and the critical bubble in the scale-invariant two Higgs doublet model taking the recent LHC data into account. The sphaleron energy in this model is evaluated for the first time. It is found that the strong first-order electroweak phase transition is the inevitable consequence to be consistent with the observed 125 GeV Higgs boson. In such a case, the signal strength of the Higgs decay to two gammas and the triple Higgs boson coupling could deviate from the SM values by $-10$% and $+82$%, respectively.
We review Electroweak breaking in warped Extra Dimensions and show how it is constrained by Electroweak precision tests. We then proceed to describe a model which is based on a bulk Higgs field and a metric that is deformed from the usual five dimensional Anti de Sitter space near the Infrared (IR) boundary. It allows to softly decouple the Higgs field from the Kaluza Klein excitations near the IR and thus reduces their contribution to the precision observables.
Triple gauge boson vertex, which is inherent to the model of a dynamical breaking of the electroweak symmetry, leads to an effective four-fermion interaction of quarks. Calculation of the effective coupling constant in the framework of the model results in agreement with recent information on enhancement of inclusive high E_T jet cross section at \sqrt{s} = 1.8 TeV. Thus this effect may be connected with triple gauge boson vertex with coupling constant λ\approx 0.7, which will clearly manifest itself at the soon forthcoming LEP II.
The two-loop corrections to the electroweak gauge bosons quartic couplings growing quadratically with the Higgs boson mass are calculated in the Standard Model in the limit of large Higgs mass. The corrections to WWWW, WWZZ and ZZZZ four-vertices are found to be an order of magnitude larger than the two-loop m_H^2 corrections to light fermion and triple gauge boson vertices. For a heavy Higgs boson with a mass around 1 TeV the corrections are at the several percent level and in principle could be observed experimentally.
Using gauge invariant effective Lagrangians in 1+3 dimensions describing the Standard Model in 1+4 dimensions, we explore dynamical electroweak symmetry breaking. The Top Quark Seesaw model arises naturally, as well as the full CKM structure. We include a discussion of effects of warping, and indicate how other dynamical schemes may also be realized.
In this work, some of the NLO QCD corrections for pp -> VVjj + X are presented. A program in Mathematica based on the structure of FeynCalc which automatically simplifies a set of amplitudes up to the hexagon level of rank 5 has been created for this purpose. We focus on two different topologies. The first involves all the virtual contributions needed for quadruple electroweak vector boson production, i.e. pp -> VVVV + X. In the second, the remaining "bosonic" corrections to electroweak triple vector boson production with an additional jet (pp -> VVV j + X) are computed. We show the factorizat…
The VBFNLO program package is a collection of Monte Carlo programs for the calculation of NLO QCD corrections to vector boson fusion cross sections, double and triple vector boson production, or the production of two electroweak bosons in association with an additional jet. An overview is given of the processes and features implemented in VBFNLO. WWgamma and Wgamma jet production are discussed as examples.
Electroweak symmetry breaking may be naturally induced by the observed quark and gauge fields in extra dimensions without a fundamental Higgs field. We show that a composite Higgs doublet can arise as a bound state of $(t, b)_L$ and a linear combination of the Kaluza-Klein states of $t_R$, due to QCD in extra dimensions. The top quark mass depends on the number of active $t_R$ Kaluza-Klein modes, and is consistent with the experimental value.
We consider the coupling to gravity in 4+delta dimensions of a non linear electroweak symmetry breaking sector, with delta compactified dimensions, and derive an effective lagrangian by integrating over the KK excitations of the graviton and of the dilaton. The effective chiral lagrangian describes the interactions of the electroweak gauge bosons and the goldstone bosons from the electroweak breaking.
