We describe a flagging and calibration pipeline intended for making quick look images from GMRT data. The package identifies and flags corrupted visibilities, computes calibration solutions and interpolates these onto the target source. These flagged calibrated visibilities can be directly imaged using any standard imaging package. The pipeline is written in "C" with the most compute intensive algorithms being parallelized using OpenMP.

We present the first fully automated pipeline for making images from the interferometric data obtained from the upgraded Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope (uGMRT) called CAsa Pipeline-cum-Toolkit for Upgraded Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope data REduction - CAPTURE. It is a python program that uses tasks from the NRAO Common Astronomy Software Applications (CASA) to perform the steps of flagging of bad data, calibration, imaging and self-calibration. The salient features of the pipeline are: i) a fully automatic mode to go from the raw data to a self-calibrated continuum image, ii) specialized f…
We present a new algorithm to perform wide-field radio interferometric image reconstruction, with exact non-coplanar correction, that scales to big-data. This algorithm allows us to image 2 billion visibilities on 50 nodes of a computing cluster for a 25 by 25 degree field of view, in a little over an hour. We build on the recently developed distributed $w$-stacking $w$-projection hybrid algorithm, extending it to include a new distributed degridding algorithm that balances the computational load of the $w$-projection gridding kernels. The implementation of our algorithm is made publicly avail…
Flagging of Radio Frequency Interference (RFI) is an increasingly important challenge in radio astronomy. We present R-Net, a deep convolutional ResNet architecture that significantly outperforms existing algorithms -- including the default MeerKAT RFI flagger, and deep U-Net architectures -- across all metrics including AUC, F1-score and MCC. We demonstrate the robustness of this improvement on both single dish and interferometric simulations and, using transfer learning, on real data. Our R-Net model's precision is approximately $90\%$ better than the current MeerKAT flagger at $80\%$ recall…
Radio interferometric gain calibration can be biased by incomplete sky models and radio frequency interference, resulting in calibration artefacts that can restrict the dynamic range of the resulting images. It has been suggested that calibration algorithms employing heavy-tailed likelihood functions are less susceptible to this due to their robustness against outliers in the data. We present an algorithm based on a Student's t-distribution which leverages the framework of complex optimisation and Wirtinger calculus for efficient and robust interferometric gain calibration. We integrate this a…
We describe a new polarized imaging pipeline implemented in the FHD software package. The pipeline is based on the optimal mapmaking imaging approach and performs horizon-to-horizon image reconstruction in all polarization modes. We discuss the formalism behind the pipeline's polarized analysis, describing equivalent representations of the polarized beam response, or Jones matrix. We show that, for arrays where antennas have uniform polarization alignments, defining a non-orthogonal instrumental polarization basis enables accurate and efficient image reconstruction. Finally, we present a new c…

Epoch of Reionization data analysis requires unprecedented levels of accuracy in radio interferometer pipelines. We have developed an imaging power spectrum analysis to meet these requirements and generate robust 21 cm EoR measurements. In this work, we build a signal path framework to mathematically describe each step in the analysis, from data reduction in the FHD package to power spectrum generation in the $\varepsilon$ppsilon package. In particular, we focus on the distinguishing characteristics of FHD/$\varepsilon$ppsilon: highly accurate spectral calibration, extensive data verification …

Modern interferometers routinely provide radio-astronomical images down to subarcsecond resolution. However, interferometers filter out spatial scales larger than those sampled by the shortest baselines, which affects the measurement of both spatial and spectral features. Complementary single-dish data are vital for recovering the true flux distribution of spatially resolved astronomical sources with such extended emission. In this work, we provide an overview of the prominent available methods to combine single-dish and interferometric observations. We test each of these methods in the framew…
We present a calibration component for the Murchison Widefield Array All-Sky Virtual Observatory (MWA ASVO) utilising a newly developed PostgreSQL database of calibration solutions. Since its inauguration in 2013, the MWA has recorded over thirty-four petabytes of data archived at the Pawsey Supercomputing Centre. According to the MWA Data Access policy, data become publicly available eighteen months after collection. Therefore, most of the archival data are now available to the public. Access to public data was provided in 2017 via the MWA ASVO interface, which allowed researchers worldwide t…
While most purpose-built 21cm intensity mapping experiments are close-packed interferometer arrays, general-purpose dish arrays should also be capable of measuring the cosmological 21cm signal. This can be achieved most efficiently if the array is used as a collection of scanning autocorrelation dishes rather than as an interferometer. As a first step towards demonstrating the feasibility of this observing strategy, we show that we are able to successfully calibrate dual-polarisation autocorrelation data from 64 MeerKAT dishes in the L-band (856-1712 MHz, 4096 channels), with 10.5 hours of dat…
Next generation radio interferometric telescopes are entering an era of big data with extremely large data sets. While these telescopes can observe the sky in higher sensitivity and resolution than before, computational challenges in image reconstruction need to be overcome to realize the potential of forthcoming telescopes. New methods in sparse image reconstruction and convex optimization techniques (cf. compressive sensing) have shown to produce higher fidelity reconstructions of simulations and real observations than traditional methods. This article presents distributed and parallel algor…
We describe the processing of the PHANGS-ALMA survey and present the PHANGS-ALMA pipeline, a public software package that processes calibrated interferometric and total power data into science-ready data products. PHANGS-ALMA is a large, high-resolution survey of CO J=2-1 emission from nearby galaxies. The observations combine ALMA's main 12-m array, the 7-m array, and total power observations and use mosaics of dozens to hundreds of individual pointings. We describe the processing of the u-v data, imaging and deconvolution, linear mosaicking, combining interferometer and total power data, noi…
