We study the full counting statistics (FCS) of electron tunneling through a multi-terminal quantum dot in the Kondo regime within the slave-boson mean field theory. By employing the A.O. Gogolin and A. Komnik's method of calculating the FCS generating function based on the nonequilibrium Green's function [Phys. Rev. B {\bf 73}, 195301 (2006)], we obtain the counting field $λ$-dependent self-consistent equations for the mean values of the slave-boson fields and the explicit expression for the derivative of the adiabatic potential of the system with respect to the counting fields. Performing perturbative expansion to the first order of $λ$, we find an extra contribution to the shot noise due to the bias-induced Bose field fluctuation, and then confirm that the nonequilibrium particle number fluctuation plays an important role in the current noise of the Kondo dot: enhancement of the current auto-correlation and a positive current cross-correlation.
We present a {\it nonequilibrium nonperturbative} field theory for the Kondo effect in strongly interacting quantum dots at finite temperatures. Unifying the slave-boson representation with the Keldysh field integral an effective Keldysh action is derived and explored in the vicinity of the zero slave-bosonic field configuration. The theory properly reflects the essential features of the Kondo physics and at the same time significantly simplifies a field-theoretic treatment of the phenomenon, avoiding complicated saddle point analysis or 1/N expansions, used so far. Importantly, our theory adm…
We study the electronic transport in a double quantum dot structure connected to leads in the Kondo regime for both series and parallel arrangements. By applying a finite-U slave boson technique in the mean field approximation we explore the effect of level degeneracy in the conductance through the system. Our results show that for the series connection, as the energy difference of the localized dot levels increases, the tunneling via the Kondo state is destroyed. For the parallel configuration, we find an interesting interplay of state symmetry and conductance. Our results are in good agremen…
In this work we use the Slave Boson Mean Field Approximation at finite U to study the effects of spin-spin correlations in the transport properties of two quantum dots coupled in series to metallic leads. Different quantum regimes of this system are studied in a wide range of parameter space. The main aspects related to the interplay between the half-filling Kondo effect and the antiferromagnetic correlation between the quantum dots are reviewed. Slave boson results for conductance, local density of states in the quantum dots, and the renormalized energy parameters, are presented. As a differe…
We investigate the Josephson coupling between two superconductors mediated through an infinite U Anderson impurity, adapting a variational wavefunction approach which has proved successful for the Kondo model. Unlike the Kondo problem, however, a crossing of singlet and doublet state energies may be produced by varying the ratio of Kondo energy to superconducting gap, in agreement with recent work of Clerk and Ambegaokar. We construct the phase diagram for the junction and discuss properties of different phases. In addition, we find the singlet and doublet state energies within a slave boson m…
Kondo physics in nonequilibrium interacting nanoscale devices is an attractive fundamental many-particle phenomenon with a rich potential for applications. Due to enormous complexity its clear and flexible theory is still highly desirable. We develop a physically transparent analytical theory capable to correctly describe the Kondo effect in strongly interacting systems at temperatures close to and above the Kondo temperature. We derive a nonequilibrium Keldysh field theory valid for a system with any finite electron-electron interaction which is much stronger than the coupling of the system t…
We study a strongly interacting quantum dot connected to a normal and to a superconducting lead. By means of the slave-boson technique we investigate the low temperature regime and discuss electrical transport through the dot. We find that the zero bias anomaly in the current-voltage characteristics which is associated to the occurance of the Kondo resonance in the quantum dot, is enhanced in the presence of superconductivity, due to resonant Andreev scattering.
We investigate electron transport under the two impurity Kondo problem with the Aharonov--Bohm and Aharonov--Casher effects. These interference effects induce the Ising-coupled Ruderman--Kittel--Kasuya--Yosida (RKKY) interaction. We discuss the inter- and intra-site spin conductance as well as charge conductance in the Kondo and the mixed-valence regimes using the slave boson mean field approximation.
We study the effect of disorder in strongly interacting small atomic chains. Using the Kotliar- Ruckenstein slave-boson approach we diagonalize the Hamiltonian via scattering matrix theory. We numerically solve the Kondo transmission and the slave-boson parameters that allow us to calculate the Kondo temperature. We demonstrate that in the weak disorder regime, disorder in the energy levels of the dopants induces a non-screened disorder in the Kondo couplings of the atoms. We show that disorder increases the Kondo temperature of a perfect chain. We find that this disorder in the couplings come…
We study the electron transport through a magnetic molecular transistor in the Kondo limit using the slave boson technique. We include the electron-phonon coupling and analyze the cases where the spin of the molecule is either S=1/2 or S=1. We use the Schrieffer-Wolff transformation to write down a low energy Hamiltonian for the system. In the presence of electron-phonon coupling, and for $S\smeq1$, the resulting Kondo Hamiltonian has two active channels. At low temperature, these two channels interfere destructively, leading to a zero conductance.
Magnetic impurity adsorbed on one of the carbon planes of a bilayer graphene is studied. The formation of the many-body SU(2) and SU(4) resonances close to the bandgap is analyzed within the mean field Kotliar-Ruckenstein slave boson approach. Impact of enhanced hybridization and magnetic instability of bilayer doped near the Van Hove singularity on the screening of magnetic moment is discussed.
Electron tunneling through a double quantum dot molecule side attached to a quantum wire, in the Kondo regime, is studied. The mean-field finite-U slave-boson formalism is used to obtain the solution of the problem. We found conductance cancelations when the molecular energies of the side attached double quantum-dot cross the Fermi energy. We investigate the many body molecular Kondo states as a function of the parameters of the system.
Thermoelectric transport phenomena in a single-level quantum dot coupled to ferromagnetic leads are considered theoretically in the Kondo regime. The dot is described by the Anderson model with Rashba type spin-orbit interaction. The finite-U mean field slave boson technique is used to describe the transport characteristics, like heat conductance, thermopower, thermoelectric efficiency (figure of merit). The role of quantum interference effects in thermoelectric parameters is also analyzed.
The effect of electron-phonon coupling on transport through a pair of strongly correlated quantum dots embedded in the Aharonov-Bohm ring is considered in the mean field slave boson Kotliar-Ruckenstein approach. It is shown that coupling with phonons opens transport gap in the region of double occupancy. Low-bias conductance and thermopower provide information on electron-phonon coupling strength.
We investigate low-temperature transport characteristics of a side-coupled double quantum dot where only one of the dots is directly connected to the leads. We observe Fano resonances, which arise from interference between discrete levels in one dot and the Kondo effect, or cotunneling in general, in the other dot, playing the role of a continuum. The Kondo resonance is partially suppressed by destructive Fano interference, reflecting novel Fano-Kondo competition. We also present a theoretical calculation based on the tight-binding model with slave boson mean field approximation, which qualita…
We developed a theoretical framework which extends the method of \textit{full counting statistics} (FCS) from conventional single channel Kondo screening schemes to multi-channel Kondo paradigm. The developed idea of FCS has been demonstrated considering an example of two-stage Kondo (2SK) model. We analyzed the charge transferred statistics in the strong-coupling regime of a 2SK model using non-equilibrium Keldysh formulation. A bounded value of Fano factor, $1\leq F\leq 5/3$, confirmed the cross-over regimes of charge transfered statistics in 2SK effect, from Poissonian to super-Poissonian. …
Based on ab-initio calculations we discuss Kondo effect due to Co adatom on graphene zigzag nanoribbon. Co atom located at hollow site behaves as spin S = 1/2 impurity with dxz and dyz orbitals contributing to magnetic moment. Dynamical correlations are analyzed with the use of complementary approximations: mean field slave boson approach, noncrossing approximation and equation of motion method. The impact of interplay between spin and orbital degrees of freedom together with the effect of peculiarities of electronic and magnetic structure of nanoribbon on many-body resonances is examined.
The transport properties of an ac-driving quantum dot in the Kondo regime are studied by the Floquet-Green's function method with slave-boson infinite-$U$ noncrossing approximation. Our results show that the Kondo peak of the local density of states is robust against weak ac gate modulation. Significant suppression of the Kondo peak can be observed when the ac gate field becomes strong. The photon-assisted noise of Kondo resonance as a function of dc voltage does not show singularities which are expected for noninteracting resonant quantum dot. These findings suggest that one may make use of t…
We use the inchworm Quantum Monte Carlo method to investigate the full counting statistics of particle and energy currents in a strongly correlated quantum dot. Our method is used to extract the heat fluctuations and entropy production of a quantum thermoelectric device, as well as cumulants of the particle and energy currents. The energy--particle current cross correlations reveal information on the preparation of the system and the interplay of thermal and electric currents. We furthermore demonstrate the signature of a crossover from Coulomb blockade to Kondo physics in the energy current f…
We systematically investigate electron transport through double quantum dots with particular emphasis on interference induced via multiple paths of electron propagation. By means of the slave-boson mean-field approximation, we calculate the conductance, the local density of states, the transmission probability in the Kondo regime at zero temperature. It is clarified how the Kondo-assisted transport changes its properties when the system is continuously changed among the serial, parallel and T-shaped double dots. The obtained results for the conductance are explained in terms of the Kondo reson…
Strong electron correlations and interference effects are discussed in capacitively coupled side attached and embedded quantum dots. The finite - U mean field slave boson approach is used to study many-body effects. In the linear range the many-body resonances exhibit SU(4) Kondo or Kondo-Fano like character and their properties in the corresponding arms are close to the properties of embedded or T- shape double dot systems respectively. Breaking of the spin symmetry in one of the arms or in both allows for the formation of many-body resonances of SU(3) or SU(2) symmetries in the linear range.
We calculate the conductance through strongly correlated T-shaped molecular or quantum dot systems under the influence of phonons. The system is modelled by the extended Anderson-Holstein Hamiltonian. The finite-U mean-field slave boson approach is used to study many-body effects. Phonons influence both interference and correlations. Depending on the dot unperturbed energy and the strength of electron-phonon interaction the system is occupied by a different number of electrons which effectively interact with each other repulsively or attractively. This leads together with the interference effe…
The out-of-equilibrium transport properties of a double quantum dot system in the Kondo regime are studied theoretically by means of a two-impurity Anderson hamiltonian with interimpurity hopping. The hamiltonian is solved by means of a non-equilibrium generalization of the slave-boson mean-field theory. It is demonstrated that measurements of the differential conductance dI/dV, for the appropriate values of voltages and tunneling couplings, can give a direct observation of the coherent superposition between the many-body Kondo states of each dot. For large voltages and arbitrarily large inter…
We study magnetoconductance of the small bandgap carbon nanotube quantum dots in the presence of spin-orbit coupling in the strong correlations regime. The finite-U mean field slave boson approach is used to study many-body effects. Different degeneracies are restored in magnetic field and Kondo effects of different symmetries arise including SU(3) effects of different types. Full spin-orbital degeneracy might be recovered for zero field and correspondingly SU(4) Kondo effect sets in. We point out on the possibility of the occurrence of electron-hole Kondo effects in slanting magnetic fields, …
We report the theoretical investigation of the orbital Kondo effect in an Aharonov-Bohm interferometer by slave-boson mean field approach. It is found that the present orbital Kondo effect can be tuned geometrically by the external magnetic flux. When the magnetic flux $ϕ=(2n+1)π$, the off-diagonal self-energy vanishes and the orbital Kondo problem can be exactly mapped onto the usual spin Kondo model. For a general $ϕ$, the presence of the off-diagonal orbital wave function interference will modify the height and width of the orbital Kondo peak, but not change the position of the orbital Kond…
Electronic transport through a triple quantum dot system, with only a single dot coupled directly to external leads, is considered theoretically. The model includes Coulomb correlations in the central dot, while such correlations in the two side-coupled dots are omitted. The infinite-U mean-field slave-boson approach is used to obtain basic transport characteristics in the Kondo regime. When tuning position of the side-coupled dots' levels, transition from subradiant to superradiant like mode (and vice versa) has been found in the spectral function, in analogy to the Dicke effect in atomic phy…
Orbital Kondo effect in a system of two single-level quantum dots attached to external electron reservoirs is considered theoretically. The dots are coupled via direct hoping term and Coulomb interaction. The Kondo temperature is evaluated from the scaling approach and slave boson technique. The later method is also used to calculate linear conductance of the system. Nonlinear conductance, in turn, is calculated in terms of the nonequilibrium Green function formalism.
A topological Kondo insulator (TKI) is a strongly-correlated material, where hybridization between the conduction electrons and localized f-electrons gives rise to a crossover from a metallic behavior at high temperatures to a topologically non-trivial insulating state at low temperatures. The existing description of the TKIs is based on a slave-boson mean-field theory, which neglects dynamic fluctuation phenomena. Here, we go beyond the mean-field theory and investigate the role of Kondo fluctuations on the topological surface states. We derive an effective theory of the Dirac surface states …
The current noise in a quantum dot coupled to two leads is investigated in the Kondo regime with and without the influence of magnetic fields by employing a finite-$U$ slave-boson mean field theory to calculate the current-current correlation function at zero temperature. The numerical results show that, depending on the energy level of the QD the Coulomb interactin may reduce or enhance the zero-frequency shot noise power spectrum in comparison with that without Coulomb interaction. But the Fano factor is always reduced significantly due to the Kondo-correlation effect, and the most pronounce…
Strong electron correlations and interference effects are discussed in parallel-coupled single-level and orbitally doubly degenerate quantum dots. The finite-U mean-field slave boson approach is used to study many-body effects. The analysis is carried out in a wide range of parameter space including both atomic-like and molecular-like Kondo regimes and taking into account various perturbations, like interdot tunneling, interdot interaction, mixing of the electrode channels and exchange interaction. We also discuss the influence of singularities of electronic structure and the impact of polariz…
Spin polarized transport through a quantum dot coupled to ferromagnetic electrodes with noncollinear magnetizations is discussed in terms of nonequilibrium Green functions formalism in the finite-U slave boson mean field approximation. The difference of orientations of the magnetizations of electrodes opens off-diagonal spin-orbital transmission and apart from spin currents of longitudinal polarization also spin-flip currents appear. We also study equilibrium pure spin current at zero bias and discuss its dependence on magnetization orientation, spin-orbit coupling strength and gate voltage. I…
We study the Kondo effect in a quantum dot coupled to half-metallic ferromagnetic electrodes in the regime of strong on-dot correlations. Using the equation of motion technique for nonequilibrium Green functions in the slave boson representation we show that the Kondo effect is not completely suppressed for anti-parallel leads magnetization. In the parallel configuration there is no Kondo effect but there is an effect associated with elastic cotunneling which in turn leads to similar behavior of the local (on-dot) density of states (LDOS) as the usual Kondo effect. Namely, the LDOS shows the t…
We investigate the heat current of a strongly interacting quantum dot in the presence of a voltage bias in the Kondo regime. Using the slave- boson mean-field theory, we discuss the behavior of the energy flow and the Joule heating. We find that both contributions to the heat current dis- play interesting symmetry properties under reversal of the applied dc bias. We show that the symmetries arise from the behavior of the dot trans- mission function. Importantly, the transmission probability is a function of both energy and voltage. This allows us to analyze the heat current in the nonlinear re…
We investigate adiabatic pumping through a quantum dot with a single level in the mixed-valence and Kondo regimes using the slave-boson mean field approximation. The pumped current is driven by a gauge potential due to time-dependent tunneling barriers as well as by the modulation of the Friedel phase. The sign of the former contribution depends on the strength of the Coulomb interaction. Under finite magnetic fields, the separation of the spin and charge currents peculiar to the Kondo effect occurs.
We study how finite size effects may appear when a quantum dot in the Kondo Coulomb blockade regime is embedded into a mesoscopic device with finite wires. These finite size effects appear when the size of the mesoscopic device containing the quantum dot is of the order of the size of Kondo cloud and affect all thermodynamic and transport properties of the Kondo quantum dot. We also generalize our results to the experimentally relevant case where the wires contain several transverse modes/channels. Our results are based on perturbation theory, Fermi liquid theory and slave boson mean field the…
We have studied the interplay of an Anderson impurity in Landau quantized graphene, with special emphasis on the influence of the chemical potential. Within the slave-boson mean-field theory, we found reentrant Kondo behaviour by varying the chemical potential or gate voltage. Between Landau levels, the density of states is suppressed, and by changing the graphene's Fermi energy, we cross from metallic to semiconducting regions. Hence, the corresponding Kondo behaviour is also influenced. The f-level spectral function reveals both the presence of Landau levels in the conduction band and the Ko…
In this work,we study the Kondo effect of a quantum dot (QD) connected to leads and to a discrete set of one particle states provided by a quantum box represented by a quantum ring (QR) pierced by a magnetic flux side attached to the QD. The interplay between the bulk Kondo effect and the so called Kondo box regime is studied. In this system the QR energies can be continuously modified by the application of the magnetic field. The crossover between these two regimes is analyzed by changing the connection of the QD to the QR from the weak to the strong coupling regime. In the weak coupling regi…
The Kondo problem, for a quantum dot (QD), subjected to an external bias, is analyzed in the limit of infinite Coulomb repulsion by using a consistent equations of motion method based on a slave-boson Hamiltonian. Utilizing a strict perturbative solution in the leads-dot coupling, T, to T^4 and T^6 orders, we calculate the QD spectral density and conductance, as well as the decoherent rate that drive the systemm from the strong to the weak coupling regime. Our results indicate thet the weak coupling regime is reached for voltages larger than a few units of the Kondo temperature.
We investigate spin-polarized transport phenomena through double quantum dots coupled to ferromagnetic leads in series. By means of the slave-boson mean-field approximation, we calculate the conductance in the Kondo regime for two different configurations of the leads: spin-polarization of two ferromagnetic leads is parallel or anti-parallel. It is found that transport shows some remarkable properties depending on the tunneling strength between two dots. These properties are explained in terms of the Kondo resonances in the local density of states.
An interacting quantum dot side-coupled to a perfect quantum wire is studied. Transport through the quantum wire is investigated by using an exact sum rule and the slave-boson mean field treatment. It is shown that the Kondo effect provides a suppression of the transmission due to the destructive interference of the ballistic channel and the Kondo channel. At finite temperatures, anti-resonance behavior is found as a function of the quantum dot level position, which is interpreted as a crossover from the high temperature Kondo phase to the low temperature charge fluctuation phase.
The Kondo effect in coupled quantum dots is investigated from the viewpoint of transmission spectroscopy using the slave-boson formalism of the Anderson model. The antiferromagnetic spin-spin coupling $J$ between the dots is taken into account. Conductance $G$ through the dots connected in a series is characterized by the competition between the dot-dot tunneling coupling $V_{C}$ and the level broadening $Δ$ in the dots (dot-lead coupling). When $V_{C}/Δ< 1$, the Kondo resonance is formed between each dot and lead, which is replaced by a spin-singlet state in the dots at low gate voltages. The…
We investigate the Aharonov-Bohm (AB) effect for the double quantum dots in the Kondo regime using the slave-boson mean-field approximation. In contrast to the non-interacting case, where the AB oscillation generally has the period of 4$π$ when the two-subring structure is formed via the interdot tunneling $t_c$, we find that the AB oscillation has the period of 2$π$ in the Kondo regime. Such effects appear for the double quantum dots close to the T-shaped geometry even in the charge-fluctuation regime. These results follow from the fact that the Kondo resonance is always fixed to the Fermi le…
Motivated by experiments of scanning tunneling spectroscopy (STS) on self-assembled networks of iron(II)-phtalocyanine (FePc) molecules deposited on a clean Au(111) surface [FePc/Au(111)] and its explanation in terms of the extension of the impurity SU(4) Anderson model to the lattice in the Kondo regime, we study the competition between the Kondo effect and the magneto-orbital interactions occurring in FePc/Au(111). We explore the quantum phases and critical points of the model using a large-$N$ slave-boson method in the mean-field approximation. The SU(4) symmetry in the impurity appears as …
Electron transport through a strongly correlated quantum dot (QD) embedded in an Aharonov-Bohm (AB) ring is investigated with the aid of the finite-U slave-boson mean-field (SBMF) approach extended to nonequilibrium regime. A nonequilibrium steady state (NESS) of the mean-field Hamiltonian is constructed with the aid of the C*-algebraic approach for studying infinitely extended systems. In the linear response regime, the Fano-Kondo resonances and AB oscillations of the conductance obtained from the SBMF approach are in good agreement with those from the numerical renormalization group techniqu…
The generating function for the cumulants of charge current distribution is calculated for two generalised Majorana resonant level models: the Kondo dot at the Toulouse point and the resonant level embedded in a Luttinger liquid with the interaction parameter $g=1/2$. We find that the low--temperature non-equilibrium transport in the Kondo case occurs via tunnelling of physical electrons as well as by coherent transmission of electron pairs. We calculate the third cumulant (`skewness') explicitly and analyse it for different couplings, temperatures, and magnetic fields. For the $g=1/2$ set-up …
The coherent transport through a set of N quantum dots coupled in parallel is considered in the limit of infinite intradot and finite or infinite interdot interactions. The mean field slave boson approach and the equation of motion method are used. For the full spin-orbit degenerate case the low energy behavior is characterized by an SU(2N) symmetry with entangled spin and charge correlations. The magnetic field breaks the spin degeneracy, but for the special choices of gate voltages the degeneracy might be recovered in one spin channel allowing the spin filtering.
We investigate the Fano-Kondo interplay in an Aharonov-Bohm ring with an embedded non-interacting quantum dot and a Coulomb interacting quantum dot. Using a slave-boson mean-field approximation we diagonalize the Hamiltonian via scattering matrix theory, and derive the conductance in the form of a Fano expression, which depends on the mean field parameters. We predict that in the Kondo regime the magnetic field leads to a gapped energy level spectrum due to hybridisation of the non-interacting QD state and the Kondo state, and can quantum-mechanically alter the electron's path preference. We d…
The time dependent full counting statistics of charge transport through an interacting quantum junction is evaluated from its generating function, controllably computed with the inchworm Monte Carlo method. Exact noninteracting results are reproduced; then, we continue to explore the effect of electron--electron interactions on the time-dependent charge cumulants, first-passage time distributions and $n$-electron transfer distributions. We observe a crossover in the noise from Coulomb blockade- to Kondo-dominated physics as the temperature is decreased. In addition, we uncover long-tailed spin…
Electron tunneling through a double quantum dot molecule, in the Kondo regime, under the effect of a magnetic field and an applied voltage, is studied. This system possesses a complex response to the applied fields characterized by a tristable solution for the conductance. The different nature of the solutions are studied in and out thermodynamical equilibrium. It is shown that the interdot coupling and the fields can be used to control the region of multistability. The mean-field slave-boson formalism is used to obtain the solution of the problem.
The linear response transport properties of carbon nanotube quantum dot in the strongly correlated regime are discussed. The finite-U mean field slave boson approach is used to study many-body effects. Magnetic field can rebuilt Kondo correlations, which are destroyed by the effect of spin-orbit interaction or valley mixing. Apart from the field induced revivals of SU(2) Kondo effects of different types: spin, valley or spin-valley, also more exotic phenomena appear, such as SU(3) Kondo effect. Threefold degeneracy occurs due to the effective intervalley exchange induced by short-range part of…
We study nonequilibrium generation of spin-dependent transport through a single-level quantum dot embedded in a ring with the Rashba spin-orbit coupling. We consider nonmagnetic systems, involving no magnetic field nor ferromagnetic leads. It is theoretically predicted that large spin-dependent current occurs as a combined effect of the Rashba spin-orbit interaction, the Kondo effect, and nonequilibrium effect, without using magnetic field or material. The phenomenon is viewed as a new nonequilibrium correlation effect that disappears when either interaction or finite bias is absent. We show h…
The linear and nonlinear transport through a multi-level lateral quantum dot connected to two leads is investigated using a generalized finite-$U$ slave-boson mean field approach. For a two-level quantum dot, our calculation demonstrates a substantial conductance enhancement near the degeneracy point of the spin singlet and triplet states, a non-monotonic temperature-dependence of conductance and a sharp dip and nonzero bias maximum of the differential conductance. These agree well with recent experiment observations. This two-stage Kondo effect in an out-of-equilibrium situation is attributed…
We calculate the spin current distribution function for a Kondo dot in two different regimes. In the exactly solvable Toulouse limit the linear response, zero temperature statistics of the spin transfer is trinomial, such that all the odd moments vanish and the even moments follow a binomial distribution. On the contrary, the corresponding spin-resolved distribution turns out to be binomial. The combined spin and charge statistics is also determined. In particular, we find that in the case of a finite magnetic field or an asymmetric junction the spin and charge measurements become statisticall…
Using the slave boson Kotliar-Ruckenstein approach (SBMFA) for N level Anderson model, we compare fully symmetric SU(N) Kondo resonances occurring for spin and orbital conserving tunneling with many-body resonances for the dot with broken symmetry caused by spin, orbital or full spin-orbital mixing. As a result of interorbital or spin flip processes new interference paths emerge, which manifests in the occurrence of antibonding Dicke like and bonding Kondo like resonances. The analytical expressions for linear conductances and linear temperature thermopower coefficient for arbitrary N are foun…
We calculate the charge transfer probability distribution function $χ(λ)$ for the Kondo dot in the strong coupling limit within the framework of the Nozières--Fermi--liquid theory of the Kondo effect. At zero temperature, the ratio of the moments $C_n$ of the charge distribution to the backscattering current $I_{\rm bs}$ follows a universal law $C_n/2I_{\rm bs}=(-1)^n(1+2^n)/6$. The functional form of $χ(λ)$ is consistent with tunnelling of electrons and, possibly, electron pairs. We then discuss the cross-over behaviour of $χ(λ)$ from weak to strong Coulomb repulsion in the underlying Anderso…
We investigate the linear and nonlinear dc transport through an interacting quantum dot connected to two ferromagnetic electrodes around Kondo regime with spin-flip scattering in the dot. Using a slave-boson mean field approach for the Anderson Hamiltonian having finite on-site Coulomb repulsion, we find that a spin-flip scattering always depresses the Kondo correlation at arbitrary polarization strength in both parallel and antiparallel alignment of the lead magnetization and that it effectively reinforces the tunneling related conductance in the antiparallel configuration. For systems deep i…
The Kondo effect in the system consisting of a magnetic adatom on the graphene is studied. By using the non-equilibrium Green function method with the slave-boson mean field approximation, the local density of state (LDOS) and the conductance are calculated. For a doped graphene, the Kondo phase is present at all time. Surprisingly, two kinds of Kondo regimes are revealed. But for the undoped graphene, the Kondo phase only exists if the adatom's energy level is beyond a critical value. The conductance is similar to the LDOS, thus, the Kondo peak in the LDOS can be observed with the scanning tu…
Electron tunneling through quantum-dots side coupled to a quantum wire, in equilibrium and nonequilibrium Kondo regime, is studied. The mean-field finite-$U$ slave-boson formalism is used to obtain the solution of the problem. We have found that the transmission spectrum shows a structure with two anti-resonances localized at the renormalized energies of the quantum dots. The DOS of the system shows that when the Kondo correlations are dominant there are two Kondo regimes with its own Kondo temperature. The above behavior of the DOS can be explained by quantum interference in the transmission …
We study the Kondo effect in a quantum dot embedded in a mesoscopic ring taking into account intradot spin-flip scattering $R$. Based on the finite-$U$ slave-boson mean-field approach, we find that the Kondo peak in the density of states is split into two peaks by this coherent spin-flip transition, which is responsible for some interesting features of the Kondo-assisted persistent current circulating the ring: (1) strong suppression and crossover to a sine function form with increasing $R$; (2) appearance of a "hump" in the $R$-dependent behavior for odd parity. $R$-induced reverse of the per…
We study a generic topological Kondo insulator system by performing a mean-field theoretic calculation within the frame-work of slave-boson protocol. We assume infinite Hubbard-type interaction among the localized electrons. The difference between the bulk metallic and insulating phases of the insulator is in the sign of nearest neighbor hopping of localized electrons. The hopping amplitude is positive for the metallic and negative for the insulating phase. The surface metallicity together with bulk insulation, however, requires very strong f electron localization. Furthermore, we find that th…
