The CMS Collaboration has released the results of its search for supersymmetry, by applying an alphaT method to 1.1/fb of data at 7 TeV. The null result excludes (at 95% CL) a low-mass region of the Constrained MSSM's parameter space that was previously favored by other experiments. Additionally, the negative result of the XENON100 dark matter search has excluded (at 90% CL) values of the spin-independent scattering cross sections sigma^SI_p as low as 10^-8 pb. We incorporate these improved experimental constraints into a global Bayesian fit of the Constrained MSSM by constructing approximate likelihood functions. In the case of the alphaT limit, we simulate detector efficiency for the CMS alphaT 1.1/fb and validate our method against the official 95% CL contour. We identify the 68% and 95% credible posterior regions of the CMSSM parameters, and also find the best-fit point. We find that the credible regions change considerably once a likelihood from alphaT is included, in particular the narrow light Higgs resonance region becomes excluded, but the focus point/horizontal branch region remains allowed at the 1sigma level. Adding the limit from XENON100 has a weaker additional effect, in part due to large uncertainties in evaluating sigma^SI_p, which we include in a conservative way, although we find that it reduces the posterior probability of the focus point region to the 2sigma level. The new regions of high posterior favor squarks lighter than the gluino and all but one Higgs bosons heavy. The dark matter neutralino mass is found in the range 250 GeV <~ m_Chi1 <~ 343 GeV (at 1sigma) while, as the result of improved limits from the LHC, the favored range of sigma^SI_p is pushed down to values below 10^{-9} pb. We highlight tension between (g-2)_mu and BR(b->sg), which is exacerbated by including the alphaT limit; each constraint favors a different region of the CMSSM's mass parameters.
The implications of the LHC SUSY searches as well as the discovery of a new bosonic state compatible with the lightest Higgs boson will be discussed in the context of constrained and general MSSM scenarios. Exploring the MSSM through the Higgs sector is an alternative and complementary path to direct searches, and tight constraints on the MSSM parameter space can be obtained.
We discuss various phenomenological aspects of supersymmetric models beyond the MSSM. A particular focus is on models which can correctly explain neutrino data and the possiblities of LHC to identify the underlying scenario.
We discuss a few new characteristic features of the loop-induced MSSM Higgs-sector CP violation at the LHC based on two scenarios: (i) CPX and (ii) Trimixing.
The discovery potential for the MSSM with heavy scalars at the LHC in the case of light inos is examined. We discuss the phenomenology of the model and the observables to determine the parameters. We show that for light gauginos, the model parameters can be constrained with a precision of the order of 15%.
Some possibilities to test the Higgs sector of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) at the LHC and future $e^+e^-$ colliders are discussed. This includes precision coupling strength measurements, the search for additional Higgs bosons as well as their decay to supersymmetric particles.
If supersymmetry (SUSY) exists in nature and is a solution to the hierarchy problem then it should be detectable at the TeV energy scale which the large hadron collider (LHC) is now exploring. One of the main goals of the LHC is the discovery or exclusion of the R-parity conserving minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM). So far, the SUSY search results are presented in the context of the constrained MSSM and other specific simplified SUSY models. A model-independent analysis necessarily relies on the trigger-system of the LHC detectors. By using the posterior samples of a 20-parameter MS…
These lectures were presented at the TASI 2012 summer school to a mixture of graduate students in particle theory and cosmology. They serve as an elementary introduction to the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) and discuss the implications of a 125 GeV Higgs boson for this theory. Some familiarity with the Standard Model is assumed.
The cross section prediction for the production of the lightest neutral Higgs boson in association with a high-p_T hadronic jet is presented in the framework of the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM) and compared to the SM case. Prospects for the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC) are discussed.
We compute Gamma(H+ -> t \bar{b}) at one-loop in the MSSM and show how future data at the Tevatron and/or at the LHC could be used to unravel the potential SUSY nature of the charged Higgs.
I study the production of heavy neutral gauge bosons Z' at the LHC in U(1)' models, inspired by Grand Unification Theories, as well as in the Sequential Standard Model, accounting for possible decays into supersymmetric channels. I shall consider the MSSM and present results on branching ratios and event rates with sparticle production at the LHC, taking particular care about final states with charged leptons and missing energy.
We present results for the SM and MSSM Higgs-boson production cross sections at the Tevatron and the LHC. The SM cross sections are a compilation of the state-of-the-art theoretical predictions. The MSSM cross sections are obtained from the SM ones by means of an effective coupling approximation, as implemented in FeynHiggs. Numerical results have been obtained in four benchmark scenarios for two values of tan beta, tan beta = 5, 40.
The theoretical status of Higgs boson production at the LHC within the minimal supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model is reviewed. The focus will be on the evaluation of higher-order corrections to the production cross sections and their phenomenological implications.
We review the prospects for Central Exclusive Production (CEP) of BSM Higgs bosons at the LHC using forward proton detectors proposed to be installed at 220 m and 420 m from the ATLAS and/ or CMS. Results are presented for MSSM in standard benchmark scenarios and in scenarios compatible with the Cold Dark Matter relic abundance and other precision measurements. Following results of the LHC Higgs boson searches, we investigate a hypothesis that candidates found at a mass of 125 GeV are compatible with light CP-even MSSM Higgs bosons. We show that CEP can give a valuable information about spin-p…
The prospects for central exclusive diffractive (CED) production of MSSM Higgs bosons at the LHC are reviewed. It is shown that the CED channels, making use of forward proton detectors at the LHC installed at 220 m and 420 m distance around ATLAS and / or CMS, can provide important information on the Higgs sector of the MSSM. In particular, CED production of the neutral CP-even Higgs bosons h and H and their decays into bottom quarks has the potential to probe interesting regions of the M_A--tan_beta parameter plane of the MSSM and may give access to the bottom Yukawa couplings of the Higgs bo…
The interplay of prospective experimental information from both the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and the Linear Collider (LC) in the investigation of the MSSM Higgs sector is analyzed in the SPS~1a and SPS 1b benchmark scenarios. Combining LHC information on the heavy Higgs states of the MSSM with precise measurements of the mass and branching ratios of the lightest CP-even Higgs boson at the LC provides a sensitive consistency test of the MSSM. This allows to set bounds on the trilinear coupling A_t. In a scenario where LHC and LC only detect one light Higgs boson, the prospects for an indirec…
We review that the heavy CP-even MSSM Higgs boson is still a viable candidate to explain the Higgs signal at 125 GeV. This is possible in a highly constrained parameter region, that will be probed by LHC searches for the CP-odd Higgs boson and the charged Higgs boson in the near future. We briefly discuss the new benchmark scenarios that can be employed to maximize the sensitivity of the experimental analysis to this interpretation.
We examine the case of neutralino dark matter in the focus point region of the MSSM, in which the scalar sparticles are too heavy to be produced at the LHC. Whilst it has been previously asserted that the LHC alone would fail to constrain the properties of the lightest neutralino for such a scenario, we find that one can obtain good predictions of astrophysical quantities such as the relic density, annihilation cross-section and direct search cross-sections by using the shape of the dilepton invariant mass spectrum to constrain neutralino mixing. We demonstrate our technique using a Bayesian a…
In various models of supersymmetry (SUSY), the lightest superparticle in the minimal SUSY standard model sector, which we call MSSM-LSP, becomes unstable. Then, we may observe the decay of the MSSM-LSP in the detector at the LHC experiment. We show that the discovery of such a decay process (and the determination of the lifetime of the MSSM-LSP) may be possible at the LHC even if the decay length of the MSSM-LSP is much longer than the size of the detector; sizable number of the MSSM-LSPs decay inside the detector if the lifetime is shorter than 0.01-1 millisec. We also discuss the implication…
We discuss the scenario of light neutralino dark matter in the minimal supersymmetric standard model, which is motivated by the results of some of the direct detection experiments --- DAMA, CoGENT, and CRESST. We update our previous analysis with the latest results of the LHC. We show that new LHC constraints disfavour the parameter region that can reproduce the results of DAMA and CoGENT.
Once supersymmetry is found at the LHC, the question arises what are the fundamental parameters of the Lagrangian. The answer to this question should thereby not be biased by assumptions on high-scale models. SFitter is a tool designed for this task. Taking LHC (and possibly ILC) data as input it scans the TeV-scale MSSM parameter space using its new weighted Markov chain technique. Using this scan it determines a list of best-fitting parameter points. Additionally a log-likelihood map is calculated, which can be reduced to lower-dimensional Frequentist's profile likelihoods or Bayesian probab…
The Higgs boson search has shifted from LEP2 to the Tevatron and will subsequently move to the LHC. The current limits from the Tevatron and the prospective sensitivities at the LHC are often interpreted in specific MSSM scenarios. For heavy Higgs boson production and subsequent decay into b \bar b or tau^+ tau^-, the present Tevatron data allow to set limits in the M_A-tan_beta plane for small M_A and large tan_beta values. Similar channels have been explored for the LHC, where the discovery reach extends to higher values of M_A and smaller tan_beta. Searches for MSSM charged Higgs bosons, pr…
In this paper we discuss the production of a heavy scalar MSSM Higgs boson H and its subsequent decays into pairs of electroweak gauge bosons WW and ZZ. We perform a scan over the relevant MSSM parameters, using constraints from direct Higgs searches and several low-energy observables. We then compare the possible size of the pp -> H -> WW,ZZ cross sections with corresponding Standard Model cross sections. We also include the full MSSM vertex corrections to the H -> WW,ZZ decay and combine them with the Higgs propagator corrections, paying special attention to the IR-divergent contributions. W…
We perform a forecast of the CMSSM for the LHC based in an improved Bayesian analysis taking into account the present theoretical and experimental wisdom about the model. In this way we obtain a map of the preferred regions of the CMSSM parameter space and show that fine-tuning penalization arises from the Bayesian analysis itself when the experimental value of Mz is considered. The results are remarkable stable when using different priors
We report on a calculation of the effects of supersymmetry on the cross-section for top-antitop production at LHC. A numerical study is carried out for the ten benchmarks of the Snowmass accord. It is found that the higher order effects involving supersymmetric particles in internal loops can be as high as 6%, both for the cross-section and the (parity even) helicity asymmetry, for one particular benchmark. For other benchmarks smaller but nonetheless observable corrections are found.
The possibility is discussed to observe the sparticle decay modes of the heavy MSSM Higgs bosons at the Large Hadron Collider. We focus on the heavy neutral Higgses, and argue that their decay into neutralinos may access an interesting region in the MSSM parameter space up to masses around 450 GeV for low and intermediate values of tan beta. If neutralinos and sleptons are light enough, this channel - leading to a four lepton final state topology - can complement the reach of the SM channels.
Production of the lightest MSSM Higgs boson h is studied at the LHC. Isorate contours for the h -> gamma gamma and h -> tau+tau- decay channels are shown in the m_A,tan(beta) parameter space. Effects of the SUSY parameters, in particular the stop mixing and stop quark mass, are investigated. Search strategies at the LHC are discussed and the discovery potential is calculated for the CMS experiment. The MSSM parameter space for m_A > 150-200 GeV is expected to be covered with at least one decay channel with an integrated luminosity of 60 fb^{-1}. A light stop quark with large stop mixing can af…
During the last few years the Tevatron has improved the bounds on rare $B$-meson decays into two leptons. Sensitivity to this decay is also one of the benchmark goals for LHCb performance. We compute the complete 1-loop MSSM contribution to $B^0_{s,d}\to μ^+\^-mu$ and study the predictions for arbitrary flavour mixing parameters. We discuss the possibility of both enhancing and suppressing the branching ratios relative to their SM expectations. We find that there are ``cancellation regions'' in parameter space where the branching ratio is suppressed well below the SM expectation, making it eff…
We investigate the prospects for Central Exclusive Production (CEP) of MSSM Higgs bosons at the LHC using forward proton detectors proposed to be installed at 220 m and 420 m distance around ATLAS and / or CMS. We summarize the situation after the first and very successful data taking period of the LHC. The discovery of a Higgs boson and results from searches for additional MSSM Higgs bosons from both the ATLAS and CMS experiments, based on data samples each corresponding to about 25 fb-1, have recently led to a proposal of new low-energy MSSM benchmark scenarios. The CEP signal cross section …
This paper discusses the possibility to observe a signal from MSSM Higgs boson decays into final states containing four b-jets. Two specific channels are considered: bbH and bbA production with H,A -->bb, for large values of mH, mA and tan(beta), and H-->hh-->bbbb decays for 150 GeV < mH < 2 and for low values of tan(beta). Both channels are difficult to extract because of the very large reducible and irreducible QCD backgrounds. Even with an ultimate integrated luminosity, expected per LHC experiment, of 3*10**5 pb**-1, the region of the MSSM parameter space covered by these channels does not…
We show that the use of forward proton detectors at the LHC installed at 220 m and 420 m distance around ATLAS and / or CMS can provide important information on the Higgs sector of the MSSM. We analyse central exclusive production of the neutral CP-even Higgs bosons h and H and their decays into bottom quarks, tau leptons and W bosons in different MSSM benchmark scenarios. Using plausible estimates for the achievable experimental efficiencies and the relevant background processes, we find that the prospective sensitivity of the diffractive Higgs production will allow to probe interesting regio…
Using a Markov chain Monte Carlo approach, we find the allowed parameter space of a MSSM model with seven free parameters. In this model universality conditions at the GUT scale are imposed on the gaugino sector. We require in particular that the relic density of dark matter saturates the value extracted from cosmological measurements assuming a standard cosmological scenario. We characterize the parameter space of the model that satisfies experimental constraints and illustrate the complementarity of the LHC searches, B-physics observables and direct dark matter searches for further probing t…
We present the first complete calculation of the one-loop electroweak effect in the process of semi-inclusive bottom-Higgs production at LHC in the MSSM. The size of the electroweak contribution depends on the choice of the final produced neutral Higgs boson, and can be relevant, in some range of the input parameters. A comparison of the one-loop results obtained in two different renormalization schemes is also performed, showing a very good NLO scheme independence. We further comment on two possible, simpler, approximations of the full NLO result, and on their reliabilty.
In the event that R-Parity conserving supersymmetry (SUSY) is discovered at the LHC, a key issue which will need to be addressed will be the consistency of that signal with astrophysical and non-accelerator constraints on SUSY Dark Matter. This issue is studied for the SPA benchmark model based on measurements of end-points and thresholds in the invariant mass spectra of various combinations of leptons and jets. These measurements are used to constrain the soft SUSY breaking parameters at the electroweak scale in a general MSSM model. Based on these constraints, we assess the accuracy with whi…
We consider non-canonical embeddings of the MSSM in high-dimensional orbifold GUTs based on the gauge symmetry SU(N), N=5,6,7,8. The hypercharge normalization factor k_Y can either have unique non-canonical values, such as 23/21 in a six-dimensional SU(7) model, or may lie in a (continuous) interval. Gauge coupling unification and gauge-Yukawa unification can be realized in these models by introducing new particles with masses in the TeV range which may be found at the LHC. In one such example there exist color singlet fractionally charged states.
Recent results reported by the ATLAS and CMS experiments on the search for a SM-like Higgs boson both show an excess for a Higgs mass near 125 GeV, which is mainly driven by the γγ and ZZ^* decay channels, but also receives some support from channels with a lower mass resolution. We discuss the implications of this possible signal within the context of the minimal supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM), taking into account previous limits from Higgs searches at LEP, the Tevatron and the LHC. The consequences for the remaining MSSM parameter space are investigated. Under the assumption of a Higgs…
We evaluate the $t\bar{c}$ and $t\bar{u}$ productions at the LHC within the general unconstrained MSSM framework. We find that these single top quark productions induced by SUSY-QCD FCNC couplings have remarkable cross sections for favorable parameter values allowed by current low energy data, which can be as large as a few pb. Once large rates of the $t\bar{c}$ and $t\bar{u}$ productions are detected at the LHC, they may be induced by SUSY FCNC couplings. We show that the precise measurement of single top quark production cross sections at the LHC is a powerful probe for the details of the SU…
We present the analytical and numerical investigations of top-charm associated production at the LHC in the framework of the R-parity violating MSSM. The numerical analysis of their production rates is carried out in the mSUGRA scenario with some typical parameter sets. The results show that the cross sections of associated $t\bar{c}(\bar{t}c)$ production via gluon-gluon fusion can reach 5% of that via $d\bar{d}$ annihilation. The total cross section will reach the order of $10 \sim 10^2 ~fb$ and the cross sections are strongly related to the R-parity violating parameters.
We investigate the expectations for the light Higgs signal in the MSSM in different search channels at the LHC. After taking into account dark matter and flavor constraints in the MSSM with eleven free parameters, we show that the light Higgs signal in the $gammaγ$ channel is expected to be at most at the level of the SM Higgs, while the $h\rightarrow b\bar{b}$ from W fusion and/or the $h \rightarrowτ\barτ$ can be enhanced. For the main discovery mode, we show that a strong suppression of the signal occurs in two different cases: low $M_A$ or large invisible width. A more modest suppression is…
The neutral Higgs pair production at the LHC is studied in the MSSM, the large extra dimensional (ADD) model and the Randall-Sundrum (RS) model, where the total cross section can be significantly enhanced compared to that in the SM. The $p_{_T}$, invariant mass and rapidity distributions of each model have been shown to be distinctive: The ADD model raises the $p_T$ and invariant mass distributions at high scales of $p_T$ and invariant mass; in the RS model resonant peaks appear after the SM contribution dies away; the SM and the MSSM distributions drop rapidly at those high scales; in the ADD…
The search for MSSM Higgs bosons will be an important goal at the LHC. In order to analyze the search reach of the CMS experiment for the heavy neutral MSSM Higgs bosons, we combine the latest results for the CMS experimental sensitivities based on full simulation studies with state-of-the-art theoretical predictions of MSSM Higgs-boson properties. The experimental analyses are done assuming an integrated luminosity of 30 or 60 fb^-1. The results are interpreted as 5$ \si$ discovery contours in MSSM M_A-tan_beta benchmark scenarios. Special emphasis is put on the variation of the Higgs mixing …
We consider some specific inverse problem or "bottom-up" reconstruction strategies at the LHC for both general and constrained MSSM parameters, starting from a plausibly limited set of sparticle identification and mass measurements, using mainly gluino/squark cascade decays, plus eventually the lightest Higgs boson mass. For the three naturally separated sectors of: gaugino/Higgsino, squark/slepton, and Higgs parameters, we examine different step-by-step algorithms based on rather simple, entirely analytical, inverted relations between masses and basic MSSM parameters. This includes also reaso…
We show that the interplay between the LHC and the e^+ e^- International Linear Collider (ILC) with sqrt{s}=500 GeV might be crucial for the discrimination between the minimal and next-to-minimal supersymmetric standard model. We present an NMSSM scenario that cannot be distinguished from the MSSM by cross sections and mass measurements if only the light neutralinos and the lightest chargino are kinematically accessible, even if one of the neutralinos has a significant singlino component. Mass predictions for the heavier neutralinos from the ILC analysis and their observation at the LHC lead t…
Possibility of observing associated production of charged Higgs and W boson in the framework of MSSM at LHC is studied. Both leptonic and hadronic decays of W boson are studied while the charged Higgs boson is considered to decay to a $τ$ lepton and a neutrino. Therefore two search categories are defined based on the leptonic and hadronic final states, i.e. $\ell τ+E^{miss}_{T}$ and $jj τ+E^{miss}_{T}$ where $\ell=e$ or $μ$ and $j$ is a light jet from $W$ decay. The discovery chance of the two categories is evaluated at an integrated luminosity of 300 \invfb at LHC. It is shown that both lepto…
In this talk we will discuss how inflation can be embedded within a minimal extension of the Standard Model where the inflaton carries the Standard Model charges. There is no need of an ad-hoc scalar field to be introduced in order to explain the temperature anisotropy of the cosmic microwave background radiation, all the ingredients are present within a minimal supersymmetric Standard Model. For the first time inflaton properties can be directly linked to the particle phenomenology, dark matter, and the baryons of the Standard Model.
In the context of the Minimal Supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model, we discuss the impact of the decays of the neutral Higgs bosons into supersymmetric particles, charginos/neutralinos and sfermions. We show that these decay modes could be dominant, when they are kinematically accessible, thus strongly suppressing the branching ratios for the decay channels which are used to detect the Higgs bosons at hadron colliders. These SUSY decay modes should therefore not be overlooked in the search for the Higgs particles at the LHC.
One Higgs was found. Are there more? In this work we discuss simple extension of the scalar sector of the Standard Model (SM) used as benchmark models by ATLAS and CMS in the searches for new scalars at the LHC. We discuss how much the discovered 125 GeV Higgs at the LHC resembles the SM Higgs and how will our understanding of the Higgs nature improve at future electron-positron colliders. Models with extended Higgs sectors provide very interesting scenarios, from the existence of charged Higgs bosons to CP-violating scalars that can be probed by the experimental collaborations at the LHC. Com…
We study neutral and charged Higgs boson production in association with stop and sbottom squarks at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), within the so-called M-SUGRA scenario, i.e., the Supergravity (SUGRA) inspired Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM). For low values of \tanβonly the cases \tilde{t}_1\tilde{t}_1^* H, \tilde{t}_1\tilde{t}_1^* h and \tilde{t}_1\tilde{t}_2^* h give detectable rates while for \tanβgreater than 30 a variety of signals involving all Higgs bosons can be accessed, at high collider luminosity. The dependence of these reactions on the M-SUGRA parameters might furth…
We investigate the associated production of charged Higgs bosons (H^\pm) and W bosons at the CERN Large Hadron Collider, using the leptonic decay H^+ -> tau^+ nu_tau and hadronic W decay, within different scenarios of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) with both real and complex parameters. Performing a parton level study we show how the irreducible Standard Model background from W + 2 jets can be controlled by applying appropriate cuts. In the standard m_h^max scenario we find a viable signal for large tan beta and intermediate H^\pm masses (~ m_t). In MSSM scenarios with large …
We study the properties of the Higgs boson sector in the MSSM, putting special emphasis on radiative effects which can affect the discovery potential of the LHC, Tevatron and/or LEP colliders. We concentrate on the V b b-bar channel, with V=Z or W, and on the channels with diphoton final states, which are the dominant ones for the search for a light Standard Model Higgs boson at LEP/Tevatron and LHC, respectively. By analyzing the regions of parameter space for which the searches in at least one of these colliders can be particularly difficult, we demonstrate the complementarity of these three…
We study the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) with large gluino mass m_{\tilde{g}} >> 1 TeV. In particular, we discuss the LHC supersymmetry discovery signatures with n leptons + jets + E^{miss}_T, n >= 0 for the MSSM with large gluino mass. We show that for some relations among squark and neutralino masses leptonic signatures with n leptons + jets + E^{miss}_T, n >= 1 do not allow to discover supersymmetry at the LHC and the only supersymmetry discovery signature remains the signature with no leptons + jets + E^{miss}_T. Moreover, for LSP mass close to squark masses the LHC discov…
In the light dark matter (DM) scenario of the MSSM, the DM relic density puts non-trivial requirements on the spectrum of supersymmetric particles. As a result, the direct search for multi-lepton signals at the LHC has great impact on the scenario. In this work, we concentrate on the searches for sleptons and electroweak-inos at the LHC, and investigate the constraints on the light DM scenario from the 8 TeV LHC data as well as the capability of the 14 TeV LHC to test the scenario. We first get the samples of the scenario by scanning the vast parameter space of the MSSM and considering some ea…
We study CP violation in the two-body decay of a scalar tau into a neutralino and a tau, which should be probed at the LHC and ILC. From the normal tau polarization, a CP asymmetry is defined which is sensitive to the CP phases of the trilinear scalar coupling parameter $A_τ$, the gaugino mass parameter $M_1$, and the higgsino mass parameter $μ$ in the stau-neutralino sector of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model. Asymmetries of more than 70% are obtained in scenarios with strong stau mixing. As a result, detectable CP asymmetries in stau decays at the LHC are found, motivating further d…
We study the discovery reach of the gluino ($\widetilde{g}$) and the lightest stop squark ($\widetilde{t}_1$) with baryonic R-parity violation (UDD type) in the context of Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) at the 14 TeV run of the LHC. We consider the gluino pair production process followed by its decay to a top quark and a real or virtual stop squark. The top quark produced from the decay of the gluino can have sufficient transverse momentum to appear as a single fat jet. We apply the jet substructure technique to tag such a hadronically decaying boosted top quark and find that glu…
It is well known that finding and measuring the masses of particles in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) may be possible using invariant mass distributions in exclusive channels containing n_j jets and n_l leptons. We perform this analysis for the (n_j, n_l) = (0,4) decay of heavy Higgs bosons to neutralinos, pp \to H/A \to χ_i χ_j (i,j =2,3,4), which then decay to four leptons and two lightest neutralinos χ_1 via on-shell sleptons. When i=j and the sleptons are degenerate, our Monte Carlo study shows that the LHC will be able to measure the Hi…
A Higgs-like particle with a mass of about 126 GeV has been discovered at the LHC. Within the experimental uncertainties, the measured properties of this new state are compatible with those of the Higgs boson in the Standard Model (SM). While not statistically significant at present, the results show some interesting patterns of deviations from the SM predictions, in particular a higher rate in the γγ decay mode observed by ATLAS and CMS, and a somewhat smaller rate in the ττ mode. The LHC discovery is also compatible with the predictions of the Higgs sector of the Minimal Supersymmetric Stand…
We perform for the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) a detailed study of charged Higgs boson production via the top-bottom quark associated mode followed by decays into a chargino and a neutralino, with masses and couplings as given by the general Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM). We focus our attention on the region of parameter space where the charged Higgs is heavier than the top quark, with intermediate values of tan beta. In this region, the identification of charged Higgs bosons via decays into Standard Model (SM) particles has proven to be ineffective. Modelling the CMS detector, …
During the last few years the Tevatron has dramatically improved the bounds on rare B-meson decays into two leptons. In the case of B_s --> mu+ mu-, the current bound is only ten times greater than the Standard Model expectation. Sensitivity to this decay is one of the benchmark goals for LHCb performance and physics. The Higgs penguin dominates this rate in the region of large tan(beta) of the MSSM. This is not necessarily the case in the region of low tan(beta), since box and Z-penguin diagrams may contribute at a comparable rate. In this article, we compute the complete one-loop MSSM contri…
We study extensions of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) with new degrees of freedom that couple sizably to the MSSM Higgs sector and lie in the TeV range. After integrating out the physics at the TeV scale, the resulting Higgs spectrum can significantly differ from typical supersymmetric scenarios, thereby providing a window Beyond the MSSM (BMSSM). Taking into account current LEP and Tevatron constraints, we perform an in-depth analysis of the Higgs collider phenomenology and explore distinctive characteristics of our scenario with respect to both the Standard Model and the MS…
We re-assess the exclusion limits on the parameters describing the supersymmetric (SUSY) electroweak sector of the MSSM obtained from the search for direct chargino-neutralino production at the LHC. We start from published limits obtained in simplified models, where for the case of heavy sleptons the relevant branching ratio, BR(neu2->neu1 Z), is set to one. We show how the decay mode neu2->neu1 h, which cannot be neglected in any realistic model once kinematically allowed, substantially reduces the excluded parameter region. We analyze the dependence of the excluded regions on the phase of th…
