We compute generalized absorption and extinction cross-sections of an optical dipole nanoantenna in a structured environment. The expressions explicitly show the influence of radiation reaction and the local density of states on the intrinsic absorption properties of the antenna. Engineering the environment could allow to modify the overall absorption as well as the frequency and the linewidth of a resonant antenna. Conversely, a dipole antenna can be used to probe the photonic environment, in a similar way as a quantum emitter.
Dynamical evolution and electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) is investigated here in a three-level $λ$-type atomic system including near-dipole-dipole interaction among atoms. The system is driven by the probe and coupling fields. Exact numerical solutions under steady-state condition are given for the density operator equation to get information about population in various levels and the linear susceptibility of probe-transition. Also, obtained are the closed form expressions for linear and third order non-linear susceptibilities for the probe transition under perturbation approxima…
All-dielectric nanoantennas are a promising alternative to plasmonic optical antennas for engineering light emission because of their low-loss nature in the optical spectrum. Nevertheless, it is still challenging to manipulate directional light emission with subwavelength all-dielectric nanoantennas. Here, we propose and numerically demonstrate that a hollow silicon nanodisk can serve as a versatile antenna for directing and enhancing the emission from either an electric or magnetic dipole emitter. When primarily coupled to both electric and magnetic dipole modes of a nanoantenna, broadband ne…
In this tutorial, we discuss the radiation from a Hertzian dipole into uniform isotropic lossy media of infinite extent. If the medium is lossless, the radiated power propagates to infinity, and the apparent dissipation is measured by the radiation resistance of the dipole. If the medium is lossy, the power exponentially decays, and the physical meaning of radiation resistance needs clarification. Here, we present explicit calculations of the power absorbed in the infinite lossy host space and discuss the limit of zero losses. We show that the input impedance of dipole antennas contains a radi…
We consider theoretically magnetic dipole mechanism of the IR-light absorption at intersubband transitions in wide-gap quantum wells (QW). In contrast to the electric dipole resonance, discussed mechanism manifests in the interaction with the s-polarized component of electromagnetic radiation. We demonstrated that a) the frequencies of magnetic and electric dipole intersubband transitions in 2D layer are equal in the framework of one-particle approximation; b) collective plasma effects should lead to a significant frequency shift between the magnetic and electric dipole resonances in typical Q…
The present work deals with a theoretical research on the emission and radiation properties of a dipole emitter source close to a dimer graphene plasmonic antenna. Modification of the radiation and the quantum efficiencies resulting from varying the position of the emitter and the orientation of its dipole moment are calculated by using a rigorous electromagnetic method based on Green's second identity. Large enhancements in the emission and the radiation of the emitter occur due to the coupling with the antenna surface plasmons in the spectral region from 4THz to 15THz. Our results show that …

We theoretically investigate the role of complex dipole phase in the attosecond probing of charge migration. The iodobromoacetylene ion (ICCBr$^+$) is considered as an example, in which one can probe charge migration by accessing both the iodine and bromine ends of the molecule with different spectral windows of an extreme-ultraviolet (XUV) pulse. The analytical expression for transient absorption shows that the site-specific information of charge migration is encoded in the complex phase of cross dipole products for XUV transitions between the I-$4d$ and Br-$3d$ spectral windows. Ab-initio qu…
Conventional plasmonic nanoantennas enable scattering and absorption bands at the same wavelength region, making their utilization to full potential impossible for both features simultaneously. In this regard, hyperbolic meta-antennas (HMA) offer independent, tunable and separate scattering and absorption resonance bands at different spectral ranges. Here, we take advantage of these separated spectral bands in HMA to enhance and modify the hot electron-based phenomena. On the one hand, we observed the photoexcited emission of particle plasmons by hot carriers; on the other, we utilized ultrafa…
Electrically small dielectric antennas are of great interest for modern technologies, since they can significantly reduce the physical size of electronic devices for processing and transmitting information. We investigate the influence of the resonance conditions of an electrically small dielectric spherical antenna with a high refractive index on its directivity and analyze the dependence of these resonances on the effectively excited modes of the dielectric sphere.
Enhancing the light-matter interaction in two-dimensional (2D) materials with high-$Q$ resonances in photonic structures has boosted the development of optical and photonic devices. Herein, we intend to build a bridge between the radiation engineering and the bound states in the continuum (BIC), and present a general method to control light absorption at critical coupling through the quasi-BIC resonance. In a single-mode two-port system composed of graphene coupled with silicon nanodisk metasurfaces, the maximum absorption of 0.5 can be achieved when the radiation rate of the magnetic dipole r…
We present a brief overview of the transport of quantum light across a one-dimensional waveguide which is integrated with a periodic string of quantum-scale dipoles. We demonstrate a scheme to implement transparency by suitably tuning the atomic frequencies without applying a coupling field and bring out the pronounced non-reciprocity of this optical device. The fiber-mediated interaction between integrated dipoles allows one to achieve both dispersive and dissipative couplings, level repulsion and attraction, and enhanced sensing capabilities. All these ideas can be translated to a wide varie…
The unique gate-voltage dependent optical properties of graphene make it a promising electrically-tunable plasmonic material. In this work, we proposed in-situ control of the polarization of nanoantennas by combining plasmonic structures with an electrostatically tunable graphene monolayer. The tunable polarizer is designed based on an asymmetric cross nanoantenna comprising two orthogonal metallic dipoles sharing the same feed gap. Graphene monolayer is deposited on a Si/SiO2 substrate, and inserted beneath the nanoantenna. Our modelling demonstrates that as the chemical potential is incremen…
