We consider a mixture of two species of spin-1 atoms with both interspecies and intraspecies spin exchanges in a weak magnetic field. Under the usual single mode approximation, it can be reduced to a model of coupled giant spins. We find most of its ground states. This is a complicated problem of energy minimization, with three quantum variables under constraints, i.e. the total spin of each species and the total spin of the whole mixture, as well as four parameters, including intraspecies and interspecies spin coupling strengths and the magnetic field. The quantum phase diagram is very rich. Compared with the case without a magnetic field, the ground states are modified by a magnetic field, which also modifies the ground state boundaries or introduces new crossover regimes on the phase diagram. Without interspecies spin coupling, the quantum phase transitions existing in absence of a magnetic field disappear when a magnetic field is applied, which leads to crossover regimes in the phase diagram. Under ferromagnetic interspecies spin coupling, the ground states remain disentangled no matter whether there is a magnetic field. For antiferromagnetic interspecies spin coupling, a magnetic field entangles the ground states in some parameter regimes. When the intraspecies spin couplings are both ferromagnetic, the quantum phase transition between antiferromagnetic and zero interspecies spin couplings survives the magnetic field. When the intraspecies spin couplings are both antiferromagnetic, a magnetic field induces new quantum phase transitions between antiferromagnetic and zero interspecies spin couplings.
We find nearly all the exact ground states of a mixture of two species of spin-1 atoms with both interspecies and intraspecies spin exchanges in absence of a magnetic field. The quantum phase diagram in the three-dimensional parameter space and its two-dimensional cross sections are described. The boundaries where the ground states are either continuous or discontinuous are determined, with the latter identified as where quantum phase transitions take place. The two species are always disentangled if the interspecies spin coupling is ferromagnetic or zero. Quantum phase transitions occur when …
We consider a mixture of two species of spin-1 atoms with interspecies spin exchange, which may cooperate or compete with the intraspecies spin exchanges and thus dramatically affect the ground state. It represents a new class of bosonic gases differing from single-species spinor gases. We determine the exact ground states in several parameter regimes, and study the composite structures by using the generating function method generalized here to be applicable to a mixture of two species of spinor gases. The most interesting phase is the so-called entangled Bose-Einstein condensation (BEC), whi…
We study harmonically trapped two-species Bose-Einstein condensates within the Gross-Pitaevskii formalism. By invoking the Thomas-Fermi approximation, we derive an analytical solution for the miscible ground state in a particular region of the system's parameter space. This solution furnishes a simple formula for determining the relative strength of the interspecies interaction from a measurement of the density distribution of only one of the two species. Accompanying numerical simulations confirm its accuracy for sufficiently large numbers of condensed particles. The introduced formula provid…
The dynamics of impurity atoms introduced into bosonic gases in an optical lattice have generated a lot of recent interest, both in theory and experiment. We investigate to what extent measurements on either the impurity species or the majority species in these systems are affected by their interspecies entanglement. This arises naturally in the dynamics and plays an important role when we measure only one species. We explore the corresponding effects in strongly interacting regimes, using a combination of few-particle analytical calculations and Density Matrix Renormalisation group methods in…
We develop a low energy effective field theory of a mixture of two species of pseudospin-1/2 atoms with interspecies spin-exchange, in addition to density-density interaction. This approach is beyond the single orbital-mode approximation. In a wide parameter regime, it indicates the existence of the four elementary excitations, especially a gapped mode due to interspecies spin-exchange. On the other hand, the spectrum of the effective spin Hamiltonian yielded by the single mode approximation can be obtained by quantizing the homogeneous excitation, which is spin excitation and is the long-wave…
We consider the effective spin Hamiltonian describing a mixture of two species of pseudo-spin-1/2 Bose gases with interspecies spin exchange. First we analyze the stability of the fixed points of the corresponding classical dynamics, of which the signature is found in quantum dynamics with a disentangled initial state. Focusing on the case without an external potential, we find all the ground states by taking into account quantum fluctuations around the classical ground state in each parameter regime. The nature of entanglement and its relation with classical bifurcation is investigated. When …
We have realized a dual-species Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC) of $^{23}$Na and $^{87}$Rb atoms and observed their immiscibility. Because of the favorable background intra- and inter-species scattering lengths, stable condensates can be obtained via efficient evaporative cooling and sympathetic cooling without the need for fine tuning of the interactions. Our system thus provides a clean platform for studying inter-species interactions driven effects in superfluid mixtures. With a Feshbach resonance, we have successfully created double BECs with largely tunable inter-species interactions and s…
We report on the production of a $^{41}$K-$^{87}$Rb dual-species Bose-Einstein condensate with tunable interspecies interaction and we study the mixture in the attractive regime, i.e. for negative values of the interspecies scattering length $a_{12}$. The binary condensate is prepared in the ground state and confined in a pure optical trap. We exploit Feshbach resonances for tuning the value of $a_{12}$. After compensating the gravitational sag between the two species with a magnetic field gradient, we drive the mixture into the attractive regime. We let the system to evolve both in free space…
We study the dynamical properties of bright-bright solitons in two species Bose-Einstein condensates with the repulsive interspecies interactions under the external harmonic potentials by using a variational approach combined with numerical simulation. It is found that the interactions between bright-bright solitons vary from repulsive to attractive interactions with the increasing of their separating distances. And the bright-bright solitons can be localized at equilibrium positions, different from the periodic oscillation of bright soliton in the single species condensates. Especially, a thr…
We consider the ground state of a mixture of two pseudospin-$\1/2$ Bose gases with interspecies spin exchange in a trapping potential. In the mean field approach, the ground state can be described in terms of four wave functions governed by a set of coupled Gross-Pitaevskii-like (GP-like) equations, which differ from the usual GP equations in the existence of an interference term due to spin-exchange coupling between the two species. Using these GP-like equations, we calculate such ground state properties as chemical potentials, density profiles and spin density profiles, which are directly ob…
A model of two Calogero-Sutherland Bose gases A and B with strong odd-wave AB attractions induced by a p-wave AB Feshbach resonance is studied. The ground state wave function is found analytically by a Bose-Bose duality mapping, which permits one to accurately determine static physical properties by a Monte Carlo method. The condensation of particles or particle pairs (molecules) is tested by analyzing the presence of the off-diagonal long-range order in one- or two-body density matrices. The p-wave symmetry of AB interaction makes possible quasi-condensation of type A particles at the Fermi m…
We develop a field integral formalism to study spin-orbit-coupled (SOC) Bose gases with arbitrary interspecies interaction. We identify various features arising from the interplay of SOC and interspecies interaction, including a roton minimum in the excitation spectrum and dual effects of SOC on ground-state energies depending on interspecies interactions. Counterintuitively, we find that at low interspecies interaction the SOC stabilizes the system by suppressing the quantum depletion. We show that the static structure factor is immune to the SOC in the phase space where time-reversal symmetr…
The preparation of a quantum degenerate gas of heteronuclear molecules has been an outstanding challenge. We use path integral Quantum Monte Carlo simulations to understand the role of interactions and finite temperature effects in the protocol currently employed to adiabatically prepare a low-entropy gas of polar molecules in a lattice starting from an ultracold Bose-Fermi mixture. We find that interspecies interactions affect the final temperature of the mixture after the adiabatic loading procedure and detrimentally limit the molecular peak filling. Our conclusions are in agreement with rec…
In this article, we report the measurement of collision-induced loss rate coefficients β_{Li,Rb} and β_{Rb,Li}, and also discuss means to significantly suppress such collision induced losses. We first describe our dual-species magneto-optical trap (MOT) that allows us to simultaneously trap > 5x10^8 7Li atoms loaded from a Zeeman slower and > 2x10^8 85Rb atoms loaded from a dispenser. We observe strong interspecies collision-induced losses in the MOTs which dramatically reduce the maximum atom number achievable in the MOTs. We measure the trap loss rate coefficients β_{Li,Rb} and β_{Rb,Li}, an…
Using the approach of low-energy effective field theory, the phase diagram is studied for a mixture of two species of pseudospin-$\1/2$ Bose atoms with interspecies spin-exchange. There are four mean-field regimes on the parameter plane of $g_e$ and $g_z$, where $g_e$ is the interspecies spin-exchange interaction strength, while $g_z$ is the difference between the interaction strength of interspecies scattering without spin-exchange of equal spins and that of unequal spins. Two regimes, with $|g_z| > |g_e|$, correspond to ground states with the total spins of the two species parallel or antipa…
We consider a mixture of two distinct species of atoms of pseudospin-1/2 with both intraspecies and Interspecies spin-exchange interactions, and find all the ground stats in a general case of the parameters in the effective Hamiltonian. In general, corresponding to the two species and two pseudo-spin states, there are four orbital wave functions into which the atoms condense. We find that in certain parameter regimes, the ground state is the so-called polarized entangled Bose-Einstein condensation, i.e. in addition to condensation of interspecies singlet pairs, there are unpaired atoms with sp…
We investigate the tunneling properties of a two-species few-boson mixture in a one-dimensional triple well and harmonic trap. The mixture is prepared in an initial state with a strong spatial correlation for one species and a complete localization for the other species. We observe a correlation-induced tunneling process in the weak interspecies interaction regime. The onset of the interspecies interaction disturbes the spatial correlation of one species and induces tunneling among the correlated wells. The corresponding tunneling properties can be controlled by the spatial correlations with a…
We investigate the ground state properties and the nonequilibrium dynamics of a lattice trapped bosonic mixture consisting of an impurity species and a finite-sized medium. For the case of one as well as two impurities we observe that, depending on the lattice depth and the interspecies interaction strength, a transition from a strongly delocalized to a localized impurity distribution occurs. In the latter regime the two species phase separate, thereby forming a particle-hole pair. For two impurities we find that below a critical lattice depth they are delocalized among two neighboring outer l…
We present highly-accurate energy spectra and eigen functions of small 1d harmonically trapped two-component Fermi gases with interspecies $δ$-function interactions, and analyze the correlations of the so-called upper branch (i.e., the branch that describes a repulsive Fermi gas consisting of atoms but no molecules) for positive and negative coupling constants. Changes of the two-body correlations as a function of the interspecies coupling strength reflect the competition of the interspecies interaction and the effective repulsion due to the Pauli exclusion principle, and are interpreted as a …
Multicomponent quantum gases are ideal platforms to study fundamental phenomena arising from the mutual interaction between different constituents. Particularly, due to the repulsive interactions between two species, the system may exhibit a phase separation. We develop a mean-field-based theory for a two-component Bose mixture, which is equivalent to the Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov approximation, and derive analytical expressions for the phase boundary and miscibility. The majority of existing theories, which are valid only for weakly interacting Bose gases, predict that the phase boundary is det…
We report on previously unobserved inter-system degeneracies in two-component equal-mass Fermi gases with interspecies zero-range interactions under isotropic harmonic confinement. Over the past 10 years, two-component Fermi gases consisting of $n_1$ spin-up and $n_2$ spin-down atoms with interspecies zero-range interactions have become a paradigm for modeling condensed matter systems, nuclear matter and neutron matter. We show that the eigen energies of the $(n_1+1,n_2-1)$ system are degenerate with the eigen energies of the $(n_1,n_2)$ system for any s-wave scattering length $a_s$, including…
We investigate the formation of discrete breathers (DBs) and the dynamics of the mixture of two-species Bose-Einstein condensates (BECs) in open boundary optical lattices using the discrete nonlinear Schrödinger equations. The results show that the coupling of intra- and interspecies interaction can lead to the existence of pure single-species DBs and symbiotic DBs (i.e., two-species DBs). Furthermore, we find that there is a selective distillation phenomenon in the dynamics of the mixture of two-species BECs. One can selectively distil one species from the mixture of two-species BECs and can …
We study the dynamics of a two-species Bose-Einstein condensate in a double well. Such a system is characterized by the intraspecies and interspecies s-wave scattering as well as the Josephson tunneling between the two wells and the population transfer between the two species. We investigate the dynamics for some interesting regimes and present numerical results to support our conclusions. In the case of vanishing intraspecies scattering lengths and a weak interspecies scattering length, we find collapses and revivals in the population dynamics. A possible experimental implementation of our pr…
We study the interactions between two atomic species in a binary Bose-Einstein condensate to revisit the conditions for miscibility, oscillatory dynamics between the species, steady state solutions and their stability. By employing a variational approach for a quasi one-dimensional, two-atomic species, condensate we obtain equations of motion for the parameters of each species: amplitude, width, position and phase. A further simplification leads to a reduction of the dynamics into a simple classical Newtonian system where components oscillate in an effective potential with a frequency that dep…
We study theoretically the interaction between two species of ultracold atoms confined into two layers of a finite separation, and demonstrate the existence of new types of confinement-induced interlayer bound and quasi-bound molecules: these novel exciton-like interlayer molecules appear for both positive and negative scattering lengths, and exist even for layer separations many times larger than the interspecies scattering length. The lifetime of the quasi-bound molecules grows exponentially with increasing layer separation, and they can therefore be observed in simple shaking experiments, a…
We present measurements of interspecies Feshbach resonances and subsequent creation of dual-species Bose-Einstein condensates of $^{23}\mathrm{Na}$ and $^{39}\mathrm{K}$. We prepare both optically trapped ensembles in the spin state $\left|f = 1,m_{f}=-1\right\rangle$ and perform atom loss spectroscopy in a magnetic field range from 0 to $700 \, \mathrm{G}$. The observed features include several s-wave poles and a zero crossing of the interspecies scattering length as well as inelastic two-body contributions in the $\mathcal{M} = m_{\mathrm{Na}}+m_{\mathrm{K}} = -2$ submanifold. We identify an…
We present measurements of interspecies thermalization between ultracold samples of $^{133}$Cs and either $^{174}$Yb or $^{170}$Yb. The two species are trapped in a far-off-resonance optical dipole trap and $^{133}$Cs is sympathetically cooled by Yb. We extract effective interspecies thermalization cross sections by fitting the thermalization measurements to a rate equation model, giving $σ_{\mathrm{Cs^{174}Yb}} = \left(5 \pm 2\right) \times 10^{-13} \, \mathrm{cm^{2}}$ and $σ_{\mathrm{Cs^{170}Yb}} = \left(18 \pm 8\right) \times 10^{-13} \, \mathrm{cm^{2}}$. We perform quantum scattering calcu…
We use an effective-field-theory framework to analyze the Efimov effect in heteronuclear three-body systems consisting of two species of atoms with a large interspecies scattering length. In the leading-order description of this theory, various three-body observables in heteronuclear mixtures can be universally parameterized by one three-body parameter. We present the next-to-leading corrections, which include the effects of the finite interspecies effective range and the finite intraspecies scattering length, to various three-body observables. We show that only one additional three-body param…
The properties of two-component Fermi gases become universal if the interspecies s-wave scattering length $a_s$ and the average interparticle spacing are much larger than the range of the underlying two-body potential. Using an explicitly correlated Gaussian basis set expansion approach, we determine the eigen energies of two-component Fermi gases in a cubic box with periodic boundary conditions as functions of the interspecies s-wave scattering length and the effective range of the two-body potential. The universal properties of systems consisting of up to four particles are determined by ext…
Two-component Fermi and Bose gases with infinitely large interspecies s-wave scattering length $a_s$ exhibit a variety of intriguing properties. Among these are the scale invariance of two-component Fermi gases with equal masses, and the favorable scaling of Efimov features for two-component Bose gases and Bose-Fermi mixtures with unequal masses. This paper builds on our earlier work [D. Blume and K. M. Daily, arXiv:1006.5002] and presents a detailed discussion of our studies of small unequal-mass two-component systems with infinite $a_s$ in the regime where three-body Efimov physics is absent…
We present the production of dual-species Bose-Einstein condensates of $^{39}\mathrm{K}$ and $^{87}\mathrm{Rb}$. Preparation of both species in the $\left| F=1,m_F=-1 \right\rangle$ state enabled us to exploit a total of three Fesh\-bach resonances which allows for simultaneous Feshbach tuning of the $^{39}\mathrm{K}$ intraspecies and the $^{39}\mathrm{K}$-$^{87}\mathrm{Rb}$ interspecies scattering length. Thus dual-species Bose-Einstein condensates were produced by sympathetic cooling of $^{39}\mathrm{K}$ with $^{87}\mathrm{Rb}$. A dark spontaneous force optical trap was used for $^{87}\mathr…
The beyond-mean-field Lee-Huang-Yang (LHY) correction is ubiquitous in dilute ultracold quantum gases. However, its effects are often elusive due to the typically much larger influence of the mean-field energy. In this work, we study an ultracold mixture of $^{23}$Na and $^{87}$Rb with tunable attractive interspecies interactions. The LHY effects manifest in the formation of self-bound quantum liquid droplets and the expansion dynamics of the gas-phase sample. A liquid-to-gas phase diagram is obtained by measuring the critical atom numbers below which the self-bound behavior disappears. In sta…
We unravel the correlated tunneling dynamics of a mass imbalanced few-body fermi-fermi mixture upon quenching the tilt of a double-well. The non-equilibrium dynamics of both species changes from Rabi-oscillations close to the non-interacting limit to a delayed tunneling dynamics for moderate interspecies repulsions. Considering strong interspecies interactions the lighter species experiences quantum self-trapping due to the heavier species which acts as an effective material barrier, while performing almost perfect Rabi-oscillations. The degree of entanglement, inherent in the system, is analy…
We unravel the nonequilibrium dynamics of two fermionic impurities immersed in a one-dimensional bosonic gas following an interspecies interaction quench from weak to strong repulsions. Monitoring the temporal evolution of the single-particle density of each species we reveal the existence of four distinct dynamical regimes. For weak interspecies repulsions both species either perform a breathing motion or the impurity density splits into two parts which interact and disperse within the bosonic cloud. Turning to strong interactions we observe the formation of dark-bright states within the mean…
We investigate the ground state of a few-body Bose-Fermi mixture in a one-dimensional harmonic trap with varying interaction strengths and mass ratio. A bunching-antibunching crossover of the bosonic species for increasing interspecies' repulsion is observed within our fully correlated \textit{ab~initio} studies. Interestingly, this crossover is suppressed if the bosonic repulsion exceeds a critical value which strongly depends on the mass ratio. In order to unveil the physical origin of this crossover, we employ different levels of approximations: while a species mean-field approach can accou…
We construct exact stationary solutions to the one-dimensional coupled Gross-Pitaevskii equations for the two-species Bose-Einstein condensates with equal intraspecies and interspecies interaction constants. Three types of complex solutions as well as their soliton limits are derived. By making use of the SU(2) unitary symmetry, we further obtain analytical time-evolving solutions. These solutions exhibit spatiotemporal periodicity.
To analyze the ground-state phase diagram of Bose-Bose mixtures loaded into $d$-dimensional hypercubic optical lattices, we perform a strong-coupling power-series expansion in the kinetic energy term (plus a scaling analysis) for the two-species Bose-Hubbard model with onsite boson-boson interactions. We consider both repulsive and attractive interspecies interaction, and obtain an analytical expression for the phase boundary between the incompressible Mott insulator and the compressible superfluid phase up to third order in the hoppings. In particular, we find a re-entrant quantum phase trans…
We consider a mixture of two bosonic species with tunable interspecies interaction in a periodic potential and discuss the advantages of low filling factors on the detection of the pair-superfluid phase. We show how the emergence of such a phase can be put dramatically into evidence by looking at the interference pictures and density correlations after expansion and by changing the interspecies interaction from attractive to repulsive.
We probe the collective dynamics of a quantum degenerate Bose-Bose mixture of Cs and $^{174}$Yb with attractive interspecies interactions. Specifically, we excite vertical center of mass oscillations of the Cs condensate, and observe significant damping for the Cs dipole mode, due to the rapid transfer of energy to the larger Yb component, and the ensuing acoustic dissipation. Numerical simulations based on coupled Gross-Pitaevskii equations provide excellent agreement, and additionally reveal the possibility of late-time revivals (beating) which are found to be highly sensitive to the Cs and …
A 2D Fock-state lattice (FSL is constructed from the many-body states of two interacting two-mode quantum gases. By periodically driving the interspecies interactions and pulsing the tunneling between the two modes of each gas, a synthetic gauge field is generated. We derive an effective Hamiltonian in the short pulse limit which resembles the Harper-Hofstadter Hamiltonian where the magnetic flux per plaquette is controlled by the ratio of the interaction energy and the driving frequency. The quasispectrum of the Floquet operator of the driving sequence shows the celebrated Hofstadter's butter…
We theoretically investigate the out-of-equilibrium dynamics in a binary Bose-Einstein condensate confined within two-dimensional box potentials. One species of the condensate interacts with a pair of oppositely wound, but otherwise identical Laguerre-Gaussian laser pulses, while the other species is influenced only via the interspecies interaction. Starting from the Hamiltonian, we derive the equations of motion that accurately delineate the behavior of the condensates during and after the light-matter interaction. Depending on the number the helical windings (or the magnitude of topological …
We investigate the tunneling dynamics of an ultracold bosonic impurity species which interacts repulsively with a second, larger Bose gas. Both species are held in a finite-sized quasi-one-dimensional box potential. In addition, the impurity bosons experience a periodic potential generated by an optical lattice. We initially prepare our binary mixture in its ground state, such that the impurities and Bose gas are phase separated and the impurities localize pairwise in adjacent sites of the periodic potential, by tuning the interaction strengths and the lattice depth correspondingly. The dynami…
We discuss the mean-field theories obtained from the leading order in a large-$N$ approximation for one- and two- component dilute Bose gases. For a one-component Bose gas this approximation has the following properties: the Bose-Einstein condensation (BEC) phase transition is second order but the critical temperature $T_c$ is not shifted from the non-interacting gas value $T_0$. The spectrum of excitations in the BEC phase resembles the Bogoliubov dispersion with the usual coupling constant replaced by the running coupling constant which depends on both temperature and momentum. We then study…
We study two-component (or pseudospin-1/2) bosons with pair hopping interactions in synthetic dimension, for which a feasible experimental scheme on a square optical lattice is also presented. Previous studies have shown that two-component bosons with on-site interspecies interaction can only generate nontrivial interspecies paired superfluid (super-counter-fluidity or pair-superfluid) state. In contrast, apart from interspecies paired superfluid, we reveal two new phases by considering this additional pair hopping interaction. These novel phases are intraspecies paired superfluid (molecular s…
Recent experiments have illustrated that long range two-body interactions can be induced by laser coupling atoms to highly excited Rydberg states. Stimulated by this achievement, we study supersolidity of lattice bosons in an experimentally relevant situation. In our setup, we consider two-component atoms on a square lattice, where one species is weakly dressed to an electronically high-lying (Rydberg) state, generating a tunable, soft-core shape long-range interaction. Interactions between atoms of the second species and between the two species are characterized by local inter- and intra-spec…
We study the matter-wave bistability in coupled atom-molecule quantum gases, in which heteronuclear molecules are created via an interspecies Feshbach resonance involving either two-species Bose or two-species Fermi atoms at zero temperature. We show that the resonant two-channel Bose model is equivalent to the nondegenerate parametric down-conversion in quantum optics, while the corresponding Fermi model can be mapped to a quantum optics model that describes a single-mode laser field interacting with an ensemble of inhomogeneously broadened two-level atoms. Using these analogy and the fact th…
A bosonic gas formed by two interacting species trapped in a double-well potential features macroscopic localization effects when the interspecies interaction becomes sufficiently strong. A repulsive interaction spatially separates the species into different wells while an attractive interaction confines both species in the same well. We perform a fully-analytic study of the transitions from the weak- to the strong-interaction regime by exploiting the semiclassical method in which boson populations are represented in terms of continuous variables. We find an explict description of low-energy e…
Ground-state phase diagram of two-component Bose gases with Rashba spin-orbit coupling is determined via a variational approach. A phase in which the fully polarized condensate occupies zero momentum is identified. This zero-momentum phase competes with the spin density wave phase when interspecies interaction is stronger than intraspecies interaction, and the former one is always the ground state for weak spin-orbit coupling. When the energies of these two phases are close, there is a phase separation between them. At finite temperature, such a zero-momentum condensation can be induced by a f…
The induced intraspecies interactions among the majority species, mediated by the minority species, is computed for a population-imbalanced two-component Fermi gas. Although the Feshbach-resonance mediated interspecies interaction is dominant for equal populations, leading to singlet s-wave pairing, we find that in the strongly imbalanced regime the induced intraspecies interaction leads to p-wave pairing and superfluidity of the majority species. Thus, we predict that the observed spin-polaron Fermi liquid state in this regime is unstable to p-wave superfluidity, in accordance with the result…
Trapped two-component Fermi gases allow for the investigation of the so-called BCS-BEC crossover by tuning the interspecies atom-atom $s$-wave scattering length scattering $a^{(aa)}$ from attractive to repulsive, including vanishing and infinitely large values. Here, we numerically determine the energy spectrum of the equal-mass spin-balanced four-fermion system---the smallest few-particle system that exhibits BCS-BEC crossover-like behavior---as a function of $a^{(aa)}$ using the stochastic variational approach. For comparative purposes, we also treat the two- and three-particle systems. Stat…
We study the dynamics of two strongly interacting bosons with an additional impurity atom trapped in a harmonic potential. Using exact numerical diagonalization we are able to fully explore the dynamical evolution when the interaction between the two distinct species is suddenly switched on (quenched). We examine the behavior of the densities, the entanglement, the Loschmidt echo and the spectral function for a large range of inter-species interactions and find that even in such small systems evidence of Anderson's orthogonality catastrophe can be witnessed.
We explore the quench dynamics of a binary Bose-Einstein condensate crossing the miscibility-immiscibility threshold and vice versa, both within and in particular beyond the mean-field approximation. Increasing the interspecies repulsion leads to the filamentation of the density of each species, involving shorter wavenumbers and longer spatial scales in the many-body approach. These filaments appear to be strongly correlated and exhibit domain-wall structures. Following the reverse quench process multiple dark-antidark solitary waves are spontaneously generated and subsequently found to decay …
The superfluid mixture of interacting Bose and Fermi species is a remarkable many-body quantum system. Dilute degenerate atomic gases, especially for two species of distinct masses, are excellent candidates for exploring fundamental features of superfluid mixture. However, producing a mass-imbalance Bose-Fermi superfluid mixture, providing an unambiguous visual proof of two-species superfluidity and probing inter-species interaction effects remain challenging. Here, we report the realization of a two-species superfluid of lithium-6 and potassium-41. By rotating the dilute gases, we observe the…
