One of the main milestones in the study of opto- and electro-mechanical systems is to certify entanglement between a mechanical resonator and an optical or microwave mode of a cavity field. In this work, we show how a suitable time-periodic modulation can help to achieve large degrees of entanglement, building upon the framework introduced in [Phys. Rev. Lett. 103, 213603 (2009)]. It is demonstrated that with suitable driving, the maximum degree of entanglement can be significantly enhanced, in a way exhibiting a non-trivial dependence on the specifics of the modulation. Such time-dependent driving might help experimentally achieving entangled mechanical systems also in situations when quantum correlations are otherwise suppressed by thermal noise.
Parametrically modulated optomechanical systems have been recently proposed as a simple and efficient setting for the quantum control of a micromechanical oscillator: relevant possibilities include the generation of squeezing in the oscillator position (or momentum) and the enhancement of entanglement between mechanical and radiation modes. In this paper we further investigate this new modulation regime, considering an optomechanical system with one or more parameters being modulated over time. We first apply a sinusoidal modulation of the mechanical frequency and characterize the optimal regi…
We theoretically study the laser cooling of cavity optomechanics when the mechanical resonance frequency and damping depend on time. In the regime of weak optomechanical coupling we extend the theory of laser cooling using an adiabatic approximation. We discuss the modifications of the cooling dynamics and compare it with numerical simulations in a wide range of modulation frequencies.
Proposing an optomechanical cavity modulated periodically, we study the modulation synchronization of mechanical modes of the mirrors. A periodic modulation is applied to one of the mirrors, where the second mirror has the capability of oscillation, without any modulation for that. As a result, we find a phase-locking synchronization between the mechanical modes of the mirrors and enhancement of quantum synchronization by having the periodic modulation. Using the fact that, periodic modulation can make the squeezed states, we show that there is a robust synchronization of periodic modulation b…
We consider a hybrid optomechanical system which is composed of the atomic ensemble and a standard optomechanical cavity driven by the periodically modulated external laser field. We investigate the asymptotic behaviors of Heisenberg operator first moments and clearly show the approaching process between the exact numerical results and analytical solutions. Based on the specific modulation forms of external driving and effective optomechanical coupling, we discuss in detail the atom-mirror entanglement enhancement, respectively. Compared with the constant driving regime, the entanglement can b…
We systematically study the influence of simultaneously modulating the input laser intensity and quantum dot (QD) resonance frequecy on the mean-field dynamics, fluctuation energy transfer and entanglement in a optomechanical semi-conductor resonator embedded with a QD. We show that the modulation and the hybrid system can be engineered to attain the desired mean-field values, control the fluctuation energy transfer and the entanglement between the various degrees of freedom. A remarkably high degree of entanglement can be achieved by modulating only the QD frequency. The interplay between the…
Being beneficial for the amplitude modulation of the pump laser, we propose a simple yet surprisingly effective mechanical squeezing scheme in a standard optomechanical system. By merely introducing a specific kind of periodic modulation into the single-tone driving field to cool down the mechanical Bogoliubov mode, the far beyond 3-dB strong mechanical squeezing can be engineered without requiring any additional techniques. Specifically, we find that the amount of squeezing is not simply dependent on the order of magnitude of the effective optomechanical coupling but strongly on the ratio of …
We consider an optomechanical cavity with a movable end-mirror as a quantum mechanical oscillator (MO) containing an interacting cigar-shaped Bose-Eisenstein condensate (BEC). It is assumed that both the MO and the BEC interact with the radiation pressure of the cavity field in the red-detuned and weak coupling regimes while the two-body atomic collisions frequency of the BEC and the mechanical spring coefficient of the MO are coherently modulated. By analyzing the scattering matrix we find that a frequency-dependent squeezing is induced to the three subsystems only due to the coherent modulat…
We propose an approach to enhance the mechanical effects of single photons in a two-mode optomechanical system. This is achieved by introducing a resonance-frequency modulation to the cavity fields. When the modulation frequency and amplitude satisfy certain conditions, the mechanical displacement induced by single photons could be larger than the quantum zero-point fluctuation of the oscillating resonator. This method can be used to create distinct mechanical superposition states.
We theoretically propose and investigate a feasible experimental scheme for the realization of the dynamical Casimir effect (DCE) in a hybrid optomechanical cavity with a moving end mirror containing an interacting cigar-shaped Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC). We show that in the red-detuned regime of cavity optomechanics together with the weak optomechanical coupling limit by \textit{coherent} modulation of the \textit{s}-wave scattering frequency of the BEC and the mechanical spring coefficient of the mechanical oscillator (MO), the mechanical and atomic quantum vacuum fluctuations are parame…
We systematically study the influence of amplitude modulation on the steady-state bosonic squeezing and entanglement in a dissipative three-mode optomechanical system, where a vibrational mode of the membrane is coupled to the left and right cavity modes via the radiation pressure. Numerical simulation results show that the steady-state bosonic squeezing and entanglement can be significantly enhanced by periodically modulated external laser driving either or both ends of the cavity. Remarkably, the fact that as long as one periodically modulated external laser driving either end of the cavitie…
We study self-excited oscillation (SEO) in an on-fiber optomechanical cavity. While the phase of SEO randomly diffuses in time when the laser power that is injected into the cavity is kept constant, phase locking may occur when the laser power is periodically modulated in time. We investigate the dependence of phase locking on the amplitude and frequency of the laser power modulation. We find that phase locking can be induced with a relatively low modulation amplitude provided that the ratio between the modulation frequency and the frequency of SEO is tuned close to a rational number of relati…
We propose effective generation of entangled and squeezed states in an optoelectromechanical system comprising of a macroscopic LC electrical circuit and an optomechanical system. We obtain enhanced entanglement between optical and LC circuit modes that are coupled via a common mechanical mode in the microwave regime. We achieve this enhancement by a stepwise application of modulation in the laser drive, the voltage drive and the spring constant of the moveable end-mirror. The maximum amount of entanglement is observed to be primarily dependent on the voltage modulation and changes slightly wi…

We report the experimental observation of two-mode squeezing in the oscillation quadratures of a thermal micro-oscillator. This effect is obtained by parametric modulation of the optical spring in a cavity opto-mechanical system. In addition to stationary variance measurements, we describe the dynamic behavior in the regime of pulsed parametric excitation, showing enhanced squeezing effect surpassing the stationary 3dB limit. While the present experiment is in the classical regime, our technique can be exploited to produce entangled, macroscopic quantum opto-mechanical modes.
We propose to mechanically control photon blockades (PB) in an optomechanical system with driving oscillators. We show that by tuning the mechanical driving parameters we achieve selective single-photon blockade (1PB) or two-photon blockade (2PB) as well as simultaneous 1PB and 2PB at the same frequency. This mechanical engineering of 1PB and 2PB can be understood from the anharmonic energy levels due to the modulation of the mechanical driving. In contrast to the optomechanical systems without any mechanical driving featuring PB only for specific optical detuning, our results can be useful fo…
In this paper, we theoretically propose and investigate a feasible experimental scheme for realizing the dynamical Casimir effect (DCE) of phonons in an optomechanical setup formed by a ground-state precooled mechanical oscillator (MO) inside a Fabry-P{é}rot cavity, which is driven by an amplitude-modulated classical laser field in the dispersive (far-detuned) regime. The time modulation of the driving field leads to the parametric amplification of the mechanical vacuum fluctuations of the MO, which results in the generation of Casimir phonons over time scales longer than the cavity lifetime. …
We study the fundamental bounds on precision measurements of parameters contained in a time-dependent nonlinear optomechanical Hamiltonian, which includes the nonlinear light-matter coupling, a mechanical displacement term, and a single-mode mechanical squeezing term. By using a recently developed method to solve the dynamics of this system, we derive a general expression for the quantum Fisher information and demonstrate its applicability through three concrete examples: estimation of the strength of a nonlinear light-matter coupling, the strength of a time-modulated mechanical displacement, …
We investigate the optical response of a hybrid electro-optomechanical system interacting with a qubit. In our experimentally feasible system, tunable all-optical-switching, double-optomechanically induced transparency (OMIT) and optomechanically induced absorption (OMIA) can be realized. The proposed system is also shown to generate anomalous dispersion. Based on our theoretical results, we provide a tunable switch between OMIT and OMIA of the probe field by manipulating the relevant system parameters. Also, the normal-mode-splitting (NMS) effect induced by the interactions between the subsys…
In recent development of quantum technologies, a frequency conversion of quantum signals has been studied widely. We investigate the optic-microwave entanglement that is generated by applying an electro-optomechanical frequency conversion scheme to one mode in an optical two-mode squeezed vacuum state. We quantify entanglement of the converted two-mode Gaussian state, where surviving entanglement of the state is analyzed with respect to the parameters of the electro-optomechanical system. Furthermore, we show that there exists an upper bound for the entanglement that survives after the convers…

We propose a novel scheme to realize electrically controlled quantum memories in the opto- and electro-mechanical (OEM) cavity. Combining this OEM cavity with the mechanism of Electromagnetically Induced Transparency (EIT) we find that the quantum interference, arising from the two optical transitions of the $Λ$ type three-level atomic ensembles, can be manipulated electrically. Numerical calculations show that the probe photon state can be well stored into the atomic spin state by sending an electric current pulse and retrieved with time-reverse symmetry by sending the other current pulse wit…
We present a detailed theoretical discussion of the effects of ubiquitous laser noise on cooling and the coherent dynamics in opto-mechanical systems. Phase fluctuations of the driving laser induce modulations of the linearized opto-mechanical coupling as well as a fluctuating force on the mirror due to variations of the mean cavity intensity. We first evaluate the influence of both effects on cavity cooling and find that for a small laser linewidth the dominant heating mechanism arises from intensity fluctuations. The resulting limit on the final occupation number scales linearly with the cav…

We predict the existence of the electromagnetically induced absorption (EIA) in the double cavity configurations of the hybrid opto-electro mechanical systems (OEMS). We discuss the origin of the EIA in OEMS which exhibit the existence of an absorption peak within the transparency window. We provide analytical results for the width and the height of the EIA peak. The combination of the EIT and EIA is especially useful for photon switching applications. The EIA that we discuss is different from the one originally discovered by Lezama et al in atomic systems and can be understood in terms of the…
We present an integrated optomechanical and electromechanical nanocavity, in which a common mechanical degree of freedom is coupled to an ultrahigh-Q photonic crystal defect cavity and an electrical circuit. The sys- tem allows for wide-range, fast electrical tuning of the optical nanocavity resonances, and for electrical control of optical radiation pressure back-action effects such as mechanical amplification (phonon lasing), cooling, and stiffening. These sort of integrated devices offer a new means to efficiently interconvert weak microwave and optical signals, and are expected to pave the…
Squeezing is a resource that enables precision enhancements in quantum metrology and can be used as a basis for the generation of entanglement by linear optics. While strong squeezing is challenging to generate in optical fields, here we present simple periodic modulation protocols in optomechanical systems that can generate large squeezing of their mechanical degrees of freedom for realistic system parameters. We then proceed to show how such protocols can serve to improve the measurement precision of weak forces and enhance the generation of entanglement between test masses that are subject …
