Prospects for Parity Non-conservation Experiments with Highly Charged Heavy Ions

We discuss the prospects for parity non-conservation experiments with highly charged heavy ions. Energy levels and parity mixing for heavy ions with two to five electrons are calculated. We investigate two-photon-transitions and the possibility to observe interference effects between weak-matrix elements and Stark matrix elements for periodic electric field configurations.

Prospects for Forbidden-Transition Spectroscopy and Parity Violation Measurements using a Beam of Cold Stable or Radioactive Atoms

Laser cooling and trapping offers the possibility of confining a sample of radioactive atoms in free space. Here, we address the question of how best to take advantage of cold atom properties to perform the observation of as highly forbidden a line as the 6S-7S Cs transition for achieving, in the longer term, Atomic Parity Violation measurements in radioactive alkali isotopes. Photon-photon polarization correlations as a tool for studying parity non-conservation in heliumlike Uranium

Due to electron-nucleus weak interaction, atomic bound states with different parities turn out to be mixed. We discuss a prospect for measuring the mixing parameter between the nearly degenerate metastable states 1s_{1/2} 2s_{1/2} : J = 0 and 1s_{1/2} 2p_{1/2} : J = 0 in heliumlike Uranium. Our analysis is based on the polarization properties of the photons emitted in the two-photon decays of such states.

Analysis of two-pathway coherent control for precision measurement of weak optical transitions

We present a new technique based on two-pathway optical coherent control for the sensitive detection and precise measurement of highly-forbidden transitions in atomic systems. Specifically, we show that ($ω$, 2$ω$) coherent control can be applied to the measurement of the magnetic dipole and electroweak parity nonconserving amplitudes in atomic cesium, with the principal advantage of reduced systematic errors related to field reversals often encountered in previous measurements of these effects.
