We study the $κ$ meson in 2+1 flavor QCD with sufficiently light $u/d$ quarks. Using numerical simulation we measure the point-to-point $κ$ correlators in the "Asqtad" improved staggered fermion formulation. We analyze those correlators using the rooted staggered chiral perturbation theory (rS$χ$PT), particular attention is paid to the bubble contribution. After chiral extrapolation, we obtain the physical $κ$ mass with $828\pm97$ MeV, which is within the recent experimental value $800\sim900$MeV. These numerical simulations are carried out with MILC 2+1 flavor gauge configurations at lattice spacing $a \approx 0.12$ fm.
We study the meson-meson and meson-baryon interactions in lattice QCD. The simulation is performed on 20^3 * 24 lattice at β=5.7 using Wilson gauge action and Wilson fermion at the quenched level. By adopting one static quark for each hadron as "heavy-light meson" and "heavy-light-light baryon", we define the distance $r$ of two hadrons and extract the inter-hadron potential from the energy difference of the two-particle state and its asymptotic state. We find that both of the meson-meson and meson-baryon potentials are nontrivially weak for the whole range of 0.2 fm <= r <= 0.8 fm. The effect…
We study mass spectra of a meson-meson system involving two light and two heavy quarks on an anisotropic lattice. The heavy quarks are treated in the static approximation. The dependence of the spectrum on the relative distance of the heavy quarks is extracted from the lattice simulation using the maximum entropy method (MEM). A correlation matrix of meson-meson operators emphasizing quark and gluon exchange degrees of freedom is employed in an attempt to learn about aspects of mechanisms of hadronic interaction.
We present preliminary results of an ongoing lattice QCD computation of the spectrum of $D$ mesons and $D_s$ mesons and of charmonium using 2+1+1 flavors of twisted mass sea and valence quarks.
We construct efficient interpolating fields for lattice spectroscopy of mesons by applying covariant derivatives on Jacobi smeared quark sources. These interpolators are tested in a quenched calculation of excited mesons based on the variational method. We present results for pseudoscalar, scalar, vector and pseudovector mesons.
We review various B meson decays that require knowledge of the transverse decay constant of the b1(1235) meson. We report on an exploratory lattice QCD calculation of the transverse decay constant of the b1 meson. The lattice QCD calculations used unquenched gauge configurations, at two lattice spacings, generated with two flavours of sea quarks. The twisted mass formalism is used.
We study the flavour singlet pseudoscalar mesons from first principles using lattice QCD. With N_f=2 flavours of light quark, this is the so-called eta_2 meson and we discuss the phenomenological status of this. Using maximally twisted-mass lattice QCD, we extract the mass of the eta_2 meson at two values of the lattice spacing for lighter quarks than previously discussed in the literature. We are able to estimate the mass value in the limit of light quarks with their physical masses.
We present first results of a 2+1+1 flavor twisted mass lattice QCD computation of strange and charm meson masses. We focus on D and D_s mesons with spin J = 0,1 and parity P = -,+.
Results on semileptonic decay matrix elements of heavy-light mesons and charmonium spectrum and decay constant using a fine quenched lattice are presented.
We present a high statistics study of the D- and B-meson decay constants. The results were obtained by using the Clover and Wilson lattice actions at $β=6.0$ and 6.2.
We investigate the real and imaginary chemical-potential dependence of pion and $ρ$-meson screening masses in both the confinement and the deconfinement region by using two-flavor lattice QCD. The spatial meson correlators are calculated in the imaginary chemical potential region with lattice QCD simulations. We extract pion and $ρ$-meson screening masses from the correlators. The obtained meson screening masses are extrapolated to the real chemical potential region by assuming some analytic function. In the real chemical potential region, the resulting pion and $ρ$-meson screening masses mono…
We report results for the masses of the flavour non-singlet light 0++, 1--, and 1+- mesons from unquenched lattice QCD at two lattice spacings. The twisted mass formalism was used with two flavours of sea quarks. For the 0++ and 1+- mesons we look for the effect of decays on the mass dependence. For the light vector mesons we study the chiral extrapolations of the mass. We report results for the leptonic and transverse decay constants of the rho meson. We test the mass dependence of the KRSF relations.
Neutral-meson mixing is loop suppressed in the Standard Model, leading to the possibility of enhanced sensitivity to new physics. The uncertainty in Standard Model predictions for $B$-meson oscillation frequencies is dominated by theoretical uncertainties within the short-distance $B$-meson hadronic matrix elements, motivating the need for improved precision. In $D$-meson mixing, the Standard Model short-distance contributions are further suppressed by the GIM mechanism allowing for the possibility of large new physics enhancements. A first-principle determination of the $D$-meson short-distan…
We compute the masses of the flavour singlet 0++ mesons using (n_f=2) unquenched lattice QCD with the Iwasaki and Wilson gauge actions. Both fermionic and glueball interpolating operators are used to create the states. The mass of the lightest 0++ meson is suppressed relative to the mass of the 0++ glueball in quenched QCD at an equivalent lattice spacing. We discuss two possible physical reasons for this.
We investigate the masses (ground state energies) of neutral pseudoscalar and vector meson in $SU(3)$ lattice gauge theory in strong abelian magnetic field. The energy of $ρ^0$ meson with zero spin projection $s_z=0$ on the axis of the external magnetic field decreases, while the energies with non-zero spins $s_z=-1$ and $+1$ increase with the field. The energy of $π^0$ meson decrease as a function of the magnetic field. We calculated the magnetic polarizabilities of pseudoscalar and vector mesons for lattice volume $18^4$. For $ρ^0$ with spin $|s_z|=1$ and $π^0$ meson the extrapolations to ze…
Exploratory studies of heavy meson semileptonic decays on coarse lattices using Symanzik improved glue, NRQCD heavy and D234 light quarks are discussed. Comparisons are made between calculations on anisotropic and isotropic lattices. We find evidence that having an anisotropy helps in extracting better signals at higher momenta.
We present a study of the pseudoscalar and vector meson form factors, calculated using the Fat-Link Irrelevant Clover (FLIC) action in the framework of Quenched Lattice QCD. Of particular interest is the determination of a negative quadrupole moment, indicating that the $ρ$ meson is not spherically symmetric.
We analyze temporal and spatial meson correlators in quenched lattice QCD at T>0. Below T_c we observe little change in the meson properties as compared with T=0. Above T_c we observe new features: chiral symmetry restoration and signals of plasma formation, but also indication of persisting mesonic (metastable) states and different temporal and spatial masses in the mesonic channels. This suggests a complex picture of QGP in the region 1 - 1.5 T_c.
Using lattice QCD simulation in the quenched approximation, we study the $κ$ meson, which is ^3P_0 in the quark model, and compare experimental and other lattice data. The $κ$ is the lowest scalar meson with strangeness and constitutes the scalar nonet. The obtained mass is much higher than the recent experimental value, and therefore the $κ(800)$ is difficult to consider as a simple two-body constituent-quark structure, and may have another unconventional structure.
We present our preliminary analysis for the chamonium and D$_s$ spectra obtained from N$_f=2$ dynamical anisotropic lattices. We use 12$^3\times 80$ lattices with lattice spacing $a_t=7.35$ GeV$^{-1}$ and anisotropy of six. Meson correlators are computed using all-to-all propagators together with variational analysis.
We analyze the cut-off dependence of mesonic spectral functions calculated at finite temperature on Euclidean lattices with finite temporal extent. In the infinite temperature limit we present analytic results for lattice spectral functions calculated with standard Wilson fermions as well as a truncated perfect action. We explicitly determine the influence of `Wilson doublers' on the high momentum structure of the mesonic spectral functions and show that this cut-off effect is strongly suppressed when using an improved fermion action.
We compute the static-light meson spectrum using two-flavor Wilson twisted mass lattice QCD. We have considered five different values for the light quark mass corresponding to 300 MeV < m_PS < 600 MeV. We have extrapolated our results, to make predictions regarding the spectrum of B and B_s mesons.
The charmed-strange meson masses are calculated on a quenched lattice QCD. The charm and strange quark propagators are calculated on the same lattice with the overlap fermion. $16^3\times 72$ lattice with Wilson gauge action at $β=0.6345$ are used. The charm and strange quark masses are determined by fitting the $J/ψ$ and $ϕ$ masses respectively. The charmed strange meson spectrum for the scalar, axial, pseudoscalar and vector channels are calculated. They agree with experiments. In particular, we find the scalar meson mass to be 2248(78)MeV which is in agreement with that of D_{s0}^*(2317).
We present results from an analytic calculation of thermal meson spectral functions in the infinite temperature (free field) limit. We compare spectral functions for various lattice fermion formulations used at present in studies of in-medium properties of hadrons based on the maximum entropy method (MEM). In particular, we will present a new calculation of spectral functions performed with extended quark sources.
We investigate the ground state energies of vector $ρ^{\pm}$ and $K^{\pm *}$ mesons depending on the magnetic field value in the $SU(3)$ lattice gauge theory. It has been shown that the energy of a vector particle depends on its spin projection on the field axis. The magnetic dipole polarizability and hyperpolarizabilities give significant contributions to the energy value which prevents the formation of the charged vector meson condensate at high magnetic fields. We calculate the g-factor of $ρ^{\pm}$ and $K^{\pm*}$ mesons and the dipole magnetic polarizability of $ρ^{\pm}$ mesons.
We present results for the spectrum of static-light mesons from Nf=2 lattice QCD. These results were obtained using all-to-all light quark propagators on an anisotropic lattice, yielding an improved signal resolution when compared to more conventional lattice techniques. In particular, we consider the inversion of orbitally-excited multiplets with respect to the `standard ordering', which has been predicted by some quark models.
We investigate mesons containing charm quarks on fine lattices with a^{-1} \sim 5 GeV. The quenched approximation is employed using the Wilson gauge action at β= 6.6 and nonperturbatively O(a) improved Wilson quarks. We present results for decay constants using various interpolating fields and give preliminary results for form factors of semileptonic decays of D_s mesons to light pseudoscalar mesons.
We study the dynamical flavour dependence of the lattice estimates of the heavy meson decay constant in the static limit. We perform the analysis by considering negative flavour numbers and by extrapolating the results to positive values. We observe a sizeable flavour dependence which increases the quenched estimates.
We present results of an exploratory study of singlet scalar states in unquenched QCD using both glueball and meson operators. Results for non-singlet non-strange scalar mesons are also presented. We use Asqtad improved staggered fermions and gauge configurations generated by the MILC collaboration at lattice spacings of .12 and .09 fm. In this formulation, the glueball mass is not significantly different from the quenched value at finite lattice spacing. Significant taste violations are present in the scalar sector. At light quark masses, decay channels complicate the mass determinations. The…
We study mesons on the lattice with a special focus on excited states. For that purpose we construct several quark sources with different spatial smearings, including p-waves. These quark sources are then combined with the appropiate Dirac structures to form meson interpolators of definite spin. We use these operators to construct a cross correlation matrix from which we extract ground and excited meson states using the variational method. For the calculations we use gauge configurations with $N_f=2$ dynamical Clover Wilson fermions provided by the CP-PACS collaboration. We show preliminary re…
We describe and test a method to compute Euclidean meson two-point functions in lattice QCD. The contribution from the low-lying eigenmodes of the Dirac operator is averaged over all positions of the quark sources. The contribution from the higher modes is estimated in the traditional way with one or a few source points per lattice. In some channels, we observe a significant improvement in the two-point functions for small quark masses.
We present a calculation of magnetic moments for selected spin-1 mesons using the techniques of lattice QCD. This is carried out by introducing progressively small static magnetic field on the lattice and measuring the linear response of a hadron's mass shift. The calculations are done on $24^4$ quenched lattices using standard Wilson actions, with $β$=6.0 and pion mass down to 500 MeV. The results are compared to those from the form factor method where available.
We extend our investigation of heavy-light meson-meson interactions to a system consisting of a heavy-light meson and the corresponding antiparticle. An effective potential is obtained from meson-antimeson Green-functions computed in a quenched simulation with staggered fermions. Comparisons with a simulation using an $O(a^2)$ tree-level and tadpole improved gauge action and a full QCD simulation show that lattice discretization errors and dynamical quarks have no drastic influence. Calculations from inverse scattering theory propose a similar shape for $K\bar{K}$ potentials.
By comparing lattice data for the two heavy-light meson system (Q^2 qbar^2) with a standard many-body approach employing only interquark potentials, it is shown that the use of unmodified two-quark potentials leads to a gross overestimate of the binding energy.
We calculated correlators of vector, axial and pseudoscalar currents in external strong abelian magnetic field according to SU(2) gluodynamics. The masses of neutral $ρ$ and $A$ mesons with various spin projections to the axis parallel to the external magnetic field B have been calculated. We found that the masses of neutral mesons with zero spin $s=0$ decrease in increasing magnetic field, while the masses of the $ρ$ and $A$ mesons with spin $s=\pm 1$ increase in the mentioned field. Also we performed extrapolation and renormalization of masses on the lattice.
A system of two static quarks, at fixed distances r, and two light quarks is studied on an anisotropic lattice. Excitations by operators emphasizing quark or gluon degrees of freedom are examined. The maximum entropy method is applied in the spectral analysis. These simulations ultimately aim at learning about mechanisms of hadronic interaction.
The magnetic dipole polarizabilities of the vector $ρ^0$ and $ρ^{\pm}$ mesons in $SU(3)$ pure gauge theory are calculated in the article. Based on this the authors explore the contribution of the dipole magnetic polarizabilities to the tensor polarization of the vector mesons in external abelian magnetic field. The tensor polarization leads to the dilepton asymmetry observed in non-central heavy ion collisions and can be also estimated in lattice gauge theory.
We study light scalar mesons with particular focus on the a_0(980) using lattice QCD with 2+1+1 dynamical quark flavors. To investigate the structure of these scalar mesons and to identify, whether a sizeable tetraquark component is present, we use a large set of operators, including diquark-antidiquark, mesonic molecule and two-meson operators. We find that the low-lying states overlap essentially exclusively with two-meson states. This indicates that in the channels investigated no tightly bound four-quark states of either molecular or diquark-antidiquark type exist.
We present results of a 2+1+1 flavor twisted mass lattice QCD computation of the spectrum of $D$ mesons and $D_s$ mesons and of charmonium. Particular focus is put on the positive parity $D$ states (so-called $D^{\ast \ast}$ mesons) with quantum numbers $J^P = 0^+$, $1^+$ and $2^+$. Besides computing their masses we are also separating and classifying the two $J^P = 1^+$ states according to the angular momentum/spin of their light degrees of freedom (light quarks and gluons) $j =1/2, 3/2$.
Charmed meson charmonium spectra are studied with improved quark actions on anisotropic lattices. We measured the pseudo-scalar and vector meson dispersion relations for 4 lowest lattice momentum modes with quark mass values ranging from the strange quark to charm quark with 3 different values of gauge coupling $β$ and 4 different values of bare speed of light $ν$. With the bare speed of light parameter $ν$ tuned in a mass-dependent way, we study the mass spectra of $D$, $D_s$, $η_c$, $D^{\ast}$, $D_s^{\ast}$ and $J/ψ$ mesons. The results extrapolated to the continuum limit are compared with t…
We present results for a test of a mixed action approach with Osterwalder-Seiler valence quarks on a Wilson twisted mass sea for the example η, η' mesons. Flavour singlet pseudoscalar mesons obtain significant contributions from disconnected diagrams and are, therefore, expected to be particularly sensitive to mixed regularisations. We employ different procedures for matching valence and sea quark actions and show that the results agree in the continuum limit.
We present results for masses of excited mesons from dynamical clover-Wilson lattices provided by the CP-PACS collaboration at pion masses down to 500 MeV. Our analysis of the data is based on using a matrix of correlators from various source and sink operators. The spectroscopy results are discussed and compared to experimental values.
Correlators of vector, axial and pseudoscalar currents have been calculated in external strong magnetic field in SU(2) gluodynamics on the lattice. Neutral $ρ$ and $A$ meson masses with a zero spin projection to the axis parallel to the external magnetic field $B$ are calculated. The mass of the neutral $ρ$ meson with zero spin decreases with increasing of the magnetic field for available values of the magnetic field $eB\lesssim 2-2.5\, \Gev^2$, such behavior is necessary for a condensation of $ρ$ mesons in a strong magnetic field.
Recent progress in lattice calculations of properties of open-charm mesons, both regular and exotic, is reviewed, with an emphasis on spectroscopy. After reviewing recent calculations of excited state energy levels I will discuss progress in extracting hadronic masses and widths of charmed states from Lattice QCD simulations including low-lying scattering channels directly, to determine phase shift data and bound state/ resonance properties. With regard to other properties results from recent calculations of the $DD^*π$ and $DDρ$, $D^*D^*ρ$ couplings are presented. Beyond regular mesons, searc…
We study the ground state and next radial excitation of the $a_1$ mesons from a quenched lattice QCD simulation with the truncated overlap fermions formalism based on domain wall fermions. Our results are consistent with the experimental values for $a_1$(1260) and $a_1$(1640).
We report results of masses and decay constants of light and charmed pseudo-scalar mesons using lattice QCD with Möbius domain-wall fermions. Using this formulation we are able to compute pseudo-scalar decay constants through the pseudo-scalar density operator as well as with the axial-vector current. Results are shown from several lattice spacings and pion masses between 230 MeV and 500 MeV. We present an analysis of these results at different quark masses to show the chiral properties of the light mesons masses and decay constants.
We extend our calculations with the second-order tree-level and tadpole improved next-nearest-neighbor action to meson-meson systems. Correlation matrices built from interpolating fields representing two pseudoscalar mesons (pion-pion) with relative momenta p are diagonalized, and the mass spectrum is extracted. Link variable fuzzing and operator smearing at both sinks and sources is employed. Calculations are presented for two values of the hopping parameter. The spectrum is used to discuss the residual interaction in the meson-meson system.
Time correlation functions of a hybrid exotic meson operator, with JPC=1-+, generated in quenched lattice QCD are subjected to a (Bayesian) maximum entropy analysis. Five distinct spectral levels are uncovered. Their extrapolation into the physical pion mass region suggests a possible relationship to experimentally known states pi1(1400) and pi1(1600), and also to a state in the 2 GeV region carrying the same quantum numbers.
Heavy-light meson system is investigated using the relativistic heavy quark action on the 2+1 dynamical flavor PACS-CS configurations at the lattice spacing $a^{-1}=2.2$ GeV and the spatial extent L=3 fm. Dynamical up-down and strange quark masses as well as the valence charm quark mass are set around their physical values. We measure the charm-$ud$ and charm-strange meson masses and decay constants. Our results are consistent with the experimental values except the hyperfine splitting of the charm-strange meson. We also estimate the CKM matrix elements in the second row.
We report on our study of the D meson semileptonic decays in 2+1 flavor lattice QCD. Gauge ensembles are generated at three lattice cutoffs up to 4.5 GeV and with pion masses as low as 300 MeV. We employ the Moebius domain-wall fermion action for both light and charm quarks. We report our preliminary results for the vector and scalar form factors and discuss their dependence on the momentum transfer, quark masses and lattice spacing.
The energies of different angular momentum states of a heavy-light meson were measured on a lattice in PRD 58, 34506 (1998) . We have now continued this study using several different lattices, quenched and unquenched, that have different physical lattice sizes, clover coefficients, hopping parameters and quark-gluon couplings. The heavy quark is taken to be infinitely heavy, whereas the light quark mass is approximately that of the strange quark. By interpolating in the heavy and light quark masses we can thus compare the lattice results with the B_s meson. Most interesting is the lowest P-wav…
We discuss the computation of the kaon and D meson masses in the N_f = 2+1+1 twisted mass lattice QCD setup, where explicit heavy flavor and parity breaking occurs at finite lattice spacing. We present three methods suitable in this context and verify their consistency.
Calculation of the eta-prime meson mass is a notoriously difficult problem, as it requires evaluation of the disconnected diagram which is costly and noisy. In this work, we use a gluonic operator to extract the eta-prime state after smearing the link variables through the Wilson flow. With this choice, one can avoid a large cancellation of pion contribution between the connected and disconnected diagrams. We obtain the eta-prime meson mass on lattices with three different lattice spacings and two physical volumes, which allow us to estimate its continuum and large volume limits.
Numerical simulations with access to all possible meson quantum numbers, J^{PC}, are presented using two-flavor (up and down) quenched twisted mass lattice QCD with three different lattice spacings and four different quark masses. The connection between the quantum numbers (P and C) and the symmetries of the twisted mass action are discussed, as is the connection between J and the lattice rotation group, for the 400 operators used in this study. Curve fitting of this large data set is accomplished by using an evolutionary fitting algorithm. Results are reported for conventional and exotic quan…
We study the possibility that the scalar mesons exist as four-quark states. The energy shift of two pseudoscalar mesons as a function of spatial lattice size makes a distinction between bound states and scattering states of four-quark states. We calculate the four-quark state in the quenched approximation, ignoring the two-quark annihilation diagrams and the vacuum channels. We perform a calculation of pseudoscalar meson scattering amplitudes, using N_f=2 Wilson fermion and plaquette/Iwasaki gauge actions. We obtain the indication that the four-quark states in the case of the isospin zero (I=0…
Heavy-light mesons can be studied using the 1/M expansion of NRQCD, provided the heavy quark mass is sufficiently large. Calculations of the S-wave charmed meson masses from a classically and tadpole-improved action are presented. A comparison of O(1/M), O(1/M^2) and O(1/M^3) results allows convergence of the expansion to be discussed. It is shown that the form of discretized heavy quark propagation must be chosen carefully.
