We present preliminary results of the calculation of the positive-parity ground state charm baryon spectrum using of N_f=2+1+1$ dynamical quarks. The calculation uses a relativistic heavy-quark action for the valence charm quark, clover-Wilson fermions for the valence light quarks and HISQ sea quarks. The spectrum is calculated with a lightest pion mass around 220 MeV and two lattice spacings ($a\sim0.12$ fm and 0.09 fm) are used to extrapolate to continuum limit. Our preliminary results are consistent with the currently measured baryon spectrum, except for the isospin-averaged $J=1/2$ $Ξ_{cc}$ which is approximately $2 σ$ above the SELEX observed value. We predict the yet-to-be-discovered double and triple-charm baryons $Ξ_{cc}^*$, $Ω_{cc}$, $Ω_{cc}^*$, $Ω_{ccc}$ to have masses 3665(42)(29) MeV, 3694(40)(45) MeV, 3739(35)(21) MeV and 4782(24)(28) MeV, respectively.
In recent years, several charmed baryons have been discovered, with more states likely to be found in the future. We investigate the spectra of singly and doubly charmed baryons on the lattice. The spin J=1/2 and J=3/2 states are calculated for both positive and negative parity.
We investigate the charmed baryon mass spectrum using the relativistic heavy quark action on 2+1 flavor PACS-CS configurations previously generated on $32^3 \times 64$ lattice. The dynamical up-down and strange quark masses are set to the physical values by using the technique of reweighting to shift the quark hopping parameters from the values employed in the configuration generation. At the physical point, the lattice spacing equals $a^{-1}=2.194(10)$ GeV and the spatial extent $L=2.88(1)$ fm. Our results for the charmed baryon masses are consistent with experiments except for $Ξ_{cc}$, whic…
We investigate the charmed baryon mass spectrum using the relativistic heavy quark action on 2+1 flavor PACS-CS configurations previously generated on $32^3 \times 64$ lattice. The dynamical up-down and strange quark masses are tuned to their physical values, reweighted from those employed in the configuration generation. At the physical point, the inverse lattice spacing determined from the $Ω$ baryon mass gives $a^{-1}=2.194(10)$ GeV, and thus the spatial extent becomes $L = 32 a = 2.88(1)$ fm. Our results for the charmed baryon masses are consistent with experimental values, except for the …
We compute the mass spectrum for strange/charmed baryons in the partially quenched approach using N_f=2 twisted mass QCD configurations. We investigate two main issues: the size of lattice artefacts using three values of the lattice spacing (the smallest of which is approximately 0.05 fm) and the dependence of baryon masses on meson (or quark) masses. We thus perform a global fit in order to extrapolate simultaneously to the continuum limit and to the physical point. We estimate the masses of Omega_{sss}, Xi_{dss}, Lambda_{uds}, Omega_{ccc}, Xi_{dcc}, Lambda_{udc}.

Hadron masses are calculated in quenched lattice QCD with a fermion action of the D234 type on an anisotropic lattice. Hyperfine splittings for singly charmed baryons are found to be in agreement with expectations from the quark model and with a magnitude slightly larger than experimental values. Masses of doubly charmed baryons are also calculated and compared to a variety of model calculations. Hyperfine splittings in doubly charmed baryons are found to be slightly smaller than in singly charmed states.
We discuss the significance of charm baryon spectroscopy in hadron physics and review the recent developments of the spectra of charmed baryons in lattice calculations. Special emphasis is given on the recent studies of highly excited charm baryon states. Recent precision lattice measurements of the low lying charm and bottom baryons are also reviewed.
As a continuation of our recent work on the electromagnetic properties of the doubly charmed $Ξ_{cc}$ baryon, we compute the charge radii and the magnetic moments of the singly charmed $Σ_c$, $Ω_c$ and the doubly charmed $Ω_{cc}$ baryons in 2+1 flavor Lattice QCD. In general, the charmed baryons are found to be compact as compared to the proton. The charm quark acts to decrease the size of the baryons to smaller values. We discuss the mechanism behind the dependence of the charge radii on the light valence- and sea-quark masses. The magnetic moments are found to be almost stable with respect t…
We present the energy spectra of the low lying doubly-charmed baryons using lattice quantum chromodynamics. We precisely predict the ground state mass of the charmed-strange Omega(cc) (1/2+) baryon to be 3712(11)(12) MeV which could well be the next doubly-charmed baryon to be discovered at the LHCb experiment at CERN. We also predict masses of other doubly-charmed strange baryons with quantum numbers 3/2+, 1/2-, and 3/2-.
This is basically the update of [arXiv:0809.1869], a review on charmed baryon physics around 2007. Topics of this review include the spectroscopy, strong decays, lifetimes, nonleptonic and semileptonic weak decays, and electromagnetic decays of charmed baryons.
Masses of singly and doubly charmed baryons are calculated in quenched lattice QCD using an improved action of the D234 type on an anisotropic lattice. The mass differences between spin 3/2 and spin 1/2 baryon states are calculated and compared to mass differences between vector and pseudoscalar mesons. The suppression of spin splittings in mesons containing heavy quarks, characteristic of quenched QCD simulations, is not observed in the baryon sector. The mass dependence of color hyperfine effects is discussed within the context of the quark model and heavy quark effective theory.
We present results for masses of spin-1/2 and spin-3/2 double-charm baryons in quenched lattice QCD, from an exploratory study using a non-perturbatively improved clover action at beta=6.2. We have studied local operators and we observe, after appropriate projections, a good signal for the ground states. We also present results for single-charmed baryons and spin-splittings for both double- and single-charmed states.
Recent experimental advances have reignited theoretical interests in heavy-flavor hadrons. In this work, we study the magnetic moments of the spin-1/2 singly charmed baryons up to the next-to-leading order in covariant baryon chiral perturbation theory with the extended-on-mass-shell renormalization scheme. The pertinent low energy constants $g_{1-4}$ are fixed with the help of the quark model and the heavy quark spin flavor symmetry, while the remaining $d_2$, $d_3$, $d_5$ and $d_6$ are determined by fitting to the lattice QCD pion-mass dependent data. We study the magnetic moments as a funct…
Until now, the first reported doubly charmed baryon $Ξ_{cc}^{+}(3520)$ is still a puzzle. It was discovered and confirmed by SELEX collaboration, but not confirmed by LHCb, BABAR, BELLE, FOCUS, or any other collaboration. In the present paper, by employing Regge phenomenology, we first express the mass of the ground state ($L$=0) doubly charmed baryon $Ω_{cc}^{*+}$ as a function of masses of the well established light baryons and singly charmed baryons. Inserting the recent experimental data, the mass of $Ω_{cc}^{*+}$ is given to be 3809$\pm$36 MeV, which is independent of any unobservable par…
We calculate the low-lying spectrum of charmed baryons in lattice QCD on the $32^3\times64$, $N_f=2+1$ PACS-CS gauge configurations at the almost physical pion mass of $\sim 156$ MeV/c$^2$. By employing a set of interpolating operators with different Dirac structures and quark-field smearings for the variational analysis, we extract the ground and first few excited states of the spin-$1/2$ and spin-$3/2$, singly-, doubly-, and triply-charmed baryons. Additionally, we study the $Ξ_c$-$Ξ_c^\prime$ mixing and the operator dependence of the excited states in a variational approach. We identify sev…
We study decay properties of the $P$-wave charmed baryons using the method of light-cone QCD sum rules, including the $S$-wave decays of the flavor $\mathbf{\bar 3}_F$ $P$-wave charmed baryons into ground-state charmed baryons accompanied by a pseudoscalar meson ($π$ or $K$) or a vector meson ($ρ$ or $K^*$), and the $S$-wave decays of the flavor $\mathbf{6}_F$ $P$-wave charmed baryons into ground-state charmed baryons accompanied by a pseudoscalar meson ($π$ or $K$). We study both two-body and three-body decays which are kinematically allowed. We find two mixing solutions from internal $ρ$- an…
We discuss the status of current dynamical lattice QCD simulations in connection to the emerging results on the strange and charmed baryon spectrum, excited states of the nucleon and the investigation of the structure of scalar mesons.
Inspired by the recent discovery of the $Ξ_{cc}^{++}$ by the LHCb Collaboration, we study the magnetic moments of the spin-1/2 doubly charmed baryons up to the next-to-leading order in covariant baryon chiral perturbation theory with the extended-on-mass-shell renormalization scheme. There are three low energy constants at this order, $a_1$, $a_2$ and $g_a$. The latest lattice QCD simulations allow us to fix a combination of $a_1$ and $a_2$, while the axial-vector coupling $g_a$ can be determined in three different ways, either by fitting to the lattice QCD data, or by the quark model, or by t…
We compute the electromagnetic properties of Ξ_cc baryons in 2+1 flavor Lattice QCD. By measuring the electric charge and magnetic form factors of Ξ_cc baryons, we extract the magnetic moments, charge and magnetic radii as well as the Ξ_cc Ξ_cc ρcoupling constant, which provide important information to understand the size, shape and couplings of the doubly charmed baryons. We find that the two heavy charm quarks drive the charge radii and the magnetic moment of Ξ_cc to smaller values as compared to those of, e.g., the proton.
The mass spectrum of charmed and bottom baryons has been computed on anisotropic lattices using quenched lattice nonrelativistic QCD. Masses are extracted by using mass splittings which are more accurate than masses obtained directly by using the nonrelativistic mass-energy relation. Of particular interest are the mass splittings between spin-1/2 and spin-3/2 heavy baryons, and we find that these color hyperfine effects are not suppressed in the baryon sector although they are known to be suppressed in the meson sector. Results are compared with those obtained in a previous NRQCD calculation a…
We have calculated the scattering lengths between the pseudoscalar meson and charmed triplet, sextet, and excited sextet baryon to the third order with the heavy baryon chiral perturbation theory. The chiral expansion of the pion channels converges well.
We systematically investigate the possible molecular states composed of (1) two spin-$\frac{3}{2}$ doubly charmed baryons, and (2) a pair of spin-$\frac{3}{2}$ and spin-$\frac{1}{2}$ doubly charmed baryons. The one-boson-exchange (OBE) model is used to describe the potential between two baryons. The channel mixing effect is considered for the systems with the same quantum number $(I(J^P))$ but different total spin ($S$) and orbital angular momenta ($L$). We also study the channel mixing effect among the systems composed of various doubly charmed baryons if they have the same quantum number. Ma…
We study the scattering of the light-flavor pseudoscalar mesons ($π, K, η$) off the ground-state charmed mesons ($D,D_s$) within chiral effective field theory. The recent lattice simulation results on various scattering lengths and the finite-volume spectra both in the moving and center-of-mass frames, most of which are obtained at unphysical meson masses, are used to constrain the free parameters in our theory. Explicit formulas to include the $S$- and $P$-wave mixing to determine the finite-volume energy levels are provided. After a successful reproduction of the lattice data, we perform a c…
In this work, we investigate the mass corrections of the doubly charmed baryons up to $N^2LO$ in the extended-on-mass-shell (EOMS) renormalization scheme, comparing with the results of heavy baryon chiral perturbation theory. We find that the terms from the heavy baryon approach are a subset of those obtained in the EOMS scheme. By fitting the lattice data, we can determine the parameters $\tilde{m}$, $α$, $c_1$ and $c_7$ from the Lagrangian, while in the heavy baryon approach no information on $c_1$ can be obtained from the baryons mass. Correspondingly, the masses of $m_{Ξ_{cc}}$ and $m_{Ω_{…
Inspired by the discovery of the spin-$\frac{1}{2}$ doubly charmed baryon $Ξ_{cc}^{++}$ and the subsequent theoretical studies of its magnetic moments, we study the magnetic moments of its spin-$\frac{3}{2}$ heavy quark spin symmetry counterparts, up to the next-to-leading order in covariant baryon chiral perturbation theory (BChPT) with the extended-on-mass-shell renormalization (EOMS) scheme. With the tree-level contributions fixed by the quark model while the two low energy constants (LECs) $C$ and $H$ controlling the loop contributions determined in two ways: the quark model (case 1) and l…
We investigate the possible deuteron-like molecules composed of a pair of charmed spin-$\frac{3}{2}$ baryons, or one charmed baryon and one charmed antibaryon within the one-boson-exchange (OBE) model. For the spin singlet and triplet systems, we consider the couple channel effect between systems with different orbital angular momentum. Most of the systems have binding solutions. The couple channel effect plays a significant role in the formation of some loosely bound states. The possible molecular states of $Ω_c^*Ω_c^*$ and $Ω_c^*\barΩ_c^*$ might be stable once produced.
The spectrum of excitations of triply-charmed baryons is computed using lattice QCD including dynamical light quark fields. Calculations are performed on anisotropic lattices with temporal and spatial spacings a_t = 0.0351(2) and a_s ~ 0.12 fm respectively and with pion mass of about 390 MeV. The spectrum obtained has baryonic states with well-defined total spin up to 7/2 and the low-lying states closely resemble the expectation from models with an SU(6)X O(3) symmetry. Energy splittings between extracted states, including those due to spin-orbit coupling in the heavy quark limit are computed …
We study the light quark-mass dependence of charmed baryon masses as measured by various QCD lattice collaborations. A global fit to such data based on the chiral SU(3) Lagrangian is reported on. All low-energy constants that are relevant at next-to-next-to-next-to-leading order (N$^3$LO) are determined from the lattice data sets where constraints from sum rules as they follow from large-Nc QCD at subleading order are considered. The expected hierarchy for the low-energy constants in the 1/Nc expansion is confirmed by our global fits to the lattice data. With our results the low-energy interac…
We systematically study the $S$-wave doubly charmed baryons using the method of QCD sum rules. Our results suggest that the $Ξ_{cc}^{++}$ recently observed by LHCb can be well identified as the $S$-wave $Ξ_{cc}$ state of $J^P = 1/2^+$. We study its relevant $Ω_{cc}$ state, whose mass is predicted to be around 3.7 GeV. We also systematically study the $P$-wave doubly charmed baryons, whose masses are predicted to be around 4.1 GeV. Especially, there can be several excited doubly charmed baryons in this energy region, and we suggest to search for them in order to study the fine structure of the …
We report on the calculation of the CP-violating form factor $F_3$ and the corresponding electric dipole moment for charmed baryons in the spin-1/2 sector generated by the QCD $θ$-term. We work in the framework of covariant baryon chiral perturbation theory within the extended-on-mass-shell renormalization scheme up to next-to-leading order in the chiral expansion.
In this work we study the possible QCD exotic states in the doubly charmed baryon sector. Within chiral effective theory, it is predicted that several excited baryons result from the $S$-wave scattering of ground-state doubly charmed baryons ($Ξ_{cc}^{++}, Ξ_{cc}^{+}, Ω_{cc}^{+}$) and light pseudoscalar mesons ($π, K, η$). The excited doubly charmed baryons can be classified by the strangeness ($S$) and isospin ($I$) quantum numbers. Two of the excited states are clearly exotic, in the sense that they cannot be explained by the conventional baryons with three quarks, since their quantum number…
We present the ground and excited state spectra of singly, doubly and triply-charmed baryons by using dynamical lattice QCD. A large set of baryonic operators that respect the symmetries of the lattice and are obtained after subduction from their continuum analogues are utilized. These operators transform as irreducible representations of SU(3)$_F$ symmetry for flavour, SU(4) symmetry for Dirac spins of quarks and O(3) symmetry for orbital angular momenta. Using novel computational techniques correlation functions of these operators are generated and the variational method is exploited to extr…

We study the electromagnetic form factors of the doubly charmed baryons, using covariant chiral perturbation theory within the extended on-mass-shell (EOMS) scheme. Vector-meson contributions are also taken into account. We present results for the baryon magnetic moments, charge and magnetic radii. While some of the chiral Lagrangian parameters could be set to values determined in previous works, the available lattice results for $Ξ_{cc}^+$ and $Ω_{cc}^+$ only allow for robust constraints on the low-energy constant (LEC) combination, $c_{89}(=-\frac{1}{3}c_8+4c_9)$. The couplings of the doubly…
We systematically derive the analytical expressions of the magnetic moments of the spin-$1\over 2$ singly charmed baryons to the next-to-next-to-leading order in the heavy baryon chiral perturbation theory (HBChPT). We discuss the analytical relations between the magnetic moments. We estimate the-low energy constants (LECs) in two scenarios. In the first scenario, we use the quark model and Lattice QCD simulation results as input. In the second scenario, the heavy quark symmetry is adopted to reduce the number of the independent LECs, which are then fitted using the data from the Lattice QCD s…
We consider the chiral Lagrangian for charmed baryon fields with $J^P =\frac{1}{2}^+$ or $J^P =\frac{3}{2}^+$ quantum numbers. A chiral expansion framework for the baryon ground state masses is worked out to N$^3$LO as to compute their dependence on the up, down and strange quark masses for finite box QCD lattice simulations. It is formulated in terms of on-shell meson and baryon masses. The convergence of such a scheme is illustrated with physical masses as taken from the PDG. The counter terms relevant at N$^3$LO are correlated systematically by large-$N_c$ sum rules to leading and subleadin…
We extend the two-flavor hard-wall holographic model of Erlich, Katz, Son and Stephanov [Phys.\ Rev.\ Lett.\ {\bf 95}, 261602 (2005)] to four flavors to incorporate strange and charm quarks. The model incorporates chiral and flavor symmetry breaking and provides a reasonable description of masses and weak decay constants of a variety of scalar, pseudoscalar, vector and axial-vector strange and charmed mesons. In particular, we examine flavor symmetry breaking in the strong couplings of the $ρ$ meson to the charmed $D$ and $D^{*}$ mesons. We also compute electromagnetic form factors of the $π$,…
We have investigated the electromagnetic decays of the antitriplet and sextet charmed baryon systems with $J^P= \frac{1}{2}^+, \frac{3}{2}^+$ in the framework of the heavy baryon chiral perturbation theory. We first construct the chiral Lagrangians at $O(p^2)$ and $O(p^3)$. Then we calculate the electromagnetic (EM) decay amplitudes of the charmed baryon systems up to $O(p^3)$. With the help of the quark model, we estimate the low energy constants. The numerical results of the EM decay widths show good convergence of the chiral expansion. We notice that the two neutral EM decay processes $Ξ_c'…
We present results for the $σ$-terms and axial charges for various hyperons and charmed baryons using $N_f=2+1+1$ twisted mass fermions. For the computation of the three-point function we use the fixed current method. For one of the $N_f=2+1+1$ ensembles with pion mass of 373 MeV we compare the results of the fixed current method with those obtained with a stochastic method for computing the all-to-all propagator involved in the evaluation of the three point functions.
We have systematically investigated the spin-$\frac{3}{2}$ to spin-$\frac{1}{2}$ doubly charmed baryon transition magnetic moments to the next-to-next-to-leading order in the heavy baryon chiral perturbation theory (HBChPT). Numerical results of transition magnetic moments and decay widths are presented to the next-to-leading order: $μ_{Ξ_{cc}^{*++}\rightarrowΞ_{cc}^{++}}=-2.35μ_{N}$, $μ_{Ξ_{cc}^{*+}\rightarrowΞ_{cc}^{+}}=1.55μ_{N}$, $μ_{Ω_{cc}^{*+}\rightarrowΩ_{cc}^{+}}=1.54μ_{N}$, $Γ_{Ξ_{cc}^{*++}\rightarrowΞ_{cc}^{++}}=22.0$ keV, $Γ_{Ξ_{cc}^{*+}\rightarrowΞ_{cc}^{+}}=9.57$ keV, $Γ_{Ω_{cc}^{…
We present the ground and excited state spectra of doubly charmed baryons from lattice QCD with dynamical quark fields. Calculations are performed on anisotropic lattices of size 16^3 X 128, with inverse spacing in temporal direction 1/a_t = 5.67(4) GeV and with a pion mass of about 390 MeV. A large set of baryonic operators that respect the symmetries of the lattice yet which retain a memory of their continuum analogues are used. These operators transform as irreducible representations of SU(3) symmetry for flavor, SU(4) symmetry for Dirac spins of quarks and O(3) for spatial symmetry. The di…
We present preliminary results on the light, charmed and bottom baryon spectra using overlap valence quarks on the background of 2+1+1 flavours HISQ gauge configurations of the MILC collaboration. These calculations are performed on three different gauge ensembles at three lattice spacings (a ~ 0.12 fm, 0.09 fm and 0.06 fm) and for physical strange, charm and bottom quark masses. The SU(2) heavy baryon chiral perturbation theory is used to extrapolate baryon masses to the physical pion mass and the continuum limit extrapolations are also performed. Our results are consistent with the well meas…
The discovery of $Ξ_{cc}^{++}$ by the LHCb Collaboration triggers predictions of more doubly charmed baryons. By taking into account both the $P$-wave excitations between the two charm quarks and the scattering of light pseudoscalar mesons off the ground state doubly charmed baryons, a set of negative-parity spin-1/2 doubly charmed baryons are predicted already from a unitarized version of leading order chiral perturbation theory. Moreover, employing heavy antiquark-diquark symmetry the relevant low-energy constants in the next-to-leading order are connected with those describing light pseudos…
The chiral corrections to the magnetic moments of the spin-$\frac{1}{2}$ doubly charmed baryons are systematically investigated up to next-to-next-to-leading order with heavy baryon chiral perturbation theory (HBChPT). The numerical results are calculated up to next-to-leading order: $μ_{Ξ^{++}_{cc}}=-0.25μ_{N}$, $μ_{Ξ^{+}_{cc}}=0.85μ_{N}$, $μ_{Ω^{+}_{cc}}=0.78μ_{N}$. We also calculate the magnetic moments of the other doubly heavy baryons, including the doubly bottomed baryons (bbq) and the doubly heavy baryons containing a light quark, a charm quark and a bottom quark ($\{bc\}q$ and $[bc]q$)…
