We present predictions of the unweighted and weighted double spin asymmetries related to the transversal helicity distribution $g_{1T}$ and the longitudinal transversity distribution $h_{1L}^\perp$, two of eight leading-twist transverse momentum dependent parton distributions (TMDs) or three-dimensional parton distribution functions (3dPDFs), in the polarized proton-antiproton Drell-Yan process at typical kinematics on the Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research (FAIR). We conclude that FAIR is ideal to access the new 3dPDFs towards a detailed picture of the nucleon structure.
We show that the polarized proton-antiproton Drell-Yan process is ideal to probe the pretzelosity distribution ($h_{1T}^\perp$), which is one of the new transverse-momentum-dependent parton distributions of the nucleon. We present predictions of the $\cos(2ϕ+ ϕ_a - ϕ_b)$ asymmetry in the transversely polarized proton-antiproton Drell-Yan process at PAX kinematics and find that the results are significantly larger compared with those of the $\sin(3ϕ_h - ϕ_S)$ asymmetry in the semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering process at HERMES, COMPASS, and JLab kinematics. We conclude that the $\cos(2ϕ+…
We present next-to-leading order predictions for double transverse-spin asymmetries in Drell--Yan dilepton production initiated by proton--antiproton scattering. The kinematic region of the proposed PAX experiment at GSI: $30\lesssim{s}\lesssim200\GeV^2$ and $2\lesssim{M}\lesssim7\GeV$ is examined. The Drell--Yan asymmetries turn out to be large, in the range 20--40%. Measuring these asymmetries would provide the cleanest determination of the quark transversity distributions.
Estimates are given for the double spin asymmetry in lepton-pair production from collisions of transversely polarized protons and antiprotons for the kinematics of the recently proposed PAX experiment at GSI on the basis of predictions for the transversity distribution from the chiral quark soliton model.
We perform a NLO numerical study of the double transverse-spin asymmetries in the $J/ψ$ resonance region for proton--antiproton collisions. We analyze the large $x$ kinematic region, relevant for the proposed PAX experiment at GSI, and discuss the implication of the results for the extraction of the transversity densities.
In this paper, we extend the study of Drell-Yan processes with antiproton beams already presented in a previous work. We consider the fully polarized $\bar{p}^\uparrow p^\uparrow \to μ^+ μ^- X$ process, because this is the simplest scenario for extracting the transverse spin distribution of quarks, or transversity, which is the missing piece to complete the knowledge of the nucleon spin structure at leading twist. We perform Monte Carlo simulations for transversely polarized antiproton and proton beams colliding at a center-of-mass energy of interest for the future HESR at GSI. The goal is to …
I study hard collisions between unpolarized protons and antiprotons where a lepton-antilepton pair is detected in coincidence with a final proton-antiproton pair, and no more particles are produced, in the regime 10 GeV^2 << s << 1000 GeV^2, M > 4 GeV, q_T < 3 GeV/c. The present work is centered on azimuthal asymmetries. Because of momentum conservation, a Boer-Mulders term in the momentum distribution of a quark implies a balancing effect in the momentum distribution of some spectators. This produces azimuthal asymmetries of the final hadrons. To analyze this, I have organized a parton-level …
The complete knowledge of the nucleon spin structure at leading twist requires also addressing the transverse spin distribution of quarks, or transversity, which is yet unexplored because of its chiral-odd nature. Transversity can be best extracted from single-spin asymmetries in fully polarized Drell-Yan processes with antiprotons, where valence contributions are involved anyway. Alternatively, in single-polarized Drell-Yan the transversity happens convoluted with another chiral-odd function, which is likely to be responsible for the well known (and yet unexplained) violation of the Lam-Tung …
We investigate Drell-Yan pair production in a QCD inspired model, which takes into account all relevant hard processes up to $O(α_s)$. To address the known shortfalls of such a fixed order calculation we introduce phenomenological parton distributions for initial transverse momentum and quark mass, and devise a subtraction scheme to avoid double-counting when utilizing the standard longitudinal parton distribution functions. We show that we can reproduce Drell-Yan transverse momentum and invariant mass spectra from different proton-proton, proton-nucleus and antiproton-nucleus experiments and …
Taking into account the effect of final state interaction, we calculate the non-zero (naïve) $T$-odd transverse momentum dependent distribution $h_1^{\perp}(x,\kp^2)$ of the pion in a quark-spectator-antiquark model with effective pion-quark-antiquark coupling as a dipole form factor. Using the model result we estimate the $\cos 2ϕ$ asymmetries in the unpolarized $π^- N$ Drell-Yan process which can be expressed as $h_1^{\perp}\times\bar{h}_1^{\perp}$. We find that the resulting $h_{1π}^\p(x,\kp^2)$ has the advantage to reproduce the asymmetry that agrees with the experimental data measured by …
At leading twist the transverse-momentum dependent parton distributions of the pion consist of two functions, the unpolarized $f_{1,π}(x,\boldsymbol k^{\, 2}_\perp)$ and the Boer-Mulders function $h_{1,π}^{\perp}(x,\boldsymbol k^{\, 2}_\perp)$. We study both functions within a light-front constituent model of the pion, comparing the results with different pion models and the corresponding nucleon distributions from a light-front constituent model. After evolution from the model scale to the relevant experimental scales, the results for the collinear pion valence parton distribution function $f…
The nuclear $p_\perp$-broadening of Drell-Yan and quarkonium ($J/ψ$, $Υ$) production in $π$A and pA collisions is investigated. The world data follow a simple scaling from SPS to LHC energies, once the process-dependent color factors are properly taken into account, which allows for the extraction of the transport coefficient in cold nuclear matter. We find that $\hat{q}(x)\propto x^{-α}$ with $α=0.25$-$0.30$. The magnitude of the transport coefficient at $x=10^{-2}$ is $\hat{q}_0=0.051$ GeV$^2$/fm and $\hat{q}_0=0.075$ GeV$^2$/fm, whether $Q\bar{Q}$ pairs are assumed to be produced as color o…
Estimates are given for the double spin asymmetry in lepton-pair production from collisions of transversely polarized protons and antiprotons for the kinematics of the recently proposed PAX experiment at GSI on the basis of predictions for the transversity distribution from the probabilistic quark-parton model developed earlier.
We show that initial-state interactions contribute to the $\cos 2 ϕ$ distribution in unpolarized Drell-Yan lepton pair production $p p$ and $ p \bar p \to \ell^+ \ell^- X$, without suppression. The asymmetry is expressed as a product of chiral-odd distributions $h_1^\perp(x_1,\bm{p}_\perp^2)\times \bar h_1^\perp(x_2,\bm{k}_\perp^2) $, where the quark-transversity function $h_1^\perp(x,\bm{p}_\perp^2)$ is the transverse momentum dependent, light-cone momentum distribution of transversely polarized quarks in an {\it unpolarized} proton. We compute this (naive) $T$-odd and chiral-odd distribution…
We report a measurement of the angular distributions of Drell-Yan dimuons produced using an 800 GeV/c proton beam on a deuterium target. The muon angular distributions in polar angle $θ$ and azimuthal angle $ϕ$ have been measured over the kinematic range $4.5 < m_{μμ} < 15$ GeV/c$^2$, $0 < p_T < 4 $ GeV/c, and $0 < x_F < 0.8$. No significant cos$2ϕ$ dependence is found in these proton-induced Drell-Yan data, in contrast to the situation for pion-induced Drell-Yan. The data are compared with expectations from models which attribute the cos$2ϕ$ distribution to a QCD vacuum effect or to the prese…
We study the azimuthal asymmetry in the Drell-Yan lepton pair production in hadronic scattering processes at moderate transverse momentum region, taking into account the contributions from the twist-three quark-gluon correlations from the unpolarized hadrons. The contributions are found to dominate the asymmetry, and are not power suppressed by q_\perp/Q at small q_\perp where q_\perp and Q are the transverse momentum and invariant mass of the lepton pair. Accordingly, the Lam-Tung relation will be violated at this momentum region, and its violation depends on the twist-three functions. Howeve…
We show that measuring the $\cos 2ϕ$ angular dependence in unpolarized Drell-Yan processes with $π^-$ beams colliding on proton and deuteron targets can determine the ratio of the Boer-Mulders functions for $d$ and $u$ quarks inside the proton $h_1^{\perp,d}/h_1^{\perp,u}$, which is still lack of theoretical constraint. The comparison of the $\cos 2 ϕ$ asymmetries measured in unpolarized $π^- p$ and $π^- D$ Drell-Yan processes, which are accessible at CERN by the COMPASS collaboration, can help to discriminate whether $h_1^\perp$ effects or QCD vacuum effects are preferred by data.
The unpolarized, helicity and transversity distributions of quarks in the proton are calculated in the overlap representation of light-cone wavefunctions truncated to the lowest order Fock-space components with three valence quarks. The three distributions at the hadronic scale satisfy an interesting relation consistent with the Soffer inequality. Results are derived in a relativistic quark model including radiative corrections up to the next-to-leading order. Predictions for the double transverse-spin asymmetry in Drell-Yan dilepton production initiated by proton-antiproton collisions are pre…
We study the azimuthal asymmetry of the unpolarized Drell-Yan in the framework of the T-odd functions. We find, on the basis of quite general arguments, that for |{\bf q}_{\perp}| << Q such an asymmetry decreases as Q^{-2}, where {\bf q}_{\perp} and Q are respectively the transverse momentum and the center-of-mass energy of the muon pair. The experimental results support this conclusion.
We calculate the non-zero (naïve) T-odd transverse momentum dependent transversity distribution $h_1^{\perp}(x,\kp^2)$ of the pion in a quark-spectator-antiquark model. The final-state interaction is modelled by the approximation of one gluon exchange between the quark and the antiquark spectator. Using our model result we estimate the unsuppressed cos2$ϕ$ azimuthal asymmetry in unpolarized $π^-p$ Drell-Yan process. We find that the transverse momentum dependence of $h_1^{\perp}(x,\kp^2)$ of the pion is the same as that of $h_1^{\perp}(x,\kp^2)$ of the proton calculated from the quark-scalar-d…
We calculate the transverse momentum Q_{\perp} dependence of the helicity structure functions for the hadroproduction of a massive pair of leptons with pair invariant mass Q. These structure functions determine the angular distribution of the leptons in the pair rest frame. Unphysical behavior in the region Q_{\perp} --> 0 is seen in the results of calculations done at fixed-order in QCD perturbation theory. We use current conservation to demonstrate that the unphysical inverse-power and \ln(Q/Q_{\perp}) logarithmic divergences in three of the four independent helicity structure functions shar…
The Drell-Yan hadronic tensor for electromagnetic (EM) current is calculated in the Sudakov region $s\gg Q^2\gg q_\perp^2$ with ${1\over Q^2}$ accuracy, first at the tree level and then with the double-log accuracy. It is demonstrated that in the leading order in $N_c$ the higher-twist quark-quark-gluon TMDs reduce to leading-twist TMDs due to QCD equation of motion. The resulting tensor for unpolarized hadrons is EM gauge-invariant and depends on two leading-twist TMDs: $f_1$ responsible for total DY cross section, and Boer-Mulders function $h_1^\perp$. The order-of-magnitude estimates of ang…
We have predicted the difference in inclusive cross sections on pseudorapidity in ${\rm d}σ^{p\bar{p}}/{\rm d}η$ and ${\rm d}σ^{pp}/{\rm d}η$ interactions at $\sqrt{s}=900$~GeV. Their ratio $R=\left({\rm d}σ^{p\bar{p}}/{\rm d}η\right)\left/\left({\rm d}σ^{pp}/{\rm d}η\right)\right.>1$ in the whole pseudorapidity range. On the basis of AGK theorem we show that the ratio of inclusive cross sections of $pp$ and $p\bar{p}$ at $\sqrt{s}=900$~GeV in the region of low transverse momenta $p_\perp$ up to 2~GeV $\left(\frac{1}{2πp_\perp}\frac{{\rm d}^2σ^{p\bar{p}}}{{\rm d}η{\rm d}p_\perp}\right)\left/\l…
A new version of a Monte Carlo Program for hadronic multi-particle production is presented. It is based on the two-component Dual Parton Model which includes the dual topological unitarization of soft and hard cross sections. The model treats both soft (low $p_{\perp}$) and hard (minijet, large $p_{\perp}$) processes in a unified and consistent way. The unified description is important at TeV-energies of hadron colliders, where the hard perturbative cross sections of QCD become large and comparable to the total cross sections.
We study the single-transverse spin asymmetry for the Drell-Yan process. We consider production of the lepton pair at large transverse momentum, $q_\perp\sim Q$, where $Q$ is the pair's mass. The spin asymmetry is then of higher twist and may be generated by twist-three quark-gluon correlation functions. Expanding the result for $q_\perp\ll Q$, we make contact with the transverse-momentum-dependent QCD factorization involving the so-called Sivers functions. We find that the two mechanisms, quark-gluon correlations on one hand and the Sivers effect on the other, contain the same physics in this…
We perform numerical simulations of the Sivers effect from single spin asymmetries in Drell-Yan processes on transversely polarized protons. We consider colliding antiprotons and pions at different kinematic conditions of interest for the future planned experiments. We conventionally name "framework I" the results obtained when properly accounting for the various flavor dependent polarized valence contributions in the numerator of the asymmetry, and for the unpolarized nonvalence contribution in its denominator. We name "framework II" the results obtained when taking a suitable flavor average …
We present a decomposition of the hadronic tensor for a general polarized Drell-Yan process AB --> l^+ l^- X in terms of helicity structure functions using the helicity axes of the dilepton rest frame as a basis. Next, we consider a QCD parton model and in the framework of a generalized QCD factorization scheme, which applies when the dilepton invariant mass M is much larger than the transverse component of the photon momentum, q_T, in the hadronic center of mass frame. In this approximation we compute the angular distribution of the unpolarized Drell Yan cross section and of the Sivers effect…
We show that the transverse double spin asymmetry (DSA) in the Drell-Yan process contributed only from the Sivers functions can be picked out by the weighting function $\frac{Q_T}{M^2}(\cos(ϕ-ϕ_{S_1})\cos(ϕ-ϕ_{S_2})+3\sin(ϕ-ϕ_{S_1})\sin(ϕ-ϕ_{S_2}))$. The asymmetry is proportional to the product of two Sivers functions from each hadron $f_{1T}^{\perp(1)}\times f_{1T}^{\perp (1)}$. Using two sets of Sivers functions extracted from the semi-inclusive deeply elastic scattering data at HERMES, we estimate this asymmetry in the $p^\uparrow\bar{p}^\uparrow$ Drell-Yan process which is possible to be p…
We present the Monte Carlo event generator WINHAC for Drell-Yan processes in proton-proton, proton-antiproton, proton-ion and ion-ion collisions. It features multiphoton radiation within the Yennie-Frautschi-Suura exclusive exponentiation scheme with O(alpha) electroweak corrections for the charged-current (W+/W-) processes and multiphoton radiation generated by PHOTOS for neutral-current (Z+gamma) ones. For the initial-state QCD/QED parton shower and hadronisation it is interfaced with PYTHIA. It includes several options, e.g. for the polarized W-boson production, generation of weighted/unwei…
We present a phenomenological analysis of the $q_{\mathrm{T}}$-weighted transverse spin dependent azimuthal asymmetry recently measured by the COMPASS Collaboration in polarized pion-proton Drell-Yan process. In the kinematical regimes explored by experiments, we consider the leading-twist contributions from the Boer-Mulders distribution functions $h_{1}^{\perp}(x,k_{\mathrm{T}}^{2})$ of both the pion and the proton, the transversity distribution $h_{1}(x,k_{\mathrm{T}}^{2})$ and the pretzelosity distribution $h_{1\mathrm{T}}^{\perp}(x,k_{\mathrm{T}}^{2})$ of the proton, with the unpolarized t…
The longitudinal-transverse spin asymmetry A_{LT} in the polarized Drell-Yan process depends on the twist-3 spin-dependent distributions of nucleon. In addition to the contributions expressed as matrix element of the twist-3 operators, these distributions contain the so-called Wandzura-Wilczek part, which is completely determined by a certain integral of the twist-2 spin-dependent parton distributions. We demonstrate that the recently obtained empirical information on the transversity distribution allows a realistic estimate of the Wandzura-Wilczek contribution to A_{LT} for the case of polari…
It has recently been suggested that collisions of transversely polarized protons and antiprotons at the GSI could be used to determine the nucleon's transversity densities from measurements of the double-spin asymmetry for the Drell-Yan process. We analyze the role of higher-order perturbative QCD corrections in this kinematic regime, in terms of the available fixed-order contributions as well as of all-order soft-gluon resummations. We find that the combined perturbative corrections to the individual unpolarized and transversely polarized cross sections are large. We trace these large enhance…
Here a preliminary study is presented concerning the detection of the normally unseen Drell-Yan fragments, possible in the PANDA experiment. To work as a multi-purpose apparatus, this experiment will record all the particles produced in the collisions between the antiproton beam and the target, with a rather wide acceptance. So detecting Drell-Yan dileptons with or without analyzing the other fragments is just a matter of applying cutoffs in the data analysis stage. The distribution of the products of 50,000 typical Drell-Yan events is here simulateded using a well-known generator code (Pythia…
We calculate the two leading-twist transverse momentum dependent distribution functions of the pion meson, the unpolarized distribution $f_{1π}(x,\bm{k}^2_T)$ and the Boer-Mulders function $h_{1π}^\perp (x,\bm{k}^2_T)$, using the pion wave functions derived from a light-cone approach. The evolution effect of the first $\bm k_T$-moment of the pion Boer-Mulders function is studied by employing an approximate evolution kernel. Using the model resulting distributions, we predict the transverse momentum weighted $\cos2ϕ$ azimuthal asymmetry in the unpolarized $π^- p$ Drell-Yan process which can be …
The $p_{\perp}$-distribution for a dilepton production at the LHC with high luminosity is calculated in the Randall-Sundrum scenario with a small curvature $κ$. The widths of massive gravitons are taken into account. The discovery limits on 5-dimensional gravity scale $M_5$ are obtained to be 17.8 TeV and 21.6 TeV for $\sqrt{s} = 14$ TeV and integrated luminosities 1000 fb$^{-1}$ and 3000 fb$^{-1}$, respectively. Contrary to the standard RS model, these limits do not depend on parameter $κ$.
We discuss the Drell-Yan process at a measured transverse-momentum $Q_T$ of the produced lepton pair in collisions of transversely polarized protons and antiprotons, to be observed at the proposed spin experiments at GSI. The large logarithmic contributions from multiple soft gluon emission, accompanying the Drell-Yan mechanism at small $Q_T$, are resummed to all orders in QCD perturbation theory up to next-to-leading logarithmic (NLL) accuracy. Numerical evaluation shows the impact of the NLL as well as LL effect on the dilepton $Q_T$ spectra. For the corresponding $Q_T$-dependent spin asymme…
The Drell-Yan process is studied in the framework of TMD factorization in the Sudakov region $s\gg Q^2\gg q_\perp^2$ corresponding to recent LHC experiments with $Q^2$ of order of mass of Z-boson and transverse momentum of DY pair $\sim$ few tens GeV. The DY hadronic tensors are expressed in terms of quark and quark-gluon TMDs with ${1\over Q^2}$ and ${1\over N_c^2}$ accuracy. It is demonstrated that in the leading order in $N_c$ the higher-twist quark-quark-gluon TMDs reduce to leading-twist TMDs due to QCD equation of motion. The resulting hadronic tensors depend on two leading-twist TMDs: $…
Single spin asymmetries in polarized proton(antiproton) + proton -> pion + X have been measured to be large. They can be understood within perturbative QCD by introducing new k_perp and spin dependences in fragmentation and/or distribution functions. We discuss first how these effects in distribution functions alone can account for existing data and predict single spin asymmetries in other processes; then we see how similar effects in fragmentation functions alone can fit the existing data; finally we devise strategies to discriminate between the two contributions
We investigate the Sivers asymmetry in the pion-induced single polarized Drell-Yan process in the theoretical framework of the transverse momentum dependent factorization up to next-to-leading logarithmic order of QCD. Within the TMD evolution formalism of parton distribution functions, the recently extracted nonperturbative Sudakov form factor for the pion distribution functions as well as the one for the Sivers function of the proton are applied to numerically estimate the Sivers asymmetry in the $π^- p$ Drell-Yan at the kinematics of the COMPASS at CERN. In the low $b$ region, the Sivers fu…
We investigate the single transverse-spin asymmetry with a $\sin (2ϕ-ϕ_S)$ modulation in the pion-induced Drell-Yan process within the theoretical framework of the transverse momentum dependent factorization. The asymmetry is contributed by the convolution of the Boer-Mulders function and the transversity. We adopt the model results for the distributions of the pion meson from the light-cone wavefunction approach and the available parametrization for the distributions of the proton to numerically estimate the $\sin (2ϕ-ϕ_S)$ asymmetry in $π^- p$ Drell-Yan at the kinematics of the COMPASS at CE…
We investigate the cos 2 phi azimuthal asymmetry in Drell--Yan and J/psi production from unpolarized ppbar scattering at GSI-HESR energies. The contribution to this asymmetry arising from the leading-twist Boer-Mulders function h_1^perp(x, k_T^2), which describes a correlation between the transverse momentum and the transverse spin of quarks in an unpolarized hadron, is explicitly evaluated, and predictions for the GSI-HESR kinematic regime are presented. We show that the cos 2 phi asymmetry is quite sizable both on the J/psi peak and in the Drell-Yan continuum region. Therefore these processe…
We investigate the theoretical framework of the $\cos 2ϕ$ azimuthal asymmetry contributed by the coupling of two Boer-Mulders functions in the dilepton production unpolarized $πp$ Drell-Yan process by applying the transverse momentum dependent factorization at leading order. We adopt the model calculation results of the unpolarized distribution function $f_1$ and Boer-Mulders function $h_1^\perp$ of pion meson from the light-cone wave functions. We take into account the transverse momentum evolution effects for both the distribution functions of pion and proton by adopting the existed extracti…
I propose a simple model for predicting the enegy behavior of T-odd, chiral odd function $h_1^{\perp}$. Furthermore I illustrate a method for extracting $h_1^{\perp}$ and the transversity function from Drell-Yan. The method may be applied also to other reactions.
We calculate the $\cos2ϕ$ azimuthal asymmetry of the unpolarized $p\bar{p}$ Drell-Yan dilepton production process in the $Z$-resonance region at the Tevatron kinematic domain. Such an azimuthal asymmetry can provide additional information about a spin-related new parton distribution function, i.e., the Boer-Mulders function of the proton, compared to the $pp$ process. Therefore the available data of unpolarized proton-antiproton collision at Tevatron can contribute to our study on the spin structure of the nucleon.
Some general remarks on parton transverse spin distributions and transverse motions are presented. The issue of accessing experimental information on the transversity distributions h_1^q is discussed. In particular direct information could be obtained from Drell-Yan processes with polarized protons and antiprotons (planned at GSI), while indirect information, coupling h_1^q to the Collins fragmentation function, is being gathered by HERMES and COMPASS collaborations. The related issue of transverse Single Spin Asymmetries (SSA) measured in several processes and the role of the Sivers distribut…
Processes such as double Drell-Yan and same-sign WW production have contributions from double parton scattering, which are not well-defined because of a delta(z_\perp=0) singularity that is generated by QCD evolution. We study the single and double parton contributions to these processes, and show how to handle the singularity using factorization and operator renormalization. We compute the QCD evolution of double parton distribution functions (PDFs) due to mixing with single PDFs. The modified evolution of dPDFs at z_\perp=0, including generalized dPDFs for the non-forward case, is given in t…
We study the beam single-spin asymmetries $A_{LU}^{\sinϕ_h}$ for charged hadrons produced in semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering process, by considering the $e H_1^\perp$ term and the $g^\perp D_1$ term simultaneously. Besides the asymmetries for charged pions, for the first time we present the analysis on the asymmetries in the production of charged kaons, protons and antiprotons by longitudinally polarized leptons scattered off unpolarized proton and deuteron targets. In our calculation we use two sets of transverse momentum dependent distributions $g^\perp(x,\bm k_T^2)$ and $e(x,\bm k_…
Hadron production at low transverse momenta in semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering can be described by transverse momentum dependent (TMD) factorization. This formalism has also been widely used to study the Drell-Yan process and back-to-back hadron pair production in $e^+e^-$ collisions. These processes are the main ones for extractions of TMD parton distribution functions and TMD fragmentation functions, which encode important information about nucleon structure and hadronization. One of the most widely used TMD factorization formalism in phenomenology formulates TMD observables in coor…
We discuss the role of gluon poles and the gauge invariance for the hadron tensors of Drell-Yan and direct photon production processes with the transversely polarized hadron. These hadron tensors are needed to construct the corresponding single spin asymmetries. For the Drell-Yan process, we perform our analysis within both the Feynman and axial-type (contour) gauges for gluons. In both the Feynman and contour gauges, we demonstrate that the gauge invariance leads to the need of the new (non-standard) diagrams. Moreover, in the Feynman gauge, we argue the absence of gluon poles in the correlat…
We argue the existence of new $k_\perp$-dependent functions which can be manifested in the Drell-Yan (SIDIS)-like processes. The presented new functions resemble the well-known Boer-Mulders function associated with the quark spin asymmetry, but in contrast they are sensitive to the transverse motion of partons inside the hadron due to the collective alignment of quark spin vectors.
We present an approach to the momentum-space resummation of global, recursive infrared and collinear safe observables featuring kinematic zeros away from the Sudakov limit. In the hadro-production of a generic colour singlet, we consider the family of inclusive observables which do not depend on the rapidity of the radiation, prime examples being the transverse momentum of the singlet, and $ϕ^*$ in Drell-Yan pair production. We derive a resummation formula valid up to next-to-next-to-next-to-leading-logaritmic accuracy for the considered observables. This formula reduces exactly to the customa…
We study the transverse momentum distributions of single inclusive hadron production in ${e^ + }{e^ - }$ annihilation processes. Although the only available experimental data are scarce and quite old, we find that the fundamental features of transverse momentum dependent (TMD) evolution, historically addressed in Drell-Yan processes and, more recently, in Semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering processes, are visible in ${e^ + }{e^ - }$ annihilations as well. Interesting effects related to its non-perturbative regime can be observed. We test two different parameterizations for the $p_\perp$ d…
We consider central exclusive production of $gg$ dijets in proton-proton (proton-antiproton) collisions at LHC and Tevatron for different intermediate and final gluon polarisations. The amplitude for the process is derived within the $k_\perp$-factorization approach (with both the standard QCD and the Lipatov's effective three-gluon verticies) and is considered in various kinematical asymptotia, in particular, in the important limit of high-$p_\perp$ jets. Compared to earlier works we include emissions of gluons from different gluonic $t$-channel lines as well as emission of quark-antiquark di…
A comprehensive set of azimuthal single-spin and double-spin asymmetries in semi-inclusive leptoproduction of pions, charged kaons, protons, and antiprotons from transversely polarized protons is presented. These asymmetries include the previously published HERMES results on Collins and Sivers asymmetries, the analysis of which has been extended to include protons and antiprotons and also to an extraction in a three-dimensional kinematic binning and enlarged phase space. They are complemented by corresponding results for the remaining four single-spin and four double-spin asymmetries allowed i…
Protons and antiprotons at collider energies are a source of high energy Weizsaecker--Williams photons. This opens up a possibility to study at the LHC exclusive photoproduction of heavy vector mesons at energies much larger than possible at the HERA accelerator. We present selected results of our detailed studies of various distributions for the production of heavy quarkonia (e.g. rapidity, transverse momenta, azimuthal angles). We give predictions for LHC energies. Our calculations are based on modelling the photoproduction amplitudes in a k_\perp-factorisation approach which is checked agai…
We discuss some QCD constraints on light-cone $π$ meson wave function $ψ(\k, x)$ . The analysis is based on such general methods as dispersion relations, duality and PCAC. We calculate the asymptotical behavior of the wave function ($wf$) at the end-point region ($x\to 1$ and $\k\to\infty$) by analysing the corresponding large $n-$th moments in transverse $\la\vec{k}_{\perp}^{2n}\ra \sim n!$ and longitudinal $\la (2x-1)^n\ra \sim 1/n^2$ directions. This information fixes the asymptotic behavior of $wf$ at large $\k$ (which is turned out to be Gaussian commonly used in the phenomenological anal…
We study the underlying event in proton-antiproton collisions by examining the behavior of charged particles (transverse momentum pT > 0.5 GeV/c, pseudorapidity |η| < 1) produced in association with large transverse momentum jets (~2.2 fb-1) or with Drell-Yan lepton-pairs (~2.7 fb-1) in the Z-boson mass region (70 < M(pair) < 110 GeV/c2) as measured by CDF at 1.96 TeV center-of-mass energy. We use the direction of the lepton-pair (in Drell-Yan production) or the leading jet (in high-pT jet production) in each event to define three regions of η-ϕspace; toward, away, and transverse, where ϕis th…
