We show that the transverse double spin asymmetry (DSA) in the Drell-Yan process contributed only from the Sivers functions can be picked out by the weighting function $\frac{Q_T}{M^2}(\cos(ϕ-ϕ_{S_1})\cos(ϕ-ϕ_{S_2})+3\sin(ϕ-ϕ_{S_1})\sin(ϕ-ϕ_{S_2}))$. The asymmetry is proportional to the product of two Sivers functions from each hadron $f_{1T}^{\perp(1)}\times f_{1T}^{\perp (1)}$. Using two sets of Sivers functions extracted from the semi-inclusive deeply elastic scattering data at HERMES, we estimate this asymmetry in the $p^\uparrow\bar{p}^\uparrow$ Drell-Yan process which is possible to be performed in HESR at GSI. The prediction of DSA in the Drell-Yan process contributed by the function $g_{1T}(x,\Vec k_T^2)$, which can be extracted by the weighting function $\frac{Q_T}{M^2}(3\cos(ϕ-ϕ_{S_1})\cos(ϕ-ϕ_{S_2})+\sin(ϕ-ϕ_{S_1})\sin(ϕ-ϕ_{S_2}))$, is also given at GSI.
We recently estimated pion+X production via proton collisions with a polarized proton target to enable the Collins fragmentation function to be determined via future experiments. In the present article we first estimate the Silvers differential cross section obtianed from experiments with the target proton having both positive and negative polarizations, and then estimate the Sivers Function using quark distribution functions.
A recent investigation of the single spin asymmetry (SSA) in low virtuality electroproduction/photoproduction of $J/ψ$ in color evaporation model is presented. It is shown that the asymmetry is sizable and can be used as a probe for the still unknown gluon Sivers function.
We present a study of transverse single-spin asymmetries (SSAs) in $p^\uparrow p\to J/ψ\,X$ and $p^\uparrow p\to D X$ within the framework of the generalized parton model (GPM), which includes both spin and transverse momentum effects, and show how they can provide useful information on the still almost unknown gluon Sivers function. Moreover, by adopting a modified version of this model, named color gauge invariant (CGI) GPM, we analyze the impact of the initial- and final-state interactions on our predictions. As a consequence, we find that these two processes are sensitive to different gluo…
In this paper we probe the Sivers asymmetries through $\rm J/ψ$ photoproduction in $\rm p^\uparrow p$ collision within the non-relativistic QCD framework, based on color octet model and the Transverse Momentum Dependent Parton Distributions (TMDs). Both the DGLAP evolution and the TMD evolution are included. The intensity and the sign of the Sivers asymmetry is strongly related on evolution model used to investigate the Gluon Sivers Function (GSF). A sizable asymmetry is obtained as a function of the rapidity, $\rm log{(x_γ)}$ or $\rm log{(x_{g})}$ dependence using a recent parametrization of …
We discuss the possibility of using electroproduction of $J/ψ$ as a probe of gluon Sivers function by measuring single spin asymmetry (SSA) in experiments with transversely polarized protons and electron beams. We estimate SSA for JLab, HERMES, COMPASS and eRHIC energies using the color evaporation model of charmonium production and find asymmetry up to 25% for certain choices of model parameters which have been used earlier for estimating SSA in the SIDIS and Drell-Yan processes.
The Sivers function is extracted from HERMES data on single spin asymmetries in semi-inclusive deeply inelastic scattering. The result is used for making predictions for the Sivers effect in the Drell-Yan process.
On the basis of a fit to the Sivers effect in deep-inelastic scattering, we make predictions for single-spin asymmetries in the Drell-Yan process at RHIC.
The Sivers distributions recently extracted from semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering data [1] are used to compute estimates for Sivers asymmetries in Drell-Yan processes which are being planned at several facilities (RHIC, COMPASS, J-PARC, PAX, PANDA, NICA (JINR) and SPASCHARM (IHEP)). Most of these asymmetries turn out to be large and could allow a clear test of the predicted sign change of the Sivers distributions when active in SIDIS and Drell-Yan processes. This is regarded as a fundamental test of our understanding, within QCD and the factorization scheme, of single spin asymmetries.
We extend our analysis of transverse single spin asymmetry (SSA) in electroproduction of $J/ψ$ to include the effect of the scale evolution of the transverse momentum dependent (TMD) parton distribution functions and gluon Sivers function. We estimate SSA for JLab, HERMES, COMPASS, and eRHIC energies using the color evaporation model of charmonium production, using an analytically obtained approximate solution of TMD evolution equations discussed in the literature. We find that there is a reduction in the asymmetry compared with our predictions for the earlier case considered by us, wherein th…
The Sivers parton distribution has been predicted to obey a particular ``universality relation'', namely to have opposite sign in semi-inclusive deeply inelastic scattering (SIDIS) and the Drell-Yan process. We discuss how, on the basis of present HERMES data, this remarkable prediction of the QCD factorization approach to the description of single spin asymmetries related to the Sivers effect could be checked experimentally in future experiments at PAX and COMPASS.
We investigate the transverse momentum weighted Sivers asymmetries in the processes with transversely polarized proton target, including the $\frac{P_{hT}}{zM_p}\sin (ϕ_h-ϕ_S)$ weighted asymmetry in charged hadron production in semi-inclusive deeply inelastic scattering (SIDIS) and the $\frac{q_T}{M_p}\sin (ϕ_S)$ weighted asymmetry in $π^- p$ Drell-Yan process. Due to the integration over the transverse momentum, the weighted asymmetries can be expressed as the product of the transverse-moments of the transverse momentum dependent (TMD) parton distribution functions (PDFs) and fragmentation fu…
We study the transverse single-spin asymmetries for $p^\uparrow p\to π\, X$ and $p^\uparrow p\to γ\, X$ within the so-called color gauge invariant generalized parton model (CGI-GPM) which, in addition to spin and transverse momentum effects, includes initial and final state interactions with the polarized proton remnants. We compute all relevant contributions, focusing in particular on the process dependence of the gluon Sivers function, which, for these processes, can always be expressed as a linear combination of two independent, universal terms. This study extends and completes a previous o…
Sivers asymmetry, adopted to explain transverse single spin asymmetries (SSA) observed in inclusive pion production, p(transv. polarized) p --> pion + X and p-bar(transv. polarized) p --> pion + X is used here to compute SSA in Drell-Yan processes; in this case, by considering the differential cross section in the lepton-pair invariant mass, rapidity and transverse momentum, other mechanisms which may originate SSA cannot contribute. Estimates for RHIC experiments are given.
We propose measurement of transverse single spin asymmetry (SSA) in charmonium production as a probe of gluon Sivers function. We estimate SSA in low virtuality electroproduction of $J/ψ$ using color evaporation model of charmonium production and existing models of the gluon Sivers function and find sizable asymmetry at JLab, HERMES, COMPASS and eRHIC energies.
We consider the transverse single-spin asymmetry (SSA) for $J/ψ$ production in $p^\uparrow p \to J/ψ+ X$ within a TMD approach in non-relativistic QCD. Extending a previous study [1], we employ here the color-gauge invariant generalized parton model (CGI-GPM), in which spin and intrinsic transverse momentum effects are taken into account, together with leading-order initial- and final-state interactions (ISIs and FSIs). We find that, even when the heavy-quark pair is produced in a color-octet state, ISIs and FSIs lead to a nonvanishing SSA, allowing, in principle, to test the process dependenc…
We present estimates of transverse single-spin asymmetry in prompt photon production in the scattering of low virtuality photons off a polarized proton target and discuss the possibility of using this as a probe to get information about the gluon Sivers function (GSF). Using a generalized parton model (GPM) framework, we estimate the asymmetries at electron-ion collider energy ($\sqrt{s}$ =140 GeV) taking into account both direct and resolved photon processes and find that the dominant contribution, up to $10\%$, comes from quark Sivers function (QSF) while the contribution from GSF is found t…
We present estimates of Single Spin Asymmetry(SSA) in the electroproduction of J/ψ taking into account the transverse momentum dependent(TMD) evolution of the Sivers function. We estimate SSA for JLab, HERMES, COMPASS and eRHIC energies using color evaporation model of J/ψ. We have calculated the asymmetry using recent parameters extracted by Echevarria et al. using the CSS approach to TMD evolution. These recent TMD evolution fits are based on the evolution kernel in which the perturbative part is resummed up to NLL accuracy. We have also estimated the asymmetry by using parameters which had …
The prediction of single-spin asymmetry in inelastic photoproduction of $J/ψ$ in $ep^\uparrow$ collision is presented. At next-to-leading order, the dominating process is photon-gluon fusion, $γ+g\rightarrow J/ψ+g$ for the production of $J/ψ$ in $e+p^\uparrow\rightarrow J/ψ+X$, which directly probes the gluon Sivers function. Using the non-relativistic QCD based color octet model, the color octet states $\leftidx{^{3}}{S}{_1}^{(8)}$, $\leftidx{^{1}}{S}{_0}^{(8)}$ and $\leftidx{^{3}}{P}{_{J(0,1,2)}}^{(8)}$ contribution to $J/ψ$ production is calculated. Sizable asymmetry is estimated as a funct…
We propose that back-to-back correlations in azimuthal angle of jets produced in collisions of unpolarized with transversely polarized proton beams could be used to determine Sivers functions. The corresponding single-spin asymmetry is not power-suppressed, but is subject to Sudakov suppression. We present estimates of the asymmetry (without and with Sudakov effects) for RHIC at jet transverse momenta of ~10 GeV and show that it may reach a few per cent or more and could provide access to the gluon Sivers function.
We present Monte Carlo simulations of the Sivers effect in the polarized Drell-Yan $pp^\uparrow \to μ^+ μ^- X$ process at the center-of-mass energy $\sqrt{s}=200$ GeV reachable at the Relativistic Heavy-Ion Collider (RHIC) of BNL. We use two different parametrizations for the Sivers function, one deduced from the analysis of Semi-Inclusive Deep-Inelastic Scattering (SIDIS) data at much lower energies, and another one constrained by the RHIC data for the $pp^\uparrow \to πX$ process at the same energy. For a given luminosity of $10^{32}$ cm$^{-2}$ sec$^{-1}$, we explore the necessary conditions…
We consider two different spin asymmetries in Drell-Yan processes generated by the collisions of an unpolarized proton beam on transversely polarized protons: the muon helicity asymmetry and the left-right asymmetry. We calculate the asymmetries in the framework of the QCD improved parton model, taking into account the parton transverse momentum and considering the first order QCD corrections. The muon helicity asymmetry is sensitive to the quark transversity distribution and is nonvanishing even at zero order. On the contrary the left-right asymmetry vanishes at zero order but not at first or…
We present expected values of the Single Spin Asymmetry (SSA) in $D$-meson production in the process $p+p^\uparrow \rightarrow D^0 + X $ at RHIC energy $(\sqrt{s}=200\text{ GeV})$ using a generalized parton model approach. We use fits to the gluon Sivers function obtained recently by D'Alesio {\it et al.,} by fitting to the asymmetry data for the process $p+p^\uparrow \rightarrow π^0+ X$ measured by the PHENIX collaboration at RHIC. These fits give peak asymmetry predictions which lie in a broad range, $0.5\%\lesssim A_N\lesssim10\%$ for the kinematic regions considered. This is to be compared…
We investigate the Sivers asymmetry in the pion-induced single polarized Drell-Yan process in the theoretical framework of the transverse momentum dependent factorization up to next-to-leading logarithmic order of QCD. Within the TMD evolution formalism of parton distribution functions, the recently extracted nonperturbative Sudakov form factor for the pion distribution functions as well as the one for the Sivers function of the proton are applied to numerically estimate the Sivers asymmetry in the $π^- p$ Drell-Yan at the kinematics of the COMPASS at CERN. In the low $b$ region, the Sivers fu…
We study the Sivers single spin asymmetry of the Drell-Yan lepton pair production in the small-$x$ regime. We find that in the corresponding kinematic region the spin asymmetry calculated in the small-$x$ approach is consistent with either the usual transverse-momentum-dependent factorization formalism or the collinear factorization formalism, respectively. We estimate the Sivers asymmetry for both polarized p+p and p+A collisions and argue that the Drell-Yan production is an interesting and unique probe for both the transverse spin physics and the small-$x$ saturation effect.
We perform the global analysis of polarized Semi-Inclusive Deep Inelastic Scattering (SIDIS), pion-induced polarized Drell-Yan (DY), and $W^\pm/Z$ boson production data and extract the Sivers function for $u$, $d$, $s$ and for sea-quarks. We use the framework of transverse momentum dependent factorization at N$^3$LO accuracy. The Qiu-Sterman function is determined in a model-independent way from the extracted Sivers function. We also evaluate the significance of the predicted sign change of Sivers function in DY with respect to SIDIS.
Recently, Brodsky, Hwang and Schmidt have proposed a new mechanism that gives a transverse spin symmetry at leading twist in semi-inclusive deep-inelastic scattering. I show that the new mechanism is compatible with factorization and is due to an transverse-spin asymmetry in the k_T distribution of quarks in a hadron (the "Sivers asymmetry"). An earlier proof that the Sivers asymmetry vanishes because of time-reversal invariance is invalidated by the path-ordered exponential of the gluon field in the operator definition of parton densities. Instead, the time-reversal argument shows that the Si…
We study the azimuthal asymmetries for the distributions of leading pions inside a jet produced inclusively in high-energy proton-proton collisions within the framework of the transverse momentum dependent generalized parton model. We present results for the RHIC center-of-mass energies $\sqrt{s}$ = 200 and 500 GeV, mainly for forward jet rapidities, in particular for the two mechanisms which dominate such asymmetries: the Sivers and the Collins effects. We also briefly discuss the case of inclusive jet production and, adopting the so-called colour gauge invariant parton model, we propose a ph…
We report on a recent investigation of the single spin asymmetry (SSA) in low virtuality electroproduction of $J/ψ$ in color evaporation model. We show that this can be used as a probe for the still unknown gluon Sivers function.
The abundant production of lepton pairs via $J/Ψ$ creation at COMPASS, $π^\pm \, p^\uparrow \to J/Ψ\, X \to \ell^+ \ell^- X$, allows a measurement of the transverse Single Spin Asymmetry generated by the Sivers effect. The crucial issue of the sign change of the Sivers function in lepton pair production, with respect to Semi Inclusive Deep Inelastic Scattering processes, can be solved. Predictions for the expected magnitude of the Single Spin Asymmetry, which turns out to be large, are given.
We investigate the energy evolution of the azimuthal spin asymmetries in semi-inclusive hadron production in deep inelastic scattering (SIDIS) and Drell-Yan lepton pair production in pp collisions. The scale dependence is evaluated by applying an approximate solution to the Collins-Soper-Sterman (CSS) evolution equation at one-loop order which is adequate for moderate Q^2 variations. This describes well the unpolarized cross sections for SIDIS and Drell-Yan process in the $Q^2$ range of 2.4-100GeV^2. A combined analysis of the Sivers asymmetries in SIDIS from HERMES and COMPASS experiments, an…
We perform numerical simulations of the Sivers effect from single spin asymmetries in Drell-Yan processes on transversely polarized protons. We consider colliding antiprotons and pions at different kinematic conditions of interest for the future planned experiments. We conventionally name "framework I" the results obtained when properly accounting for the various flavor dependent polarized valence contributions in the numerator of the asymmetry, and for the unpolarized nonvalence contribution in its denominator. We name "framework II" the results obtained when taking a suitable flavor average …
We perform a global fit of the available polarized Semi-Inclusive Deep Inelastic Scattering (SIDIS), polarized pion-induced Drell-Yan (DY) and $W^\pm/Z$ boson production data at N$^3$LO and NNLO accuracy of the Transverse Momentum Dependent (TMD) evolution, and extract the Sivers function for $u$, $d$, $s$ and for sea quarks. The Qiu-Sterman function is determined in a model independent way via the operator product expansion from the extracted Sivers function. The analysis is supplemented by additional studies, such as the estimation of applicability region, the impact of the unpolarized distr…
In this paper we propose to investigate the transverse single spin asymmetry in the inelastic $J/Ψ$ photoproduction in $p^\uparrow p$ and $p^\uparrow A$ collisions at RHIC energies. At leading order this process probes the gluon Sivers function. We predict large values for the cross sections, which indicates that its experimental analysis is, in principle, feasible. The rapidity dependence of the single spin asymmetry is presented. We obtain that the asymmetry is strongly dependent on the model used for the gluon Sivers function and that it can be probed by the analysis of the $J/Ψ$ production…
Recent data on the transverse single spin asymmetry $A_N$ measured by the STAR Collaboration for $p^\uparrow \, p \to W^\pm/Z^0 \, X$ reactions at RHIC allow the first investigation of the Sivers function in Drell-Yan processes and of its expected sign change with respect to SIDIS processes. A new extraction of the Sivers functions from the latest SIDIS data is performed and a critical assessment of the significance of the STAR data is attempted.
We study double transverse spin asymmetries in the Drell-Yan process at measured transverse momentum of the lepton pair. Contrary to what a collinear factorization approach would suggest, a nonzero double transverse spin asymmetry in the laboratory frame a priori does not imply nonzero transversity. TMD effects, such as the double Sivers effect, in principle form a background. Using the current knowledge of the relevant TMDs we estimate their contribution in the laboratory frame for Drell-Yan and W production at RHIC and point out a cross check asymmetry measurement to bound the TMD contributi…
We calculate the Sivers asymmetry in the photoproduction of almost back-to-back $J/ψ$-jet pair in the process $ep^\uparrow \to J/ψ+\mathrm{jet}+X$, which will be possible at the future planned electron-ion collider (EIC). We use the framework of generalized parton model (GPM), and NRQCD for calculating the $J/ψ$ production rate. We include contributions from both color singlet and color octate states in the asymmetry. We obtain sizable Sivers asymmetry that can be promising to determine the gluon Sivers function. We also investigate the effect of TMD evolution on the asymmetry.
We examine the QCD evolution for the transverse momentum dependent observables in hard processes of semi-inclusive hadron production in deep inelastic scattering and Drell-Yan lepton pair production in $pp$ collisions, including the spin-average cross sections and Sivers single transverse spin asymmetries. We show that the evolution equations derived by a direct integral of the Collins-Soper-Sterman evolution kernel from low to high Q can describe well the transverse momentum distribution of the unpolarized cross sections in the Q^2 range from 2 to 100 GeV^2. In addition, the matching is estab…
Single transverse-spin asymmetries have been studied intensively both in experiment and theory. Theoretically, two factorization approaches have been proposed. One is by using transverse-momentum-dependent factorization and the asymmetry comes from the so called Sivers function. Another is by using collinear factorization where the nonperturbative effect is parameterized by a twist-3 hadronic matrix element. However, the factorized formulas for the asymmetries in the two approaches are derived at hadron level formally by diagram expansion, where one works with various parton density matrices o…
The prediction of single spin asymmetry (SSA) in double $\rm J/ψ$ production in proton-proton collision is given out within the framework of non-relativistic QCD, using the recently obtained best fit parameters for the gluon Sivers function extracted from PHENIX data in $\rm p+p^\uparrow\toπ^0+X$. The color singlet state $\rm ^3 S_1^{(1)}$ and color octet state $\rm ^3 S_1^{(8)}$ are considered to the SSA contribution in the double $\rm J/ψ$ hadroproduction. Our result shows that a sizable asymmetry can be estimated as functions of different kinematic variables.
We study the Sivers asymmetry in inelastic $J/ψ$ leptoproduction, $ep^\uparrow \to e+ J/ψ+X$, within a transverse momentum dependent scheme, the so-called generalized parton model (GPM). The effects of final-state interactions are properly taken into account by employing the color-gauge invariant GPM (CGI-GPM). For the $J/ψ$ formation the non-relativistic QCD (NRQCD) framework is adopted. Predictions for unpolarized cross sections and maximized Sivers asymmetries at EIC energies are given.
Heavy flavour production like $J/ψ$ and $D$- meson production in scattering of electrons/unpolarized protons off polarized proton target offer promising probes to investigate gluon Sivers function. In this talk, I will summarize our recent work on trasverse single spin asymmetry in $J/ψ$ -production and $D$ - meson production in $p p^\uparrow$ scattering using a generalized parton model approach. We compare predictions obtained using different models of gluon Sivers function within this approach and then, taking into account the transverse momentum dependent evolution of the unpolarized parton…
We study the single-transverse spin asymmetry for the Drell-Yan process. We consider production of the lepton pair at large transverse momentum, $q_\perp\sim Q$, where $Q$ is the pair's mass. The spin asymmetry is then of higher twist and may be generated by twist-three quark-gluon correlation functions. Expanding the result for $q_\perp\ll Q$, we make contact with the transverse-momentum-dependent QCD factorization involving the so-called Sivers functions. We find that the two mechanisms, quark-gluon correlations on one hand and the Sivers effect on the other, contain the same physics in this…
Recently, it has been shown, contrary to previous beliefs, that the k_T distribution of quarks in a transversely polarized proton can be asymmetric. This ``Sivers effect'' had already been used to explain transverse single spin asymmetries (SSA) observed in inclusive pion production, p(transv. polarized) p --> pion + X and p-bar(transv. polarized) p --> pion + X. In such channels, however, other mechanisms, like the ``Collins effect'' (a k_T asymmetric fragmentation of a transversely polarized quark into pions), may generate SSA. The Sivers asymmetry is used here to compute SSA in Drell-Yan pr…
We show that the initial-state interactions from gluon exchange between the incoming quark and the target spectator system lead to leading-twist single-spin asymmetries in the Drell-Yan process. The QCD initial-state interactions produce a $T-$odd spin-correlation between the target spin and the virtual photon production plane which is not power-law suppressed in the Drell-Yan scaling limit. The origin of the single-spin asymmetry in $πp^\uparrow \to \ell^+ \ell^- X$ is a phase difference between two amplitudes coupling the proton target with $J^z_p = \pm {1\over 2}$ to the same final-state, t…
We propose low-virtuality leptoproduction of open-charm, $p^\uparrow l\to D^0+X$, as a probe of the gluon Sivers function (GSF). At leading-order, this process directly probes the gluon content of the proton, making detection of a trasverse single-spin asymmetry in the process a clear indication of a non-zero GSF. Considering the kinematics of the proposed future Electron-Ion Collider (EIC), we present predictions for asymmetry using fits of the GSF available in literature. We also study the asymmetry at the level of muons produced in D-meson decays and find that the asymmetry is preserved the…
We study a weighted asymmetry in the azimuthal distribution of photon-jet pairs produced in the process p^\uparrow p --> γjet X with a transversely polarized proton. We focus on the contribution of the Sivers effect only, considering experimental configurations accessible at RHIC-BNL. We show that predictions for the asymmetry, obtained in terms of gluonic-pole cross sections calculable in perturbative QCD, can be tested and clearly discriminated from those based on a generalized parton model, involving standard partonic cross sections. Experimental measurements of the asymmetry will therefore…
We present a decomposition of the hadronic tensor for a general polarized Drell-Yan process AB --> l^+ l^- X in terms of helicity structure functions using the helicity axes of the dilepton rest frame as a basis. Next, we consider a QCD parton model and in the framework of a generalized QCD factorization scheme, which applies when the dilepton invariant mass M is much larger than the transverse component of the photon momentum, q_T, in the hadronic center of mass frame. In this approximation we compute the angular distribution of the unpolarized Drell Yan cross section and of the Sivers effect…
In this paper, we extend the study of Drell-Yan processes with antiproton beams already presented in a previous work. We consider the fully polarized $\bar{p}^\uparrow p^\uparrow \to μ^+ μ^- X$ process, because this is the simplest scenario for extracting the transverse spin distribution of quarks, or transversity, which is the missing piece to complete the knowledge of the nucleon spin structure at leading twist. We perform Monte Carlo simulations for transversely polarized antiproton and proton beams colliding at a center-of-mass energy of interest for the future HESR at GSI. The goal is to …
Transverse single-spin asymmetries (SSA) in inclusive reactions are now considered to be directly related to the transverse momentum ${\bf k}_{T}$ of the fundamental partons involved in the process. We find that the ideal probe to extract information on the gluon Sivers function is the transverse SSA of prompt photon production $p p^{\uparrow} \to γX$, at large $p_T$. The following related processes, $p p^{\uparrow} \to γ+ jet + X$, $p p^{\uparrow} \to γ^* + X \to μ^+ μ^- + X$ and $\bar{p} p^{\uparrow} \to γ+ X$ are also briefly discussed.
We estimate the single-spin asymmetries (SSA) which provide the access to transversity as well as to Boer-Mulders and Sivers PDFs via investigation of the single-polarized Drell-Yan (DY) processes with $ pp$, $pD$ and $DD$ collisions available to RHIC, NICA, COMPASS, and J-PARC. The feasibility of these SSA is studied with the new generator of polarized DY events. The performed estimations demonstrate that there exist the such kinematical regions where SSA are presumably measurable. The most useful for PDFs extraction are the limiting kinematical ranges, where one can neglect the sea PDFs cont…
We revisit the transverse single spin asymmetry in the angular distribution of a Drell-Yan dilepton pair. We study this asymmetry by using twist-3 collinear factorization, and we obtain the same result both in covariant gauge and in the light-cone gauge. Moreover, we have checked the electromagnetic gauge invariance of our calculation. Our final expression for the asymmetry differs from all the previous results given in the literature. The overall sign of this asymmetry is as important as the sign of the Sivers asymmetry in Drell-Yan.
We present Monte Carlo simulations of both the Sivers and the Boer-Mulders effects in the polarized Drell-Yan $π^\pm p^\uparrow \to μ^+ μ^- X$ process at the center-of-mass energy $\sqrt{s} \sim 14$ GeV reachable at COMPASS with pion beams of energy 100 GeV. For the Sivers effect, we adopt two different parametrizations for the Sivers function to explore the statistical accuracy required to extract unambiguous information on this parton density. In particular, we verify the possibility of checking its predicted sign change between Semi-Inclusive Deep-Inelastic Scattering (SIDIS) and Drell-Yan …
We present estimates of transverse single spin asymmetry (TSSA) in $p+p^\uparrow \rightarrow J/ψ+X$ within the colour evaporation model of charmonium production in a generalized parton model (GPM) framework, using the recently obtained best fit parameters for the gluon Sivers function (GSF) extracted from PHENIX data on TSSA in $p+p^\uparrow \to π^0+X$ at midrapidity. We calculate asymmetry at $\sqrt{s} = 200$ GeV, and compare the results with PHENIX data on TSSA in the process $p + p^\uparrow \to J/ψ+X$. We also present estimates for asymmetry at $\sqrt{s} = 115 $ GeV corresponding to the pro…
We analyze the Sivers asymmetry in both Drell-Yan (DY) production and semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering (SIDIS), while considering properly defined transverse momentum dependent parton distribution and fragmentation functions and their QCD evolution. After finding a universal non-perturbative spin-independent Sudakov factor that can describe reasonably well the world's data of SIDIS, DY lepton pair and $W/Z$ production in unpolarized scatterings, we perform a global fitting of all the experimental data on the Sivers asymmetry in SIDIS from HERMES, COMPASS and Jefferson Lab. Then we make…
We study the transverse single-spin asymmetry (TSSA) in $p^{\uparrow}p \to J/ψX$ reaction, incorporating both transverse-momentum and spin effects. To predict production cross section of prompt $J/ψ$ we use two different approaches, the non-relativistic QCD (NRQCD) factorization approach and the Improved Color Evaporation Model (ICEM), and show how the predicted results for TSSAs depend on choice of hadronization model. For initial-state factorization we consider two models: the standard Generalized Parton Model (GPM) and the Colour Gauge-Invariant version of it (CGI-GPM). We demonstrate that …
The most recent data on the weighted transverse single spin asymmetry A_{UT}^{\sin(ϕ_h-ϕ_S)} from HERMES and COMPASS collaborations are analysed within LO parton model; all transverse motions are taken into account. Extraction of the Sivers function for u and d quarks is performed. Based on the extracted Sivers functions, predictions for A_{UT}^{\sin(ϕ_h-ϕ_S)} asymmetries at JLab are given; suggestions for further measurements at COMPASS, with a transversely polarized hydrogen target and selecting favourable kinematical ranges, are discussed. Predictions are also presented for Single Spin Asym…
We present a detailed study, performed in the framework of LO perturbative QCD with the inclusion of spin and k_T effects, of unpolarized cross sections for the Drell-Yan process and for inclusive pion and photon production in hadronic collisions, in different kinematical situations. We find a satisfactory agreement between theoretical predictions and experimental data. This supports the study of spin effects and transverse single spin asymmetries (SSA) within the same scheme. We then present results for SSA, generated by the so-called Sivers effect, in inclusive pion production in proton-prot…
I study the effect of scalar and spin-orbit rescattering terms, in the production of a nonzero Sivers-like asymmetry in proton-proton collisions (nclusive production and Drell-Yan) at moderate center of mass energies $\sqrt{s}$ $<$ 15 GeV and transverse momentum up to 3 GeV/c. An ultrarelativistic generalization of the Glauber formalism is here used to (i) fit the scalar and spin-orbit interaction terms on proton-proton elastic scattering data, including analyzing power, (ii) transfer such information to inclusive proton-proton scattering. It is shown that the phenomenological interactions res…
