Simply and tangentially homotopy equivalent but non-homeomorphic homogeneous manifolds

For each odd integer r greater than one and not divisible by three we give explicit examples of infinite families of simply and tangentially homotopy equivalent but pairwise non-homeomorphic closed homogeneous spaces with fundamental group isomorphic to Z/r. As an application we construct the first examples of manifolds which possess infinitely many metrics of nonnegative sectional curvature with pairwise non-homeomorphic homogeneous souls of codimension three with trivial normal bundle, such that their curvatures and the diameters of the souls are uniformly bounded. These manifolds are the first examples of manifolds fulfilling such geometric conditions and they serve as solutions to a problem posed by I. Belegradek, S. Kwasik and R. Schultz.

Open manifolds with non-homeomorphic positively curved souls

We extend two known existence results to simply connected manifolds with positive sectional curvature: we show that there exist pairs of simply connected positively-curved manifolds that are tangentially homotopy equivalent but not homeomorphic, and we deduce that an open manifold may admit a pair of non-homeomorphic simply connected and positively-curved souls. Manifolds that are not leaves of codimension one foliations

We present new open manifolds that are not homeomorphic to leaves of any C^0 codimension one foliation of a compact manifold. Among them are simply connected manifolds of dimension 5 or greater that are non-periodic in homotopy or homology, namely in their 2-dimensional homotopy or homology groups.

Diffeomorphism groups of non-compact manifolds endowed with the Whitney C^infty-topology

We study algebraic conditions on a group G under which every properly discontinuous, isometric G-action on a Hadamard manifold has a G-invariant Busemann function. The stable converse soul question for positively curved homogeneous spaces

The stable converse soul question (SCSQ) asks whether, given a real vector bundle $E$ over a compact manifold, some stabilization $E\times\R^k$ admits a metric with non-negative (sectional) curvature.
