On the composition product of saturated fusion systems

We say that a fusion system is the composition product of two subsystems if every morphism can be factored as a morphism in one fusion system followed by a morphism in the other. We establish a relationship between the characteristic idempotent of a saturated fusion system that is the composition product of saturated subsystems and the characteristic idempotents of the component systems. Consequently we obtain a compatibility result for transfer through the composition product and transfer through the component systems.

On saturated fusion systems and Brauer indecomposability of Scott modules

Let $p$ be a prime number, $G$ a finite group, $P$ a $p$-subgroup of $G$ and $k$ an algebraically closed field of characteristic $p$. We study the relationship between the category $\Ff_P(G)$ and the behavior of $p$-permutation $kG$-modules with vertex $P$ under the Brauer construction. We give a sufficient condition for $\Ff_P(G)$ to be a saturated fusion system. We prove that for Scott modules with abelian vertex, our condition is also necessary. Saturated Fusion Systems on Sylow $p$-subgroups of Rank $2$ Simple Groups of Lie Type

Transfer and characteristic idempotents for saturated fusion systems

We construct a well-behaved transfer map from the p-local Burnside ring of the underlying p-group S to the p-local Burnside ring of a saturated fusion system F. Using this transfer map, we give new results on the characteristic idempotent of F -- the unique idempotent in the p-local double Burnside ring of S satisfying properties of Linckelmann and Webb. Fusion systems on small p-groups

In this article we study several classes of `small' 2-groups: we complete the classification, started in [Stancu, 2006], of all saturated fusion systems on metacyclic p-groups for all primes p. We consider Suzuki 2-groups, and classify all center-free saturated fusion systems on 2-groups of 2-rank 2. We end by classifying all possible F-centric, F-radical subgroups in saturated fusion systems on 2-groups of 2-rank 2.

Algorithms for fusion systems with applications to $p$-groups of small order

For a prime $p$, we describe a protocol for handling a specific type of fusion system on a $p$-group by computer. These fusion systems contain all saturated fusion systems. This framework allows us to computationally determine whether or not two subgroups are conjugate in the fusion system for example. Sparse fusion systems

We define sparse saturated fusion systems and show that, for odd primes, sparse systems are constrained. This simplifies the proof of the Glauberman-Thompson p-nilpotency theorem for fusion systems and a related theorem of Stellmacher. We then define a more restrictive class of saturated fusion systems, called extremely sparse, that are constrained for all primes.

Realizing fusion systems inside finite groups

We show that every (not necessarily saturated) fusion system can be realized as a full subcategory of the fusion system of a finite group. This result extends our previous work \cite{Park2010} and complements the related result \cite{LearyStancu2007} by Leary and Stancu.

Fusion systems of blocks of finite groups over arbitrary fields

To any block idempotent $b$ of a group algebra $kG$ of a finite group $G$ over a field $k$ of characteristic $p>0$, Puig associated a fusion system and proved that it is saturated if the $k$-algebra $kC_G(P)e$ is split, where $(P,e)$ is a maximal $kGb$-Brauer pair. Fusion systems on bicyclic 2-groups

We classify all (saturated) fusion systems on bicyclic 2-groups. Here, a bicyclic group is a product of two cyclic subgroups. This extends previous work on fusion systems on metacyclic 2-groups (see [Craven-Glesser, 2012] and [Sambale, 2012]). As an application we prove Olsson's Conjecture for all blocks with bicyclic defect groups.

Minimal characteristic bisets for fusion systems

We show that every saturated fusion system $\mathcal{F}$ has a unique minimal $\mathcal{F}$-characteristic biset $Λ_\mathcal{F}$. Normal Subsystems of Fusion Systems

In this article we prove that for any saturated fusion system, that the (unique) smallest weakly normal subsystem of it on a given strongly closed subgroup is actually normal. This has a variety of corollaries, such as the statement that the notion of a simple fusion system is independent of whether one uses weakly normal or normal subsystems. We also develop a theory of weakly normal maps, consider intersections and products of weakly normal subsystems, and the hypercentre of a fusion system.
