These are expanded notes from three survey lectures given at the 14th International Conference on Representations of Algebras (ICRA XIV) held in Tokyo in August 2010. We first study identities between products of quantum dilogarithm series associated with Dynkin quivers following Reineke. We then examine similar identities for quivers with potential and link them to Fomin-Zelevinsky's theory of cluster algebras. Here we mainly follow ideas due to Bridgeland, Fock-Goncharov, Kontsevich-Soibelman and Nagao.
We exhibit and discuss "wild" analogues of the five-term quantum dilogarithm identity. We derive these from the representation theory of quivers, using motivic wall-crossing, the geometricity of motivic Donaldson-Thomas invariants, and special properties of Kronecker moduli
We prove the periodicities of the restricted T and Y-systems associated with the quantum affine algebra of type C_r, F_4, and G_2 at any level. We also prove the dilogarithm identities for these Y-systems at any level. Our proof is based on the tropical Y-systems and the categorification of the cluster algebra associated with any skew-symmetric matrix by Plamondon.
We study the family of Y-systems and T-systems associated with the sine-Gordon models and the reduced sine-Gordon models for the parameter of continued fractions with two terms. We formulate these systems by cluster algebras, which turn out to be of finite type, and prove their periodicities and the associated dilogarithm identities which have been conjectured earlier. In particular, this provides new examples of periodicities of seeds.
We study quantum dilogarithm identities for cyclic quivers following Reineke's idea via Ringel-Hall algebra approach. For any given discrete stability function for the cyclic quiver $Δ_n$ with $n$ vertices, we obtain certain cyclic quantum dilogarithm identities of order $n$ in the sense of Bytsko and Volkov.
We prove the periodicities of the restricted T and Y-systems associated with the quantum affine algebra of type B_r at any level. We also prove the dilogarithm identities for the Y-systems of type B_r at any level. Our proof is based on the tropical Y-systems and the categorification of the cluster algebra associated with any skew-symmetric matrix by Plamondon. Using this new method, we also give an alternative and simplified proof of the periodicities of the T and Y-systems associated with pairs of simply laced Dynkin diagrams.
We prove quantum dilogarithm identities for $n$-cycle quivers. By the combinatorial approach of Keller, each side of our identity determines a maximal green sequence of quiver mutations. Thus we interpret our identities as factorizations of the refined Donaldson--Thomas invariant for the quiver with potential. Finally, we conjecture an upper bound on the possible lengths of maximal green sequences.
We consider two kinds of periodicities of mutations in cluster algebras. For any sequence of mutations under which exchange matrices are periodic, we define the associated T- and Y-systems. When the sequence is `regular', they are particularly natural generalizations of the known `classic' T- and Y-systems. Furthermore, for any sequence of mutations under which seeds are periodic, we formulate the associated dilogarithm identity. We prove the identities when exchange matrices are skew symmetric.
The famous pentagon identity for quantum dilogarithms has a generalization for every Dynkin quiver, due to Reineke. A more advanced generalization is associated with a pair of alternating Dynkin quivers, due to Keller. The description and proof of Keller's identities involves cluster algebras and cluster categories, and the statement of the identity is implicit. In this paper we describe Keller's identities explicitly, and prove them by a dimension counting argument. Namely, we consider quiver representations $\boldsymbol{\mathrm{Rep}}_γ$ together with a superpotential function $W_γ$, and calc…
We study fundamental group of the exchange graphs for the bounded derived category D(Q) of a Dynkin quiver Q and the finite-dimensional derived category D(Γ_N Q) of the Calabi-Yau-N Ginzburg algebra associated to Q. In the case of D(Q), we prove that its space of stability conditions (in the sense of Bridgeland) is simply connected; as applications, we show that its Donanldson-Thomas invariant can be calculated via a quantum dilogarithm function on exchange graphs. In the case of D(Γ_N Q), we show that faithfulness of the Seidel-Thomas braid group action (which is known for Q of type A or N = …
The goal of this paper is to construct quantum analogues of Chevalley groups inside completions of quantum groups or, more precisely, inside completions of Hall algebras of finitary categories. In particular, we obtain pentagonal and other identities in the quantum Chevalley groups which generalize their classical counterparts and explain Faddeev-Volkov quantum dilogarithmic identities and their recent generalizations due to Keller
This is an introductory survey on cluster algebras and their (additive) categorification using derived categories of Ginzburg algebras. After a gentle introduction to cluster combinatorics, we review important examples of coordinate rings admitting a cluster algebra structure. We then present the general definition of a cluster algebra and describe the interplay between cluster variables, coefficients, c-vectors and g-vectors. We show how c-vectors appear in the study of quantum cluster algebras and their links to the quantum dilogarithm. We then present the framework of additive categorificat…
For each simple Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$, we construct an algebra embedding of the quantum group $U_q(\mathfrak{g})$ into certain quantum torus algebra $D_\mathfrak{g}$ via the positive representations of split real quantum group. The quivers corresponding to $D_\mathfrak{g}$ is obtained from amalgamation of two basic quivers, where each of them is mutation equivalent to the cluster structure of the moduli space of framed $G$-local system on a disk with 3 marked points when $G$ is of classical type. We derive a factorization of the universal $R$-matrix into quantum dilogarithms of cluster va…
We construct an injective algebra homomorphism of the quantum group $U_q(\mathfrak{sl}_{n+1})$ into a quantum cluster algebra $\mathbf{L}_n$ associated to the moduli space of framed $PGL_{n+1}$-local systems on a marked punctured disk. We obtain a description of the coproduct of $U_q(\mathfrak{sl}_{n+1})$ in terms of the corresponding quantum cluster algebra associated to the marked twice punctured disk, and express the action of the $R$-matrix in terms of a mapping class group element corresponding to the half-Dehn twist rotating one puncture about the other. As a consequence, we realize the …
A cluster variety of Fock and Goncharov is a scheme constructed by gluing split algebraic tori, called seed tori, via birational gluing maps called mutations. In quantum theory, the ring of functions on seed tori are deformed to non-commutative rings, represented as operators on Hilbert spaces. Mutations are quantized to unitary maps between the Hilbert spaces intertwining the representations. These unitary intertwiners are described using the quantum dilogarithm function $Φ^\hbar$. Algebraic relations among classical mutations are satisfied by the intertwiners up to complex constants. The pre…
A quiver is an oriented graph. Quiver mutation is an elementary operation on quivers. It appeared in physics in Seiberg duality in the nineties and in mathematics in the definition of cluster algebras by Fomin-Zelevinsky in 2002. We show, for large classes of quivers Q, using quiver mutation and quantum dilogarithms, one can construct the combinatorial DT-invariant, a formal power series intrinsically associated with Q. When defined, it coincides with the "total" Donaldson-Thomas invariant of Q (with a generic potential) provided by algebraic geometry (work of Joyce, Kontsevich-Soibelman, Szen…
In previous work of the second- and third-named authors with Linhui Shen, cluster theory was used to construct wavefunctions for branes in threespace and conjecturally relate them to open Gromov-Witten invariants. This was done by defining a quantum Lagrangian subvariety of a quantum cluster variety, and mutating a simple solution to the defining equations in a distinguished seed. In this paper, we extend the construction to incorporate the skein-theoretic approach to open Gromov-Witten theory of Ekholm-Shende. In particular, we define a skein-theoretic version of cluster theory, including the…
$Q$-systems are recursion relations satisfied by the characters of the restrictions of special finite-dimensional modules of quantum affine algebras. They can also be viewed as mutations in certain cluster algebras, which have a natural quantum deformation. In this paper, we explain the relation in the simply-laced case between the resulting quantum $Q$-systems and the graded tensor product of Feigin and Loktev. We prove the graded version of the $M=N$ identities, and write expressions for these as non-commuting evaluated multi-residues of suitable products of solutions of the quantum $Q$-syst…
We show that the quantum coordinate ring of the unipotent subgroup N(w) of a symmetric Kac-Moody group G associated with a Weyl group element w has the structure of a quantum cluster algebra. This quantum cluster structure arises naturally from a subcategory C_w of the module category of the corresponding preprojective algebra. An important ingredient of the proof is a system of quantum determinantal identities which can be viewed as a q-analogue of a T-system. In case G is a simple algebraic group of type A, D, E, we deduce from these results that the quantum coordinate ring of an open cell o…
Let $Q$ be a Dynkin quiver and $Π$ the corresponding set of positive roots. For the preprojective algebra $Λ$ associated to $Q$ we produce a rigid $Λ$-module $I_Q$ with $r=|Π|$ pairwise non-isomorphic indecomposable direct summands by pushing the injective modules of the Auslander algebra of $kQ$ to $Λ$. If $N$ is a maximal unipotent subgroup of a complex simply connected simple Lie group of type $|Q|$, then the coordinate ring $C[N]$ is an upper cluster algebra. We show that the elements of the dual semicanonical basis which correspond to the indecomposable direct summands of $I_Q$ coincide w…
We introduce several commutative rings, the snake rings, that have strong connections to cluster algebras. The elements of these rings are residue classes of unions of certain labeled graphs that were used to construct canonical bases in the theory of cluster algebras. We obtain several rings by varying the conditions on the structure as well as the labelling of the graphs. The most restrictive form of this ring is isomorphic to the ring $\mathbb{Z}[x,y]$ of polynomials in two variables over the integers. A more general form contains all cluster algebras of unpunctured surface type. The defini…
